Character Summaries #1

Here’s the rundown on some of the characters I’ve come up with over the years. I’ll probably make more posts like this in the future, and some of these characters will eventually get separate posts of their own.

First up, we have Caroline MacDougal. Caroline is a character I came up with in August of 2014, and even RP’d as for a short period of time. She was a ghost from a primarily medieval setting and I usually portrayed her as being around 19.

Her father was a soldier from an allied kingdom, and he met her mother when his detachment was stationed near their village. He swore he’d come back and marry her when the war was over, but he never returned.

In life, Caroline had long brown hair, mid-tone skin, and hazel eyes. She was feisty and headstrong, and loved to play pretend and tell stories to the village children, who she would look after while their parents were busy farming or fishing or what have you. She lived in a small cottage on the edge of town with her mother, and when she wasn’t minding the children or doing chores, she liked to go for walks in the woods with her cat, Edgar, who accompanied her wherever she went.

She and Edgar had been out picking blackberries for her mother’s birthday when they died. The river had overrun its banks due to unseasonably heavy rain, and as Caroline carried Edgar and the berries across, she slipped on a rock and they were carried downstream. They both drowned and their bodies came to rest at the bottom of a lake that the river fed into, and new blackberry patch grew where her basket washed up on the shore. She and Edgar now haunt the lake, hoping that someone will come by so she’ll have someone to talk to.

Next, there’s Christobella. She doesn’t have quite as much to her, but I adore her nonetheless. I came up with her in the spring of 2016, I believe, and she’s sort of a Duckverse OC, but I could probably find a place for her in original settings too. She’s an anthropomorphic chinchilla.

Christobella is a novice sorceress. She’s pretty small, maybe 2′8″, and her thick fur often carries excess magical discharge like static electricity, which sometimes interferes with her spell casting. She’s a touch naive, and is also prone to temper tantrums and pouting when things don’t go her way. She has a bit of a sweet tooth.

Meredith is one of my most fleshed out characters. She actually had a whole supporting cast in a half-baked fantasy world of my own creation, but I’ll leave that for another time.

Captain Meredith Vervain, or “Miss Merri” to some, is essentially a pirate who primarily targets dishonest merchants and other pirates, and the occasional naval ship under the command of her country’s corrupt government. Her crew consists largely of rescued prisoners, former rebel soldiers who fought against the current dictator (more on that in another post), and random foundlings.

Meredith appears to be 35 or so, but she’s actually been alive for a few centuries. She was once the lover of one of the setting’s lesser gods (or maybe he was a powerful Fae, I never really decided). He was murdered by a jealous ex-lover, but before he died he was able to pass some of his power on to Meredith by giving her one of his eyes. Her abilities are subtle things such as her incredible longevity, her uncanny grace and agility, or the power to influence and manipulate the atmosphere of a room or situation.

Though she has sympathy for the plight of the mortal race she was once part of, her primary motive is vengeance. The old races (Fae or gods- once again, I never quite decided) are dying out, however, and those who still survive are notoriously hard to find.

Then there’s Viridian. She started out as baby’s first D&D character, a wood elf ranger, and she’s had a few different incarnations since then. She has nut brown skin and long, mossy green hair. I think she may have had purple eyes at one point, too, but I don’t quite remember. She does usually have a wolf as a companion, however.

She honestly didn’t have a whole lot of characterization outside of her class and race. I keep meaning to revisit her and give her a proper personality.

Finally, there’s Lily. She came after Viridian but before Meredith, and I distinctly remember first doodling her when I was supposed to be taking notes for my high school algebra class.

She was another ghost, this time in a Victorian setting, and her story was that her fiance was in trouble with some shifty loan sharks. She overheard their plan to murder him, and once she had an opportunity, she drank the wine that they were going to poison him with to a) expose the loan sharks and provide proof of their intent and b) give her fiance a chance to get the authorities. Perhaps not the smartest plan, but hey, I was a bored 15-year-old. Anyway, the loan sharks were arrested, her fiance grieved, life continued.

A few years later, Lily’s fiance married someone else and they had a daughter named Vanessa. Lily acted as a sort of supernatural protector, friend, and nanny for Vanessa, and loved her as the daughter that she never had. I think my plan was for Lily and Vanessa to go on cool adventures together or something? And Vanessa had a cat named Buttons. Because cats.

EVENT 021 - HOGSMEADE OLYMPICS 

With everything going on, local leaders and authorities decided that a community event to cheer everyone up and bring us all together. After much discussion, an event quite like the Olympics was put together.

Time to get your team spirit and competitive attitudes in check because there will be teams and there will be events and there will be a winner !! It’s important to remember that we’re all in this together and no matter how bad things seem to get, tomorrow is another day. As the late, great Albus Dumbledore said:

❝ Happiness can be found in even the darkest of times, but only to those who remember to turn on the light. ❞

This is not a time constrained event per se. All the events will take place throughout August and possibly into the first week of September. You will be allowed to continue and begin nonevent threads throughout but each activity/event should be acknowledged and incorporated into conversations, particularly when your character and their team are involved.

This is not an optional event. All characters will be taking part and have been split into teams (which you will find under the read more below). We encourage all muns to branch out and create new friendships/connections with each other through the team they’re in and the teams they’re playing against. A tournament board will be posted shortly, showing the first round of events/activities and we will be asking muns to vote in our OOC discord chat on the winners of each event sporadically throughout the month. There will also be a few extra awards such as team spirit, sportsmanship and more at an awards ceremony at the end of the month. 

Please use the tag #sdhqolympics1 for all threads that are meant for the teams taking part in events/activities. If it’s a closed thread for certain characters taking part, be sure to tag their blogs. Also if you want a specific plot where your character gets injured (minor injuries only) or helps the team win / causes them to lose, please run it past the main as soon as possible.
