Mestiz’s Furniture and Fixtures Meld Vibrant Craft Traditions with Mexican Flora and Fauna
Wander into the new Mestiz space in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and you’ll encounter suspended cacti lights made of hot pink wicker, wooden tables shaped like spiky fauna, and wool rugs evocative of mythical animals. Founded by architect and designer Daniel Valero in 2015, the studio is known for collaborating with local artisans and makers to create functional home goods and decorative objects that capture the vibrancy and textures of the surrounding environment.

Xcaret Park, Mexico: Xcaret Park is a privately owned and operated theme park, resort and self-described ecotourism development located in the Riviera Maya, a portion of the Caribbean coastline of Mexico's state of Quintana Roo...The land was originally purchased by a group of Mexican entrepreneurs, led by architect Miguel Quintana Pali. 5 hectares of the land was purchased in 1984. When he began to clear the land, he started uncovering cenotes, sinkholes formed by collapsed cave ceilings weakened by 3 million years of erosion from underground rivers running through them and flowing into the sea. Wikipedia

Pachystachys lutea (golden shrimp plant, Peruvian shrimp plant) and Justicia brandegeeana (Mexican shrimp plant)
On Saturday, I made my annual pilgrimage to the Bloedel Conservatory. This building is, in effect, a giant greenhouse full of exotic plants. These shrimp plants grow in the shady tropical rain forests of central and South America. They would never survive the winter in Vancouver.
The Bloedel Conservatory was opened in 1969 and it's avant-garde ''Triodetic dome' structure was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s iconic Expo ’67 dome in Montreal. The building itself was constructed with funds provided by the (now extinct) timber company, MacMillan Bloedel. By 2009, the building was falling apart and needed a new roof. The Park's board was facing a deficit that year and decided to tear it down. A grassroots petition started a process which eventually saved this beautiful 1960's building. If you're ever in Vancouver, the Bloedel Conservatory is a must-see for plant lovers and architects alike.

Panchito's Week, day 18 – Ciudad de los Palacios
Fun fact: "Ciudad de los Palacios" is a nickname to the Ciudad de México (CDMX), the mexican country's capital (or so google told me). So here is Panchito in front of one of these palacios (palaces), specifically the Palacio de Bellas Artes made by the architect Adamo Boari in the beginning of the 20th century.

I don't like nationalism even at the best of times but white nationalism specifically is by far one of the stupidest ideologies out there. the very foundation is racism so that's an L in itself and the whole "white people built this structure, made this scientific discovery, created this iconic art" bullshit is hilarious. you are not a great architect or scientist or artist, you're a middle-class anglo loser living in buttfuckville ohio with an office job who pays $8 monthly for a blue twitter checkmark claiming pride in accomplishments of random strangers from foreign european countries hundreds of years ago and LARPing online as an ancient roman because it fuels whatever superiority complex you have over your mexican neighbors who you think are stealing your tax dollars. top-tier loser shit.

About Me
My name is Maria.
I’m happily engaged and we have a little boy together.
I also have 2 dogs, a German Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois x German Shepherd. Oh, and a big tank full of tropical fish.
I’m that friend with no filter, the one who says it how it is. If my mouth doesn’t say it, then my face will.
My free time is mainly spent training & walking the dogs (ofc - malinois are not for the weak), but I enjoy tending to my house plants, garden and tinkering in the greenhouse when I can. I also enjoy reading and gaming (my sole obsession atm is ACNH).
My interests/likes include; animals, baking, cooking, cars, dark romance novels, Formula One, gardening/garden centre trips/anything involving plants, gothic architecture, ice hockey (my American team is the Penguins & my Canadian team is the Oilers), interior design, log cabins, lunch with my friends, murder/mysteries (Bailey Sarian is my queen), music (Parkway Drive & Architects are my favourite bands), space, tattoos, travelling & walks.
I love Italian food (I have a pizza slice tattoo that matches my bestie) and Mexican food (chimichangas 🤤) and I’ve been vegetarian since 2007!
My inbox is always open for my mutuals who want to chat (strictly platonic) although just a heads up I’m not the most social butterfly.

Mexican architecture firm César Béjar Studio has sandwiched a minimalist pink house between two buildings in Culiacán, Mexico, while bringing light into its centre via atriums and voids.
A clerestory window at the top of an atrium in the home's core is tinted yellow, washing the spaces below in a sunny hue that contrasts the pink.
"The atmosphere of the house comes from the colours," architect César Béjar said. "Between the pink of the patios that bounces and enters the house, and that of the direct overhead yellow light that combines with pink and averages the tones on these neutral surfaces."

i dont know anything about frida kahlo, why would she be upset with her legacy?
she was a very vocal communist and Mexican nationalist and had a lot to say about the American capitalist relationship to art, and her work was very much directly about her relationship to Mexican identity and indigeneity and her identity as a profoundly disabled queer woman.
but she's very much been adopted as a symbol of like. girlboss white feminism in a lot of ways, and in the current world Frida KAHLO is very much, you know, a brand identity? her self portraiture has been adopted as a symbol of a kind of generic consumer feminism and slapped on everything from tote bags to makeup to glasses cases to greetings cards. she's become like. a design motif used casually to symbolise Boss Babe Cool Girl Feminism.
and I think as someone who so vocally loathed the nature of consumer capitalism she would probably have some Thoughts on this, especially because she had an amount of Thoughts about her celebrity when she was alive.
(having said which. it's historically she was married to Diego Rivera and had an affair with the exiled Leon Trotsky and it is pretty impressive to come out of a relationship involving Mexico's most famous muralist and the architect of the Russian Revolution and end up being the most immediately recognisable of the three. and that's definitely the part of her legacy that she'd be happy with cause even when she was in her 20s in America she was openly saying she was the greater artist of her and Diego)
