tw: in this the big change is pretty much that midoriya DIDN'T willingly become the ofa successor and All Might forced it one him. All Might gradually becomes more controlling of Midoriya's life and it's extremely toxic

-All Might totally made him his successor by force and there's no way Midoriya willingly accepted OFA

-Aizawa picks up on it and will make a point to ruffle his hair when Midoriya is out of it (zoned out/disassociated) because All Might is around

-Midoriya gets really stressed about acting normal with All Might around

-Bakugou threatened All Might assuming All Might was working him too hard, saying that if Midoriya works too hard he won't get better

-All Might then controls more of Midoriya's life going as far as sneaking sleeping pills in his pain medication to get him to sleep on time

-Todoroki would notice because he would come over just to talk or to do some late night blackmail researching on his father

-Fucking Shigaraki would notice because he's probably pretty smart

-Shigaraki would make him dead ass leave a fight because he looks dead on his feet because I want him to be a good guy, lol

-But not really, you would have to really know how to read people and know what he's like to tell that Midoriya is Going Through It

-Fucking no one else would notice

-Actually Present Mic would notice and give him extra points for making it through the day

-Maybe Midnight would pick up on something but assume it was class drama

-But then realize there is nothing big happening in the class and be worried about her favorite blushing boy

I'm very much with you on the dudebros convincing me of the queerness in JJK. It's actually them who first directed me into Sukugo. It was a powerscaling POC (I think) youtuber who, during the height of the DE vs DE Sukugo Showdown, said on one of his vids that Sukuna LOVES Gojo. They even have a Sukugo manip as thumbnail for it.

I've never seen that before in an other shonen series ever. It was not treated as a joke. The usage of "love" in reference to a gay ship is unironic and serious. It's really weird not only how they just roll with it, they are very open about it too. There's not even any derision or hostility on female shippers about it like in MHA as far as I've seen at least.

Oh. I love your metas so much especially the one where you referred to Bloodborne. I never realized how through the "absence" or "belittling" of the women in JJK, the dark and horrific elements of womanhood is actually highlighted. I had wondered why there's this constant usage of the word "Womb" associated with curses. Your meta made everything click for me. Gege is probably doing a Bloodborne approach or just dark horror VNs/JRPGs elements in JJK.

That video. Sukuna Loves Gojo is fascinating because it came out July 22, 2023 aka when only up to JJK 229 was out. The whole “the one who will teach you love is…” quote during the fight in JJK 230 appeared After that video was released.

This means, before Gege made it obvious, a powerscaling dudebro came to the same conclusion I did about Sukugo with less information and context. None of them can read the Japanese raws. The emotions they’re picking up on are just that overtly queer.

These are the types of comments that video. Note that JJK 230 was officially released on July 31, 2024 and leaked on July 25, 2023. (I used Hadzy and the video url to get the comment dates.)

And would you look at that. Other people have not only noticed Gojo’s weird attraction to Toji (aka Prior to JJK 231 that spells out Gojo sees Toji in Sukuna)...

Some of them are assuming Gojo is a bottom (again)...

And actively encouraging fujoshis to create content.

What I also really like is how they seem to be aware Sukuna’s idea of love is fundamentally different from theirs. They may not have the words grayscale, asexual, or aroace in their vocabulary, but they do understand Sukuna’s attraction to Gojo doesn’t fit the typical gay man bill.

I’ve decided to call these people fubroshis (not fudanshis because in any other context they are wildly homophobic). These fubroshis are correct in all their assumptions and I will continue to spread their agenda.

That is the power of Umineko's "Without love it cannot be seen." Since Gege has otherwise stayed away from gross Shonen tropes, I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to certain story elements. It can be hard to tell when someone is exploring misogyny vs being misogynistic. Sometimes creators do both at the same time.

Stars and Strips Quirk Theory

~It’s been a while since i’ve wanted to write meta or theories for bnha but I have a quick thought about stars and strip’s quirk. So she can impose rules on things if she touches it and calls out its name. We know she always keeps one rule imposed on herself for her strength and changes the other rules as per what she needs in a fight. With that in mind, here is my thought. Could she impose a rule on her self so that her quirk couldn't be stolen? Now I know a lot of people want Shiggy to steal her quirk but I don’t think that will happen. AFO as a quirk is already extremely powerful, especially with the quirks already stockpiled right now. I really don't see how the heroes would have any reasonable chance if Shiggy managed to steal stars and strips quirk as well. In-stroty wise, stars and strips seems brash and impulsive but i doubt she's stupid. She’s the US’s number 1 hero. Even with a ridiculous quirk like hers I doubt you could get that far as a moron. She also probably has access to a lot of information and she seems to have general idea as to what's happening in Japan. If she knows Shiggy can steal quirks, if it came down to it, she may choose to impose another rule on herself to insure he couldn't get her quirk. Then again we’ve only known her for a few chapters.  All in all I definitely think she’s gonna lose but I don't think she’ll lose her quirk. Any who, its been awhile and my brain refuses to think any more right now. I may write more about this after seeing tomorrows(todays What is time) spoilers. So much for this being a quick thought~

Just a small point about Spinner in chapter 231: in the MangaStream translation he says “My duty is...”The Viz and other translations have Spinner say something to the degree of “What I need to do is...” I mention it because the word “duty” jumped out to me.

We know Spinner has been conflicted about his role in the LOV. He now sees they aren’t all about Stain’s ideals at all. So why is he still there?

Spinner always struck me as a follower. Everyone else in the LOV had an identity of there own to some degree but he completely sold out on upholding Stain’s principles and even dressing like him. All from seeing a video on the internet. Now he’s at a crossroads.

I saw where someone compared Spinner to a Samurai and even aside from the swords I can see it. He’s sworn his loyalty to the league based on Stain’s principles but now understands his “lord” isn’t who he thought at first.

And yet...his reactions over this arc have been interesting. To hearing Shigaraki’s story, to observing him as he fought Gigantomachia. He seemed sympathetic, frightened, and perhaps impressed at times. And now this samurai’s lord is in danger. I feel like it’s all coming to a head at this moment. A moment where he either decides to forge his own path, or truly sees Shigaraki as someone worthy of serving. And, I may add, where we might finally see his quirk in action.

My Hero Academia Chapter 231 Review

So we’re back again and boy does this chapter have a lot.

So we start with Gigantomachia charging to the battlefield, but then cut to Hawks on the phone.

Yeah so Hawks is trying to get into contact with Dabi and clearly doesn’t know about the whole Meta Liberation War. My guess is that’s probably for the best. I imagine that Redestro could use the footage of Hawks assisting in the fight against him if he showed up.

We then go into a flashback with Hawks on the phone with Dabi, and in the background we see that Best Jeanist has gone missing. I love that Hawks is covering his call by making it sound like he’s calling a lover instead of Dabi. I feel like Horikoshi is doing that stare into the shipping pool again.

This is probably the most interesting part of this too me. Hawks says that being a hero is just a job to him, and I can’t tell if he’s trying to butter up the Lauge here or if sincere. Because a thing about Hawks seems to be how he lacks that drive to wanna be a hero. Afterall, he was brought into the fold at a young age because he literally was born with the quirk of a hero instead of making that choice.

As well as his fantasy is just to have heroes kick back and relax, his fantasy could be achieved with the Lague’s help. But that’s for another time as Dabi tells Hawks he’s gotta prove his loyalty more.

Well he frames it as, “show us how anti establishment you are.” Which sounds like Dabi is a goth kid from South Park asking Hawks to put up a sign that says Fuck The Conformists.

Yeah, I don’t think Hawks did anything to Jeanist. Hawks is smart and Jeanist is smart. They probably made him get off the grid and frame it that way. Even if Hawks has to do some sketchy things and sketchy motives, he really wouldn’t kill another top 10 hero. Maybe Crust, but not Jeanist.

Back at the Batteground, Shigaraki and Spinner talk about if its was a right call to come here. You can tell this is getting to Shigaraki as he’s not really a fighter. Oh sure, we saw him take on Gigantomachia, but that was still one opponent. But wave after wave is likely draining him.

Shigaraki is mainly the brain and heart of the league, but physically even with his quirk, he’s still not great against a horde. I mean, he didn’t really help in Kamino and the highway we was thwarted by Snatch. If he fought Deku now, one good SMASH and Shigaraki would crumble like a twig.

Luck for them, they got waves of their own as Twice’s Sad Man’s Parade catches up.

Shigaraki has a face that screams, “I’m so sick of this shit.”

So we see the politician again and I really hope when they get up close we see more to him, because at this point is like Kizuki and just serves to repeat their gimmick.

Oh god, he’s Belo Betty from One Piece.

Well, Spinner decides that he’ll take out Hanabata.

We cut to Redestro’s office where Twice is there insulting his hairline. Also, it looks like Tomoyasu left his puppets here. Redestro also makes mention of that koala/mouse assistant he had. Which makes me think, Redestro buys his own BS while his top brass seem to wanna exploit it.

Post Chapter Follow Up: This was a good chapter. And shows you can juggle multiple plot points while not feeling uncomfortable. I think the best is the reintroduction of Hawks and building up what he’s done to Best Jeanist. Potentially setting up a future are or character. Which is something Horikoshi does very well.

Now in the fight, its nice to show off that Shigaraki really isn’t this uber strong villain like Kaidou or something. He’ll grow to be the end boss, but not yet. Its also nice to see Spinner wanting to help.

Overall, outside of the Hawks stuff however, the really new things is Spinner might fight Hanabata and Twice is in the tower. Not much on their end.

Final Verdict: 7/10

Not a bad chapter, not a great one. Just overall good.

Have a Hawks

He’s not even one of my favourite characters (yet?) but in ch.231 he looked so beautiful so I had to colour him. Love Horikoshi’s style.

(Spoilers below)

I really, really hope that he’s gonna end up being on the LOV’s side. I also don’t want the LOV to get hurt so Hawks better not touch ‘em.

It also wouldn’t make sense for him to actually end up being a hero, when Horikoshi showed us that Hawks took a feather and seemed ready to attack Best Jeanist. And what’s in the bag? Jeanist cut up into pieces?? If Hori is gonna reveal that he was just trolling us imma be kinda disappointed. Having Hawks betray the heroes honestly adds more to his character than him staying on the heroes’ side. But that’s just my opinion I guess.

MHA 231 Analysis

This Chapter follows off from last week with Gigantomachia as he goes full anime and tears through the forest. (And Honestly i cant help but think of the shit i`m late to school meme) 

However Ignoring this we also cut away from the villains and back onto Hawk`s as he finally gets a reappearance  after 30`ish chapters and despite not being the biggest fan of the way Hawk`s Double agent reveal was handled i still enjoy the lovable Bastard. 

Seeing him getting antsy over the league and how they`re moving outside they`re pattern is cute and all as we see Dabi`s gotten back in contact with hawks and i think he surmises it best when he say`s ,or rather think`s, this.

Also there`s something oddly hilarious about Dabi going incognito perhaps its the look in his eyes but it`s just so ridiculous, though speaking of which i`m still wondering how this Dabi and Hawks relationship will play out what with the Icarus symbolism that`s been ongoing with his character. i also kinda enjoy th fact that Dabi`s got his own thing going on considering his detachment from the league you`d almost think he`d start his own revolutionary group especially considering Shigaraki`s admitted to his goal to just simply destroy everything

Though i doubt Horikoshi would do this seeing as that`d paint Dabi in a Underdog light while the league still are the underdogs as well as not making sense thematically as the LoV name carries weight to it in this world. 

We then continue with this flashback as we see Hawk`s approaching Best Jeanist who`s while not dead in-story was pretty much considered dead by the fandom and it`s nice we get to return to his character as if we didnt then thered of been no point not to kill him during the kamino ward arc , ignoring the fact that All Mights retirement would subtract from the impact of this death and by extension Night Eyes death in 161-ish,  as well as add on to Bakugo`s emotional baggage during his fight with Deku , in short it was a good story telling point to keep Jeanist Alive.

And the thing is he most likely is alive after all when cutting to the present we see people wondering about his disappearance not death so it`s most likely that Best Jeanists death`s been faked.

This is also a rprime example of why Horikoshi should of kept the double agent reveal until later as it lessens the impact of his actions such as this.

In my unprofessional opinion there is two ways Horikoshi should of revealed the double agent nature of Hawk`s either have it be revealed along with the fact that best jeanist ,more then likely, is still alive or have the double agent reveal should of been during the Class A Vs Class B arc as not only would it stop complaining about how it was completely boring , it wasn't though some smaller characters should of gotten some development, and build up his relationship with Dabi perhaps mislead us into believing he`s agreeing with the league ideals so there would  be the constant question of whether or not he`s still a double agent. 

Cutting back to the league and i enjoy how horikoshi`s portraying the toll all this fighting has had on them as Shigaraki`s exhausted his thoughts clearly incoherent it`s just a small detail i enjoy.

We also get a moving scene where twice jumps into the fray to save shigaraki and i love his reaction to it, however we also see that shigaraki`s not completely shattered as he still puts 2 and 2 together to realize the defenses are getting stronger the closer they approach the tower sort of like a pain wall where at some point your so tired that your no longer tired as you push past your body`s subconscious clock , which just reminds me that this arc has just been all the villains going plus ultra which is kinda hilarious. (Also some more parralels between the league and some form of occultism and i kinda wish the idea was pushed further perhaps if this city got a chance in the limelight previously perhaps a one shot in world building  would be kinda cool if horikoshi added some world building i his volume extra`s for this one. 

I bloody love twice just spouting out random shit favorite line has to be              move bitch get out the way                                                                                 you can just tell horikoshi`s having a blast putting this down on his panels.      We also get this panel with spinner as he asks if they cant just leave it all to twice and it`s not that he`s forgotten about gigantomachia it`s to show just how done with this shit he really is. Also this panel from shigaraki`s weird as it`s not something you`d expect to come from a villain but i don`t think this is some sort of , oh i`ll destroy your hands but i wont manipulate you, BS it`s to show that Shigaraki does see the league as he`s friend`s and i think this is first piece of indisputable evidence that Shigaraki`s not been manipulating the LoV seeing as some people still think so. 

We also catch back up to Hanabata i also love how this opening line is much like that one quote from incredible`s

when everybody's super no one will be.

I`t seem`s his speeches also get the crowd fired up in some dragon ball-esq shit and it`s something i previously touched upon on my post about the likely outcome of spinner in this arc.

However i`m kinda annoyed that it`s spinner who`s being set against him as i feel Mr Compress should be the one to fight 

Granted he`s most likely going to help Dabi and we`ll get some development for Dabi where he see`s the league as less of a tool to achieve his goals as his character development seem`s to mirror Shigaraki`s. 

However Mr.Compress would work as a great foil to Hanabata. Both politicians ,well the crooked ones, and magicians use trickery and deception to fool they`re audiences into believing what they're hearing/seeing they both also seem to be rather enigmatic with a certain showmanship about them. 

I`ll see where this is  going before i completely reject it i`m just worried we wont get any back story on compress now, though we most likely will.

We then end on this panel as Twice reaches the MLA base, or at least one of his clones does and Re-destro looks a lot more green-goblin-esq in this panel as we end on this closing line from re-destro and i like the fact horikoshi`s showing how killing Miyashita has still followed re-destro with most anime villains they kill people like its nothing and immediately forget about them.
