Watching Inspector Koo helped me understand why the council of the Merciless Evil Devil From Hell megafandom has been rejecting Psychopath Diary as a part of their own for the last couple of years.

What the plots of The Merciless, Beyond Evil, The Devil Judge and Strangers From Hell have in common is the dynamic between their main characters. It’s required one character that represents corruption (Jaeho, Dongsik, Yohan and Moonjo) and one character that has the potential to be corrupted or is already corrupted and ignorant to/in denial about it (Hyunsoo, Joowon, Gaon and Jongwoo).

All of them begin on opposite sides of their counterparts (even in the circumstance where they work on the same team, they have their own agendas, and distrust and/or disagreements are ever present). Eventually, however, the ones with potential to be corrupted will choose to be on the side of the characters that represent corruption, whether definitely or temporarily (in Hyunsoo’s tragic case). This transition to the side of their counterparts happens after they comprehend and sympathize with their motivations.

The forementioned transition never happens in Psychopath Diary. The main character (Dongsik) was forced to learn about and analyze his counterpart (Inwoo)’s inner thoughts and motivations in order to understand himself, during the time Dongsik mistakenly believed he was Inwoo and only had his diary to guide him. Despite being initially motivated by a misunderstanding, his dedication brought results: he understands Inwoo, profoundly. But—much like the protagonist of Inspector Koo with her counterpart—he doesn’t agree with him. When he tried to wear Inwoo’s skin, his instinct rejected it. He had to modify it to something that made sense to him, something he could consent to. The same energy, but opposite moral codes.

Dongsik, with his sense of identity intact, wouldn’t be swayed by Inwoo’s cause. He couldn’t be persuaded, because he wasn't tempted. A characteristic he lacked in comparison to the characters from the MEDFH who gave in to it. Who accepted it because their energies matched their counterparts’; not for being opposites, but for being similar. The same moral code, or at least one flexible enough to accept theirs and stand tall by their side.

Listen, when I say I love watching Kdramas I mean I love ONLY the very specific genre of ‘homoerotic antagonism’ that the Merciless Evil Devil from Hell fandom represents. Otherwise I wouldn’t, for the life of me, push through hours of extremely heteronormative content by choice.

I now watched The Merciless from the Dark Dilf cinematic universe and I’m lowkey obsessed but there’s only one full length English fic on Ao3 to console me (which I’m grateful cause it’s better than none 😭) but I so wished they had a happy ending considering.

When did I create this blog? Around September last year (I guess). That was when I was searching for Killer and Healer script/novel translated in English, and since I found excellent reviews instead, I ended up creating this blog 'cause I too wanted to write.

Do I get asks? Yes, sometimes. Why did I choose my URL? Evil (because I want to always be reminded about Beyond Evil) and Moonlight (because the word reminds me of Jiang Yue Lou and Chen Yu Zhi from Killer and Healer).

Dream trip: I'll start with the local tourist destinations here in the Philippines, apart from my own, another Southeast Asian country would be Thailand (just because I'm always mistaken as Thai, lol) then I would love to travel around some parts of East Asia particularly Japan and Taiwan, and the most interesting part is visiting Europe (UK, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands — Amsterdam (the Anne Frank House), Finland, Greece, and Spain (because one of my best friends is currently living there), actually I want to visit the whole Europe. XD), also Algeria, Morocco, and New York City (at the public library where Ash died peacefully reading Eiji's letter 😭, like I'll be having a Bananafish adventure).

Hello~~~ I recently watched Beyond Evil and love it so much~ for both the main leads and the plot. Then I read some of the excerpts of the writer's and director's intention and just even more in love. Also, thank you for all the contribution to the fandom <3 Makes my day. I have no idea why I hadn't heard of Beyond Evil and even the Merciless until the Devil Judge. Usually, I hear about diff Kdramas from this and that (don't particularly follow anything.) Better late than never, I guess. I really liked SHK here but for the first time I am more interested in the younger guy T-T Have you read the script book translation? I feel like I should find out where Koreans write fanfics so that I can continue with my love for the show. Sorry for this unprompted rambling and have a nice day!

Hi! I think that's a common experience for most of the "Merciless Evil Devil from Hell" megafandom - one show/movie leads to the others. I watched Beyond Evil first and then went through everything else. (The Devil Judge has such an amazingly beautiful cast...!) Shin Hakyun is my favorite (the smile lines 🥲), but Yeo Jingoo is ridiculously pretty and talented, too, so I'm right there with you.

I finally ordered the script books the other day, so excited to go through them. The Korean fanbase is more active on Twitter and a lot of fics are posted to Postype. 🙂 Hope our little fandom keeps its momentum!

Oh man!

I'm a mess, for the second time this week (the first one being with the end of Light on Me, which btw was the show that got me into The Devil Judge and the Merciless Evil Devil from Hell megafandom. "How" you might ask, but I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER)

Gotta say, I'm pretty happy with it, considering I was expecting a very sad ending with at least one of them d wording.

But no, our lawful family is alive, with a future ahead of them and knowing where and how to find/visit one another.

Now I just need that perfect fic that starts right after the final scene, with GaOn running after YoHan (cause you can't tell me that wasn't the look of a man that was getting ready to do JUST THAT. I said what I said) that will be kinda surprised by it, but will open his arms with his beautiful and sincere smile, with some tears in his eyes, and catch our baby GaOn in another long looooong hug. And then they will talk, like go somewhere and actually talk, just the two of them without those horrible people getting in the way of their moments. And they will figure out where they go from there.

Haven't been to AO3 to check yet, but if you guys have any recommendations please let me know!

There is only one factor that could explain the exclusion of Psychopath Diary from the Merciless Evil Devil From Hell megafandom. It took me some time to figure it out, but now that I did, I'd like to ask the council to reconsider its decision by addressing an official complaint.

I've analyzed the case, and taking into consideration that the characters fit most criteria, it seems considerably unfair to shut them out for the single reason of the age gap being too small.

What is 'merciless evil devil from hell?'

Hello~

To keep it short, the Merciless Evil Devil From Hell is what we call a “megafandom”. It's actually the combination of the fandoms of the movie The Merciless and the dramas Beyond Evil, The Devil Judge and Strangers From Hell.

It all started with this post by @miniminaa, and @eremin0109 came up with the idea of giving the combined fandoms a name, which is what we've been calling it since then.

If you'd like to know more about it, the megafandom has its own tag, and it's fun to look around if you have the time. There is this specific post in which @chocolate4myships presents the characters from all the four medias. It's a good place to start if you don't know all of them (maybe it even makes you interested in doing so! I highly recommend all the dramas and the movie).

Well, that's basically it. If you're confused about why it exists, just know it's all about the dynamic between the main characters, that is similar among the pairs :)
