This is my drawing for actress Elizabeth MacRae who turned 88 on February 22. She played Gomer's girlfriend Lou-Ann Poovie on GOMER PYLE USMC and she currently resides in North Carolina. Her character Lou-Ann was not only a spoof on the Southern Belle, but she was also a spoof on Marilyn Monroe's character Chérie from the movie BUS STOP (1956). Gomer meets her in a nightclub called the Congo Club where she is singing an off-key version of Marilyn's ''Old Black Magic''.
Though Elizabeth (or ''Betsy'' as friends call her) was mostly popular for playing Lou-Ann she also did one guest star role in the color seasons of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW in the episode ''Big Brother'' as a temporary love interest for Howard Sprague (played by Jack Dodson). She has one more Mayberry connection in that she lent her distinct voice to an animated character, Lady Fish, the love interest of Henry Limpet played by Don Knotts in his first starring role in a major motion picture THE INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET (1964).
She was also known for playing April, Festus's girlfriend on GUNSMOKE. She did many other television series from the late 1950s to the 1960s and 1970s and played in movies as well. She was most notably seen in Francis Ford Coppola's THE CONVERSATION (1974), as Meredith who seduces Gene Hackman's Harry Caul. She has been retired from acting since 1989 but she has the distinction of being only one of two main cast members still alive from GOMER PYLE USMC (the other cast member being Ronnie Schell, who played Gomer's buddy Duke Slater).
Fans can still send Ms. MacRae cards or fan mail to this address:

Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Francine Langstrom
Zoologist, Dr. Francine Langstrom, worked alongside her husband, Kirk Langstrom, and her father, Professor March, at the Gotham Zoo. The three of them were convinced that imbuing humans with the genetic material of bats was essential for ensuring mankind longterm survival. Although Francine was disabused of this notion when her husband was transformed into the creature known as Man-Bat.
While Francine and Kirk focused their work in other directions, Francine’s father secretly continued to labor on a means of altering the human genome to incorporate features from bats. His work resulted in an accident where Francine was unknowingly exposed to the Man-Bat serum. This caused her to periodically transform into a bat-like creature. Unlike her husband, Francine had no memory of the transformations. At first she believed that the return of the Man-Bat was her husband and, in a fit of anger, she left Kirk and boarded a flight out of town.
Francine transformed in the Man-Bat (or She-Bat) as the plane took off, opening the emergency exit and flying off into the night. The airplane was able to make an emergency landing and Batman intercepted the She-Bat near the Gotham bridge. Following a struggle, Batman was able to administer as antidote causing Francine to transform back into her human state.
Francine and Kirk reconciled and Professor March was finally convinced to abandon his pursuit of creating man/bat hybrids.
Actress Meredith MacRae provided the voice for Francine Langstrom with the character first appearing in the second episode of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series, ‘On Leather Wings.’

Albert Gordon MacRae (March 12, 1921 – January 24, 1986)
He was best known for his appearances in the film versions of two Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, Oklahoma! (1955) and Carousel (1956), and playing Bill Sherman in On Moonlight Bay (1951) and By The Light of the Silvery Moon (1953). He made his Broadway debut in 1942, acquiring his first recording contract soon afterwards. Many of his hit recordings were made with Jo Stafford. In 1948, he appeared in his first film, The Big Punch, a drama about boxing. He soon began an on-screen partnership with Doris Day and appeared with her in several films. In 1950, he starred with Doris Day in Tea for Two (a reworking of No, No, Nanette), then in 1951, he starred again with Day in On Moonlight Bay, followed by the 1953 sequel By the Light of the Silvery Moon. That same year, he also starred opposite Kathryn Grayson in the third film version of The Desert Song. This was followed by leading roles in two major films of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, Oklahoma! (1955) and Carousel (1956), both films opposite Shirley Jones. MacRae appeared frequently on television, on such programs as The Martha Raye Show and The Ford Show, Starring Tennessee Ernie Ford, both on NBC. During Christmas 1958, MacRae and Ford performed the Christmas hymn "O Holy Night". Earlier in 1958, MacRae guest-starred on the short-lived NBC variety series, The Polly Bergen Show. Thereafter, MacRae appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Dinah Shore Chevy Show, The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom, and The Bell Telephone Hour.
He continued his musical stage career, often performing with his wife, as in a 1964 production of Bells Are Ringing, also performing as Sky Masterson in the popular musical Guys and Dolls, with his wife playing the role of Miss Adeleide, reprising her Broadway role. He was married to Sheila MacRae from 1941 until 1967; the couple were the parents of four children: actresses Heather and Meredith MacRae, and sons William Gordon MacRae and Robert Bruce MacRae. Two of the children, Meredith MacRae and Robert Bruce MacRae, predeceased their mother, Sheila. Gordon MacRae was married, secondly, to Elizabeth Lambert Schrafft on September 25, 1967, and fathered one daughter, Amanda Mercedes MacRae in 1968. MacRae suffered from cancer of the mouth and jaw, and ultimately died in 1986 of pneumonia. He is buried at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
