The fins I chose for Gonta are based of Sea-Turtle. He was the last one of the maincast, so I rushed him a little bit, sorry. But finally I’m done, after 3 years. However, there’s still a little bit more to go!

“Galactic Melancholy”-esque talentswap KG fic?? PLEASE tell us more, pretty please!

Alright!

So, like Galactic Melancholy, “Danganronpa: Atlantic Sorrow” is a talentswap fic with a mix of characters from the game! It takes place in a mysterious underwater facility, and is headed by a mysterious mermaid known as Monohina, heading by her crab and fish sidekicks.

The primary twist is that these talents are taken from Danganronpa Another and Danganronpa Another 2!

Our protagonist is Komaru Naegi, the Ultimate Pilot! Thanks to her having an Ultimate talent, I’d believe that she would be a far more confident person, without her losing that good ol’ Komaru charm. In spite of her hermbo energy, Komaru’s shocking moments of intelligence and craftiness could help her survive in the diametric opposite of the sky!

But she is not alone in her endeavors, for she also has the help of:

Toko Fukawa, the cowardly and distrusting Ultimate Police Officer as well as Komaru’s support, with a hidden free-spirited side!

Sayaka Maizono, the charismatic and cheery Ultimate Merchant/famous advertising personality with a million-dollar smile!

Leon Kuwata, the burnt-out prodigy Ultimate Actor who wants nothing more than to step out of the limelight and follow a different dream!

Chihiro Fujisaki, the timid yet superbly-kind-hearted Ultimate Cheerleader who wants nothing more than to assert himself as a real man!

Sakura Oogami, the wise and contemplative Ultimate Psychologist, who’s a firm believer in a healthy body equalling a healthy mind!

Kazuichi Souda, the Ultimate Billiards Player who wishes to reinvent himself as a tough assertive person, but can’t shake his natural cowardice!

Hiyoko Saionji, the cute-looking yet mean-spirited and competitive Ultimate Painter, who is the latest scion of an influential family of traditional artists!

Peko Pekoyama, the stoic Ultimate Journalist with an analytical mind and a pair of sharp eyes that no piece of information is able to evade!

Nagito Komaeda, the gentle yet self-deprecating Ultimate Professor whose soft baggy eyes and dorky demeanor belies a hidden “zealous” side.

Gundham Tanaka, the Ultimate Lawyer who is the definition of a “bunny-ears lawyer” and has mysterious delusions of being the “fangs of justice”.

Shuichi Saihara, a guilt-stricken young boy who refuses to share his Ultimate talent, claiming that he doesn’t deserve it and “failed” at it.

Kaede Akamatsu, the optimistic yet hard-headed Ultimate Boxer, whose muscular body belies a dorky love for shonen manga and cake!

Angie Yonaga, the class’s foreign exchange student and the Ultimate Soccer Player who has weird and forceful methods for promoting “teamwork”!

Gonta Gokuhara, the nature-loving Ultimate Guitarist who is big in both body and heart and wishes to share his “songs from forest family”.

Ryoma Hoshi, a former ex-convict who is currently the Ultimate Priest and wishes to find solace and atonement for his past deeds in the form of “God”.

Can this cast of characters successfully evade the grasping hands of death, or will despair force them down into even deeper depths?

Also I distinctively remember that Kuripa and Miu did interact when Miu was made to have a super orgasm in front of Kuripa eating mac and cheese due to Anon bs magic. 😈

//But I’ve made a few notable changes from this original list, though I retain my stance on a lot of it.

I changed my mind of Kaito’s and went from Puss in Boots to instead Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Reason being in quite a few iterations of the story, Jack is portrayed as a bold and adventurous spirit, especially in his decision to climb the beanstalk and break through the clouds, just like Kaito.

I did a bit of swapping, and I replaced Peter Pan for Kokichi with Rumpelstiltskin, who I originally gave to Angie, but it definitely fits Kokichi more. For Angie, I’m still not quite sure, but I’m thinking she could have Ursula, as in Ursula from the Little Mermaid. She’s also a manipulative and cunning villain who lends their powers and aid to the heroes for a price, but she never really lies to Ariel, just like how Angie never really lies to the other students, even though she takes complete control of them.

Kiyo getting Scheherazade was something I got a lot of back talk with, since a lot of people didn’t agree with it. I originally picked it because the Arabian Night’s felt right up Kiyo’s alley with how many stories he had to tell and how in depth a character he was, but I did somewhat agree these reasons were flimsy. I’ve changed it to Rattenfänger, as in der Rattenfänger von Hameln, also known as the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The reason for this is also pretty loose, but Kiyo’s fascination with folklore and rituals aligns with the mysterious and eerie nature of the Pied Piper.

Ryoma was really difficult, but I decided to change his Persona to Vincent, which is, APPARENTLY, the real name of the prince from Beauty and the Beast. Someone fact check me on that one, but the point is Ryoma’s tough exterior and tragic past parallel the Beast’s transformation and redemption. It’s easy to forget this, but Ryoma was once a spoiled and wild kid before his bout with the crime family turned his life to hell.

I’ve decided to keep Kirumi’s Persona as it is, but I’ve found that Snow White is a decent alternative.

Lastly, Tsumugi getting Bluebeard, like Kiyo, was also a very controversial choice that basically nobody agreed with. In fact, there were many who told me that just because she had blue hair and a list of evil deeds, doesn’t mean it’s a good choice. So I changed it to Grimhilde, Aka, the evil queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Ultimately, I think this one is better, since Tsumugi’s obsession with perfection and her dual nature align with the Evil Queen’s vanity and the fact that both execute their evil plans by transforming their looks to fool the heroes.

//For now, everybody else remains the same, but I do appreciate any more suggestions and/or feedback.

Art Trade with @mangleschmidt and after reading the Mermaid Pirate AU I was hooked (no pun intended). I had never drawn the sea before, but was familiar with pirate attire. Also, I should not have this much power to draw Gonta this hot. 👀

Gonta and Kokichi accompany Miu to her favorite place, where everything suddenly goes horribly wrong.

Junk and litter towered high above their heads, cobbled together in complicated structures that would collapse if the wrong piece was pulled out. These structures formed a sprawling web of a maze, made of walls that creaked ominously as they swam by. With smaller inhabitants occupying the space and hiding places the towers provided, it was quite literally a trash city. A trash-land, made up of the junk that humans had continuously dumped overboard for well over a millennia.

Kokichi kept himself glued to Gonta’s side, casting doubtful looks up at the junk towers.

“Geez, I don’t know what you see in a creepy place like this,” he said. A shiver ran down his spine. The structures flooded the entire area with shadow, the water around them cold with foreboding. Also with the lack of sunlight. His voice lowered to a grumble. “What a weirdo.”

Gonta abruptly stopped swimming, so suddenly that Kokichi hit the brakes as well. He angled his tail fin sharply down, so that the drag of the water took out his momentum. “That’s really mean. Miu likes this place.”

Kokichi pouted, crossing his arms. He flipped over, his tail providing some distance between the two of them. Gaze averted, he said, “I’m only joking, Miu knows that. Right, Miu?”

Miu hadn’t stopped, already quite a bit ahead of them. She now hovered over some trash that bulged from the base of one of the towers, tilting her head. Kokichi didn’t know what she saw in the mess of glass and jagged metal, but evidently she saw something promising there, because she failed to respond to Kokichi.

He huffed, annoyed at being ignored. “Hello? Isn’t that right, Miu?”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever, don’t get your fins in a twist,” she said unsatisfactorily. Her gaze remained fixed on the pile. “Hm… oh! This is perfect!”

She snaked her arm down into a gap in the junk. Up to her elbow, she felt around for whatever she’d found. Then, finding it, she pushed back off the pile.

Or she tried to, at least. Halfway out, she jerked to a stop as she met resistance. Just as she did, Gonta jumped. He jerked his face up, his expression twisted with worry as he regarded the tower. Kokichi picked up on it, following Gonta’s gaze.

He saw nothing wrong, but a pit of dread formed in his gut.

Miu gave another tug, and Gonta’s shoulders hitched.

“Um, Miu?” he called out to her, letting himself drift forward on a flick of his tail. “I don’t think you should--.”

“Got it!” she exclaimed, and with one last tug yanked the object from the pile.

Finally, Kokichi heard what Gonta must have already picked up on. As the rusted part came free, a wailing groan reverberated in the current. He flinched; both his and Miu’s eyes shot up to the tilting tower. Motion further dislodged more junk from the heap and, like a house of cards, it caused even more to fall as the structure collapsed.

“Miu!” Kokichi exclaimed, reaching out a hand, but he flinched back as debris rained down. Eyes wide, it was as if all he could do was watch as Miu shrieked and covered her head, too much to swim away from. The towers bore down on her.

A sudden strong vortex of water slammed into him. He spun in place, head over fin in a dizzying tumble. When he regained control, he realized it had been Gonta who’d knocked him over, shooting straight past him with powerful beats of his tail. Kokichi gaped, calling out for Gonta as he lunged into danger. His arms wrapped around Miu, securing her against his chest.

And the towers came down around them.

“Gonta! Miu!”

Great clouds of sand rose into the water, disturbed by the falling trash. Kokichi couldn’t see the rubble where once the unstable structure stood; he could only imagine, with a constricted chest, the carnage that must remain. Terror spun his head, thoughts racing too fast for him to grab hold.

Miu, Gonta… Just like that, the two of them…

The sand began to settle; shadows shifted. Then, out of the dispersing cloud, Gonta swam out with Miu secure in his arms.

Relief gushed through him so powerfully that Kokichi sank to the ocean floor. It was an uncharacteristic display of emotion for him, he knew, but still he couldn’t stop trembling. They were ok. They were both ok.

Miu pressed her forehead hard into Gonta’s chest, gripping his shoulders so tightly that her knuckles were blanched white. Her shoulders shook, voice tremulous as she at last spoke, “Y-you just… h-have to jump at a chance to… h-h-hold me, huh?”

Where normally her tone would contain scorn, now there was none. Shaky and barely choking down a sob, Miu still hadn’t fully processed what had just happened.

“I am so glad you’re ok, Miu,” Gonta said, ignoring her chosen words to hug her close. Gentle for him, yet firm all the same; Kokichi knew from first-hand experience how much strength those thick, muscular arms possessed.

He’d felt it, too, when Gonta raced past him to get to Miu in time.

“D-dummies. You’re both, so dumb.” Tears, real ones, came to his eyes. He sobbed, clapping his hands over his mouth too late to stop it. “That should be… my line. G-geez!”

If that had really been the end, Kokichi didn’t know what he would do. No doubt his entire world would have shattered, like the tenuous pile of junk that had towered over the area. He couldn’t have handled it.

But that hadn’t happened. Thanks to Gonta’s quick action, they were both safe and alive. And, as the sand began to settle back over the previously-shadowed, chilling area, the sun began to filter through to shine on it once again.

*Has a hoard of shells. He won't tell anyone where he keeps them, unless he trusts them.

Kokichi Ouma:

*Likes to leave things on beaches just to confuse humans. You met him when you saw him do this.

*Likes being hugged.

Kiibo:

*Tries so hard to understand human speech patterns, but fails in a way that's actually kind of cute.

*Likes to swim next to small fishing boats.

Korekiyo Shinguji:

*Fascinated by humans. Often likes watching them and taking notes on their behavior.

*Being a cecaelia, he likes to wrap small boats with his tentacles. Sometimes he mistakes Paper Boats or RC boats for the real deal.

Ryoma Hoshi:

*Not interested in humans, except for the one he fell in love with.

*Surfaces mostly at night, because that's when he can see you without anyone finding out about him.

Rantaro Amami:

*Sleeps on the surface of an Island that nobody ever goes on.

*Feels slightly more comfortable around Humans then around other Mers.

*Instead of being into bugs, he's into crustaceans.

*Has a pet crab that you always see near him.
