He began his career as a performer after serving in the navy during world war 2 but intended to be an actor. He started doing standup due to lack of acting work, and quickly developed his signature #insultcomedy routine when he began responding to #hecklers. He became friends with #franksinatra who was instrumental in building Rickles fame and success in #lasvegas. He appeared many times on #Johnny Carson and #davidletterman's shows and was a regular on #deanmartin's #celebrityroast in the #70s #mrwarmth #merchantofvenom #hockeypuck
