Kaminari Might Have ADHD.
While reading MHA School Briefs Vol. II, I came across a line that really made me think about it.
While studying with Momoyao before the test pre-training camp, he’s tries to do some learning on his own. With encouragement from Ojiro and Sero, he goes back to trying to read his English work.
“Lowering his eyes to the page of his English textbook... all he saw were the twenty-six letters of the Roman alphabet arranged in seemingly random jumbled. His last brain cell fizzled [page 32-33].”
Sure, we could all sit here and pretend that this is just Kaminari being stupid, or English being hard - but honestly the situation he’s in would make it impossible for anyone with ADHD to focus. A new place [especially one like Yaoyorozu’s], with a bunch of his friends, and being so anxious about failing? I wouldn’t be able to study either.
Less than a page earlier, the book says this about Kaminari.
“There was no snapping Kaminari out of his doom and gloom. He was usually one of the most upbeat members of the class, but academics was the one thing that made him shift gears into negative mode [page 32].”
Hate to be the one to say this, but UA and Hero Society have shitty mental health regulation. Endeavor, All Might, and Aizawa are great examples of what happens when people in high-pressure situations don’t get the help they need. One’s abusive and has made his one goal in life to surpass another hero, regardless of who he hurts. One doesn’t know how not to be a hero, and then the last one is an black out drunk who can’t handle himself emotionally.
With all of that in mind, do you really think they have 504 Plans or IEPs for students with learning disabilities? I seriously doubt it. When I get the support I need, I thrive. When I don’t, I’m worse than Kaminari. So, in this top-of-the-line school for churning out what are dangerously close to glorified child soldiers, do you really think any of them get the support they need? Sure, they have extra classes - but those seem to just be adding to the stress and misery.
Here’s another example I found while rewatching the show:

People with ADHD tend to skip over lines. Reading fics and writing essays is such a hassle sometimes when all my eyes want to do is jump all over the page. Sure, this could be a sign of dyslexia, but I don’t know a lot about that so I will leave that up to someone else.
With all of his troubles with reading, eyes refusing to work and humbling all the letters, this feels so much like ADHD. The symptoms usually get a lot worse with stress or not being motivated. Clearly he isn’t lacking motivation, at least in the first example, so it’s probably poorly managed stress. This is right after they’ve been told that the lowest student in the class will be expelled.
Kaminari is known for being stupid, even if he is diagnosed. He’s always had a hard time in school. It’s not a reach for him to think he’ll be the one going home.

This is something else that I want to point out that deals with some of the the lesser known symptoms of this disorder. Being alone, feeling like a misfit or that you have no friends, it an all too common feeling for those with ADHD, even for those know a lot of people or who have a lot of friends. Kaminari believes that Kirishima and Bakugou are supposed to be his friends, and seeing them run off without him wouldn’t have felt good.
I’m not saying that I have a mental breakdown every time my friends run off ahead of me, but I am saying that I always run to catch up with them because being alone is a sucky alternative.
Honestly, I could keep going on forever about this, but I think that this is as far as I’m going to get tonight. Let me know your thoughts, or if I should add more.

Sorry, I was away longer than I thought, but onto Episode 5!

So six of the top ten are from the kids in the intro. Bakugo may have gotten number 1, but the fact that he got no rescue points seems like it should've been a bigger red flag for the teachers then it was.

So Aizawa doesn't like All Might. I suppose there would be disagreements between the public heroes and the ones that work more in the shadows.
