2023 HIGHLIGHTS
Half of the year has passed and it's just now that I had the time and energy to do my 2023 highlights 😅 Lol better late than never! I'm doing this anyway for archive and memories when I look back and reminisce those times 🤍
Drag Race PH S1 Stars in Cebu
Finally met the queens from Drag Race Philippines Season 1 - Minty Fresh, Eva Le Queen, and Lady Morgana! They were all so beautiful and stunning! From their makeup, costumes, to their performances, they all SLAYED! Queens from the local Cebu drag scene also surprised us with their wow-mazing performances especially Letina Lyccah's performance. Lip syncing Alexia's Happy while throwing and giving out products named "Happy" to the audience was the best!!! (I got Happy peanuts lol). Such an entertainment to enjoy Sinulog night with some of the most famous drag queens in the country.
Spring Vacation in South Korea
Savored what was left of spring when we visited South Korea last year. Wrote more about this memorable trip in four South Korea 2023 blog posts hihi
Honne Concert
It wasn't just a Honne concert. It was Honne + Beka !!! Crying Over You is my favorite Honne song, so to witness them perform it with Beka made it all the more complete as if I'm listening it in Spotify but BETTER. The end of their concert tho with those visuals made us 🥺🥺🥺 (iykyk). Enjoyed the concert so much especially that I was with the company of my friends who I hadn't seen for a while hehe.
Turned a year older
This was a sad birthday because I was not able to enjoy it as much as I would have wanted to. Failed to enjoy the moment when I had a short dinner with my family because I had to go back to school immediately for a rehearsal :( My birthday fell within Intrams + Cookout week so acads and org life was just very hectic :/
Oh well, the world does not stop for me. I turned 22 last year. But wasn't feeling it just like Taylor Swift. It was Nothing New > 22, if you know what I mean.
My First Internship
Summer who? We don't know her! We only know internship!! Last academic year was wild and hectic because we only had a one-week break from second sem and immediately transitioned to being interns. Honestly, I've never legit worked before so this internship was somewhat my first work experience. For a month I mostly did marketing collaterals for an HR management system they developed.
I really wanted my first work experience to be in an organization that's not toxic and stifling. Looking back, I'm glad that I had my internship in MYT because everyone was so welcoming and approachable. We always had free lunch and snacks, and we also joined in their foundation's outreach program on our last day. I love that they also give back to the community and sponsor scholars.
I was also able to sit down and talk to the founders of the company and learned so much from them as well as my growth here. I'm so grateful for the experience because I also learned so much especially with being resourceful on how I can create marketing collaterals with the resources available (thank you Canva for making video animation and editing possible and easier! haha).
Exploring the City of Smiles
Visited Bacolod with the fam! Went to The Ruins, Campuestohan Highland Resort, Ilaya Highland Resort, etc etc (only a few we could fit in our sched). And of course we indulged in their most known delicacies - Eron's Cansi, Calea's cakes, Napoleones from Merzci (+ other brands actually), BongBong's Piaya, Chicken Inasal in Manokan Country, (Bar) 21's Batchoy, and brunch and pastries at Cafe Bobs! We indulged in more food than places so this was a food trip haha happy tummy = happy Andie!
Mayday Parade's 2nd Concert in Cebu
Three Cheers for Five Years since they last played in Cebu for the first time in 2019. That time they promised to be back. Five years later, they kept their promise. Mayday Parade, thank you for accompanying my emotional masochist ass when I was in high school (oahverrr). I'll always be an emo kid 🖤
Performed in a Musical Play
As a wannabe musical actress, I took the opportunity to perform in a short and sweet musical play competition representing our university. We won and were headed for nationals yayyyy
I was really excited when they chose me to be in the musical because that time, I was not able to deliver a lot of acting performances in my org. I couldn't say that I was that good in acting. But to be feeling (lol), I was kinda confident in my singing since I grew up listening and singing to Disney and musical songs. So this was my chance to do what I love.
It was my first musical play (and a competition at that), but playing in a musical in front of a large audience kinda excites the theater kid in me 🥰 (Broadway and West End, I know you're too far, but a girl can dream HAHA LOL)
Last year was very busy and hectic tbh so these were the highlights that I can remember BUT there's so much learning and growth that happened that year. Gratefulness for everything is just pouring everywhere despite the sad and overwhelming days <3 Thank you, 2023! 🌟
Love,
Andie

"Another Memorabilia"
by: Angelicah Roa
Retreat (2023)
As the tiring first semester was done — and a half of the second semester is slowly coming to an end, the Grade 12-Galilee students of the Maranatha Christian College held a retreat at the Guintubdan Pavillion, located in La Carlota City. The purpose of the retreat was to rejuvenate and refresh everyone's soul, taking a short break away from anything that ruins it for days.
Quick funny tangent— from that span of three days of joining the retreat, I participated in all of the activities without fail even if four days before the trip I injured my toe. I may have been too excited that I fell and accidentally wounded my toe, bringing it along the whole trip.
Merzci Factory (2023)
Back to talking about the retreat experience. I am not a big fan of riding buses as a mode of transport but I had to tolerate it since I can't let anything ruin the fun and memorable trip I will have. We traveled from Bacolod City to La Carlota City and along the way of our ride, we made a quick stop at The Merzci Factory. It was fascinating to see where all the og "pasalubong" snacks of bacolod were being made and packed to be consumed by everyone that buys it. While observing how the snacks were made, I got hungry— after the tour I went and bought my usual favorites in Merzci; Piaya, Biscotcho, and Butterscotch. I've learned that the ones in the "pasalubong" boxes are handled differently. The snacks on those travel boxes are drier to extend its expiration due in order to keep the freshness while being sent or brought to another country, than the snacks that are regularly sold in the shops on land.
La Carlota City (2023)
After the Merzci factory, we travelled another hour to La Carlota City. Our class adviser decided to stop by the main park of the city for everyone to have their lunch and relax for a bit after that long ride. The class split up and others went to fastfood chains; we went to a carenderia; then there are those who ate at an eat all you can resto. For a short amount of time in eating, we spent the rest of it waiting and strolling a bit around the park. I enjoyed the park even if it was hot around noon, me and my friends were doing silly stuff and that made it fun.
Guintubdan Pavilion (2023)
After the lengthy bus ride, we finally arrived to Guintubdan — A beautiful place that accomodates people and preserves the breathtaking forest and nature. And by breathtaking, I really literally mean going down on a three hundred and more cobble stone steps to reach the glorious scene of a nature made falls. Despite the long steps up and down, it was worth it just to witness and relax with the clear streams of water flowing from the small and natural fall. Our adviser gave us an hour to explore the place and I really appreciated every second of it.
My experience from the activities to sleeping was very enjoyable and memorable. We had our class divided into three groups; red team; yellow team; and blue team. I really enjoyed the moments I had with my team, even if it was just for a day that we all got to compete with the other teams. I also had fun sleeping in one room with my team, the red team, because we talked about a lot of things before sleeping. Scary stories were the highlight of our "chika" and made up scenarios about the monsters crawling out of our room mirror or standing at the corner, just for us to scare each other. There were those who really left their bed and found themselves another pair to sleep with because they got scared off by a silly story.
Lastly, the sessions. The preachings were the purpose of our retreat. We came to the retreat in order to refresh, feed, and remind ourselves again as christian students. Although not all of us are christians, but the purpose of our class trip is to be spiritually fed again by the word of God. Out of the activities that were done, the preaching of God's word was the center of it all.
I am glad that I got to join the retreat with my fellow classmates and friends. I am also glad that I got to feel the serenity and see the beauty within that pavillion. Overall, I thank the Lord for His guidance that we safely got to Guintubdan and back home, safe and sound. For His provision that everyone got to join the retreat, and for the people that He used as an instrument for the retreat to be organized.
To God be all the glory!

MERZCI Bacolods Best Pasalubong
MERZCI is the trade name of CM & SONS FOOD PRODUCTS, INC. It is the leading bread and food pasalubong producer in Bacolod City and the island of Negros. It carries a wide array of product lines, namely, BAKESHOP, FAST FOOD, PASALUBONG, and PURIFIED WATER.
The company maintains optimum standards in its manufacturing processes and is constantly updating and improving its product lines. Along with its constant improvements, it strives to deliver customer satisfaction by bringing the highest “Value for Money” to its customers.
In 2014, following its trademark application with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPO), the trade name got updated from Merci to Merzci. With the update in the name, came the upgrades and improvements of the company to produce better products and services to its customers. Thus, launching the brand in October 2014 as “The New and Improved MERZCI”. The addition of the letter Z in the name signifies that the company has been gearing up and focusing on targeting the GENERATION Z as the main market of its products and services. Customers can expect more from the company in the succeeding years – new products, more branches, improved customer service, and new ways to experience, share, and be part of MERZCI.
As of Jan 2018, the company is manned by a 1, 600-strong workforce more or less, with each department effectively working together to produce and maintain quality products for its customers.
CORPORATE VISION
Merzci will be a TOP LEADING BRAND in the Philippine Bakery Industry in Bakeshop and Pasalubong that is aggressively present NATIONWIDE serving quality and reasonably-priced products.
COMPANY MISSION
The company aims to continually provide its consumers with the highest quality products and services to maximize their money’s worth:
· By opening outlets and satellites hubs in key towns and cities in the Philippines.
· By hiring and training qualified and competent employees.
· By delivering high quality products with the best value for money.
· By using state-of-the-art technology and manufacturing equipment and practices.
· By being innovative with current trends in the national and global markets.
· By broadening reach through traditional and non-traditional channels.
COMPANY ROOTS
CM & Sons Food Products, Inc. was established as a family enterprise in 1995 in Bacolod City,
Negros Occidental. Its products are marketed under the trade name “Merci” a French word meaning
“thank you”. Though the trade name is undergoing a rebranding process from Merci to Merzci, the company still believes that it will remain competitive in the food market.
Merzci started as a small bakery, supplying breads to a single store at the Libertad Market. Eventually, its popularity became undeniable due to a growing satisfied customer pool. With its high quality breads at affordable prices, combined with aggressive marketing strategies and the ingenuity of youth, it did not take long for the company to establish its own branches around the city and supply products to satellite dealers all over the province.
Merzci also evolved into a fast food restaurant serving scrumptious and affordable snacks and short-order meals for people on the go.
Complementing its food line, it diversified its business interests in 2003 with the introduction of its bottled purified water brands distributed around Negros Island, namely MERCI PURIFIED DRINKING
WATER and VITALIFE PURIFIED DRINKING WATER. Despite competition from national brands, the two brands successfully sliced a big share in the province’s purified water market in only a few months’ time and up to present. The water brand is also expected to follow suit in the rebranding of its trade name.
The success of CM & Sons Food Products, Inc. may very well be attributed to its ability to cope with the emergence of new markets and opportunities.
In January 2005, CM & Sons launched its newest line – MERZCI PASALUBONG TREATS, to cater to
the growing tourist and balikbayan crowd that regularly come to the province. The pasalubong treats have gained a massive “suki” consumer crowd that prompted the company to open its first pasalubong center in Singcang, Bacolod City in September 2005. This branch is only about five minutes away from the old Bacolod Airport which, at that time, gained a wide acceptance among the locals and travelers alike. Seven months later, a second pasalubong center emerged in Mandalagan in April 2006, which now caters mainly to travelers leaving the city on the way to the north of the island. In 2008, when the New Bacolod-Silay Airport was opened to the public a new branch conveniently located at the Departure Area was opened for its customers who are always on the go. And, most recently last February of 2013, BREDCO Branch was established to cater to Iloilo-Panay travelers making it a poin that, indeed, Merzci will always be a part of a traveler’s Bacolod experience.
For more than two decades, the company has produced quality products from breads to pastries to Visayan delicacies to short order meals and even purified water. Products are made available in the different branches and dealers in the Negros Island, Panay, even reaching as far as Tuguegarao City in the North, Zamboanga City, Manila, and Cebu. Some products are also exported by distributors to Canada, the USA, and other parts of the world.
Believing in the power of advertising and promotions, the company employs various media exposures such as television, radio, print, and even social media to reach its varied target markets. Special events such as concerts, tourism and sports events, and other special activities are also considered by the company as avenues to reach new markets.
MERZCI

GrabFood kicks off operations in Bacolod City
#PHnews: GrabFood kicks off operations in Bacolod City
BACOLOD CITY -- Leading food delivery platform GrabFood launched its expansion to this city on Tuesday, making Bacolod its 35th location in the Philippines in less than a year.
GrabFood is one of the features of Grab, a popular mobile application positioned as Southeast Asia’s “everyday everything app”.
During the launch at the L’ Fisher Hotel, GrabFood Philippines head EJ de la Vega said after rolling out Grab’s transport services here in 2015, they are now taking on “the challenge of improving access to great food and bringing more livelihood opportunities for the people of Bacolod.”
De la Vega added that the local culinary scene and homegrown restaurants banner GrabFood’s delivery service.
“Bacolod’s great culinary scene has developed locals to be discerning eaters. As such, GrabFood has partnered with a variety of merchants to cater to a diverse range of pallets,” he said.
Customers can now have deliveries from Negrense favorites such as Aida’s, 21 Restaurant, Inaka, L’ Kaisei, L’ Sea, El Ideal, Virgie’s, Roli’s, Clara’s, Merzci Pasalubong, BongBong’s, Felicia’s, King’s Ice, Apollo Restaurant, Delicioso, Bascon, Quan, Nena’s Rose and Cozy Nook.
In Bacolod, orders from McDonald’s, Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich, Burger King, Red Ribbon, and Uncle John’s Chicken are available for delivery 24/7 through GrabFood.
Joann Yoshida, Grab Philippines operations lead for Western Visayas, said food delivery is a natural extension of Grab’s transport services.
“Bringing this service is part of our commitment to transform Bacolod into a smarter city powered by Grab,” she added. (PNA)
