[...] when I ran into Jimmy Clark, Lars' drum tech, backstage.

Steffan: Jimmy, why don't you tell us what you are doing here

Jimmy: well, I'm getting all the danish spit off the cymbals, that's there every night after a show. I wanna make sure the cymbals are clean every night -shiny, like brand new. It's just my thing, I've been that way all my life, even with my own kits, so... I just like them to be clean.

Steffan: I mean, the alarming thing is I came in here and there is an actual industrial looking sander

Jimmy: yeah, it's just a grinder with a polishing pad on it. Yeah, I put a dab of doo on the end of it --it's called Flits, you know, nice little product, if they wanna send me more they can *laughs*

Steffan: well, very good. We'll be coming to you during the tour and talk to you about more the four drum kits you have to work with, but, for now-- should we listen to the sound of you working?

Jimmy, tongue in cheek: oh yeah! Check this out!

*WHIRRING NOISE STARTS*

I finally finished watching/listening to the 1h30 Metal Mayhem interview with Kirk and I LOVED IT.

But that's not the point.

Sunday I went for a walk and I caught up with the latest eps of MetRep, and in one of them Rob was saying that one thing that he loves about Kirk is that... He is friend to everyone, in the same way. He can hang out with surfers the same way he can hang out with Elton John. Same warmth, same enjoyment.

And like, here he is, chatting with this dude -Rob Thomas- who helped them in 83, who was a friend, gave them ride etc, and having fun, thanking him for the pizza and the companionship and one up-ing him again and again in the "do you remember" area. It all felt like an actual reunion between long lost friends and not an interview.

And idk, I am weak for friendships, but truly multiple times it was just friends chatting along, about inconsequential little things, no hero worship, Rob Thomas looked just SO happy to be able to talk with his friend again and Kirk too.
