Glenn Alan Watt, BJU Class of 1956.
Glenn Alan Watt, Sr. was born on Christmas Day in Minden Nebraska to Glenn T. and Laura E. Watt. Coincidentally, Minden is known as the Christmas City and surely Glenn was a beautiful gift to his parents on that day. Sometime after, his parents moved to North Platte where Glenn went to school and graduated from North Platte High School in 1951. He then went to Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, and Trinity School in Chicago studying in Theology and graduated with a BA, MA & BD.
In 1954, he met the love of his life, Sharron Most, courted her for four years, and they were married June 1, 1958 in North Platte. They honeymooned in Estes Park and established a lifetime of anniversaries there for the next 65 years.
In 1959, they welcomed their first child Sherryl. Shortly after, Glenn and Sharron moved to Dacoma, Oklahoma to pastor a church that met in a vacant store building. Glenn orchestrated plans for a new church building and saw it to fruition. In 1961 they moved back to North Platte and welcomed their second child, Glenn Jr. Glenn decided to join the Methodist conference as pastor of several churches in Nebraska, where he could then go to St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City during the week and be home on the weekends. That’s where he met his best and longtime friend, Al Trucano who pastored churches in Nebraska. Glenn held family and friends close to his heart.
After serving and moving many times, Glenn and his family established their home in Longmont, Colorado in 1973. At first, he worked as an Assistant Manager for Ideal Markets. He later worked for several coal companies in Denver as a Draftsman, including Northern Coal Company and Dorchester Coal Company. It was there he met Harold Smolnikar, who became another best and longtime friend. How blessed are we to have friends. Glenn then worked as Security Guard for American Patrol & Guard, and for the Daily Times Call paper until he retired in 1997. Speaking of best friends, Glenn also had many favorite pets over the years with Trapper and Shiloh, leaving an impression on his heart. One of his passions was the koi pond he built in their Longmont home backyard. At one time, they had as many as 30 koi and goldfish, and the last one surviving, Glenn fondly called LG, for Lonesome George.
While Sharron was Glenn’s first love, he had a labor of love in his 1974 Mercedes 450 SLC. He found joy in working on his car as well as helping Glenn Jr on many other automotive projects. He enjoyed challenging construction projects around the house and helped out a friend’s business some summers with other projects. Glenn was also a self proclaimed watercolor and oil painting artist capturing nature and wildlife. He found solstice in the outdoors.
Glenn was a grandfather of 9, and great grandfather of 17. He loved each and everyone dearly and we can only wish we could each have the love in our heart that he had for them. In retirement, Glenn and Sharron enjoyed their daily adventure that included lunch, a visit to the Longmont Airport, then onto Union Reservoir, with the occasional stop at Baskin-Robbins with good friends. Glenn loved to watch the planes and would look up the tail numbers of each and find out where they were from…in a way, it took him to places he never traveled to. At Union Reservoir, he found peace in drifting on the water from the car and watching people and wildlife…he loved to watch the birds land like planes on the water.
On May 29th, Glenn passed peacefully in his home and was called to his new home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was 91 when he crossed over peacefully surrounded by family. He was a dedicated husband to Sharron for 65 years, devoted father, grandfather, and friend to many. Glenn will be missed and may his memories live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Surviving are his wife, Sharron Watt, daughter Sherryl Lynne (husband Bryan) Peterson, son Glenn Alan Jr. (wife Sandy) Watt. Survivors also include: Grandson Brandon and Granddaughter, Liane Watt, Children: Ryleigh, Taylor, Tucker, & Jaxson Watt; Grandson, Clayton (Heather) Watt, Children: Clarissa, Cheyenne, Chase, & Camden Watt; Grandson, Ryan Peterson; Granddaughter, Rachel Peterson, Children: Frances Arnette; Granddaughter, Erica (Danny) Pentrack, Children: Avalie and Rosalyn Pentrack; Granddaughter, Jessie Peterson, Child: Ruth Guterson; Grandson, Adam (Samantha) Dean, Children: Emmilee, Alanna & Nova Dean; Grandson, MaKaylon (Tiffany) Watt, Children: Kane & Sophia Watt. Also surviving, sister-in-law, Glenda (Lee) Burnham, sister-in-law, Shirley, and a host of friends.
