Personal Luca Balsa Headcanons
honestly, I am writing this from scratch without any proper editing so I hope you don't mind. I'm new to the fandom so I don't know the "usual" hcs for luca but he lives rent free in my head so here are some that I personally think about way more often than not...
his speech!! he's canonically from a renowned family and he tends to speak in a noble or polite fashion, but I imagine he picked up some rough language from his time in prison. (this is how I explain my view of him being a gremlin okay)
adding to the first point, I love to think that he's more composed when talking to people but he speaks more harshly when he's focused on either working or being in a match. (ie cursing and stuff)
which makes for a very interesting vocabulary, I think! he can curse like a sailor and then say words like "yes, the juxtaposition of this and this... this is very inconsequential... mhm..." and other big words that op(me) can't think of rn
despite that, I think he's a kind person, and maybe a little playful if he's closer to other people. he can be a bit of a tease but he usually never goes over the line.
since he canonically has memory issues, I want to imagine he likes writing things down. his thoughts, ideas, information on other people, notes for his future self in case he forgets, etc. when he doesn't write something down, there's a high chance he'll forget about it.
(cw: eating disorder) THIS IS CANON HE FIXATES OVER WHAT HE LIKES. but yes I imagine he might forget the basic necessities when he's working, like eating. if there's no one to remind him, he might go for a day without eating.
he definitely rambles, especially when it comes to his inventions. this can Not be untrue. he will talk about his ideas, his creations, and etc until you get bored. he is aware that he tends to do this though so sometimes he tries to ask, and other times he slips into it without thinking.
he's physically inept and will probably get tired quickly from running across the map, but that doesn't mean he's completely incapable. I imagine that, if it was a competition, he would completely ignore his exhaustion and let determination and pure willpower carry him to the finish line.
I'm going to stop there for now. I love this man to bits and it's wayyyy too obvious that I project onto him more often than not. 🫶🫶

Sorry, I hadn’t meant to word it that way, Auditorium! Of course I never meant to imply you’re like her, but I am curious now. Since you are a human in the end, did you always live in the Metropolis? Had it always been under EA’s rule? And what was life like prior of not?

Hugs full of static (2.6k)
(in which Luca and Alva reconcile. In a way.)
Alva Lorenz’s death had, ultimately, been caused by a misunderstanding.
The issue was with the manuscripts Alva kept in his room. Those manuscripts had belonged to his former colleague, Herman Balsa.
They had both worked on a perpetual motion machine for quite some time before arguments arose on whether they should continue.
The arguments lasted until Herman's death. A freak accident, an explosion, had killed him. So Alva locked up the machine for years, wanting to stop any other lives being taken by its grasp.
The one time he decided to reveal it again, he found himself with an apprentice. Luca Balsa.
The tabloids that liked to deface his former friend said Luca was a runaway. So Alva took him in.
And even though Alva knew Luca was his colleague's son, for all those years he never once thought to tell Luca about Herman's manuscripts.
Not even when Luca started acting strange.
Alva had foolishly assumed the worst at Luca's shiftiness. Watching him work on the invention alone, being cold and distant to his mentor, the seeds of doubt and hatred were planted in Alva's mind.
Just like how they must have been planted in Luca's.
Oh, how stupid they both were.
There was an argument, the day of Alva's death. Both were convinced the other was stealing, and neither told the other why. It had ended when Luca had stormed out of the room to try and calm down away from him.
Alva had found him again, in the middle of the night. He was in the workshop with their machine, alone, mumbling to himself.
It really did look like he was stealing, in that moment before Alva made his presence known.
If only Alva hadn't startled him. If only he hadn't moved so fast without paying attention. If only he'd realised what Luca had been doing.
But before he could understand, Luca had wheeled around, electrical equipment in hand…
And killed him.
It was, surprisingly to Alva, not a permanent death he found himself in. Some strange twisted fate had led a deity to his doorstep, and soon he was mostly alive again, though not in the same way he was before.
But still he thought time and time again about the incident that had caused him to leave life for what felt like only a fleeting moment but was likely much longer.
He'd always wondered how Luca was doing since the accident, assuming he was alive at all. He'd hoped he was doing well, but could never be sure.
That was until the day he got his answer, when the letter inviting him to a strange manor arrived, promising that it would be beneficial to his research. Luca was mentioned by name. It appeared he'd found his apprentice.
-----
While Alva had been missing from this life, Luca Balsa had been in prison. He'd been arrested the morning after the accident that killed his mentor.
Or maybe that attack had been intentional. He wasn't certain anymore.
Life in prison was much harsher than he'd ever heard about before being arrested. Monotonous tasks that went round and round and round again, deafening silence broken only by the rattling of chains and the angry screaming of guards, and the many tools those guards had to torment him all grated at his brain.
He wasn't sure when he started forgetting things. Some things were easy to realise he'd forgotten, like mealtimes and when to sleep.
But other things were chipped away, little by little, soldiered on in blissful ignorance before catching one problem and realising how many more he had.
Some days he couldn't remember his own name. Or where he was. Or what he was doing. And even as that scared him, what scared him more was the bits he could never remember again.
There was an invention. He loved it. He knew he'd never come to love anything else. But he couldn't remember how it worked. Or what it was, exactly. Or… what it did at all.
Just like the now useless machine, the cogs in his brain spin with no purpose, with no end goal. But he tries to remember what happened, needs to remember what happened, before it slips away like sand.
But still, he thinks he can piece together what happened when he killed his own mentor.
If every guard he asks tells him he murdered Alva in cold blood, then that must simply be what he did. There's no other explanation.
Through a mind addled with guilt, a simple misunderstanding that led to a fatal set of dominoes could become much more sinister.
Alva's death must have been a crime of passion. He must have slammed the equipment into Alva for some kind of twisted revenge. After all, what idiot would just throw around high voltages like that? Even if he was so very tired that night.
Maybe those manuscripts weren't his father's at all. The name “Herman Zeeman” was used in every one of them, after all. Was the argument over nothing? Even though he had seen that name on the manuscripts inside his childhood home so many times.
Surely they must have hated each other when Alva was alive. Such a lovely man didn't deserve an apprentice as stupid and impulsive as he is. No wonder Alva’s life ended in a huge fight. He must have always been like this, there's no other explanation. Even though every tabloid around called them a genius duo.
The guilt tore into him. It's all his fault. It's always been his fault, he's sure of it.
But despite his crimes, he was acquitted one day. Some mysterious benefactor had smiled upon him, and had given him a deal.
An envelope invited him to a manor, saying that it'd give him the opportunity to continue work on the machine he and Alva were once famous for. With any funds given away to Alva's grieving wife years ago, and a broken brain that couldn't get anyone else to help him, he took it.
----
Alva meets lots of people at Oletus Manor. As it turns out, all of the people inside are trapped here for the foreseeable future and far beyond. That letter was a trap. What a joy.
But Alva doesn't particularly care right now. What he cares about much more is Luca.
The manor is divided into sections, which contain “the survivors” and “the hunters”. Thankfully, you are allowed to mingle.
It took less time than Alva anticipated it would to find Luca.
Alva didn't recognise him at first. The man was scrawny and pale and bruised, with dark shadows under at least one of his eyes. The space around the other was injured so badly it was hard to tell.
There was a network of scars across his face, too, that matched Alva's own burns. The current that took his life hadn't spared Luca, then.
Alva is suddenly aware of how much he himself has changed, as Luca clearly doesn't recognise him anymore. He's babbling on with that same grin that he's always had. Alva chuckles. Some things never change, after everything.
It's only then that Luca asks his name. Even when he hears Alva's voice, he doesn't seem to remember it at all. Alva thinks a little. He badly wants to reconcile, to reunite with Luca again, but he hesitates.
It might be best to wait a while and see what Luca's reaction might be to Alva's return, rather than suddenly giving him the knowledge that the man he once killed was now very much alive in front of him.
So Alva calls himself “The Hermit”. He wasn't the only one here to simply go by a title, so he decides it's fine. Luca seems to decide it's fine too. And so, for now, they are friends.
---
Alva was allowed into Luca's room after a while. It looks surprisingly close to how it did before everything happened.
Messy bed, desk full of half-made gadgets, formulas and sketches drawn madly on notebooks scattered around, it's the perfect home for an inventor, even if it's very disorganised. Curious, Alva looks closer at some notes. They worry him a little.
Luca's handwriting has always been nearly unreadable, but what Alva can make out doesn't make much sense. Words are written over each other, and scribbled drawings seem to be jotted down hastily, nearly incomprehensibly. This looks… weird. Especially compared to what he remembers.
Luca's nervous laughter informs Alva that disapproval must have come through on his face.
“Ah, don't worry about those- I just need to get things down before I forget, is all. I-i have other notes somewhere, I swear!!-”
Alva is silent for a moment. But he has an idea.
“Do you need some guidance on all of this? But it has a price.”
“What kind of price?” Luca asks. Alva can see a protective glint in his eye. Alva knows exactly what that means. Alva's about to say that he would never dream of stealing anything, before coming back to his senses and realising that Luca likely wouldn't trust that.
“Nothing much at all, I would just like you to answer my questions. I like listening to you talk, and I'm… curious about your past.” Alva tells himself this is for information. To find out what Luca thinks happened before his death. To find out what happened after. But none of it is necessarily a lie.
He does truly just want to hear Luca chatter about anything he wants to. To pretend that accident never happened, and that everything is okay. To have Luca back.
But he can never have that. He knows.
So he asks questions.
---
Luca doesn't know why it's so easy to talk to The Hermit. As most hunters are, they're much more intimidating than the average person.
But there's something about them that slots into some groove in his brain and makes him babble senselessly to them like he's known them for years.
Is it the way their voice feels? The way they speak? The way they sit and listen so patiently? The way they look at him? The way they phrase things? The way they tell him that he's okay to not tell them things if he doesn't want to, even though he always does it anyway?
Maybe it's all of those and more. They feel like a father, somehow. Luca had always hated his father, but the feeling is nice. It's soothing to talk to this stranger.
It's still weird to him, though. because the things they ask are personal and scary to think about. And yet he can't help but talk on autopilot.
So over weeks of gentle prodding, Luca slowly tells them everything.
He's asked about prison. How he never knew what time it was, how it was always too quiet or loud, how they'd wake him up with electric shocks, how he did the same thing from morning to night to morning, how they got mad at him for every little thing and they hit him and yelled and jeered and—
Luca's tirade comes to a screeching halt when he glances up to see the Hermit looking towards him with a determined, stormy-eyed anger. Seemingly in shock, they apologise profusely, saying that they were merely lost in thought.
They tell Luca that he shouldn't have ever been treated like that. It's a nice thought, really, but he's a murderer. Murderers go to prison.
Another day, he's asked about what his life before was like. His memory is spotty, but he has a go at it.
He brings up Alva the most out of everything he says. Alva, the shining genius. Alva, the kind mentor despite almost certainly disliking him. Alva, who was his father when his real father wasn't there for him.
Alva… who was there until everything fell apart. Luca doesn't elaborate that day.
The Hermit is intrigued. Apparently they'd never heard of Alva being that kind. Or fatherly. Luca says that The Hermit reminds him of Alva too. But less scary.
“Less scary? How come?”
“Well, it's… I don't need to be popular like you, but I needed to be popular like him. You know?”
“I understand. That must have been hard for you.”
It was, but Luca doesn't want to admit it. It was his own fault for being stupid.
A few days after, The Hermit asks about the machine. Not for blueprints, or anything like that. They're not looking to steal. They just want to know what it is he's working on.
Luca doesn't want to say that he doesn't know what he's doing. Because he does! He just needs time.
That's what he desperately wants to believe. That his memories aren't slipping away like sand every time he tries to think of it. That he knows what the machine is. That he knows what to do in any way. That he knows anything at all.
He doesn't know at what point he started crying, but The Hermit has their arms around him. The hug is loose, but comforting nonetheless. He finds himself slipping up when apologising. He calls them Alva.
Do they really remind him of Alva that much? Luca only had a quiet feeling before, but now…
It's nice, at least. He can pretend.
---
The Hermit's biggest question comes with finality. If Luca can tell him exactly what happened on the night of Alva's death, they won't ask any more questions.
They understand it's scary, and they'll help him work through it. But they need to know. Luca's silent for a moment.
Luca, despite knowing that this can't be a good idea, talks anyway.
Start slow. Repeat what you've already said. Stall for time to get your brain in gear. Everything was okay. Then the problem happened.
The manuscripts. You thought they were your father's. They probably weren't. [They definitely were.]
The argument. You were too harsh. Hothead. You went to the invention to calm down. [You did other things before that. Did you forget?]
The incident. You were angry. You hit him. He's dead. You killed him. [You were scared. Not angry. You didn't mean to hit me with it.]
It was an accident. I swear it was an accident. [That's-] n-no. NO. [What-?] It wasn't an accident at all, was it? [I- Luca?] It couldn't have been. I'm sorry. [Luca??] God, I'm so sorry— [Can you hear me? Luca??]
He cries like the stupid man he is.
He doesn't realise that he's crumpled to the floor until arms are around him. Then he's gasping for air, trying to stay above water in a murky ocean of memories.
He apologises. Again. And again. For Alva. To Alva. He hears the other man's voice echo through his head.
“I'm here. It's me. It's okay. It's okay. We're okay.”
…Oh. That's why their voice was familiar.
And all at once, he understands.
He bawls harder.
Fighting to stay above the tide is a losing battle. And so he slips under, and his brain is whisked away to black.
---
Alva doesn't let go of Luca after he passes out. He promises to himself that he'll get Luca a gift when he wakes up. After all, that's the least Luca deserves after everything he had to say.
Saying that Alva feels guilty is an understatement. He feels sick. Luca's retelling wasn't right at all, and it bugs him. Luca can't be remembering what happened correctly.
But explaining comes later. Right now, Alva is picking Luca up to bury him under the mismatched blankets of the bed. He deserves a rest after tonight.
Alva can only hope that Luca won't have to dream about it.

This is a gift for a friend! - Judgment is swift and final, its bite cold as steel, and at the end of a broken heart is death. Death alone. It has been so long in the cold you dream of warmth but never can quite recall it properly. Every day you work in this icy prison you do not know what you are in here for. Did you do something bad? You do not think you did anything bad to merit this, then again some people here seem to be tossed in here for even being slightly uncloth. The Warden is intimidating, his demeanor reflecting the harsh environment. Each day, you fear you might not make it. At some point, you will not wake up as the cold claims you. “Do you remember your crime?” You never thought the Warden would speak with you, “Do you know why you are here?”

Eli Clark X Reader!
This is an Eli Clark/Seer X Gender Neutral Reader! (No Plan, Just Write!)
Note: I don't remember if there is a fountain in front of The Oletus Manor, but there is one in my stores!
Tumblr media
You wake up in an unfamiliar place with no money of how you got here. In front of you is a lorg gate. You try to push them open, but they don't budge. You turn around to see that you woke up in front of some kind of mansion. You start walking toward a fountain. The closer you get to the fountain, you notice a man sitting on the edge of it. There is also an owl with him. "H-Hello sir, where am I?" You timidly ask & the owl hops closer to you. "The Oletus Manor and unfortunately, ones you're behind those gates, you can't leave this place." After he spoke, he whistled & the owl hoped back to him & hoped on his arm. He gets up & says: "We should head inside so you can meat the others. I'm Eli Clark, by the way!" "I'm Y/N." "Nice to meet you, Y/N!" "You too Eli!"
He opens the door for you & you're greeted by an overwhelming number of people. After a lot of them introduced themselves, someone said that it was almost time for dinner & they showed you to the dining room. You decide to sit next to Eli. "Does my owl not bother you?" He ask as you sat down. "I like most animals, so no." He doesn't say anything, but you see him smile at you. "h-hello, you mind if I join you? Names Matthias Czernin." "Yes, you can." Matthias sits next to you. A guy with mesy blond hair walks over to & says: "Hey there cutie~, can I sit with you?" A man with an old black eye pushes him away & says: "You are such a perfect, Florian! I'm going to sit across from you so he can't, ok? ... Oh, Names Luca Balsa!" "..ok, thanks Luca." "No problem!" Luca says with a smile. "Hi, Names Demi Bourbon! I'm gonna do the same as Luca, K!?" She says as she sits next to Luca. "K, thanks Demi!" "Don't mention it!" She quickly replies as she sit next to Luca. "Hi new kid, Names Tracy Reznik!" She says as she sit next to Luca.
You have a pleasant time talking with all five of them, especially Eli. After dinner, Eli shows you to your room. "Well, here we are." He says, stopping in front of your door. "I hope you are able to sleep well tonight." "Thank you and good night, Eli!" You close the door & thing to yourself: "I wonder what he looks like without the mask on." You crawl into bed & fell asleep relatively easily. The next day, you eat breakfast & lunch with the same people. After lunch, you went outside for some sun & fresh air & sat on a rock. You hear something land next to you. You turn to see Eli's owl. You pet the owl's haed. "Nine day, isn't it?" Eli ask as he sits on the ground next to you. "It is." You say, still petting the owl. You spend many weeks like this, but, deep down, you want to be closer to Eli.
One day, Luca & Tracy sew you walking alone, so they approached you & ask at the same time: "Do you have a crush on Eli!?" "What!? What makes you think that?" You ask them. "You try to talk with him more than anyone else!" Luca says. "And you pet his owl whenever you get the chance!" Tracy chimed in. ".. if I say yes, will you promise not to tell anyone or intervene?" "Of course!" They say that the same time. "Thank you guys!" A few days have passed after that conversation with them, & you decided to confess to Eli, but, for most of day, your nerves get the better of you. You are almost done eating dinner when you finally are ask Eli: "h-hey Eli, can we talk in private after dinner?" "Of course, Y/N!" He quickly replies & you look up to see Tracy & Luca giving you thumbs up. After you both finished eating, he ask: "So,.. where do you want to go?" "My room."
You have both spent time in either rooms, so you hoped that he couldn't tell just how nervous you are. He follows you into your room & closes the door. "So, what's on your mind Y/N?" He ask as his owl lands on your nightstand. You can't turn around to face him. "I-I h-have fellin for you Eli! I-I Love you!" The room fells quiet for a while before you hear him walk over to his owl & then you. ".. you mean it?" "Yes Eli, I do-" You say as you turn around to see him without his mask or hood on. His blue eyes staring into yours. "Can I kiss you?" You ask him. He pulls his hand on your chin, making you lift your head a little & he leans in to passionately kiss you. You rap your arms around his neck & lean into him. He eventually pulls away to give you air & you ask: "can you stay here with me tonight? can we cuddle?" "I'd love to, Y/N." You climb into your bed & Eli climbs in after you & Spoons you.
End!
My other Kin! It's only 9:18pm!

So I got this anon message on curious cat
Tumblr media
And I ended up writing an insane person essay on Luca, Alva, Herman, and class perceptions and economic considerations in roughly IDV’s canon era. It got too long for curious cat. I’m deeply embarrassed. You can read below the cut.
So to start with I agree with you anon but you’ve given me the opportunity to be so annoying about history and my Luca head canons so I want to take it.
I don’t think Luca grew up rich, despite growing up with an (likely) aristocratic last name and the *appearance* of nobility. From everything I can tell, Luca’s family was like upper middle class, or lower upper class; I suspect someone in Luca’s family (likely on his mothers side) had a background in some industry that allowed them to become very rich, or else were part of the hereditary landed gentry (no titles themselves, but related to a titled family). Herman also seems to come from this class, though the sense I get is that his family had a better reputation but less money than mama Balsa’s. With that distinction made, I think there’s a heavy implication in the lore that rather than provide appropriately for young Luca and Mama Balsa, Herman spent their money on his projects, neglecting not only the emotional aspects of being a father and a husband but also all financial responsibility. Luca grew up in high society, with his parents having connections, but much much less income for anything to do with them than would be expected of their class. Not only would this have made things difficult at home (paying servants wages would become hard in an era where nobility wasn’t expected to fend for themselves, as well as maintaining an residences or even potentially putting food on the table), this would have taken a huge toll on mama Balsa socially—appearance dictated *a lot* as I understand it in Victorian society, and any perception of shabbiness or debts would have slowly closed all social doors for mama Balsa.
And while you’re right, I think Mama Balsa would have had fewer options for recourse (women’s property rights were only reformed historically in a meaningful way for married women after the games would have already started), Luca would have had issues too. The hit to his reputation when word of his father spending all their money would have been difficult to over come even as a man, and would have shut the door for a lot of opportunities (if Herman is so reckless with money why should Luca be trusted? No one likes a scandal). The lack of funds would have made higher schooling difficult if not impossible, if for no reason then they’d be unable to pay for it. It’s no wonder that Luca ran away after his mother died and started using a different name from Herman’s—better to be broke but no one from no where with no baggage than to be broke and the known son of an scandalously irresponsible man.
And none of that’s even touching on the emotional neglect. Luca grew up without a father, and with the knowledge that he would never be as important to his father as his projects. Luca grew up watching doors close for him and his mother as his father spent and spent and spent their money on things he was never around to explain. Luca never got to know Herman, and only felt his absence as the horrible weight of choices he never had any say in. And then those choices killed his mother. No wonder Luca fucking hates him yknow?
And Herman never mentioned anything about his home or family life, so Alva didn’t know. He had no idea their research was being funded with the food from Herman’s sons mouth But Alva’s work for years is implied to be financially dependent on Herman (see Alva’s deductions, with Herman sending Alva funding; Alva, btw, is implied to be very newly middle class in his deductions, and this is already an insane person essay before I get into the class difference between Halva and power differential that would involve) and Herman made sure that Alva felt responsible for his ideas and for supporting Herman emotionally, and made sure he knew that he blamed Alva for his problems in the end. So Herman did just as much of a number on Alva in the exact opposite direction. It’s interesting, and a tragedy, and it’s fascinating how Herman is so directly the cause of both Alva and Luca’s problems, and how that set them up for their own tragedy going forward.

Just a really quick rules post! Covers what you can request, who I write for, etc!
General Rules:
I write sfw and nsfw! I'm also totally fine with writing both headcanons and full scenarios, depends on what you request and how I'm feeling abt writing at the moment! (Also open to alphabets + matchups!) Obviously don't request the basic shit (r4p3, 1nc3st, p3d0philia, weird fetishes and kinks, etc.), but other than that, go wild! I have nearly no triggers and the angstier the request the better. There's a reason I like writing Dazai.

Love Languages ~ ♪
ㅤ→ of some survivors !
cw none (mentions of food), gender neutral s/o
part 1 of what love language would they have <3
Tumblr media
➜ Luca Balsa (prisoner)
Acts of service! he loves being helpful to you, in any possible kind of way.
He’d help you out with your tasks, try to give solutions to your problems, or maybe even try to cook something for you… anything that would cheer you up!
➜ Aesop Carl (embalmer)
Quality time. Aesop is not exactly the extroverted one, and he is also pretty hard to read sometimes. Even though he can be really awkward when it comes to show his affection for you, he deeply values the time you spend together with him. He might not be that talkative most of the times, but just enjoying each other’s company is more than enough to make him happy!
➜ Victor Grantz (postman)
Words of affirmation. As it’s well known, Victor is not the best at talking out loud, he expresses himself trough his letters; which leads me to believe that he would be more than delighted to write you a lot of those!
He might send you a letter at a random time of the day, reassuring you how much he is still in love with you, or simple saying that you looked really cute this morning ;)

hello alva lorenz fan. in front of you is a test where you must share your interpretation of alva's feelings/treatment towards his past with the balsas in full nuance. you have 4 hours before the shark tank beneath you rises. if you mention anything about alva or luca feeling an inherently familial or romantic bond towards the other first and foremost you will be dunked into the tank. good luck

Actually u keep mentioning the stageplay and im curious like does it follow the game story (if te game has one???), is it like an og sidestory or smth. I mostly know about it from you ASDJKNDSVÑJ (and i know nothing of alva so i cant. Really say much👍)
not quite actually! they basically threw everyone (hunter and survivor) in the same room together and made everyone interact with each other if the plot needed it but they do re-enact how the game works - the people behind the stageplay wrote the story slightly different but the creators of the game permitted them to make their own spin of the story :) its actually really good! though what made me really love the stageplay is their "abridged" version of an episode (this goes for all eps) which is basically just a comedy. (if you saw me spam pics of stageplay, its when they all wear tracksuits) it just made everyone so much more lovable to me and gave me a fresh new opinion of characters i never really minded much :3
like you know this stageplay did shit to me when i started crushing on luca balsa/prisoner yeaheyeahsdsy OUUFHHG🪦🪦🪦🪦
BUT BASICALLY YES OG SIDESTORY. REALLY GOOD!!!!
