Reverse AUs go hard~
(Charge Bolt)
Tumblr media
I had this design sitting in my salvaged photoshop files for about a year before I started rewatching MHA soo..yeah, time to take another crack at it!
As always during character redesign, I first evaluated what I liked and disliked about the previous iteration. In this instance, I looked at my design choices and wrote down features I liked or disliked, and things that stance or clothing told me personality wise.
Then, I speculated how I might adapt and show these attributes I wanted.
For Iguchi, I decided to shift from straight up anxiety to insecurity, shown by dying his hair and taking on the fashion sense of his favorite hero, as well as giving him a scar on his tail from an anxiety chewing that geckos and lizards tend to do in real life. I also took into account physical aspects of his quirk, such as a geckos vision and the shape of their feet, and how that would affect clothes he wore.
Overall I'm really happy with the design, and cant wait to further explore his personality :}

M'love -Alpha Mate!Todoroki Shoto x Female!Omega Reader
A/n: I haven't written for my beloved Shoto in so long haha
General info:
Genre: fluff/reverse comfort \\ wc: 312 \\ female omega reader \\ posted: 03/25/24
Tumblr media
You and Shoto became mates right after high school. You were both broke and didn’t have the means to get your own place. The burning need to be close to one another stopped you from living separately, so you moved into Shoto’s family home. It was awkward, and constantly toxic, but it was the best you could currently do.
You walk into the Japanese style house, taking your shoes off at the doorway. You stumble into the room you share with your beloved alpha, Shoto. He was laying in bed, asleep. You take your hero gear off before pulling on one of his t-shirts and a pair of his sweatpants.
You sigh, inhaling the familiar scent of your alpha. You relaxed further, crawling into bed. He shifts, instinctually pulling you to his chest. You giggle softly, purring at the way his face pressed against your neck. You felt like you were in heaven.
Shoto’s heterochromatic eyes found yours as he slowly woke up. You smile, pressing your cheek against his. “Did I wake you?” You whisper. Shoto sleepily nodded, pulling himself up to lay his head on your shoulder, wrapping his arms around you.
You frown slightly, Shoto usually leaned on you like this when he needed comfort, opting to pull you onto his chest most of the time.
“Is everything alright?” You purr into his ear. His brows relax as he hears your soothing purrs.
“Just my father...” he murmured.
“What happened this time? Do you want to talk about it?” You kiss his forehead gently, lightly scenting him to help him relax.
“He was just complaining about you again, m’love. Don’t worry about it though, his opinion doesn’t matter to me.” He looks up at you like you hung the moon, his warm hand finding your cheek. You lean into his touch, purring.
“Love you.” You murmur, petting his hair soothingly. He smiles up at you, blessing you with the rare sight of his smile.
“I love you more.”

I’d love to see an episode of MHA that’s a flipped alternate universe where the heroes are villains and vice versa. I just think it would be interesting to see the writers’ take on how different characters could have ended up on a different path.
For example:
Ochako who ends up pursuing villainy as a means of pulling her family out of poverty. Feels derision for heroes who make a ton of money off marketing and appearances, but don’t actually help people in need when it’s not a flashy photo-op.
Iida who ends up becoming a vigilante after Stain paralyzes or kills his brother. Decides that the only real path to justice is to pursue it himself outside the law.
Hawks who never gets found by the hero commission and is forced into becoming a thief like his father to survive. Faces discrimination as a heteromorph.
Enji who sees his father murdered and instead of pursuing heroism to make himself physically strong enough that he won’t ever feel that weak and helpless again, ends up pursuing dangerous solutions to the limitations of his fire quirk in the underground black market for quirk modifications and augmentations.
Izuku who gets involved in the same black market after All Might tells him that he can’t be a hero without a quirk. Resents the way he was treated for being quirkless.
Toga who gets picked up by the hero commission and ends up a disguise hero/spy/assassin. Disillusioned with the commission like Nagent, but dependent on them for a blood supply because they’ve dosed her to the point that she suffers withdrawals without it.
Tomura being found by All Might, growing up as the prodigal grandson of Nana, becoming a search & rescue hero.
Twice who gets help as an orphaned teenager and becomes a non-profit worker who uses his quirk to check up on homeless teens across the city.

「 extemporaneous 」 — 05 ☾
— pairing: multi; shoto x reader, izuku x reader (so FAR...) — genre: hybrid au, slow burn-ish, reverse harem — wc: 4.4k — rated: sfw — notes: yeet
You've never really had much to do with hybrids, existing in your own little bubble for a majority of your life. That comes to an end when your friend phones you for help and somehow you end up taking two hybrids off of her hands while they recuperate in the wake of an unfortunate incident. But when the time comes that they have to leave, will you really want them to go?
⟵prev. || masterlist || next⟶
Tumblr media
At this point, should you really be surprised by the dumb shit you receive from body corporate?
The answer to that is no, you should definitely be used to it by now. Whether you should be angry, on the other hand… well, that’s another matter entirely.
And you feel like in this instance, your anger is more than a little justified.
The two hybrids had recoiled slightly when the spark first lit within you, and you instantly felt bad for throwing your emotions around when you know they’re so sensitive to them. You let the letter fall onto the nearby bench, closing your eyes and taking a deep breath. When you feel the heat in your chest fade a bit, you take another deep breath. You’re still mad, but now a little less intensely so.
When you open your eyes and reach for the letter again, it’s not where you left it. Alarmed and with a slight feeling of dread, you turn and catch the two hybrids scanning its contents. This makes you feel even worse, because it’s not exactly something you want them to read.
“I’m sorry,” you say, plucking the letter away before they can get too far into it. “You shouldn’t have to read rubbish like this.”
“Yona, they’re threatening to fine you,” Izuku says, eyes wide. He immediately steps forward, edging closer to you so he can lay his hand on your arm. His long ears droop ever so slightly. “Because of us…?”
“Don’t worry, they threaten to fine me all the time,” you say, flashing him a smile. “I have a blood feud with one of the body corporate members, so it’s kind of common.”
Shoto’s eyes are piercing daggers through the paper in your hold, the pensive look on his face almost distracting you from the soft, distressed whine Izuku lets out.
“We need to have collars,” Shoto announces, and you feel your heart sink. That’s the part you were hoping they hadn’t read. Collars can be a bit of a touchy subject for hybrids, and you personally aren’t fond of them because of the reminder they provide that hybrids are viewed by some as subhuman.
“I mean, you don’t have to if – if you don’t want--” You cut yourself off, flustered, and take a moment to form what you want to say. “This is their rules, not mine. You don’t have to do anything you’re uncomfortable with, I won’t make you. I won’t let them make you, either.”
Izuku’s eyes glisten a bit as he looks at you, and that’s about all the warning you get before he throws himself at you so abruptly you almost go toppling over. He whines your name loudly where his face is pressed against your shoulder, the vibrations tickling almost as much as his dark curls against your cheek. You’re beginning to realise that Izuku is a lot more emotional and dramatic than you first pegged him to be. Instinctively, your arms come up around him, rubbing his back with wide eyes. You look to Shoto for help, but his eyes are trained on the hold you have around Izuku.
Izuku yanks his head back, gripping you by the shoulders. His ears go pin straight for a moment at the sheer determination emanating from him.
“No, you’re taking care of us so it’s only fair!” he announces with gusto, brows drawn. “I don’t want you to get in trouble when all you’re doing is giving us a place to stay. Besides…”
His eyes flit to the side, a blush tinging his honey skin. His next words are murmured so softly you almost miss them. “If it’s for you… I don’t mind wearing a collar…”
He then releases you, backtracking and slapping a hand over his rapidly-colouring cheeks. If he was going to get so embarrassed as a result, why did he even say it? Fondness sparks within you at how absolutely endearing he is.
Shoto’s opportunistic streak shows itself again a moment later when he notices the vacant space around you and approaches; he slips his arms around your waist loosely from behind, his face planting itself into your hair.
“We won’t let you get fined,” he mumbles against your head, nose nuzzling slightly. “That’s money that can be spent on other things. Like chicken. And soba.”
You snort at that, following the sudden bold impulse you get to turn in his hold and return his hug. Shoto freezes when you do so, the action apparently unexpected. When you rub a hand over his back, he melts into you and lets out a happy noise that is suspiciously dog-like. You decide not to give him grief over it and instead squeeze him against you.
“Thanks, you two,” you say, pulling away with a bitter smile. “But I’m still sorry you even have to consider it. I didn’t realise that they would, well…”
“Don’t worry about it,” Shoto says, waving his hand. His snowy ears flick atop his head as Izuku voices his agreement. “Like he said, you’ve done a lot for us so far. It’s the least we can do, really.”
You can feel your chest warm at his words. You throw him a soft smile. “You might regret saying that. Word on the street is that a lot of the collar options these days are super ugly.”
Shoto rolls his eyes, letting out a scoff. “I don’t really give a f–“
“I’m sure you’ll take us somewhere promising!” Izuku says, cutting his fellow hybrid off. He meets your eyes and beams. “I trust you, Yona!”
… You might need to sit down.
//
There wasn’t much point in wasting time, so after a brief reprieve at home you took them out to get collars. It still doesn’t sit right with you, despite their reassurance, and on the way to one of the places you googled that has good reviews, you wonder what you can do to make it a bit more even. You don’t want to disrupt the balance you have with them right now, and if they have to start wearing collars when you go out…
It leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
It’s a short drive, and you arrive in what feels like no time at all. You don’t make it a foot away from the car, though, before a hand is grasping your own and tugging you back.
“I can smell it from here,” Shoto says in explanation, “That place is going to reek of other hybrids. Can we…?”
You open your arms without so much as a blink, and they both dive in to make you the one no doubt reeking of hybrid – well, two in particular, anyway.
“This is gonna be a regular occurrence, huh?” You joke, “At this rate, I’m worried what will happen after I shower.”
Izuku laughs, if a bit delayed, but Shoto’s silence makes you spare him a glance. A thoughtful look is on his face for a moment, before he nods and turns his mismatched eyes in your direction.
“Yeah, maybe don’t shower so often. That will preserve it more.”
“Sho!” Izuku smacks his arm, and the canine hybrid huffs.
“I’m kidding,” he says. He clearly wasn’t. Izuku appears kind of mortified.
Rolling your eyes at their antics and Shoto’s perpetually growing boldness, you turn and begin towards the store. Two hurried sets of footsteps follow after you, followed by a hand taking each of your own. You didn’t think it was going to be a reoccurring thing when you introduced it at the shopping centre that time, but you can’t say you’re complaining.
The shop upon entry is… interesting. Kind of like the unholy fusion of a pet store and a jewellery store. There is a number of different sections, each with different styles and price tags, different designers and brand names, and in the far corner is a machine for pressing details onto collar tags. At least you won’t be needing that, since these two technically don’t belong to you.
… Why did that thought kind of hurt?
Shaking your head, you allow your gaze to roam around once more before moving further in. The clerk greets you from the counter on the other side, and you return it before shifting to face your two companions.
“Right,” you say, feeling a little (read: very) out of your element. “Um, let’s have a look, I guess?”
A soft, nervous laugh filters from Izuku, and he peers around while scratching the back of his head. He isn’t sure where to start, either.
Shoto hums, using his grip on your hand to pull you closer to his side. There is only two other groups in here, a small family with a young hamster hybrid, and a tired man in business attire with three hybrids trailing after him. They seem content to mind their own business, though, so you’re not too worried.
Shoto’s instincts appear to be getting the better of him, on the other hand. You might have to ask him if everything is okay when you get back home, because although you’re not exactly opposed to this new behaviour it is pretty different from normal. He’s pressed to your side like a conjoined twin.
“How are you meant to find one that you like if you’re stuck next to me the whole time?” you ask, amused. Shoto doesn’t turn his head, giving you a glance from the corner of his eye.
“I’m not picky,” he announces, on the complete opposite side of the globe to the truth. “I’m sure I can find something easily like this.”
You hum in acknowledgement, trying your best not to laugh. It’s not his fault that he’s so funny without meaning to be. His hand squeezes yours, fingers tightening their hold before he begins to attempt navigation. Izuku is peering around with a critical gaze as he follows, attempting to narrow down which section to visit first.
“I’m going to check out these ones,” he says distractedly, having found something of interest a moment later. You tell him not to worry about price as he goes, but knowing him he probably discarded that blessing before it even entered his ears. He’s too considerate to spend a lot of your money.
You’ve got a list of items you’re intending to be reimbursed for already though, so you’re not too concerned. Nejire better watch her back come tax time.
The variety of styles available is truthfully quite surprising. A pieces catch your eye as you pass them, and they’re so similar to some jewellery already available to humans that you consider getting one for yourself.
That… actually gives you an idea.
You can tell that Shoto wants to keep you within arms reach, but when you pause to inspect a row of glimmering chain collars, and an aisle further up catches his eye, he is forced to let you go. He gives you a morose look as he parts from your side, and it’s as though he’s trying to plead with his eyes for you not to go too far — the sight is so funny you have to turn away so he doesn’t see you smile. He shuffles off to investigate the aisle that caught his eye.
You’re not sure what you expected before walking in here, but you’re able to admit that you might have been a little pessimistic. You were thinking uncomfortable, uncompromising, ugly…. But there are actually quite a number of collars that seem to take the hybrid into consideration. Some are simple, made of durable fabric with bamboo weave so that it doesn’t irritate the senses. Others are soft and made of silk that sits loosely around the neck, unrestricting. Of course, there are also the typical styles normally available for the standard pet – leather, studded, spiked, bejewelled. But you’re happy to admit that the range is better than you thought it would be.
Humming to yourself, you allow your gaze to scroll lazily through the options on the wall – you have no intention of choosing for either of them, but you also want to allow them plenty of time to find one that they like. Now that you’re alone for a brief moment, you let the thought that passed through your mind earlier to return for further deliberation. Deeming it a good idea, you begin looking at the options available a little more discerningly. Something resilient that can be worn every day would be good.
In total, you probably spend about an hour in the store. There is a lot to look at, and both hybrids end up with a handful of runner-ups that they’re choosing between. Gradually, the three of you have migrated closer to the register, and now you’re in the final aisle as the boys show you their spoils.
“Those three are nice,” Izuku says, pointing to the jumbled pile in the basket hanging from his elbow. “But, it’s these two that I’m really stuck between. This black one is a soft material, and has a standard buckle. This green one is also soft, but I like that it doesn’t have any metal and is just one you tie yourself.”
His forest-hued eyes sweep and meet your own, an expectant glimmer catching your eye. “Which one do you think, Yona?”
“They both suit you,” you answer immediately, the instant smile that blooms on his face making your chest warm. “But if I’m being honest… I think I like the green one better on you. The extra bits of fabric that hang down kind of match your ears.”
Izuku beams, a blush erupting on his cheeks as he does so, and immediately dumps the black one back in the basket. “Green it is. Thanks, Yona! I’m just gonna go and put the others back quickly.”
And then he is gone, darting down the aisle with the quick and nimble feet of, well… a rabbit. You turn to Shoto, who had been staring without a break at the collar in his hand for the duration of Izuku’s dilemma.
“I think I want this one,” he says, apparently feeling your gaze. His eyes peek at you from beneath long, thick lashes. “But… it’s a little similar to Izuku’s.”
“So?” you ask, tilting your head. Shoto lifts his face at your response. “If you like this one, then get it. Even if you got one exactly the same, I’m sure you would make it your own when you wear it.”
Shoto hums, pondering your words. The collar in question is a long, thin silken band, meant to wind twice around the neck and then tie off however the wearer prefers. It has a single gold ring looped onto the fabric, meant for a tag, but even without one it looks cute.
“I think it will look really nice,” you say, smiling. “Matches your hair. Well, half of it.”
The canine hybrid snorts, rolling his eyes playfully – he can’t hide the smile that rises, though. “Alright, I’ll get it – but not because you told me to or anything.”
You laugh, placing a hand on his arm. “Alright, go put the rest back. I’ll meet you two at the registers.”
He nods, and leans down to rub his cheek against the top of your head before striding away, long legs carrying him quicker than your eyes can follow. It’s like he can’t help himself, now that you’ve given him the green light to scent you. Your teeth sink into your lip – well, it’s not like you mind. It’s actually kind of endearing.
Time for a change of mental subject! You smack your cheek and move to the counter where the clerk is resting, smiling politely. You place your single item down, and the clerk scans it. You don’t have to wait long for the other two to arrive and place their own choices on the counter.
They all go into a bag after being wrapped in some tissue paper, and the attendant gives the three of you a smile. His cheeks redden as he actually looks at the hybrids by your side, and you feel oddly proud. Is this what it’s like to have kids that grow up handsome?
“Okay, the total for three items is $84.55. Are you a member at all?”
From the corner of your eye, you catch the hybrids sharing a confused look, but you ignore it to shake your head and reach for your card.
“Oh, that’s okay. Would you like me to sign you up? Members get some pretty neat deals with all of our sister stores that handle hybrid products and goods. There’s no extra cost – actually, if anything I think it will probably give you $5 off since this would be your first purchase.”
Your brows shoot up and a surprised hum escapes you. That might actually be a good idea, if its for other stores besides this one. Lord knows how much else you’re probably going to have to buy for these two. “Oh, yeah sure actually. You need my details?”
The process doesn’t take too long, and soon you’re exiting the store and heading for the car once more. It’s been a busy day, really.
You have to dodge the boys’ repeated attempts to take the bag from your hold, though. It’s kind of fun, and by the time you reach the car it’s become a sort of game.
“I’m not that old,” you snort as you climb in. “Do you think my bones will break from carrying this itty bitty bag?”
“No,” Izuku admits, slightly sullen at his failure to carry the bag for you. “But we’ve only lost the battle, not the war.”
Shoto nods, eyes closed and arms crossed. “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
The contents of said bag are unceremoniously dumped on the counter as soon as you arrive home. You feel like you’re distributing rations as you hand them their collars.
“I won’t make you wear them when you’re home, but honestly do whatever you’re comfortable with,” you say, folding the bag and preparing to shove it in the bin.
You receive some dismissive ‘yeah’s, and think they will be busy for now with attempting to wear the collars when a smooth baritone enters the air shortly after.
“By the way, that shop attendant said three items. Did he overcharge you?”
You turn, catching the curious look directed your way. A somewhat secretive smile tugs your lips.
“No, he didn’t.” You grab the third wrapped item from the counter. “He was talking about this.”
It’s unwrapped in seconds and immediately holds the attention of both hybrids. Confusion still twists their features, though.
“It’s pretty,” Izuku says, eyes sweeping over the design of the collar in your hold. “But we both already chose one… what’s this one for?”
“For me,” you answer simply, ignoring their startled looks. “It’s only fair. I don’t like feeling like we’re on unequal footing with only you two wearing them. Now, we’re even.”
It’s a simple band with a thin chain sitting in the middle of the fabric. It has a little star charm dangling from the centre of the chain. Honestly, if someone saw you wearing this on the street they would just think it was a pretty choker. It’s the same for a lot of the things that were in the store, and the ones that your boys chose. The only aspect that makes them collars is the fact it’s a hybrid wearing them.
Upsetting, but you digress.
You fiddle with the collar, attempting to wrangle it from the display card it’s stuck on, and only notice the silence in the room a few beats later. Your eyes flit up, catching sight of two very dumbfounded men.
“You got… a collar to wear with us?” Izuku asks, blinking like he can’t quite comprehend what he’s seeing and hearing. His voice is slightly choked, and he has to clear his throat when he is done.
“Yeah,” you say. “Now we all kind of match.”
His eyes flutter rapidly, mouth hanging slightly ajar. Pink blooms on his cheeks moments later, and his eyes glisten slightly. Izuku coughs, turning his face away.
Shoto surprises you by taking two long strides forward, tilting the collar in your hold with his finger and giving it a shrewd once-over.
“It’s pretty,” he rasps, mismatched gaze flitting between the items in your hold, Izuku’s, and his own. His ears lean backwards, adam’s apple bobbing. The low timbre of his voice as it escapes has you fighting a shudder. “They all kind of look like pretty necklaces.”
“They do,” you agree. You begin to worry that your purchase might have had the opposite effect than you intended. Right when you’re about to speak up and offer a hasty apology, Shoto surprises you with a soft laugh. His finger lifts and brushes along the column of your neck, a smile gracing his features.
“It’ll look good,” he says simply. He bites his lip, taking a step back. There is something soft about the curve of his eyes. “Thanks, Yona.”
Contentment bubbles in your chest as Izuku returns his gaze to you and hastily nods his agreement. All but throwing his own collar to the side, he darts forward with a smile and outstretched hands. “Here, let me help you put it on. They have a bit of a trick to the clasp.”
You feel a lot better about the situation now, with these two flitting about behind you and attempting to hook the choker properly. All things considered, the day definitely could have gone a lot worse.
//
There atmosphere in the home from that day has been nothing short of peaceful and content. They had already been warming up to you gradually, but now you feel like you’ve earned a decent portion of trust. You haven’t taken off the collar at all, and the two of them (contrary to every single one of your expectations) have done the same. In fact, you’d actually be inclined to describe the way they wear them as though they’re proudly showing off a designer shirt, or couture bag. Odd, but not unwelcome. They’re settled, comfortable, and so long as they’re happy you’re pretty happy with yourself, too.
All good things tend to come to an end, but in your instance it’s not an actual end — actually, it’s more like a complete change of pace.
It’s a simple incident that spurs the change, something that could have been easily avoided if you were anyone but, well, you. As it happens, you are indeed you, and so it is somewhat unavoidable.
You’ve taken to resuming your old exercise schedule, and this includes the occasional morning run. The two hybrids aren’t always awake when you leave (they were the first time, but that’s because you swear Shoto zoomed out of bed thinking there was an intruder when you tried to leave quietly) but they tend to rouse when you return. Today, they are still in various stages of waking up and have yet to leave their room.
When you return you make a beeline for your en-suite, hot, sweaty and probably stinky. You don’t like swimming around in your own sweat, and so tend to always go for a shower as soon as you come home. You peel your activewear from your skin, stepping out of the fabric and into a towel just for the time being. Your hair is already up and out of the way, and the collar is waterproof, so all that’s left is to turn the water on and let it warm up.
You might be overheated, but you’re not about to take an ice shower. You’re only a little bit crazy.
You have to lean in to turn the tap on, and brace your hand on the frame of the door to do so. This, as it turns out, is your fatal mistake.
Not wanting the heat to escape as the water warms but for some reason not wanting to remove your hand either, you swing the door gently closed. It does not close gently. In fact, one could say it slammed shut.
Right on your fingers, in the place where your nails are.
“OW! Mother of–“
A string of curses fit for a sailor are flung into the air, the shower door flinging shut with a huge bang as you whip you hand away and out of the danger zone. You’ll live, but it hurts like a bitch right now, so at what cost? Your poor fingers. You hate it when this happens – it’s always on the spot near the nails that hurts the most. This is bullshit!
Thankfully your sweaty self doesn’t slip on anything, and you’re left standing in a towel and examining your fingers for any broken skin as steam begins to leak beyond the shower stall. For a moment, you forget that you don’t actually live alone anymore.
When the door suddenly bursts open, you are abruptly reminded that you now live with not one, but two other people, whose hearing is nothing short of exceptional.
“Yona!” Izuku’s eyes are wild with a mixture of fear, concern, and alarm. Shoto is right beside him, mismatched hues immediately sweeping the room for any dangers. It would be funny if it were any other situation except this one. Immediately, your whole body grows hot and your cheeks burn – in perfect synchronicity, the two hybrids inhale and their eyes narrow on you. Immediately afterwards, said eyes widen and they both erupt into a violent blush.
Izuku slaps a hand over his eyes, ears ramrod straight atop his head. His voice shakes slightly as he speaks. “I’m so sorry! Are-- are you okay though? I’m so sorry, we completely just--”
Shoto’s eyes are glued to the ceiling, head tilted back like he is beseeching the heavens for strength.
“We heard a bang and you yelling,” he says, voice thick and strained. His face is a few shades from the vibrancy of his hair. “Thought something happened… Sorry.”
“I just, uh… I jammed my fingers,” you fluster, shaking your fingers out. Your other hand flies to grab the towel when it begins to drop. “Sorry for alarming you. It just, um, really hurt. Yeah.”
Silence accompanies the steam beginning to fill the room, an odd tension weaving between the three of you. After a few beats, Shoto swallows and grips Izuku by the shirt sleeve.
“Um, we will be going now. Try not to jam them again. Sorry.”
He then turns on his heel in a single motion, not a glance spared your way, and power-walks out of the room with his smaller companion in tow. Izuku stumbles, hand still covering his eyes.
“Sorry again! Sorry!”
Your bedroom door slams shut, announcing their departure from your quarters.
Well, if you weren’t lightheaded from the heat before then you certainly are now.

As punishment for your sins, you, a young vampire, are banished — not just from your home, but to a different world entirely. Now, you find yourself in a foreign place where Quirks and heroes are the norm. In addition to coming to terms with your new life, you must also face your greatest challenge: controlling your massive thirst for blood.
story masterlist | next
The intoxicating scent of blood. The feel of it being smeared across your cheeks, some of it even dripping down your chin. And best of all... the taste. On the night you nearly killed someone, that was all you could focus on.
“...[Name], please...”
In the darkness, a voice quietly choked out those words. It was a desperate cry, weak and hoarse. They’d been calling out to you like this for several minutes on end, but you were too entranced to take note of it. You just kept on drinking from their neck, relishing in the sweet flavor that enveloped your throat and tongue.
If your parents hadn’t intervened when they had, you would have become a murderer.
“What in the world are you doing?! Stop it right now!”
Before you could make sense of what was happening, you were being pulled away from your prey. All you could do was thrash about furiously. In your present state, you were no better than a feral animal. All logic and reason had left your mind a long time ago. What remained was nothing but hunger and selfish desire.
It wasn’t until someone slapped you across the face, hard, that you finally came back to your senses. At first, everything was fuzzy, but eventually, the images stopped dancing in front of your eyes, and you were able to take in the scene.
A friend of yours, a rather close friend, as a matter of fact, was laying helplessly on the ground, blood staining the length of their neck. A good deal of it had even soaked into the front of their shirt. They weren’t moving either. You could barely even tell that they were breathing, what with how subtly their chest was moving up and down.
Eyes wide, you slowly patted the sides of your face, fingers coming back coated in crimson. Their blood, and it was all over you. So much blood... it was too much. You did this? You took this much blood from them?
“Wait,” you started, but it was too late to bother making excuses for what you’d done. Your friend was lifted up by someone and taken out of the room in a hurry, no doubt to receive immediate treatment. Their body looked limp in the arms of the person carrying them. If you hadn’t known better, you might’ve thought they were already a corpse.
And you had no one but yourself to blame for it.
“You foolish girl!” It was your mother, the same person who’d slapped you in order to bring you back to reality. She grabbed hold of your shoulders, teeth viciously grit from anger. “Do you have any idea what you've done? How could you possibly lose control and do that to your own friend? You nearly killed them! They might die because of you!”
You blinked, tears slowly slipping down your cheeks. “I... I didn’t mean to—”
“No! There’s no excuse! I’ve told you time and time again not to get carried away. Not to let your thirst for blood cloud your reason. What am I meant to say to that child’s family? They’ve been devoted retainers of ours for countless generations. You’ve single-handedly destroyed the trust we worked so hard to build up!”
She clenched her fist, looking as though she wanted to hit you again, but unlike you, she was able to control herself. Then, she stood up, expression devoid of any emotion.
“This was the last straw,” she said coldly. “You never learn, [Name]. Us vampires are more powerful than we even realize. You cannot simply take what you want, whenever you want it. There are limits to your greed and gluttony. As your mother, I cannot continue to excuse such irresponsible behavior.”
“So... what are you trying to say?” you gaped. It was all too much to process at once. It hadn’t even really sunk in that you’d nearly killed your friend. You still couldn’t believe that you were capable of such a thing.
Your mother turned away from you. “Enough is enough. You haven’t corrected your mistakes after all this time. I’ve given up on trying to get through to you. As for the severity of your crimes... you will be punished accordingly.”
She left without explaining any further. Still shocked beyond belief, your entire body sagged. Once again, you touched the sides of your face, marveling at how much blood was staining your skin. It wasn’t normal for a human to lose this much blood. It wasn’t normal for anyone to lose this much blood.
Your mother was right. What you’d done was disgusting and inexcusable. Whatever the punishment was, you wholly deserved it, and you would accept it without protest.
At least, that was what you’d thought.
“Banishment?!” you cried out, panicked. “I understand I committed a grave mistake, but surely that’s taking it too far!”
You stood in front of your entire family. The king and queen, your mother and father, were seated at the forefront, staring down at you with remorseless eyes. Everyone else had gathered too—your many siblings, your uncles and aunts, your cousins. Even your grandparents, who were normally nowhere to be found, had made an appearance for your judgment day.
“It has already been decided,” you father glowered. “No one else in this family loses control of themselves the way you do. Time and time again, you allow your craving for blood to render you blind to the suffering of others. As the rulers of this kingdom, we cannot allow such conduct to go unchecked, even if you are our own kin.”
You could feel your entire body shaking. “But banishment... just what am I supposed to do? Where am I supposed to even go? I’ll take any other punishment! Just not this! I’m afraid. Please... mother, father, everyone... don’t get rid of me. Don’t make me be on my own.”
“It isn’t a permanent solution,” your mother sighed. “But for a while, this much is necessary. We cannot continue to be soft with you. You’ll learn the consequences for your actions the hard way. Once you’ve matured and learned to act in a manner befitting your position, you may return.”
“But I—”
“There is no room for arguing. We’ve already made up our minds.”
Tears continued to well up in your eyes. Of course. You understood the weight of a life, and how close you’d come to nearly extinguishing it. But you still couldn’t help but be afraid. You were only fourteen years old. To be cast away like this, left to fend all for yourself... it wasn’t such an easy thing to stomach.
So, this was it, then. This was the last time you’d see your family, for god-knows how long. Until they somehow decided you were worthy of returning home.
While you wiped at your eyes and kept from sobbing outright, a few cloaked figures stepped forward. You didn’t recognize any of them. These people weren’t from your family. In that case... who were they?
“Mages,” your mother answered calmly, having all but read your mind. “We brought them here in order to carry out your banishment.”
“Why would you need mages to do something like that?”
No sooner had you asked the question, you felt a horrible sense of dread, even worse than what you’d experienced thus far. The mages made a circle around you and ignored your pleading expression, opting instead to pull out some crystals from their cloaks and extend them towards you.
“Mother, father,” you trembled. “What... what’s happening?”
Not just your parents, but all of your family members looked solemn. They clearly knew what was about to come next.
“It is a fairly complicated spell,” your mother eventually said. “A large amount of magic is needed to transport someone to a different world.”
Wait, what? A different world?
You understood now what that horrible sense of dread was. You weren’t just being banished from your home. You were being banished from the only world you’d ever known.
“Please!” you cried out, trying to rush forward as a last-ditch effort. It didn’t work, though. The magic tethered you in place, making your entire body feel as though it had turned to lead. You couldn’t move. You could only squeeze your head as the gravity above you more than doubled, forcing you flat to the ground.
The last thing you saw was the grave look your parents gave you.
“Remember, [Name]. Remember this feeling, and never take a life for granted ever again.”
Light surged before your eyes. It was a foreign, disorienting feeling, and the scream you let out died in the back of your throat. It felt like everything was happening in the span of an inhale, but somehow painfully slowly as well. Whatever the case, you were helpless to do a damn thing about it.
After what was either a second or a whole eternity, you finally came to.
“Miss! Hey, miss! What’s the matter with you?!”
You peeled your eyes open, letting out a soft groan. Some middle-aged man was hovering over your fallen frame, lightly poking you on the shoulder every few seconds. Based on his expression, he was concerned, bewildered, or some combination of the two.
And he wasn’t the only one.
You quickly realized you were surrounded by a group of people, all of whom were staring down at you in visible confusion. Apparently, you were still lying flat on the ground, but in the middle of what looked to be some sort of road. Not only that, but there were strange contraptions all around you. Machines with four wheels that were travelling along the road, although most of them had stopped because you were dead in the middle of it.
Wearily, you pulled yourself to your feet. The group of people kept on pestering you and asking if you were alright, but you ignored them and breezed past. You needed to get your head on straight, but a quick look at your surroundings was really all you needed to confirm your worst fears.
This definitely wasn’t the world you were used to. Your own family had just kicked you out with no regard for your wellbeing, although you supposed that was the price to pay for the sins you’d committed. Crying about it more wouldn’t accomplish anything. You had no time to wallow in self-pity either.
Now, then. What the fuck were you supposed to do next?

I keep adding songs to my dp playlist for very specific amvs I construct in my head (as you do)
this is an old concept I built forever ago but this song drew it back out of me, and I want to revisit it
imagine if you will, Void Danny from Reverse Trio AU, in a timeline where the Phantom of his world (in this specific scenario it's Tucker) did not succeed and was killed by Nocturn
Nocturn at the height of his power is able to use his foot in the dream realm to clip through space, aka he can make portals, at first he just uses them to spread across the world, he teaches Danny to do the same
one day he lets slip that he can make portals to other alternate universes, and that when they are finished feeding on this world, they will move to another
at this point, with Nocturn growing overconfident and complacent, his grip on Danny's mind starts to slip, Danny starts to miss his friends, he starts to regret what they've done
in a moment of gathered willpower he decides to open a portal to a world where his friends are still alive, but midway through he hesitates, what will they think of him? he killed them after all, wouldn't they hate him? wouldn't they think he was a monster? he desperately wants to see them but he can't bare to have them see him this way
the portal opens, but it opens to a world of lush green leaves, a huge tree with a girl sitting beneath it, she has her hand on the trunk, she's crying
he recognises her
the portal had found a version of his friend who would not hate or judge him for what he had done, it found a version of his friend who was just like him
he speaks to this Sam and she tells him that he can't be here, that she killed him, his body was beneath this tree, Danny was her Phantom
he tells her where he is from, that he's escaped to find the friends he lost, he says she's not the Sam he knew, but she's clearly a Sam who regrets as he regrets, who wants what he wants, he reaches out his hand and asks her to come with him, they still have one friend left to find
she takes his hand
he opens another portal, this time to an Amity buried in sand, there's a boy holding a golden staff, he stares out over the buried ruins of the city, the grave of his friends and family, one he had dug himself with the whispers of Hotep Ra in his ear and the memories of an ancient king piloting his body, Sam was his Phantom
Danny and Sam reach out, they tell him to come with them, they'll find a new home together, in a world where none of them exist, a world that none of them have broken
he takes their hands
from here they can go anywhere, to any universe, to find a place for themselves where they are away from the influences that changed them, they are still monsters, in their own ways, with powers granted to them by those who changed them
Danny cannot survive without feeding off dreams, he roams through the dream realm every night, giving people pleasant dreams but leaving them tired and drained come morning
but he thinks perhaps if he feeds lightly, takes just enough energy from just enough people, if he makes sure to feed from different people every night, perhaps he won't need to cause anyone harm
Sam needs sunshine and soil to thrive, but she still has no sympathy for the humans who destroy nature, dragging anyone who threatens her into the ground with her roots
but maybe she can use her powers for something more, rejuvenate the land she walks on, find and connect with humans who want what she wants, they're out there, she knows, she used to be one of them
Tucker uses his magic to survive, to steal food and clothes and shelter for them all, he may have left his kingdom but he is still a king, why shouldn't he take whatever he wants? who are they to tell him no? he could crush them like bugs in his fist, they were only peasants
but does he need to kill them? can't he just take what he needs and make them forget? he has killed so many already, and for what? an empty desolate kingdom? he left that place for a reason
as the influence of their manipulators wanes, the people they once were slowly return to them, they will never be the same, they have been changed far too much, but they are together, and together they remember how to be people again, not quite the people they all once knew, but close enough to count
but eventually their guardians will notice they are missing, Nocturn will follow a trail through dimensions, he will meet others whose wards have disappeared, they will come looking for their disobedient runaway children, and they will destroy whatever lies in their path to get them back
