Hi,.....if you don't mind me asking, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from HxH? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Sorry if you've answered this question before....Thanks....
Hello! I haven't answered that before so thanks for this kind ask, anon <3
My top 5 characters in HxH:
Gon: I love how much he resembles a real child. He's kind and smart, but his innocence as child betrays that false sense of maturity he's got from terrible experiences he shouldn't have been exposed to in that age. Outstanding writing.
Killua: what can I say, I adore him wholeheartedly. I love his development and his personality, the way he also holds an innocence but different from Gon's. Killua is the kind of child that has too much love to give and doesn't know how or where to direct it at.
Komugi: give me a loving and caring character and I'll hold them to my heart and treasure them. I'm not an antagonist person, I fear.
Bisky: we all love a funny and wise tutor, she truly cares about them despite being harsh in her training sessions. I'm never bored with Bisky.
Knuckle: I AM him. Loves to work out and is a big crybaby? That's me right there.
About my favorite moments, definitely episode 116 (I'm a sucker for angst), Killua pulling out the needle, Meruem remembering Komugi, Reina reuniting with her mom (the highest and most-unexpected SOB I had during the show) and episode 37 (the boys having fun at whale island!! defining moment for the story if your ask me).
I love Kurapika and Leorio too but the CAA has such a terrible grip on me that I disconnected from them a bit, emotionally speaking.
Thanks for this request! I'll get to the other ones in the next few days.

The Great Succession Contest Roundup
We’ll call this a spinoff of Late-Night Togashiposting...but being honest this is mostly so I have something to refer to in like, three years when we finally get back around to the main thread of this arc. Not complaining, I’m about to get to see baby Nobunaga so I’m happy. I’m just tired of needing to do a re-read every time and sort out the fluff from the parts I feel like I actually need to remember in order to keep things straight. Sure, what I consider “fluff” will likely come back to haunt me later and I’ll probably have to re-read this arc about six more times by the end. Luckily it’s awesome...I think. That’s Hunter x Hunter for ya. I’m sure it’ll melt my face off by the end. So let’s go from one extreme of sibling bonds to the other and place your bets on who emerges the next king of Kakin!
1st Prince Benjamin: Ew, no. Muscles McHardass and the Stupid Jumpsuit Apparatus? Too obvious even for hack writers. Will likely die in spectacularly embarrassing fashion.
2nd Prince Camilla: Hey! You’re a crazy bitch... I like her. She has what it takes to be a woman in leadership. How you gonna kill her? Checkmate bastards. I mean figurative bastards not the double scar ones.
3rd Prince Zhang Lei: Booooooring. Coin ability seems cool though. I had an RPG villain who did something similar.
4th Prince Tserri: Only calling him that from now on because they made a point of it. Definitely intrigued. He’s set up as a clear villain but the more I see the more I wonder if awakening Nen isn’t pushing him towards something like we saw with Meruem. It’s changing him. That plus the old friends is a cool story bubbling. That said...this mutha has a date with a certain chain dude. He might have the best story, but I don’t see a winner. Too obvious. (See #9)
5th Prince Tsubeppa: Nice to see women in STEM I guess. Gonna do something other than play Dr. Bunsen? Meh.
6th Prince Tyson: Heh, this chick cracks me up. Probably the biggest wildcard. This is a long sea voyage, people are going to get bored enough to read that book. It’s such a devious trap...think about it, even an enemy reading it to try and glean some edge could fall under her spell. I know she doesn’t seem as clear a threat, but keep an eye on Tyson. Never underestimate the power of delusion and a sexy man-harem.
7th Prince Luzurus: Define “winner.” He might not end up king, but a free cruise spent getting high with Basho sounds like a hell of a time. I’m pulling for ya buddy. You’re right, screw learning Nen superpowers. That’d be like, a total bummer maaaan. More anime potheads.
8th Prince Sale-Sale: First off, momma’s name Swinko-Swinko is awesome and I always remember that. This dude is like Luzurus but not as fun. Though...given daddy’s titty demon Nen Beast, you certainly seem like the most chip off the old block. Otherwise...meh. Easy to kill someone plowing is way to the Dark Continent. Much easier than a perma-paranoid pothead and his warrior poet bodyguard.
9th Prince Halkenburg: First off, nerrrrrrd. With that out of the way, a favorite for good reason. Clearly getting a lot of focus and he has an iron will. This dude is convicted as all getout. That said, starting from the pictured scene (which is a gorgeous panel) I smell Tserri’s opposite. This contest is going to shatter this man’s high-minded ideals. He’ll either win but come out the other side a brutal tyrant or die after crossing a nasty moral boundary.
10th Prince Kacho: KAAAAAAAAAAAAAACHO!!!!! Made me bawl like a baby. You were too good for this world Kacho. Even though you were the second out, you have a path to victory because...
11th Prince Fugetsu: Guardian angel sis has this taken care of. Fugetsu just needs to focus on being her lovely self. Together forever bitches, to hell with the rest! Especially since that tunnel ability is easy mode for assassination should Fugetsu turn to the dark side. Would she use it? No. Would Nencho? Hell yes. Count me on Team Twinsies. They have Ms. Melody.
12th Prince Momoze: Eh, someone had to die first. Kinda wish it wasn’t here because I did like how she seemed like she had a more shrewd mind than appearances would suggest.
13th Prince Maryam: Bold strategy. Hide out in extradimensional space and hope everyone just kinda...forgets about you. Given the high likelihood of a mass murder-suicide to top this arc off, I actually like his chances. Especially with Biscuit in his corner.
14th Prince Woble: First off, you do have to consider Kurapika’s angling for a stalemate. Which is a real possibility of course. As much a possibility as teaching everyone Nen backfiring. Or getting distracted by an amusing task The Phantom Troupe. Being attached to the main character in the arc is of course a bonus, Queen Oito seems in it to win it, but all of that pales in comparison to Woble’s biggest advantage. Absolute gigchad Bill. Seriously future Rhea, don’t forget about Bill.

chess master s/o - hajime, izuru, nagito
@shushushoe asked: Admirations! I hope you had a great day. Anyways, may i request a Hajime, Izuru and Nagito with a s/o that enjoys chess? Including that they’re known to be a chess professional (chess master)? They’re like very sleep deprived and known to have plenty of strategies to be very intelligent, later on to find out who the culprit is, meaning checkmate. :) Good luck on the request, take care!
a/n: this request reminded me of komugi from hxh 😪 hope you had a great day too!!
——— hajime hinata
going against you in chess reminds him how talentless he is
now matter how many strategies he studies you were always a step ahead of him. always
even when there was one time he thought he was going to win, you ended up switching your strategy thus wining
there was even a time when as soon as he made his first move you told him how the game was going to end and you were right
are you sure your not the ultimate psychic?
if your versing anyone else hajime doesn’t even have to hope that you win because since he’s knows you, and you never lost to anyone
if your not an ultimate and you’re in the reserve course just like him he’ll tell you to request to switch because your chess playing is definitely on a ultimate level
the only time he asks you to stop playing is when you stop sleeping to study your plays or learn new ones
your sleep is more important to him than your talent <3
——— izuru kamukura
if you think i based this off komugi and meruem 👩🏾🦯 you caught me
chess is definitely boring for him but hearing rumors around school about how good you are, he’ll request to play you
at first, he thought you were extremely predictable. how did you even get your ultimate playing like this
but out of no where they way you played changed drastically scoring you the win
now you’ve caught his attention
he’ll ask to play again, mostly just to study your strategy, but he also wants to win
what really surprised him was when you two were playing again you told him how he was going to play and how you were going to win
he says nothing instead changing his plays but he still loses.
you seem to be the only person he tolerates at hopes peak so you two become “friends” in some sort of way
the more you two hang out the more he notices himself caring more about you
for example, when you don’t get enough sleep he’ll pull you away from whatever your doing and tell you to get sleep
it would probably take him a while for him to realize that he actually likes you but when he does he’ll ask you out quick
also he’ll keep playing you in chess till he wins but don’t intentionally let him win he’ll know and he won’t be happy about it
——— nagito komaeda
he really likes playing with you
he’s helping you better your ultimate while spending time with you? what more could he ask for?
now nagito is pretty lucky so he figured that his luck might let him win
but he couldn’t be more wrong
you always defeated him not that he minded
even when you tell him how the game will end his impressed
“i expect nothing less from the ultimate chess master s/o, you’re so amazing.”
when you play other students he’s definitely always hyping you up, you’re his s/o and he’ll support you in everything you do
just like with the others, he hates when you don’t get enough sleep
you shouldn’t be playing while your body is literally screaming at you to sleep
yeah it makes him proud when you still win when you’re on 1% but you need to priorities your needs first
he’ll ask you to sleep but if you refuse nagito will bargain with you saying he’ll cuddle with you or anything else just so you’ll say yes
after you’re re-energized then you can get back to playing

do you think kuraneon is gonna be canon in the official hxh universe and what must have happened?
Whether or not they would be canon is up to Sir Togashi himself. While he does have romantic elements in his previous works like Yu Yu Hakusho and Ten de Showaru Cupid, it's not as explicit in HxH (e.g. Meruem/Komugi).
If you asked me this before knowing about the KuraNeon Marriage Theory (will give a link in the reblog later on) and KuraNeon paired up in mobile games, I would have said "0% chance" because we do not see them interact on-screen (even if I had shipped them since I first laid my eyes on Neon).
However, it is kinda sus that Kurapika became a Nostrade Family Young Boss; with Light and Neon nowhere shown. The more "accepted" theory is that Light is unable to continue and Neon is dead (although I do have rebuttals about Neon being dead - that's another conversation). I do wonder why he had to keep their mafia family name - there is no reason to if he truly let them wither. But from Light's last appearance in a manga panel, Kurapika did reassure him that he'll handle everything and you see the Nostrade mafia family organisation doing well under Kurapika. Which is also why my friend went to bring up that plausible KuraNeon Marriage Theory.
I know that a lot of people think they don’t interact, but that is on-screen. After York New City arc, we don’t see Kurapika until way later, however him being in charge as the Nostrade Boss indicates that he stayed with the Nostrades. God knows what they did while living under one roof.
Another thing that is major sus is the mobile games. Even non-shippers are baffled why KuraNeon is a thing. Kurapika and Neon are seen dressed as Hikoboshi and Orihime in two sets of the mobage cards; a romantic couple that is known in a Japanese legend and celebrated on 7 July (Tanabata Festival). They are even shown writing on coloured papers in one of the cards + Kurapika holding a bamboo - these coloured papers are used during the Tanabata festival where wishes are written on them and hung on bamboo. It is believed that the reunion between the two lovers Hikoboshi and Orihime are so joyous that they grant the wishes of the people. As far as I know, the only pairing that gets to have a Orihime/Hikoboshi theme in their cards is Machi/Hisoka; and we do see Hisoka/Machi having a soft spot for one another in canon (in the current arc, Machi does patch him up after his defeat and Hisoka spared her).
Hmmm.. I should make a post about this whole Tanabata thing actually. Asides from that, they are also the v-day banner in 2019 for the games and she gave him a cake during the valentine’s day event, to which showed a scene of him thinking about what to give her back (and low and behold, Kurapika’s White’s Day card featured him with a gift and him wearing the same outfit of the scene where he thought about what to give her).
In a separate mobile game, they have a special attack together. Their mobage cards have identical backgrounds and themes. Therefore, it isn’t just one mobile game that does this. It makes me wonder why the official team devs do that when this pairing shipping sub-fandom is really small and many even dislike it.
Even as a shipper, it also baffles me why devs do that when they have little screentime together (gotta be more objective here). If you do consider the KuraNeon Marriage Theory or consider that they might end up together in the manga, it makes sense why the official hxh game devs pair them together. And I am unsure about the source - but I think for Japanese manga production of non-manga material, you need approval from the writer? All the more to be suspicious of the mobile games that contains KuraNeon above every single pairing out there.
Hence, if you ask me, there is a chance of Kurapika/Neon being canon. How that might happen is a little tricky and depending on the type of portrayal they will be (I have four interpretations of this ship on my pinned post lol).
I’m not sure if you only define canon as the vanilla/romantic type, or it also includes one that is a little twisted. I've noticed that hxh has friendship and family dynamics that are already complicated and not as wholesome as one would think. I do believe that if KuraNeon were to be canon, it would be the latter interpretation.
There are actually a few things that are needed to be considered for it to happen: 1) Neon’s fate - she needs to be alive (or maybe not) Now, a lot of people believe she died because Chrollo’s book speculates that she does. However, we don’t see her dead body. It’s literally just Chrollo’s interpretation. This is contrasted by Kurapika that states that the previous Scarlet Eye owners did not need to be killed (and the “daughter of a mafia leader” is one of them). If the daughter of a mafia leader is truly Neon, then it brings a question of who should you believe more: Chrollo or Kurapika? (Imo it’s super interesting how these two guys who are enemies have different narratives on the same girl).
Of course, there was this potential discrepancy I found while re-watching this arc. The Scarlet Eyes that Kurapika bidded for 2.9 billion was a fake. They thought it was stolen when Squala took it with him and died - but it was actually that Kortopi’s Gallery Fake copy disappears after 24hour. So technically, the Eyes is with the Troupe. Now, assuming that Togashi has not forgotten this detail (I believe he still remembers), I do think that it is possible that since Chrollo is the type to get bored of the stuff he steals, he will just sell it and it will be obtained by the later owners. As for “the daughter of a mafia leader”, I’m sure it’s Neon that Kurapika is referring to - be it him mentioning her as merely a previous owner despite the set of Scarlet Eyes being “stolen” or she bought another set. (There is a chance that is not Neon, but another daughter of a random mafia leader, but what are the chances of another daughter being like that?)
I guess I just wanted to point this detail out because many people readily believed Chrollo’s book (it was not even himself). He stated that he did not know when it disappeared.
As for that “Hisoka killed Neon” theory, while it is believable and interesting, the only thing that is doubtful for that is that a) Hisoka could not have gone off to kill Neon in such a short period of time, b) that would be an insult to Kurapika’s capabilities if she was under his care, c) the fortune-telling ability doesn’t bother Hisoka. Pakunoda and Hisoka had a short conversation about the fortune and both of them acknowledged that the future changed. Hisoka wrote over his fortune despite having a good one to manipulate the events in hopes of fighting Chrollo - that is an indication of his belief that he writes his own future, and therefore which is why I argue that the fortune-telling ability never bothered him.
As for the “Kurapika killed Neon” theory, I think... they all need to get one thing straight about Kurapika: as much as possible, except for the spiders, he doesn’t kill (or at least dislikes to kill). He stated that none of the owners had to die even if two preferred to die. If there’s a way, he will not shed blood. Besides, Kurapika doesn’t actually hate Neon - contrary to popular belief. There wasn’t a single manga panel that indicates his hatred for her; or even annoyance. It was only the time where Mellody mentioned that he will kill her if she stands in the way, but Kurapika, as much as mentioned before, doesn’t kill if there is an alternative way.
I have yet to fully explore possible reasons why Neon’s ability disappears from Chrollo’s book if she’s still alive (my friend thinks it’s related to Kurapika’s dolphin ability). However, there are many rebuttals to the theories on how she died.
But yeah, I think for it to be canon, Neon has to be alive. Unless... they were already canon and he sailed to the Dark Continent and she died slightly before that event (tbh I rather not have this).
2) Kurapika’s fate - he needs to live
Number 2 is a condition is if they aren’t canon yet before he sails to the Dark Continent.
One thing that confuses people is that they think that just because Kurapika is under the Kakin Employment, it means that he is no longer affiliated with the Nostrades. The Kakin Employment contract is temporary - he is still affiliated with the Nostrades (and their business is bodyguarding, take note). As for him being in the Zodiac, he is still the Nostrade Family Young Boss - being part of the Zodiacs is like some political committee.
I know there are rumours (I say rumours cause I don’t see the interview script by my own eyes) that Togashi once indicated that the Phantom Troupe and Kurapika will all die. I do think that Togashi can kill one of his main characters, but there’s one thing that makes me question whether he changed his mind: Nitro Rice from the Dark Continent.
The Nitro Rice is a thing in the Dark Continent that prolongs one’s life - a direct solution to Kurapika’s Emperor Time problem. I think if he does last until they reach the Dark Continent, he has a chance to prolong his lifespan that he has lost while using Emperor Time.
Now, if he indeed gets to survive, manages to complete his mission, there’s another problem he will face: a will to live. Because currently, all he has ever lived for is bringing justice to his clan. Beyond that, what can he live for? Which kind of makes the ending for him to happily live with someone (be it his friends or having a family) a suitable one.
3) Neon’s development
Neon is seriously misunderstood among the fandom - even her personality. I’ve seen a lot of Kurapika x (other character) ships where Neon is the 3rd party in fanfics; and it is a one-sided love.
However, Neon is actually an emotionally detached person while Kurapika is the one that gets attached to people, even if he initially avoids them. Neon has what psychologists will call “Avoidant-Dismissive Attachment Style” while Kurapika has “Avoidant-Fearful Attachment Style”. This is rightfully so due to their different backgrounds. I actually believe that between the two of them, Kurapika will be the one who falls first or if this is one-sided, Kurapika is the one that likes her because of their attachment styles.
Neon has zero friends, is materialistic and lacks sympathy for dead people (the complete opposite of Kurapika). She believes in focusing on the present and the living (it’s actually a pretty good principle to live for). She needs to learn how to be more attached to people and learn compassion - which she actually is seen as being capable of. She was surprised that Eliza broke down and cried, and even forgo bidding physically. I think this is an indication of her starting to feel sympathy for people and perhaps being more mature - cemented by the fact that she lost her powers.
Therefore, I do think she needs to learn how to warm her heart up to people (which she might have already started to after the York New incident) if she were to feel something for Kurapika.
4) Kurapika’s view of her
Okay, this is one factor that is either you take it the vanilla way or the kinky way lmao. I actually wrote a Cognitive Dissonance Theory for Kurapika on my Tumblr post for this one (will try to link it in the reblog).
Kurapika’s initial belief is that flesh collectors are scums who should be arrested, yet he is surprised to see that his flesh-collecting employer is a girl of his age. I think there is already dissonance in his mind there once he met her.
Contrary to popular belief, Kurapika doesn’t hate Neon (there’s no single manga panel that ever once showed he detest her or feel annoyed with her; as compared to other employees of hers). In fact, he does quickly understand that Neon is being exploited by her father - to which he corrects Basho about the situation. In the manga, when he woke up after the fever, he says her name (in the 2011 anime, it was “Boss” but in the manga, it’s “Neon”) and immediately asks about her; which indicates that he is concerned for her. Of course, she is his employer but in that situation where he is bedridden and not working, him asking about her won’t be just due to him working as a bodyguard.
However, this doesn’t show that he has feelings for her. It only proves that a) he doesn’t hate her, b) he does care about her. He needs to see Neon as more than just a flesh collector for him to like her; on top of spending time with one another. He needs to see (if he hasn’t already) that she is a girl his age that has a different predicament than him.
This is the vanilla way I guess.
The darker and more saucy interesting interpretation would be him thinking it’s okay to objectify her just as much as she objectifies his clan’s eyes (that’s another post I gotta do for another day - but hey, this interpretation is paralleled to Tserreidnich/Theta).
5) Spending Time with one another
I think as mentioned, it is already a given that Kurapika and Neon had spent time together under one roof off-screen while we see Gon and Killua on-screen during the 3 arcs. However, I think Neon cannot suddenly become less detached and Kurapika cannot want something more than his mission at the moment; so I do think that even if they had spent time before Dark Continent Exploration arc, Neon and Kurapika needs to spend time together after he comes back (that’s if they haven’t banged before he sailed to the Dark Continent like they did in my fic lmao).
So yeah, I think these are generally the five things that I think should happen if they were to be canon.
I don’t know why I was compelled to do a long-ass post of this, but I hope this answers your question. I can go on and write a report about this but Imma stop here for now.

Those endings are stressing me out. How do you think it would really end?
Hi !! Dw, I think we’re all stressed out about the ending HAHAHA
Honestly, I'm a hopeless optimist so I might not be the most objective on this, but I believe that what OP said was the best ending is actually what’s going to happen. I believe that by the end of the manga, we’ll get a happy ending with every character being free of their past and moving forward towards the future. Gon being free to live a life of his own, not feeling like he has to walk in his dad’s footsteps. Killua having completely healed from his trauma and completely cutting ties with his family, enjoying a life with the people he loves. Kurapika having given up the path of revenge and slowly healing and living in the present instead of in the past. Leorio becoming a doctor and being able to do what he loves. And yes, I also do believe that we’ll get canon confirmation of both Killugon and Leopika.
I know Togashi is all about “deconstruction” of the shounen genre, and that since the genre tends to have happy endings, some people believe it’d make sense for HxH to end on a tragic note, a sad critique of shounen as a whole. But I don’t think it’ll be the case. Togashi loves shounen and shounen tropes. What he does is not deconstructing, imo, it’s more like a tribute. It’s not “i’m going to destroy that trope completely”, it’s more like “i’m going to take that shounen trope people enjoy and show what could happen if you do it a little differently”.
On top of that, Togashi’s writing has also been extremely positive, with beautiful lessons about love, second chances and human connection, and it’s echoed in multiple character arcs (like Gon being given a second chance at a clean life and Killua overcoming his trauma instead of sinking into darkness) or themes (Meruem finding the meaning of life in Komugi). HxH may be dark and tragic, with horrible elements that break the reader’s hearts, but I believe that at the end of the day, the message of the narrative is that sometimes, bad things happen, but love and positivity trumps all. That general idea that love and human connection can save your life is a major part of HxH in my opinion.
Considering those two things, I believe HxH will get a happy ending. It wouldn’t fit the narrative to have a tragic ending, and Togashi’s writing has always been very consistent, I honestly don’t see him throwing away the amazingly positive message in HxH’s story just for the sake of tragedy.
We discussed this with @/reeeyachi and @/sincerelysamedt, but YYH ended on a positive note, with the characters realizing that fighting just to fight is meaningless and choosing to settle for normal, regular lives. It feels like, with that in mind and the themes and lessons of hxh (that power is usually toxic and that the best things in life are oftentimes the little detours), this type of ending could definitely fit HxH. All the characters straying from the Hunters path, since none of them really wanted to become one in the first place, and choosing to live an almost boring life of normalcy, surrounded by the people they love. It’d be the best way to close HxH and highlight the general theme of the narrative : the little detours are more important.
As for the canon confirmation of these pairings, I wrote a short post about why I think Killugon will become canon, and the first part of this post goes over this subject too. As for Leopika, I have fewer arguments, but considering that it’s likely HxH is Togashi reigniting his “Trouble Quartet” project, with his baseline being “my 4 protagonists are gay”, then I wouldn’t be surprised if Leopika became canon too. Killua and Gon and Leorio and Kurapika were written as pairs, and since it’s Togashi and there’s been a LOT of subtext, pretty sure it’s gay.
In short, a happy ending with the characters choosing a normal life would fit the theme of HxH, and I really believe this is where the story is headed. I honestly think we’ll get a happy ending, with all the characters free of their past trauma and enjoying a happy, normal life filled with love from the people they met along the way.

Unpopular HxH opinions
Alright so, here’s some of my “unpopular” hxh opinions. I’m not meaning to offend anyone, these are opinions and I am perfectly accepting of other points of view, by stating them I am not impliying in any way that your are wrong.
Also, please keep in mind I’ve only read the manga (once), never seen the anime, which from my understanding further develops certains scenes. I also went in after a month of lurking in the fandom and had certain expectiations, which may have spoiled my experience at times.
In the manga, white backgrounds and closeups are fine (in certain parts). When characters are talking in transitional scenes, it’s fine. You’re reading quick dialogue, a more complex panel would be wasted with the short reading time. Although I believe Togashi does go overboard at certain points, he (almost) always uses different shots/backgrounds for the more important parts, the one that the eye will spend more times on. There’s exceptions, but readers should understand that panels of characters saying stuff like “yeah/let’s go/ok/etc.” should be simple, it’d be a waste of drawing time otherwise.
Pariston is kinda... boring, at least in the manga. The fandom hypes him up a lot, and I do like the idea of him, but when it comes to the actualy story, to me he only shines when interacting with Ging.
Also, Anime Pariston is prettier that Manga Pariston.
Greed Island arc is good. It’s fun, it has many moments that cement Gon’s lack of self worth and his relationship with Killua, and it serves as a nice break between two dark arcs, thus making the CAA more impactful.
Regarding the fandom, I’ve had the impression people will just claim that the darkest arc is the best? I could be totally off here, but sometimes it feels like fans are just repeating popular ideas, without thinking why the arc is good.
My favourite arc is Greed Island, but I do recognize that the CAA is masterfully written and it has some of the best scenes and characters of the manga (like Shaiapouf). It is better than GI, but I still prefer the other: for once I like the “happier” one.
Shaiapouf is an amazing character and reducing him to “annoying and crazy” is just ridiculus. You can find him that, but it has to be recognized that his characterization is outstanding.
Shaiapouf is more interesting than Pitou, whose character development wasn’t executed as well, at least according to me. While with Shaiapouf we get a few, subtle hints to his development, Pitou just says an extablishing phrase (”What the king wants is what matters”) and then, once Meruem asks them to heal Komugi, they have that key moment. But that’s kind of it? I don’t know, perhaps I’m just biased because I hate cat people and loved Pokkle. Super open to debate about this one!
Youpi is interesting, although less than Shaiapouf. His changing ideas about honor and conflict were cool.
Chrollo and the Phantom Troupe are wasted potential, not bad characters. Ok, listen, I know that I diss them a lot, but. In the York Shin Arc there was this whole setting up about group dynamics and how living in a disfunctional society impacts people: the Spider is composed of people who’ve found their purpose in the group. It has the potentiality to be interesting, how they value the idea of the spider more than the memeber. And yet, this is ultimatly left undeveloped, which is a pity.
Of course, when I talk about development I am referring to a characterization that doesn’t justify their actions, but simply makes them more well rounded characters.
Chrollo was literally set up to be a man going through an identy crisis, but in the end he’s just a pretentious, edgy asshole.
Why is Shalnark popular? He has little to no appereances in the manga. I get that he’s pretty, but still... Does the anime develop him more?
I love the idea of Killua/Gon, but if the manga were to focus on their friendship I’d be fine with it too. To be honest, sometimes I feel like the reason certain interactions come off as romantic is due to their codependency - however, I guess it could be both.
Wether they end up as friends or “lovers” (using the term loosely ‘cause they’re kids), first they need theraphy. Mito, do something.
On the topic of shipping... I like Leorio/Kurapika, but the manga doesn’t really seem to be going for it? Only when they met after the Election Arc there seemed to be some implications. I dunno, I guess we’ll see. Togashi come back please.
Why do people portray Zeno as the sane one of the family? He allowed Silva to abuse all of his children. He is a bad person. You can like him! But don’t claim he’s sane, he just doesn’t like bullshit.
Kalluto supremacy. (may not be controverial, but needs to be stated)
And last, but not least, my most controversial opinion.
Let me start off by saying that I love the idea of Alluka and Nanika. I love what they represent and I’m truly happy that so many people feel represented by these characters. However, I couldn’t help to find Alluka a bit... dull, at least in the manga. She’re mostly there, looks cute, does nearly nothing... that’s it. She has a lot of potential and I hope she’ll get more development in the future. From my understanding, the anime fleshes her out a bit more? Also, let me reiterate that I like her character, just think there’s room for improvement (in the way she appears in the plot). There were some great scenes, my favourite being when Alluka “defended” Nanika: I really liked the methaphor and would love for more stuff like that.
I’m also concerned by her dynamic with Killua. I am afraid that having to take care of someone else will only fuel Killua’s codependent tendencies. I hope this relationship will actually be an healing experience for him.
...that’s it, I think! If you made it this far... wow. Thank you! Would love to hear your opinions, I’m always open to debate.

Hm... Let me see... Hunter x Hunter (001) and Kurapika (003) for the ask prompt. 💌
Oooh yes.
Favorite character: See, before now I’d have confidently said Kurapika, and I think I’ll stand by that till my dying day...but he is very closely followed by Kite lately. Not that I disliked Kite at all before (how can you dislike him??), but I looked at his character more recently than I had in the past, and he has certainly grown on me.
Least Favorite character: Nobody makes my blood boil more than Tonpa. Seriously, that guy can suck it.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): I’m not big into the whole shipping thing (same with my answer to this from OPM), but... HisoIllu and KilluGon are the ones that come to mind. OH! And Pokkle/Ponzu.
Character I find most attractive: It’s a tie between Kastro and Kite. Probably Kastro because I imagine him smelling a lot better. LOL
Character I would marry: Either Kastro or Wing. They seem the most likely to settle down eventually and have a more or less normal life afterwards.
Character I would be best friends with: Pokkle looks like he’d be a lot of fun. He’s so energetic and curious (which was his downfall) that you couldn’t possibly be bored with him around.
a random thought: i miss my white haired boys ;-;
An unpopular opinion: I don’t get all the hype about Leorio. I don’t dislike him, he’s a cool dude, but I don’t see why so many people are so attracted to him. And I’m gonna lose followers for this, but his body type reminds me of a strand of uncooked spaghetti.
My Canon OTP: KilluGon is pretty much canon at this point lbr
My Non-canon OTP: Hisoka and Illumi, mostly because the crackfic possibilities are endless. It gives me a good laugh but I’ve seen some well-written fics of it on the more angsty side.
Most Badass Character: BISCUIT 1000%
Most Epic Villain: Hmmm...I’d probably go with Meruem, because not only was the guy OP af but I was not expecting the way the Chimera Ant Arc ended and I have never bawled as much as I have over an anime. So...yeah, Meruem.
Pairing I am not a fan of: Hisoka/Gon or anything in that realm dear heavens i need a puke bucket after typing that pairing
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I’m a broken record but this is my blog and I don’t care, I wish we had seen more of Kastro beyond his character existing to show people how not to Nen.
Favourite Friendship: Pretty obvious, but Killua and Gon! They brought out a lot in one another, and I think it was especially beneficial for Killua’s own growth and development as a person.
Character I most identify with: In very different ways, Pokkle and Kurapika. Pokkle’s overall attitude and demeanor, and Kurapika’s more personal struggles and emotions. OH AND SHOOT because of his anxieties and how he went about overcoming them! The dude is badass!
Character I wish I could be: honestly, I really wouldn’t want to have the misfortune of being anyone stuck in that world. It seems way too stressful from a first person perspective, LOL. So probably Mito. She seems to be doing alright.
Kurapika
How I feel about this character: LOVE him. And I feel so sorry for him. I just want him to catch a break.
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: I don’t think Kurapika is in a place to have a romantic relationship, to be quite honest. He needs time to heal and focus on himself, and realize that he doesn’t have to bear the weight of his trauma all on his own. At the same time, it shouldn’t be up to his partner to “fix” him...so he needs to focus on achieving some sort of peace before he can go pursue a relationship.
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: I love seeing Kurapika having friends; he needs them. So basically anyone: Killua, Gon, Leorio...he may not want them, but the fleeting moments where he can smile and relax shows how being around these people and having friends positively influences his well being. He deserves happiness!
My unpopular opinion about this character: Skipping this one because I really don’t have one.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I don’t actually wish for this to have happened in canon, because I don’t think it would have really benefited the story much nor his character, but the angry part of me really wishes Kurapika had killed Chrollo when he had the chance.
Favorite friendship for this character: Pairo </3
My crossover ship: Skipping this one because I really don’t have one.

I need a better name then “Click Click he’s a speeds boy” but...
@mimzilla is awesome and made this a thing.
hey look it’s part one
Kite wandered.
From tumblr to facebook to twitter, he wandered.
He was bored out of his fucking mind.
He landed on Twitch finally.
He groaned.
He really didn’t feel up to streaming.
He still browsed around, twenty and thirty somethings all mumbling about shitty or well the game is going.
He licked his lips and sat up, typing a quick phrase into the search bar.
PitouU
He landed on her stream mid fire fight, with the sounds of gunfire and swearing abound.
An ad for shoes played and he pulled off his headphones, focusing instead on chat.
“fuck em up pitouu”
“poUf You fuck ass!”
“What is Meruem is even doing/”
“He’s tanking dumbass!”
Comment as been removed
“That’s not cool man”
Then the ad was over and it was back to the stream.
Kite put on his headphones again.
PItouU’s overlay was simple, sub counter on the top right, webcam on the bottom left, game taking up most of the screen.
She was playing overwatch, or something like it.
Kite blinked twice when he looked at the webcam, unsure what he saw was correct.
Pitou may have been playing a “Game” but her face couldn’t tell you that.
Her eyes were wide, but laser focused, pupils jumping all over the screen.
Her mouth was in a thin, concentrated line.
She was playing some kind of healer, a staff shooting yellow healing stuff at a large robot looking guy.
“Meruem.” She said, tone completely inflectionless
“Yeah, go for it,” responded someone Kite couldn’t see, presumably Meruem.
Right after Pitou said it, she dropped the staff and pulled out a small pistol.
It’s fire rate was slow, and it didn’t sound like it would do much damage, but one of the small character took a string of three or four headshots and flopped onto the floor.
Pitou seemed to be running blindly towards the enemy, firing with an almost unfair accuracy.
Eventually however she was killed, another copy of the large robot on the enemy team flailing his hammer made sure of that.
She didn’t seem disappointed, and she didn’t slouch back at the respawn counter’s timer.
She switched to another character, a small woman with a weird blue dial on her her chest.
The timer to respawn ticked down slowly and instead of relaxing Pitou seemed to tense more.
She licked her lips.
Two Seconds.
One.
The spectate screen faded away and she was already outside the spawn door.
the small character she played jumped forward three times in quick succession, and pitou kept moving. She was about halfway to the fight.
Right outside the capture point, she paused.
“Three″ said the voice Kite couldn’t see the face.
“Two″ Oh yeah, he was call Meruem.
“One″
At one someone in the match yelled “Hammer Down!” and Pitou zipped into the room.
It looked like the enemy team was all laying on their backs, health bars still full.
Pitou was quick to fix that, the same brutal accuracy killing two of the larger one’s before they even stood back up.
By the time the other three stood up, they were all nearly dead.
A short execution and point capture later, the game was over; with an all caps “Victory!” shining over the screen.
Kite shivered involuntarily.
Her deathly concentration had it’s own... draw.
Pitou’s concentration had softened, but there was still a razor’s edge to it.
He felt more strangely then he had yesterday about those eyes watching him.
He clicked onto the “Subscribe” button, and typed in a short message.
“Good match.”
He shook himself.
No, that’s too short.
“Good match, fun to watch.”
He shrugged and pressed enter.

☼ || on shipping & gon’s sexuality.
{ do not reblog. }
Gon is asexual and panromantic. The primary reason I went with this is clearly because Gon is young but also a multitude of other reasons.
Having grown up on Whale Island which only has one (1) other girl his age, he doesn’t have a lot of exposure to sexuality and romance. There is no influence from the other curious boys trying to learn about the ““dirty stuff””. Adding on to that, Gon isn’t very tech savvy ( see: not knowing what Joystation is until Killua explained it to him ), so I’m guessing that Gon doesn’t really care that much about technology, which is understandable since Whale Island seems like a island uses minimal technology, if any at all. He probably grew up thinking that they’re not that necessary or useful. So he probably doesn’t watch the TV that much either -- ie one of the main sources of information about sexuality and romance.
His only knowledge about sex probably comes from Mito’s homeschooling, and just studying wouldn’t make him interested in things like that. He’d rather listen to heroic tales of mythologies and history or even better -- explore the world! Compared to that, sexuality education is a bore.
And there’s that one instance where Gon reveals that he went on many dates and was taught many things, but that doesn’t mean that he is... experienced in that field. Killua may think he’s an adult due to that, but a few episodes later, (during the discussion about Palm and Meruem possibly copulating) he still assumes that Gon has no idea what the invasion team is talking about . And judging by Gon’s lack of horror/embarrassment, I’m inclined to think Killua is right. Gon doesn’t think about sexual things. In fact, he has no interest in it. And here’s where I bring in 1999 -- the infamous scene where Killua is watching p//orn in the hotel. While Gon did turn red in the face, his response is a quick but calm rejection. No over-dramatic freak-out, or even hesitation. He just doesn’t want to watch it. Uninterested.
In the same vein, he doesn’t have much interest in romance either. Though, he probably appreciates it more than sex. Gon is someone who likes a lot of people. He grew up with Mito’s love, and he probably likes the rest of the people on the island in a similar familial way. And he probably can’t differentiate between the different types of love because the only ones he has been exposed to is familial love.
Even, friendship, he’s only exposed to it when he met Killua. ( see: Gon acknowledging that Killua is his first friend ) That’s why he (and Killua both) makes so many mistakes throughout their journey. It’s both their first attempt at being a friend.
But he probably agrees with the whole “Love is Good” idea. He grew up with a mother’s love and love his family as much. But so, he still doesn’t think about it much. 80% of Gon’s mind is Adventure, and to him, love is very low on his priority. Even after pissing Palm off, and promising to go out with her as an apology, he still decides to prioritise his Adventure-related things -- turning down a date to go to the gym; asking his girlfriend to wait until he’s done with the Adventure thing.
I wrote this wall of text mostly just to say that Gon is Very New to this whole sexuality & romance thing. For the former, he just doesn’t care -- which is why my Gon is asexual. But for the latter? He does certainly love people, and is very open to the idea of romance, but he still can’t differentiate between the different types of Love. And it’s worse because he doesn’t think about romance much.
TL;DR For a ship to happen, you’ll have to make him think about love & tell the difference between the different loves. Or at least make him ponder about the relationships he has.
