A Problem Shared - Part 1
Masterlist
Summary: When Marcus is struck down with a sudden but serious illness, you both bond over shared ills.
Pairings: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Like AO3, I choose not to list any warnings. If you are easily triggered by health problems then do not read.
Back pain.
That's how it started.
He'd felt the odd twinge here and there but passed it off as little more than an occupational hazard. He had spent years in the field, chasing down art thieves and the like so he was bound to suffer a little as he got older. Or so he'd let himself believe. There weren't really any symptoms in the beginning. You were a cancer survivor. 3 years in remission after having your gallbladder removed. You'd been lucky. They had removed the organ and given you a course of chemo.
You had lost your hair. Something your colleagues at the office had found particularly shocking at first as you'd chosen not to wear a wig or cover your bald head. You had chosen to be proud of your journey and 3 years on your hair had grown back and the cancer was nowhere to be seen.
Marcus had been the only person not to walk on eggshells around you, but if you were being honest. You don't think he'd ever noticed you.
He was a busy man, you didn't hold it against him but you'd held a candle for the man from the moment he'd arrived. Shame you were invisible to him.
The pain in his back got worse as the months went on. You started to notice that he was looking thinner. Wavering on his feet when he stood.
You'd been called into a department meeting the afternoon he learned the truth. A presentation was projected onto the smartboard in the meeting room you occupied, listing the ongoing investigations within the squad and Marcus asked each of his lead agents for updates. Everything had seemed normal.
"Sanders?" He enquired as his eyes trailed over to your boss "Where are we on the Monet fakes?"
"We've hit a dead end." The agent replied somberly "These guys are good. The paintings themselves are so believable that so far, we've found two in a British Museum, they had had them tested and everything."
"What are you working on currently to try and track them down?" He asked and your boss’ mouth fell open as he stumbled for an answer.
"We're working on a potential sting. Myself and agent Symes will pose as rich buyers of classic art. We've been making some noise on the dark web about tracking down the Monet suppliers, hopefully, we'll get a nibble." You answered for him and shivered when Marcus's eyes fixed on you.
"Good work," Pike answered and you gave him a small smile and nod as you tried, fiercely, to stop your face flushing.
"Smith." Marcus started again "What abouuuu-"
He didn't get to finish his sentence before he collapsed. The room all sat in shock as he hit the ground like a sack of rocks.
You were the one to leap to his side, rolling him into the recovery position as you gently tried to rouse him.
"Agent Pike?" You said softly "Pike can you hear me?" You asked and he nodded weakly.
He looked unwell. Very, unwell.
"Someone call an ambulance." You ordered, noting his skin burned hot "You're okay sir." You assured him "We're gonna get you some help."
"'M'mm fine." He mumbled but he was too exhausted to push any further.
"No, you're not." You stated firmly "Stay there for me okay?"
All he could do was nod.
The ambulance crew arrived a few minutes later and Marcus was swiftly loaded onto a gurney and whisked away. You wouldn't see him again for a week.
He had sent you a meeting invite that following Monday. Calling it nothing more than 'catch up' and you'd been shocked and confused by it. Never before had you received any correspondence from him?
You accepted, feeling nervous at the idea that you'd be sitting alone with him in his office for an hour but as you knocked on the glass door, you felt a flutter of excitement at the prospect also.
"Come in." He called you and you entered, closing the door behind you and taking a seat in the chair across from him "Thank you for coming." He said simply, giving you a small smile before adjusting himself in his seat. You couldn't help but notice the wince as he did so.
"What did you want to catch up about sir?" You asked, feeling those nerves return again.
"I wanted to start by thanking you for helping me the other day. You really took charge of the situation and I appreciate it."
"You're welcome." You said with a nod, smiling sweetly at him before waiting for him to continue.
"I wanted to discuss something that's... well it's a little personal." He said awkwardly and you nodded again "You had cancer a few years ago, yes?" He asked and you were shocked by his forwardness.
"Three years ago." You replied simply "Why do you ask?"
"I need this to remain between us." He started and you nodded "I just... I needed to ask some advice."
"Advice?" You queried and he gave you a small nod "Is someone you know sick?" You asked and he shook his head.
"I am." He announced and you gasped, your shock evident "They ran some tests, did some scans and it turns out I have cancer of the kidney."
"How advanced?" You asked and he sighed.
"So far it's not advanced."
"So they'll remove the kidney and you'll be okay." You said and he winced "Right?"
"I only have one Kidney." He replied and your eyes widened "Had to give my dad my other one when I was seventeen."
"So what treatment are they going to give you?" You asked and he scraped one of his large hands over his face before he answered.
"They want to try Radiotherapy." He started and you nodded "Said I'll also likely need a transplant but the waiting list for that's pretty long." He sighed "Said it could cause me to go infertile too." He finished, the final statement coming out as a sob.
"Shit Marcus, I'm so sorry." You said as you leaned forward to place your hand over his "I know how hard that is."
His brows drew together as he waited for you to elaborate and you felt your stomach twist as you willed yourself to tell your story.
"I was pretty lucky really." You started with a sigh "The cancer wasn't advanced but they still gave me a few chemo treatments. Lost all my hair and lost my ability to have kids."
"I-" Marcus wasn't sure what to say "I'm so sorry."
"So trust me when I say that I understand." You said sweetly "If you need someone to talk to or even a shoulder to cry on. Just call me."
"Thank you." He said, giving you a weak smile as he looked down at your hand on his "I never thought this would happen to me but I suppose that's how everyone feels."
"I didn't either Sir."
"Marcus." He interrupted and you gave him a bemused look "Please... Call me Marcus." He pleaded and you gave him a small smile.
"Okay then... Marcus." You said and his eyes flicked up to yours "You're not alone. I'm here."
"Thank you."
~
His first few treatments left him feeling tired but you were there to help him out when he was too tired to cook or even just do laundry. Loss of appetite was the first major symptom to rear its ugly head but he forced himself to eat.
He hated sitting in that machine alone three times a week. There was a poster of the Rockies on the wall opposite that the nurse told him was supposed to distract patients from what was happening to them but it did little to keep his mind off of it. The noise it made ground on his nerves, driving him to distraction each and every time he went there but by week three he had found his distraction.
You.
He thought about your smile. How you'd gone from little more than his colleague to his one and only supporter. He was angry at himself that he'd not seen you before that day he'd collapsed. How could he have overlooked you?
You were perfect.
As the third of his treatment came to an end the sickness became too hard to ignore. He didn't want to eat, drink or even breathe at points but he felt like he needed to do it for you. If not for himself. His clothes started to hang off of him rather than hug his form. Extra holes had to be punched into his belt which you tried to do without him noticing but he did.
He just chose not to speak about it.
He'd managed to keep a brave face on at the start and a part of you was proud of him for that but another wish he'd just let you in. You knew how important it was to talk. To accept your situation and not bottle the emotions up but decided to wait for him to be ready. You were sure he'd come to you when he was.
It wasn't too long till he did.
His sobs tore your attention from the washing up and your legs took you stumbling to his bedroom where he knelt on the bedroom floor with clumps of hair in his hands.
"I knew this was probably going to happen but..." He trailed off and you simply kneeled beside him and placed a comforting hand on his back "Not sure why I'm crying over hair."
"It's perfectly normal Marcus." You said as you rested your head on his shoulder "I locked myself in my apartment for a week. Grabbed my boyfriends clippers and shaved it all off."
That statement seemed to pull Marcus out of his anguish and he suddenly felt exceedingly guilty for the way he'd been thinking about you. How he'd been taking advantage of your kindness. You'd been with him almost every single day. rubbing his back when he was sick and holding him as he tried to catch his breath when he'd finished. You'd given up your time to care for him and he'd let you. How selfish he'd been.
"Shit I... I didn't know you had a boyfriend." He said as he tried to right himself "You probably want to get back to him."
"He left me shortly after I shaved my head." You sighed and Marcus looked at you in shock "Couldn't cope with it all I guess."
"That's bullshit." He snapped and you looked at him in surprise "I'd have stuck by you no matter what." He stated and you smiled sweetly at him.
"Well, that's nice to know," You replied as you gave him a bashful look, ears burning at his confession.
You had ended up shaving his head that evening and kissing away his tears as hair dropped onto his lap and the bathroom floor. When it was all done, you had cleaned it up and settled into his bed with him, holding him as he silently sobbed himself to sleep.
As you lay there cradling his thinning form in your arms your mind wandered back to when you'd gone through this. How you wished that you'd had someone to hold you like this. Sooth you as you cried yourself to sleep. You knew that he has a longer road ahead than you'd had. That he was going to probably get sicker before he even remotely started to feel better but you would be there.
No matter how tough it got.
He then worked remotely for a few weeks after losing his hair. Not quite ready to show everyone in the office what he was battling with.
You understood.
It was easier as a woman to hide the baldness with a headscarf or wig, but for a man. That was a harder pill to swallow and when he did finally go in, everyone knew. They stepped around him, whispered in corners and pitied him from afar. You wanted to scream at them. To scorn them for their silent judgement but you knew that wouldn't make Marcus feel better. So you held your tongue and kept your anger at bay.
"You can just continue to work from home buddy." Said Calum as he handed Marcus the coffee he'd gotten him "I'm sure you're embarrassed about the lack of hair, I know I would be."
"What?" Marcus snapped, his eyes catching sight of you as you approached with the take out lunch you'd gone to fetch.
"Look at Agent Perky." He started, taking a sip of his coffee "She lost all her hair and she just turned up bald, pretending not to care but she clearly did. Sure did look weird too." He snorted and Marcus felt his anger start to bubble over.
"You have no right to talk about her like that." He snapped, chest heaving as he glanced at you before returning his attention to Calum "She's the strongest woman I know."
"Oh come on." Calum scoffed "You're not falling for her are you?" He cackled, jumping around when you gasped at his question.
"Get out of my sight Sanders," Pike growled, his breathing becoming heavier.
He felt strange all of a sudden. His face didn't feel like it was his anymore and his blood rushed in his ears. You noticed his face pale and how he'd started to waver on his feet.
"Marcus?" You asked, placing the bag down on the table "You okay?"
"Yeah." He said, nodding weakly as he tried to keep himself on his feet.
"You don't look okay buddy," Calum stated and you wanted to slap him for how casually he spoke to his superior.
His sick, superior.
"I'm..." Marcus trailed off as his eyes rolled back into his skull and his body crumpled to the floor.
You were at his side in a heartbeat. Screaming at Calum to call an ambulance as you pulled Marcus' limp form into your arms. You tried not to sob as you held him, rocking him gently as you whispered words of comfort in his ear whilst you cradled his head.
"You're going to be okay Marcus." You promised him "Everything is going to be okay."
~
2 months later he was told one word... remission.
It was the best word one with cancer could ever hear. After months of treatment and many tears shed, there was no sign of his sickness.
You'd held him in the doctor's office as he sobbed in relief before the two of you shared a soft sweet kiss. It had taken both of you by surprise at the time but it had felt so right. Like no other reaction would have been right in that moment but you didn't discuss after and so, after many hours of overthinking, you'd put down to being caught in the moment. You decided to forget about it. It had obviously hadn't meant anything to him. Otherwise, he would have said something, right?
What you didn't know was that it had meant everything to him.
Another month passed and then two. Marcus started to gain back the weight and muscle he lost from his treatment and his hair had even started to grow again. He sobbed when he'd seen in sprouting from his scalp and you'd hugged him tightly. It was the first time in months you'd seen him excited about anything.
"How're you feeling today?" You asked as you cleared up the dishes from dinner.
"Little stronger." He answered and you smiled at him "Hate this short hair though." he grumbled as he scraped a hand over his prickly hair.
"I dunno." You giggled "Kinda like it." You said with a wink.
"Yeah?" He asked and you pulled your bottom lip between your teeth as you nodded shyly 'Mhmm."
He took a few ginger steps towards you, eyes sparkling as he continued to close the distance.
"That's good." He said finally before he found the confidence to cut the space completely.
His lips were soft and his hands warm as he pulled you close, making you melt against him. It was over pretty quickly but you didn't have to wait long before he pulled you into a slightly more biting kiss that left you breathless.
"Wow." You breathed when he pulled away and he grinned at you.
"Yeah." He whispered as he grinned at you "Wow."
"Want to continue this somewhere a little more comfortable." You suggested and his eyebrows shot up a little in surprise, your confidence waning as you started to worry you'd misread the situation "I mean... We don't- You don't- God I'm sorry... I just thought-"
You were interrupted by his lips on yours and you felt your worry dissolve instantly.
"I'd love to."
The rest of the evening was a cocktail of kisses and moans as clothes were removed and skin was explored. He made sure to show you how much he appreciated you. How he appreciated what you'd done for him and you let him. Not a care in the world was had by either of you.
~
It was just a cold he'd told you that morning as you'd left him in bed with a mug of tea on his side table and a kiss on his fevered brow. You knew cancer treatment weakened the immune system and meant that things like a cold hit you harder than they normally would.
He'd promised you he was okay but you'd not been able to shake the feeling that he was sicker than he was letting on.
His breathing had sounded off all morning. His skin burning much hotter than someone with a cold. As lunchtime came around you found yourself turning your key to Marcus' apartment and stepping inside, a paper bag with sandwiches tucked carefully under your arm.
"Marcus?" You called out "I brought lunch. Feed a fever and all." You continued as you dropped your keys in the bowl and made your way to the bedroom where you'd left him.
That's exactly where you found him.
"Hey, sleepyhead." You said sweetly as you made your way over to him "How are you feeling?" You asked as you perched on the edge of the bed.
He didn't answer.
"Marcus?" You asked again, turning your head so that you could look at his face on "Wake up sweetie." You said as you gently nudged him "Marcus?"
You turned on the lamp to get a clearer look at him and gasped at what you saw. His skin was pale, glistening with sweat but his lips had started to turn a startling shade of blue. You pulled your phone out faster than you could blink and dialled for an ambulance, your hands shaking uncontrollably.
You sobbed and begged for him to hold on as you waited for them. Not to leave you when you'd only just found each other. The paramedics arrived and wasted no time strapping a mask to his face and whisking him away, medical jargon being thrown around too quickly for you to follow and before you knew it you were in the waiting room of the hospital. Praying to a man you didn't believe in to spare the one you loved.
You were waiting around an hour before the doctor came you to tell you he had severe Pneumonia, the sickness taking a strong hold on him due to his non-existent immune system.
"What are his chances?" You asked and the doctor could do nothing more than shake his head.
"His immune system has been severely compromised from the radiotherapy." He started and you nodded numbly "It's harder to treat in patients like him. We'll do all we can for him but his chances aren't great." He continued and you sobbed "I think you need to prepare yourself."
Those were words you'd never wanted to hear. In the time you and Marcus had been together you'd fallen hard and fast for him. So when you were taken to him you couldn't keep yourself together any longer. You let your sorrow pour out of you and your tears stain your shirt as you slowly stepped to his side. You took his hand and brought it to your chest, sobbing softly now as you studied his prone form.
"If you can hear me Marcus I need you to listen to me." You sobbed as you stepped a little closer "I need you to fight this..." You paused, letting out a stuttering breath as readied yourself for what you were about to say "We need you to fight this."
You brought his hand to your lips and kissed his fingers before you placed it over your stomach. Your heart pounding in your throat as your gaze flitted between him and his hand.
"One more miracle for this little miracle." You said softly as you leaned down to place a soft kiss on his brow before resting your forehead against his.
"Please."

A Problem Shared - Part 5
Masterlist
Summary: When Marcus is struck down with a sudden but serious illness, you both bond over shared ills.
Pairings: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Like AO3, I choose not to list any warnings. If you are easily triggered by health problems then do not read. (Sorry this took so long... busy busy and shiz... hope this was worth the wait.)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
Bliss.
That's how you’d describe your life to anyone that asked you. Family life with Marcus was a dream come true for you.
Returning to work had been hard for you both but, you’d found a nanny who you both loved, and that made the hurt a little easier to bear.
His return to work was a gradual one, something you had been glad of. His team welcomed him back with a surprise party that had brought the man to tears and your heart had swelled at the support he received from every one of your colleagues.
Then at home, he was the perfect boyfriend. The perfect father. To put it in the simplest terms.
He was perfect.
“Someone’s ravenous this evening.” He chuckled as he fed Arabella, grinning at her as her eyes grew to this size of saucers and her legs kicked.
“Got an appetite… that’s for sure!” You chuckled as you emerged from the kitchen with two coffees in hand.
“I just can’t believe this is my life now.” He said, shaking his head a little in disbelief before locking eyes with you.
“Who’d have thought that out or something so terrible, would come something so wonderful.” You said, chuckling with him when Bella squeaked in agreement.
“Never thought I’d get this.” He confessed and your heart sank a little “After the divorce and Teresa I thought I was doomed to be alone… Then I got cancer and I thought, that’s it. I’m going to die never having the chance to be a father or-“
“You don’t need to dwell on that now.” You said, hushing him with your fingers on his lips “I love you and so does Bella! You finally have everything you deserve.”
His eyes widened at your confession and tears started to pool.
“You love me?” He asked, voice sounding so small and vulnerable that your heart ached at how insecure this man was.
“I do.” You replied, kissing him sweetly “I love you Marcus Pike.”
“I love you too.” He choked as he kissed you again before you both looked down at your daughter, soaking in the moment of bliss.
When Bella was finished eating. It was time for bath time and this was something you and Marcus treasured. Arabella lived for bath time and it was something the two of you loved to do together.
All these things that before, seemed like such a standard thing to do became so much more meaningful when you had a baby. Watching her smile and giggle as she gently washed her hair or how her legs would kick as she tried to splash the water. It was all so much more magical now.
“Reckon she’ll be a strong swimmer.” You chuckled as you watched your daughter wiggle in the water and Marcus nodded excitedly as he cooed over her.
“Definitely.” He said as he leaned over to kiss her brow.
“There was something I wanted to ask you about.” You said after a few blissful moments.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah… um… Well, Theresa’s in town next week.” You started and his brows rose in surprise at the sudden topic “She’s here for a deposition and she wanted to pop by. See you and the baby.”
“And you wanted to know if I’d be okay with that?” He asked and you nodded.
“I know that she hurt you… and that despite how everything is good now that some of that hurt remains but she was a real help to me when you were sick and I-“
“I hold no ill will against Theresa anymore.” He said plainly as he pulled Arabella out of the tub and into his arms “She was a support to you and that in my eyes is payment enough for what she did to me.”
“Seriously?”
“I moved too fast with her.” He said as he wrapped Bella in her towel “I know I was partly to blame for how things turned out between us but at the end of the day… We’re with the right people now and I think that’s the important thing to focus on.”
“That’s very mature of you Marcus.” You teased, kissing him sweetly as you watched him carefully dry and dress the daughter you shared.
“Well, I’m a daddy now.” He said softly as he grinned down at his baby “I need to be the bigger man.”
That’s how you found yourself three days later sitting at a table, smiling and laughing as Theresa rocked your infant daughter. Things had been a little tense at first. The last time Lisbon has seen Marcus, he was in a coma and facing almost certain death but now he was sitting there, wine in hand.
“She’s so perfect.” She gushes as Bella giggles in her arms “How are you both getting on? I understand you’ve gone back to work Marc?”
“Yeah.” He replied “It’s a, half in the office half from here, situation at the moment. Too long in the office and I get bone-tired.”
“He’s doing so well though.” You said sweetly, squeezing his hand affectionately “The team was over the moon to have him back.”
“All except Morris.” Marcus chuckled and you chortled at his statement.
“Yeah well, he was getting a little too comfy in your office I think.”
“The job was as good as his… let’s be honest.” Pike stated and your brows drew together “I was as good as dead.” He finished, shrugging and ignoring the sudden tension that settled over you all.
“How’s the wedding planning going?” You asked, desperate to change the subject and a smile spread across Theresa’s face.
“Good actually.” She replied, taking a sip of her wine before continuing “Janes’ actually really hands-on so he’s sorted most of it. We’ll be sending the invites out soon.” She squeaked and you chuckled at her excitement.
“How exciting.” You gushed and she beamed back at you.
“Yeah, I’m really excited.” She confessed and you gave her a soft smile “How about you twp?” She asked and your head jumped back “Think you’ll make an honest woman out of her soon Pike?”
“We’re in no rush.” He replied with a shrug “I mean, perhaps after my divorce and how things went with you it’s a sign that marriage isn’t for me.” He joked before grinning at his daughter who was gazing at him.
Your stomach sank at his statement but you didn’t let him see it. You’d be lying if you hadn’t pictured a wedding in your future. Arabella as your flower girl and just a select few there, sharing in your special day.
So to hear Marcus say that it’s unlikely you’ll ever get married. Well… that was a potential deal-breaker for you.
“Come on now.” Theresa pushed “You’re the most romantic guy I know.” She chuckled “You seriously telling me you don’t wanna get married to this lovely lady right here?”
“We don’t need to get married to prove we love each other… right babe?”
“Sure.” You replied plainly, suddenly in dire need to do something to distract you.
You decided that clearing up the dishes was your best and least suspicious bet. So you picked them up and carried them into the kitchen without a word.
Your distress at Pike’s statement had not escaped Lisbon and she watched you leave with a sympathetic expression. Glancing down at Arabella, she thought about what to say. She knew Marcus didn’t mean to be hurtful but that’s exactly what he’d done. He’d hurt you… and she couldn’t stand idly by.
“You’re a fool Pike.” She scoffed after a few moments, eyes drifting up to see his bemused expression.
“What?”
“That woman sat by your bedside for over half a year… watching you hang on the cusp of life and death. All the while, pregnant with your daughter who she then had to deliver alone!” She started, eyes burning into him “She’s been the one constant in your battle with your health and she deserves better than what you’re offering her. Have you ever asked her what she wants?”
“I…” He trailed off, unsure of how to respond to Theresa’s scolding.
“She’s given so much to you.”
“I know that.” He snapped back, careful to keep his voice down “I know that she has and I love her so much for it!…” He paused a moment, trying to find the words “I just don’t want to lose her!” He stated and it was Theresa’s turn to look confused “Every time I’ve taken then step… it’s gone up in smoke. My ex-wife… you!” Lisbon winced at that “I just… I don’t want to ruin things and it seems that marriage to me, ruins things.”
“Marcus-“
“It’s just better this way.” He interrupted “I love her and I’ll do all I can to show her that but I just don’t think I can risk this, us.”
Lisbon gave him a sympathetic smile, her eyes catching sight of you standing just outside the door. You’d heard his speech and your heart had broken for him. How his past failed relationships had scarred him so severely.
But you also weren’t sure you could give up your lifelong dream of getting married. It’s something you’ve wanted for as long as you could remember. You loved Marcus… with every fibre of your being, but could you stay with him knowing that you’d never get married. Never be his wife.
That, you weren’t sure of.
~
You tried to ignore the gnawing feeling inside of you that told you that this couldn’t continue. You didn’t want things to end… but you also couldn’t keep your doubts buried. You’d been nothing but selfless since this thing had started.
It was time to be selfish.
You were shaking as you sat at the kitchen table, awaiting Marcus’ return. It had taken a serious amount of strength to bring herself to pack those bags. One for you and one for Bella. You weren’t sure what you were going to say to him but you knew that when it came to it you would. So you sat there and you waited, hands clasped together in silent prayer.
Marcus walked through the door bang on six as he did every Friday. He greeted you with a smile and gave his baby girl a kiss on her brow as she slept. None the wiser to the conversation you were about to have with him.
“Everything okay?” He asked when he noticed you hadn’t moved from your seat.
“Can you sit a moment?” You asked and Marcus’ expression changed.
“Sure but why?” He asked, his confusion obvious “You’re freaking me out babe… what’s wrong?”
You were silent a few moments as you thought about how to start. You’d practised in front of the mirror all afternoon but now that you were here, what you’d pieced together didn’t seem to fit.
“I um… Well, I’ve been having some doubts.” You started, hands shaking as you tried to take a steadying breath.
“About?” He asked and you choked on a sob.
“Us.” You confessed and his shoulders dropped “I heard what you said about marriage and it makes me so sad that you feel that way but I want to get married, Marcus. I always have and despite how much I love you… I’m not willing to give that up.”
“Baby-“ You held your hand up to stop him, tears streaking down your cheeks as you speak.
“I saw a beautiful future for us, Marcus. Marriage… another baby perhaps, if were were lucky but now I know that the marriage part isn’t a possibility it’s all faded into nothingness.”
“We can still have a future sweetheart.” He sobbed but you shook your head.
“No, we can’t.” You replied simply “We might be okay at first but eventually I’ll end up resenting you for the fact I never got the one thing I always dreamed of.”
“What about Arabella?” He pushed “Is she not enough?”
“Don’t.” You warned, growing angry at him for using your daughter against you “I’m going to stay with a friend until I find an apartment. We’ll work out a schedule for you to see Bella.” You said as you pushed yourself to your feet and padded across the apartment to grab your things.
“Baby please.” Marcus pleaded “Don’t do this.”
You didn’t say anything.
There was nothing left to say. You simple gathered the bags you packed and grabbed Arabella, placing her in her pram before turning to look at the weeping man who stood across from you.
“I’ll be by in a few days to grab the rest of mine and Bella’s things.” You said plainly, heart breaking at the sight of Marcus sobbing “See you later Marcus.”
You turned and left, making it to the lift before he caught up with you.
“Please…” He pleaded as he stopped the doors closing with his hands “Please don’t leave me.”
“I’m sorry Marcus but this is for the best.” You said, standing your ground “I love you but I need to do this for myself…” You paused, eyes drifting down to Bella who was still sound asleep “I don’t want to hate you… and this is the only way that won’t happen.”
His arms dropped to his sides as his expression morphed to one you struggled to read. Shock? Hurt? Grief? Perhaps a mixture of all three but as the doors closed, they all morphed into one that was plain as day.
Regret.

It had been difficult building a regime that worked for you both. Things were understandably tense between you both but you had agreed that you needed to make it work for Arabella’s sake. So not he had her two nights a week and every other weekend. It wasn’t ideal but it worked and that was the main thing. You knew she needed time with him as much as she needed time with you so you had to swallow him much you hated all of this.
It was your decision to leave.
At work, things were a little harder. Marcus was, after all, your superior but never once did he hold that over you. People at work knew you’d broken up and yet the questions about where it had gone wrong never came. You assumed that was Pike’s doing. Telling people that things were over but not to ask. It was the sort of thing he would do and you appreciated it because despite your reasons for ending things. You missed him like crazy.
Marcus was suffering from his own internal struggle.
He wasn’t coping well with everything. He’d lost his appetite, couldn’t sleep and when he did, it was plagued with nightmares of you walking away from him. His only peace was when Bella was with him. Her smiles warming his frozen soul a while but when he handed her back. He was back to suffering in silence. He’d put on weight despite his lack of appetite and that in itself was making him miserable. His back ached, although not as bad as when he’d had cancer and he felt run down all the time.
He’d put it down to his circumstance.
His patience wore out though when he came down with a cold he couldn’t seem to shake. He started to wonder if this was his punishment for pushing you away. He’d certainly hated himself from the moment you’d walked out of his front door but this seemed like it was more fitting. Despite how rotten he felt though he still went to work. He ignored everyone's pleas for him to go home and rest, to see a doctor. He needed to work, it was all he had left and laying in bed was going to lead to dwelling and he did enough of that alone in the evenings.
That morning had started as normally as all the others. He made his coffee, read his emails then entered the briefing room to listen to his senior agents as they told him what was going on with their cases. You sat there beside your boss as you always did. Eyes never leaving the board across from you but Marcus couldn’t stop glancing at you. Wishing you’d look at him too.
When the dizziness had hit him, so had a sense of Deja Vu. He’d not quite passed out this time but he’d certainly collapsed and everyone swarmed him this time. No one hesitated.
“I’m okay.” He assured them all as he held one hand up as the other held him up “This cold’s just kicking my ass I guess.”
“Go home, sir.” Pleaded one of his agents and he nodded.
Perhaps that was for the best.
…
Your stomach had sunk the moment he hit the floor and your mind started to race as potential reasons for why he’d collapsed swarmed your brain. One particular scenario screamed out to you though and it made you feel sick just thinking about it.
Had his cancer come back?
He’d agreed to go home and rest and that had brought you some relief but you wished he’d see a doctor. You thought about whether you should tell him to but then your remembered you’d left him, so you had no right to ask him to do anything. You watched him leave and longed to go after him. To check-in and see how he was doing… but you didn’t.
Because you left.
So in the days that followed you kept a careful eye on him. He seemed a little better but then he was good at hiding himself from the world. Since you’d broken up, you’d been unable to see whether he was affected by it at all as he seemed to keep all his emotions locked away from view.
So you hadn’t been able to help you worry when he didn’t turn up to work. It was unlike him to just not come in and when you learned that he’d not called in either your worry grew tenfold. Then that afternoon you received a call that had torn a scream from you. Drawing everyone’s attention to your small little cubicle.
Marcus was in the hospital… It wasn’t good.
You’d ignored everyone's stares as you raced to your car. Throwing on the lights in order to get yourself to the hospital as quickly as you could. Upon arrival you threw your car into a space and raced to the ICU, pleading for someone to tell you where Marcus was. To tell you what was wrong… and when his doctor found you. The news tore you in two.
“He’s rejecting his kidney.” The doctor stated simply “It’s acute which means that without a transplant-“
“He’ll die.” You choked and the doctor nodded grimly “Take mine.” You stated, back straightening as you looked the doctor squarely in the eye.
“I-“
“You wouldn’t let me last time because I was pregnant.” You interrupted “Well I’m not now and I want to do this.”
“This is a huge decision.”
“It’s a simple decision.” You replied plainly.
“We’ll need to do a few tests first to ensure you’re a viable donor.” He stated and you nodded “Do what you need to do.”
…
They took some bloods and assured you that they’d rush the results through. Time was of the essence after all. Then you finally, after pacing the halls a little while, went to see Marcus and what greeted you made you sob. He was hooked up to one machine that you recognised well, a machine you knew was doing what his kidney could not right now. To say he was surprised to see you was an understatement, his eyes growing to the size of saucers as they filled with tears.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, his voice so small you almost missed his question.
“The hospital called.” You replied, “I guess I’m still your emergency contact.”
“Right.” He replied, eyes drifting down.
“Doctor told me that your body’s rejecting the Kidney.” You stated and he nodded numbly “They’re running some tests now but I volunteered to donate one of mine.”
This pulled his attention back to you instantly and he shook his head as tears spilt from his lids.
“No you can’t… it’s…” He choked on his words as he tried to find the right ones “That’s too much.” He sobbed “You’ve given me enough.”
‘Without it, you’re going to die Marcus.” You argued, “This isn’t about anything more than saving your life.”
A knock at the door pulled yours and Marcus’ gaze to the doorway where his doctor stood with a slip of paper in his hands.
“I have your results.” He stated.
“That was quick.” You huffed and he nodded before continuing.
“Yes… Well.” He paused a moment and you knew at that moment that it wasn’t good news “You won’t be able to donate your kidney.” He stated and your stomach sank.
“Why the hell not?” You snapped and he sighed.
“Because you’re pregnant again.”

A Problem Shared - Part 3
Masterlist
Summary: When Marcus is struck down with a sudden but serious illness, you both bond over shared ills.
Pairings: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Like AO3, I choose not to list any warnings. If you are easily triggered by health problems then do not read. (Sorry this took so long... everything's a tad hectic atm. Hope this was worth the wait!)
Part 1, Part 2
"What do you mean no?" Lisbon asked, her voice cracking and eyes filling with tears "What's wrong with him?"
You knew who she was. You knew what this woman had done to Marcus, how she'd broken his heart and left him a shell for some weeks when he'd first started. You'd silently hated her from afar for years but now, as she stood across from you with tears staining her cheeks you could no longer keep that grudge.
So you told her.
"Well, he was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the year. He's in remission but he got a cold which turned into Pneumonia and now his organs are failing." You started, eyes flitting up at her audible gasp and you noted the fat tears rolling down her face "The doctors have advised we turn off life support. His organs aren't strong enough to sustain him and we're just prolonging his suffering now."
"Have his parents come?" She asked and you shook your head, finally allowing your emotions to show.
"No, they uh... Well, they don't want to turn the machine off. They don't want to make that decision and I get it, I wouldn't either." You answered and she nodded sadly "I guess there's a part of me that's still holding out hope he'll make it." You said as you rested your hand on your stomach, her eyes following the motion.
"Are you?..." She asked, trailing off and you simply nodded, a small smile gracing your lips "Is it his?" You nodded again.
"Our own little miracle." You said and she smiled back at you.
A sad, tense, silence washed over the two of you as the information you'd given the other agent filtered through. It was a few minutes before she composed herself enough to speak again, her shoulders shaking as she carefully arranged the words she wanted to say.
"He doesn't deserve this." She started, grabbing your attention "What I did to him... He deserved better."
"He did." You said and she winced a little at the statement.
"I did really care for him." She assured you "I would have come here and married him if Patrick hadn't told me he loved me. I know he would have made me happy and I like to think I would have to but..."
"You weren't in love with him." You said and she shook her head.
"No."
"He understands that." You said to her and she gave you a weak smile "Despite how broken he was for a while, I don't think he ever held your decision against you." You continued, eyes drifting to the engagement ring on her finger "You can't help who you love."
Lisbon nodded her head as she gave you a weak smile, tears escaping from the slight movement.
"Can I see him?" She asked softly and you could only nod in reply.
"I can take you later." You said after a few moments of silence.
"Thank you." She replied and you nodded, giving her a weak smile before leaving the kitchen with your lunch in hand.
...
Your arrival at the hospital went the same way it had every day only this time, you weren't alone. You reached his room, hands shaking as you opened the door to his glass room. He was the same as the day before. Smothered in tubes and wires, eyes sunken into his skull.
"Hey, sweetheart." You said sweetly as you stopped at his bedside and bent down to place a kiss on his brow "I brought someone to see you." You said, turning your head to look at Teresa who was stook by the door awkwardly "Come on." You said, motioning for her to approach before stepping back so she could stand beside him.
"Hey, Marcus." She said softly, her voice wobbling a little "Normally the convention is to ask you how you've been but... Well, that would be pointless." She said, chuckling to herself "Can't answer me anyway." She choked, her hand taking his carefully and her eyes drifted down to it "Shit Marcus I'm so sorry this has happened to you... You deserved so much better than this."
Silence reigned over you both for a while as she silently sobbed. You couldn't help but watch her with pity plastered all over your face, a small part of you hating the fact you felt sorry for the woman that broke his heart.
"I hate that I hurt you." She continued after a few tense moments of silence "I never wanted to do that... I should have dealt with it all better."
She paused a moment. Her eyes drifted up to his face which was partially obscured by the tube down his throat and the tape that held it in place. She let out a stuttered breath before turning her head to look at you and sobbing.
"Does he have any chance of recovery?" She asked and you sighed.
"He needs a new kidney." You stated and she nodded "With a new Kidney, he has a good chance of fighting this."
"But?..." She trailed off and you sighed.
"He's a rare blood type." You said defeatedly "He's AB negative like me but they won't let me donate because of the baby."
"Oh." She replied, her eyes drifting back to him.
"He needs either a kidney from another AB negative doner or O Neg... both are super rare blood types and so a chance of a kidney becoming available to him is slim to none." You continued, watching her nod numbly "I did loads of research and in theory, there's little chance of me donating a kidney to him hurting the baby but because I've only been in remission a little over three years they..."
"You had cancer?" She asked and you nodded "Jesus." She choked and you gave her a sad smile.
"Kinda what brought us together I suppose." You confessed "I knew what it was like to go through this. Was able to support him as his cancer treatment was so much worse than mine... Suffered so much more than I ever did but... Well despite everything... We have so much to look forward to with the baby coming and now-"
You didn't see her pulling you into her arms. Just felt her warm embrace as she held you there and allowed you to sob into her silk blouse.
“I’m so sorry this is happening.” She said softly as you pulled away “I don’t know you well, but I can see you care for him a lot. You deserve so much better than this.”
“Thank you.” You replied as you gave her a small nod, a weak smile crossing your lips.
“I also know you know who I am…” She continued, her expression changing to one that looked like gratitude “I know you know I hurt him, so thank you for letting me see him.”
“It’s in the past.” You replied simply and she nodded “I had hoped to be his future.”
“There’s still hope.” Theresa said softly as she put a friendly hand on your arm “Don’t give up hope that he’ll come back to you.” She finished before glancing once more at Marcus “Rest up.” She said affectionatel “You’ve got two people to fight for now.” She finished before cupping his cheek affectionately and placing a soft kiss on his brow.
…
Another month passed… then two… and before you knew it you were five months pregnant. Your bump was obvious now and all your clothes accentuated it. People gushed about how you were glowing. How you had the perfect bump and yet you couldn’t find it in yourself to be flattered by the comments.
You and the baby were healthy yet Marcus remained the same. The machines kept him alive, kept him hanging on and the doctors kept advising the same thing. Turn off life support.
Marcus’ parents still refused to come. Refused to put an end to his suffering and you had no power to do anything. All you could do was watch from the sidelines as he lay there, hanging in limbo for the inevitable to happen.
You wondered how much longer he could stay like this. Stay on a machine that breathed for him as another cleaned his blood. All these things that did the work his organs couldn’t. How much longer could this go on?
“I was right.” You said, sitting at his side as you did every day.
You’d had your twenty-week scan earlier that day, a small moment of happiness as you’d watched your baby on that screen.
“We’re having a girl.” You said, smiling like a loon at the photos in your hand “She’s doing perfectly, about the size of a grapefruit.” You finished as you stood up to place the new photo of your daughter next to the one the nurses had kindly placed on the table beside his bed.
You stared at the two images side by side a moment, amazed at how much she’d grown in the two months since the last scan.
“Been thinking about names a little.” You confessed as you sat back down in your chair “Really like Arabella… could call her Bella or Bell for short. Also like Liberty.”
He said nothing, like always. No twitch of a finger to show you he’d heard you. The doctors assured you he was still in there but you’d lost all hope he might be able to hear you.
He was lost to you now.
~
3 months later…
“We’ve got a kidney for him.” Announced Marcus’ doctor as he practically sprinted into the room.
“What?” You screeched, turning in your chair awkwardly to face him “From where?” You asked as you rubbed your aching back.
“I can’t tell you those details, I can tell you it’s a match and it’s his.” The doctor said smiling at your heart soared “We’ll be taking him to surgery shortly.”
You nodded, eyes flying back to the still motionless Marcus beside you. You couldn’t believe it. He actually had a chance now? For 8 months, you’ve sat here and waited for his body to fail or his parents to finally decide there was no hope. Now there was a kidney. Now there was a chance that he’d live to meet his daughter. To be at your side when she was born.
The next few hours were pure madness. Marcus was whisked off and you were guided to a waiting room where you now sat, rubbing your aching back as you waited on news of the man you loved. A family was sitting across from you. The lady, maybe three or four years older than you, holding her son in her lap as she watched the clock tick the minutes away. You wondered who she was here for. What was wrong with them and if they were as sick as Marcus.
You tried to find anything to focus on other than your thoughts. Your attention was grabbed when the little boy across from you started to mutter something to his mother "Mommy... that lady's wetting herself."
You looked down to see water dripping onto the floor and you started to sob.
"No, not now." You cried as you shook her head "You gotta wait baby girl. Daddy's not better yet."
The lady stood and grabbed the attention of a nurse as you sobbed from your chair, crying harder when a set of hands tried to guide you out of the room.
“No, she can’t come yet.” You sobbed “Marcus needs to be there!… He has to be there!”
“Ma’am… your waters have broken which means baby’s ready.”
“I still have three weeks.” You cried harder as you were guided into a wheelchair “She’s early… she’s too early.”
“Ma’am-"
"He should be here." You choked, finally allowing the nurse to help you sit before you were whisked away to the maternity ward.
The events that followed were a blur then. Your next coherent thought was being told to push and your heart racing in your chest as you tried your utmost to do as you were asked. The injection they'd given you made the pain easier to endure but the exhaustion that washed over you was something you struggled against.
Each time the doctor ordered you to push you did, but each one seemed to drain you more than the last and just when you thought there was no way you could do it again, you were rewarded with cries to match your own. Your sobs were stopped in their tracks as your tired eyes searched out the owner of these sounds and you were greeted by a wriggling infant as she was placed on your chest. The nurse smiled sweetly at you as she congratulated you.
"Hey, you." You said softly as you gazed down at your little miracle "I'm so pleased to meet you." You cooed as you smiled lovingly down at her.
You were given a few minutes before the nurse returned, arms outstretched and ready to receive.
"I just need to get her cleaned and weight." She said kindly as she scooped her into her arms whilst the doctor started to poke and prod your stomach.
"It's not quite over yet." He said as he gave you a friendly smile "Just need to deliver the afterbirth and then we'll get you cleaned up and settled into a room." He stated and you nodded, willing the last part to be over so you could hold your baby in your arms again.
The last part was over quickly and with military-like precision. Your sheets were changed and you were moved to a quiet room where you lay there with your daughter in your arms as she slept soundly.
"I wish you daddy could see you." You said, your voice cracking as you spoke.
Your name being called pulled your attention from your baby and you looked up to see Marcus' doctor smiling back at you "I hear congratulations is in order." He said sweetly as he walked to your side and smiled down at your daughter "She's perfect despite being 3 weeks early. They think they read the scan wrong but want her to stay in for a few days to be safe."
"These things happen." He said sweetly before stepping back a little so you could look at him.
"How is he?" You asked after a few minutes and he nodded.
"He made it through the surgery... The next few hours will be vital." He answered and you nodded "He's on hulk strength antibiotics. As long as his body doesn't reject the kidney and his body starts to fight. He's got a good chance of pulling through."
"Thank you." You choked as you smiled at him, eyes drifting down to the infant in your arms who was now staring up at you "You hear that sweetheart?" You said softly as you stroked her cheek "Things are looking up."

A Problem Shared - Part 4
Masterlist
Summary: When Marcus is struck down with a sudden but serious illness, you both bond over shared ills.
Pairings: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Like AO3, I choose not to list any warnings. If you are easily triggered by health problems then do not read. (This is another short chapter but once again... loads more coming 😘)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
8 months prior…
You’d been sure at first that you were coming down with what Marcus had. The hot flashes and headaches were something he’d complained of over the past two days. You’d felt terrible leaving him and your concern for him continued to grow on the drive. You had stopped in your favourite cafe to grab your usual muffin and coffee, feeling a little twinge of sadness that Marcus wasn’t with you for the third time this week. When the lady had handed you your order, the smell had hit you and you couldn’t stop yourself from emptying the contents of your stomach into the trashcan at the end of the bar.
You’d started to piece it together pretty quickly after that. The headaches, hot flushes, and now you were sensitive to smells? All the signs were there and yet you found it hard to believe it. So when you’d finish your first load of meetings for the morning, you had dashed to the pharmacy down the street and bought a pack of tests.
You had to know.
One large glass of water and three tests later you were starting at the Clearblue tests... each one telling you the same thing.
You were pregnant.
A multitude of emotions washed over you at once. Excitement, joy and panic are a few amongst them. You and Marcus had only been together a handful of months and now you were pregnant with his child? You were happy though. You never thought this was going to happen for you and now here you were, 3 - 4 weeks pregnant, according to the tests, with the best man alive's baby.
So as you sat there a few minutes longer, looking at those tests, you knew that he would be happy about this because he wanted it just as much as you did and just like you, he thought he never would.
So when lunchtime came around you decided to give in to that niggling feeling and go check on him. Hoping your news would brighten up his day a little despite feeling as sick as he did. You were so excited to tell him. TO share this miracle journey with him.
Little did you know, fate had other plans.
~
Present-day...
It was a few days after you'd been released from the hospital and Marcus has yet to wake up from his surgery. The doctors had assured you it was a success, that his body was finally fighting but as you sat there nursing your daughter and eagerly waited for him to wake you started to worry. You'd researched possible things that could go wrong from here. You had done it because you wanted to be prepared or so you told yourself. In reality, you were just waiting for the next thing that would possibly take him from you and you hated yourself for it.
Why couldn't you just believe?
It was a little past noon when Marcus woke. He was dazed and confused as he attempted to blink away the fog that fluttered around his vision and clouded his mind.
Things came back in parts. Sounds were the first things, then smells. His sense of touch came back a little after that and then the final thing he regained was his sight.
The first thing he saw was white tiles above him. dotted with small holes that gave it a gravelly like texture. He smacked his lips as dry mouth made itself known and he lazily turned his head to seak out something to drink.
You noticed movement out the corner of your eye and your head snapped up in time to catch Marcus' gaze. He looked at you silently but you knew what he wanted so grabbed the ice chips beside him, scooted forward in your chair and brought one to his lips. He hummed as the frozen liquid hit his tongue and you smiled at the look of pleasure that crossed his face. You offered him a few more which he accepted before sitting back in your chair and smiling at him, a motion he weakly returned.
"H-h-how...l-l-long." He stuttered out, his face growing frustrated as his lack of ability to speak.
"The doctor said you might struggle to speak at first." You said as you placed a comforting hand on his "You've been here a little over eight months." You stated and his eyes widened at this "Your cold progressed to Pneumonia. Your body was too weak to fight off the infection and you went into Kidney failure. You've been in a coma and on life support and dialysis for eight months before a kidney came available a few days ago. You've started to fight the infection now and the doctors are a lot more optimistic of your chances." You finished with a smile as you gave his hand a friendly squeeze.
He nodded in reply, not wanting to try and speak again but you could see that he was struggling to process the information you'd just told him. You could only imagine what it was like to be told that but he was in for one more surprise. One that was starting to get fussy in her stroller.
"There's something else." You said as you gingerly pushed yourself to your feet, wincing at the slight soreness you still suffered "Someone you should meet." You said finally before bending down to scoop your baby from her pram and turning so he could see her.
His jaw dropped and his eyes grew wide and you brought her closer so that he could see her better.
"This is your daughter." You said sweetly as you placed her into his waiting arms "Born at 4:45 pm three days ago weighing seven pounds and 2 ounces." You gushed, beaming at him as he held the daughter he'd never known he was getting in his arms.
His eyes were brimming with tears as he looked up at you, mouthings something that sounded like "I have a daughter?" And you nodded at him.
"I found out about her a few hours before I found you unconscious in the apartment." You confessed, eyes drifting to her now sleeping form "Went into labour just after you were taken into surgery, she decided that she wanted to make an entrance." You said which brought out a wet chuckle from him "I haven't named her yet... I uh- I wanted to name her together."
"Ye?" He managed to choke out and you nodded.
"I have a few names I like but I can't decide." You confessed "I kinda managed to get it down to two... If you have any you like though, please do tell me... Or maybe write them down as it's hard for you to speak I suppose." You were rambling and he was smiling, it felt like it used to again "I like Arabella but I also really like Ivy."
"One." He said and you smiled as he held up a single finger.
"Arabella it is." You said as you stepped to the head of his bead so you could look down at her "Hi baby girl." You cooed as her eyes cracked open "We're a family now." You said as you looked down at Marcus, overjoyed he was finally with you again.
~
It was over a month before Marcus was released from the hospital. He required physio both physically and verbally after spending so long in a coma and you were there to support him through it all.
Things at home were a little alien at first. His spare room was now a nursery and a few pieces of his furniture had had to go to make way for the items the baby needed. You'd felt guilty as he had looked around at his home that you'd now made your own, but as he turned to you with a happy smile, your worries washed away.
Now a few weeks later, you'd fallen into somewhat of a routine. You pumped as well as breastfed her, giving Marcus a chance to feed Arabella too and you loved how hands-on with her he was from the off. To think that he woke up from an eight-month-long Coma to learn that he was now a father and yet, he took on the responsibility without argument. He doted on her every move. Look at her in a way you'd never seen him look at anything before. It was a pure sort of love that could not be manufactured for you felt it too as you look at her. She was your everything and she was his too.
"How much longer have you got before you go back to work?" He asked and you sighed.
"Two weeks and then it goes to unpaid." You answered "Honestly, the maternity leave in this country sucks. My cousin in the UK gets six months fully paid."
"Do you have any vacation to take?" He asked and you nodded.
"A little but the team need me back apparently." You said with a sigh "I hate to leave her but what else can I do. You won't be back at work a while so someone needs to pay the bills." You said with a chuckle and his brow furrowed.
He hated how you'd been left to fend for yourself for so long. Going through pregnancy and him being sick with no support from friends or it seems, work.
"Have my parent been by?" He asked and your face dropped at his question "What?"
"There's um... There's something you should know." You started, perching on the chair opposite his "You were really sick Marcus. So much so that your parents were called, because I had no legal right to make any decisions for you." You started and his brows pulled together even more.
"Decisions?"
"You were so sick that they advised us to turn off life support." You confessed and he sucked in a shocked breath "With your body shutting down and you needing a kidney, it was looking unlikely that you were going to pull through. You're such a rare blood type that it's a small miracle you got a kidney."
"Okay." He replied, a little concerned about what you were going to say next.
"Your parents refused to make that call. Refused to come out and see you for worry the doctors would force them to turn the machines off and I get it to an extent." You continued, letting out a choked sob "I couldn't have made that decision. I mean, I was pregnant with Bella and I wanted too badly for you to get better so we could be a family. I guess your parents made the right call." You chuckled and he sighed.
"I'm sorry you've had to go through this alone."
"I wasn't completely alone." You confessed and he gave you a bemused look "I met Theresa." You stated and his brows shot up "She was in town a little after you got sick. Came by the office to see you and well, after we literally crashed into each other, I brought her to see you and we kept in contact."
"Right." He replied, a little shocked by your revelation.
"She's been a really great help. Being there when I needed someone to talk to mainly but that's all I really needed." You said with a shrug and he nodded.
"I'm glad you weren't completely alone in all of this." He said after a few tense moments of silence and you smiled at him sweetly "We're going to need to figure out what to do with Bella when I do go back to work." He said, changing the subject and you nodded.
"Well, I did start looking into some nannies but they're pretty pricey."
"I don't want you to worry about that." He stated and you nodded "We'll start looking at some this weekend and maybe interview a few when I'm feeling a little stronger?"
"You're pretty amazing Marcus Pike, you know that?" You said softly and he blushed at your words "I couldn't have wished to have had a surprise miracle baby with anyone better."
"I'm glad you think so." He replied with a wink and you chuckled "You're pretty amazing yourself."
"I'm not-"
"Yes, you are." He interrupted "You sat by my side every day whilst pregnant and alone." He continued, taking your hand "You delivered our daughter into this world all on your own and I couldn't be prouder."
You gave him a shy smile, eyes drifting to the small screen that showed your daughter sleeping soundly in her cot. His hand squeezing yours pulled your attention back to him and his smile.
"I'm on the mend now... so I am going to make the most of life now." He said firmly and you nodded, a few tears shaking free "Nothing's going to get in our way now."
If only.

I’m fortunate for the friends I have on here who have supported me through it all and I promise I will get back to writing soon.
Just in a weird place at the moment and I’m feeling a little lost 💔

Delectable Dates
Summary: After meeting Marcus Pike at a party, you were immediately swept off your feet by him and even after only three dates... You're pretty sure you're falling. A dinner surprise brings everything out in the open.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Female Reader
Warnings: Pure Fluff
Notes: Hope you like!! Thanks for the request boo 😘 If anyone else wants me to write something... hit me up with a message ❤️
He's stepped up his game this time around.
You'd been collected by a flash car and driven to an upmarket part of the city, somewhere you'd never dared go to before but as you stepped out of the car yourself admiring the beautiful architecture before you. The building was old but beautifully preserved with its painted wood front and intricate stained glass windows. You made your way inside where you were met by a greeter who welcomed you and led you to the table Marcus had reserved for you both, grinning when your eyes locked with his.
"Hey." You said as you sat down, thanking the man who helped push in your chair "This place is so fancy." You chuckled and Marcus beamed at you.
"Well, I wanted to go big for our third date." He confessed and you smiled widely at him.
"Well, if you're trying to get me out of this dress, you're doing well so far." You said bashfully, surprised by your forwardness and he blushed.
"Wasn't my first thought but, good to know." He replied with a wink "They do a great steak here." He said as he picked up the menu "I ordered us a bottle of champagne, I hope that's okay."
"More than." You replied, heart, fluttering wildly in your chest.
"Great."
The two of you fell into an easy conversation then. Discussing work, what you'd gotten up to over the weekend, what the latest drama with your mum was. It all felt so natural with him. Like this was how it had always been.
Your meeting had been chaotic. A friend had organised a party to celebrate her promotion and low and behold, there Marcus had been. Looking perfect in a rusty orange henley and dark jeans. You'd instantly felt drawn to him but despite several glasses of liquid courage, you'd been unable to pluck up the courage to speak to him.
Till fate interviened.
You'd poured yourself a fresh glass of red and were making your way over to the group you'd spent most of the evening with and that's when he'd stepped into your path. You'd found yourself distracted by a stray curl that had fallen by his temple which ended with you spilling your wine down his front, and after copious amounts of apologising and dragging him to the bathroom so you could attempt to soak his shirt before it was ruined, he'd asked you out. You also might have made out.
Just a little bit.
That had then led to several dates. Each one, better than the last, and you found yourself falling hard and heavy for this man but you'd yet to put a label on it.
You were always one to be nervous the longer you dated someone. You'd been let down so many times that you hated wasting your time on relationships that weren't going anywhere but Marcus had assured you he wanted everything you did. So you swallowed your nerves down and allowed yourself to go with the flow.
Not something you usually entertained.
You both ate your meals in comfortable silence, pausing every now and then to compliment something or to try each other's food. It was cheesy and cliché and you loved every second of it. You were having a perfect night until two people decided to make themselves known.
"Marcus?"
This pulled the agent's attention away from you and towards the owner of the voice. His face dropped when he locked eyes with the brunette woman and his body went rigid.
"Good to see you Pike." Came another voice owned by a blonde man with a dashing smile "And who's this lovely lady?"
Your name fell from Marcus' lips as his eyes flitted to the other man "She's a friend of mine." He finished and your stomach dropped. Face falling with obvious disappointment.
"Patrick Jane." He said as he held his hand out for you "This is my partner Teresa Lisbon."
You felt sick as your eyes flitted to the woman beside him, her own hand held out in polite gesture. You knew exactly who she was. What she had done to the man across from you and suddenly his behaviour made sense but it also stung.
Guess he's not over her
"What are you doing in DC?" He asked, his tone nervy as his eyes locked on Lisbon.
"We had a deposition." She stated and the man nodded "Jane had said this restaurant was good so we thought we'd come here before we headed back. Guess you had the same idea huh?" She chucked and he nodded awkwardly.
"Guess so." He replied, his expression turning soft and sad as he glanced at Jane before returning his attention to her.
"Well, we shall leave you alone." She said after a beat "I'm sure your friend is tired of us taking up your time."
"She's fine." He said and that was the final straw.
"I need to get going anyway." You said, taking him by surprise and his head flicked around to look at you "Thanks for a lovely evening Marcus." You said before gathering your bag and coat "I will ping you my half."
With that you stood and left, unable to stop the tears that had started to slip down your cheeks as you stepped out into the chilly night air. You were just about to raise your hand to call for a cab when a hand on your wrist stopped you and you turned your head to see Marcus behind you.
"Where are you going?" He asked, his eyes glittering under the streetlight "I thought we were going to have dessert at mine?"
"Is that what you do with all your 'friends'..." You trailed off and he flinched "I thought I was a bit more than that to you Marcus but clearly not... You're obviously not over her." He accused as you pointed back at the restaurant.
"I am." He argued and you scoffed "I just... She brings a side out of me that I hate." He confessed and your expression softened "Things went so fast with her. One minute we were eating pancakes, the next she was going to move to DC with me and we were going to get married." He continued and you listened intently as he took your hands in his "She destroyed any confidence I had. So when I saw them, I didn't want them thinking I was rushing into things head first again and I don't know why because it doesn't matter what they think about how I feel."
"And what's that Marcus?" You pushed and he sighed.
"That I'm in love with you." He confessed and you felt all the air leave your lungs.
The world around you fell away as he took a step closer to you, your noses brushing as he rested his brow on yours.
"I know we've only been dating a few months but I have fallen so hard for you..." He trailed off, letting out a shaky breath before he continued "And that scares me... Because it's what happened with her and I got burned. I don't want that to happen with you."
"I love you too." You announced, stopping him dead and his eyes grew to the size of saucers as he stared at you "And I have been getting nervous about it too because I have never felt like this before... Everything feels right with you... And natural and I can't see us ever breaking up and that freaks me out a bit but it also excites me."
"Yeah?" He asked, his voice small as he brushed his lips over yours.
"Yeah."
"Wanna get out of here?" He asked and you giggled.
"Sure."
He paid the bill and the two of you grabbed the first cab you could. His lips didn't leave yours as you sped through the city streets, not caring that the cab driver tutted at you both from his polyester throne of judgement.
Then you arrived at his building and it was a chaotic dance of paying the cab and making it to his door. All the while, your hearts thundered with anticipation at what was finally going to happen after all this time and when all was said and done, you lay tangled in each other arms. Soaking up the love and adoration you both felt for each other and for the first time in a long time you felt happy and content.
"So when do you want to do all the things we talked about on our first date?" He asked, placing soft kisses on your temple.
"What, marriage and kids?" You questioned and he nodded "As soon as I can." You confessed "I don't want to pressure you into anything but I'm not getting any younger either. Time's a' ticking for me." You joked and he smiled.
"How about we aim to do all of it in the next two years?" He asked and your head shot around to look at him "By this time in two years. We will be married and hopefully "A mini you and me."
"You serious?"
"Deadly." He assured you and you smiled sweetly at him "I'm tired of waiting for what I want to happen, in what people consider an 'appropriate amount' of time."
"Me too." You chuckled and he grinned at you "So we're in agreement?" He asked and you nodded.
"Definitely."
"Perfect." He purred as he kissed you deeply "Should probably start with you moving in."
"Are you asking me to move in with you?" You questioned, brow raising at him.
"Do you want to?" He asked and you snorted a laugh "What?"
"That's not how you ask baby." You chuckled and he smirked at you "Ask me properly."
"Okay." He said with a nod before he adjusted the position in which he lay so he could look you directly in the eyes "Would you like to move in with me sweetheart?"
"Let me think about it." You shrugged and his face fell for a moment before he rolled his eyes at your grin "Yes Marcus." You paused, kissing him softly "I would love to move in with you."
"Great."

Fantasies
Masterlist
Summary: Over dinner one evening, Marcus tells you of a filthy fantasy he has and you do your utmost to make it a reality.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: This is just pure, shameless, smut! 18+ NO MINORS
Notes: This is just completely self-indulgent if I'm being honest with y'all! It's also partly based on something that happened to me the other night 😉 make of that what you will 😅 (divider courtesy of @supernaturalgirl20 )
You hadn't even known that remote controlled vibrators were a thing. It had been over dinner one night that Marcus had confessed to you that he had a fantasy regarding one of these little gadgets. You hadn't asked how he came to know about them but after he'd told you, you'd bought one.
When you'd showed him your purchase he had practically jumped you, ravaging you to show you just how much he appreciated how you were willing to make this fantasy a reality.
He'd decided the perfect day to make this desire happen was your anniversary dinner. He'd booked a table at your favourite restaurant, nothing fancy, but the place meant a lot to the two of you. You'd picked a simple outfit. Jeans, boots and a loose, cable knit, sweater that hid the new lingerie that you'd purchased beneath. You slipped the device in with ease, securing it in place with your emerald green panties before pulling on your jeans and skipping out of your bedroom.
"Ready sweetheart?" He asked and you nodded, biting your lip as your vibrated with excitement.
"Got it in?" He asked and you nodded, grinning at him as he pulled you into a biting kiss "Good."
...
You couldn't believe you were going to do this. You ordered a bottle of wine. Red, that always relaxed you and then you started to talk as you would normally, falling into your usual routine.
"So how's the case going?" He asked and you sighed "Stressful. Just when we think we're a step ahead of the bastards they - Oh - they -fuck - Shit baby." You moaned as he turned the device on and fiddled with the controls.
"You were saying?" He pushed and you squeaked, rubbing your thighs together to gain more friction.
"They uh - mmm - they seem to be..." He turned the intensity up again and you couldn't think straight "Fuck Marc I can't"
"Can't what baby?" He asked, a devious smile crossing his face as he lowered the frequency and your mind slowed again.
"I can't string a sentence together when you're doing that."
"Doing what?" He teased as he started to swipe his finger up and down, making the toy pulse inside you and reducing you to a quivering mess.
You shifted in your seat, desperate to gain just a little more friction before he turned it down again and you groaned. This edging was killing you. You took a large gulp of your wine, face flushed as the waiter made his way over to take your food order. Marcus went first as you pondered a moment longer over your order before finally deciding and quickly telling him.
As soon as the waiter was gone he was back at it again, raising the intensity so that you were on the cusp of cumming before he dropped it again and left you silently panting.
You couldn't help but get more and more aroused by the whole situation. The agent's eyes were practically black with lust and you were so turned on that you weren't sure you could make it home before you fucked him.
"Baby please." You pleaded, your voice a whisper as you shifted in your seat again.
"Please what?" He enquired and you moaned, jolting when he suddenly raised the intensity before dropping it straight after "What do you want baby?" He purred and you sighed "You wanna cum?"
"Yes." You sighed and he grinned.
He'd been at this for over twenty minutes and you'd taken it like a champ. That deserved a reward. So he raised the vibrations to maximum and watched as you shifted, gaining that little bit more friction you needed to cum, grabbing the ends of the table so hard your knuckles went white.
"Good girl." He gushed before turning the toy off completely.
Little did you know that he wasn't done with it yet.
~
"So how did you find it?" You asked as you stepped into the apartment you shared with him "What you wanted?"
"Mmmmm." He moaned as he pulled you into a sensual kiss that made your toes curl "Not done with you yet baby." He growled and you clenched around the toy inside of you.
"No?"
"No." He replied, winking at you before he pulled you into another kiss "Why don't you slip out of this and then meet me in the bedroom?" He suggested as he pulled his bead back to look at you "I have a surprise for you."
You nodded eagerly, slipping into the bathroom to remove your clothes and admiring the underwear set you adorned. You'd always been a little self-conscious of your body. You weren't stick thin. You had been at one point in your life but as the years went by you softened and swelled in places that made you want to hide yourself away from the world but not from Marcus.
He made you feel like you were Aphrodite herself.
The set was simple. A pair of Emerald green panties with a bra to match. Two straps reached from the centre across the top stopping at the straps and highlighting your breasts perfectly. He was going to love it.
Moving out of the bathroom you stepped into the bedroom to see that he'd lit every candle you owned. A smell of sea salt and sage hitting you and making you smile as you looked up to see a rather complicated contraption laying on the bed.
"What's that?" You asked as you turned to look at him and he simply grinned.
"Do you trust me?" He questioned and you clenched again at the look he gave you.
"Yes," You whispered, kissing him passionately.
"Get on the bed." He instructed and you complied "On your knees."
He came up behind you, grabbing what looked to be a bunch of straps to you but he seemed to know what he was doing. He looped both your arms into it before fastening it just below your breasts, his fingertips brushing over your new bra before growling against your neck.
"I like this." He stated as he pinged one of the elastic straps that sat over your breasts "This is staying on."
He grabbed your wrists next, pulling them behind your back before fastening them with the velcro cuffs, biting the junction between your shoulder and your kneck before pushing you on your front.
"Ass up." He ordered and you did as you were told, now completely unable to see what he was doing.
Two more straps were fastened around your thighs, leaving you completely at his mercy and you felt yourself growing wetter and wetter by the second.
"We're going to use colours here okay?" He stated and you nodded.
"Green means good, yellow means not sure, red means stop." He stated and you nodded "What are you right now sweetheart?"
"Green." You moaned "Green... fuck... do what you want."
He growled at that. Grabbing two items from the dresser beside him before climbing onto the bed behind you. You had no idea what was about to happen and you were thrilled by that. You could see a light out of the corner of your eye and then suddenly the toy was pulsing inside you on a loop and you were sure you were going to go feral. You heard the click of a cap and you knew instantly what that was but you were curious about what it was for. Well, until you felt the familiar point of your silicon plug tease your ass.
"Colour?"
"Green."
You moaned as he pushed the instrument in, the stretch stinging a little initially before you started to acclimatise to the intrusion. He returned to the toy, turning off the loop so that he could tease you again. You were a mess, no longer holding back the pleasured moans and cries as he edged you within an inch of sanity.
You were completely at his mercy and he loved it. Watching you struggle against your restraints and shift as you tried to give yourself some sort of relief.
"Please." You begged, tears leaking from the corners of your eyes as he brought you to the cusp again, only to tear it away "Fuck Marcus I want you."
Pulling the plug from your ass he groaned at the sight of you stretched and ready for him. Grabbing the lube, he coated himself generously with it before teasing you a little more.
"Please." You practically yelled and he grinned before slowly breaching your hole, careful not to hurt you.
He was gentle, always was when you did this particular activity but as he managed to push himself further and further, you started to get desperate. The feel of him in your ass whilst the toy pulsed inside you was like nothing you'd ever experienced. You felt so full and yet you wanted more. You started to move your hips to meet his movements and that drove him to thrust harder, deeper and you could feel your orgasm peeking.
"Colour?"
"Green." You screamed, throwing your head back as his pace quickened "Fuck."
This was the most intense fuck you'd ever received. He set the toy on a loop again before he focused solely on you and making you cum. The vibrations were making it hard for him not to peak then and there but there was no way he was going to let himself finish before you.
Snaking his hand around your belly, he pressed the clitoral stimulator more firmly against you and that set you off. Cumming with a scream as you strangled his length and clenched around him.
"Fuck." He growled, cumming hard and deep before he collapsed over you, panting in your ear "That was..."
"Incredible ." You finished for him before giggling and a sated silence reigned over you a while as you both floated down from your highs "Baby?" You said Finally as you attempted to look at him over your shoulder."
"Mmmm?"
"Can you take this thing off of me now?" You asked, "My legs are dead."
"Shit." He replied as he sprung to action, releasing you from your bonds.
You then collapsed on your side, smiling as he lay down beside you and you shared a loving kiss before you grinned at him.
"What?"
"That was some kinky shit." You sniggered and he laughed.
"Yeah, it was."
"Didn't know you had it in you." You teased, winking at him before glancing at the contraption "We're definitely using that again." you said as you kissed him languidly.
"Definitely."

Plain as Day
Masterlist
Summary: You wished Marcus would see what was right in front of him. Wished he would see that you loved him unconditionally but instead you had to watch as he fell for the wrong girl over and over again. When he finally sees it. It's too late.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Original 'Female' Character, Reader x Original 'Male' Character, Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Whump, Sexual content (Not Explicit), Angst (Tones of it), Don't wanna give the story away so...
Marcus had started dating a girl from accounting at it was killing you. Since Teresa, he'd thrown himself headfirst into finding someone to share his life with and each girl he'd dated since then had been that for him.
Until they left him.
Then you'd been the one to pick up the pieces of his broken heart but no one was there to do it for you. Your heart broke every single time he found someone new... And every single time they left him a shell of his perfect self.
You wanted to tell him how you felt. Wanted to tell him that you loved him. That you'd do everything you could to make him smile every single day for the rest of your days but you always chickened out. Then the next thing you knew, he was in the arms of another and you'd missed your chance.
"So how are things going with Kirsty?" You asked, sipping at your latte.
This relationship had lasted the longest. He'd been with her nine months now and a part of you thought finally he'd found someone that would give him everything he ever wanted. Everything you were willing to give him.
"Really great actually." He said, grinning over the rim of his mug "I was thinking I might ask her to move in with me."
"Wow." You replied, eyes widening at this "That's pretty huge."
"Yeah well... She's... She's everything I've ever wanted."
That stung. You were barely able to hide your flinch at his words but you did. You smiled at him, using your mug to high you grimace and then abruptly changed the conversation. Not wanting to linger on this one a moment longer.
Marcus had been on assignment for a month when he returned to his latest heartbreak. Kirsty had moved in two months prior, the two of them living in domestic bliss when he'd been told he was going undercover.
"I'm home." He shouted, throwing his duffle down and his keys into the dish beside his front door.
When Kirsty didn't answer he assumed she wasn't home so he picked up his duffle and carried it to the utility room, ears picking up muffled sounds as he emptied his clothes into the laundry hamper.
"Kirsty?" He called out again but still no answer.
Dumping the empty back in the closet, he made his way to the bedroom he shared with her and upon opening the door, discovered Kirsty.
Her face was twisted in pleasure as the man above her railed her within an inch of her life, hands grasping at the globes of his ass.
"What the fuck?" Marcus yelled and Kirsty scrambled to cover herself as the man she'd been fucking just a few moments before managed to grab his clothes before dashing out and past Marcus, not even gracing him with a glance "Well?"
"I'm sorry Marcus." She sobbed and the agent rolled his eyes, scrubbing a hand over his face "I didn't mean-"
"To get caught?"
Kirsty's mouth opened and closed as she tried to find something, anything to say but she was coming up empty.
"Get your stuff and get out."
"Marcus baby. Please, let's talk about this."
"Talk about this?" He spat, nostrils flaring as he threw her a dark glare "There's nothing to talk about. I loved you... I invited you to live with me, to share my life with me and for a year that's exactly what we did but then the moment I go away on assignment you're fucking someone new."
"Marcus please..."
"Get out."
...
You at his within an hour of her leaving, pouring him a glass of wine as he silently sobbed from his couch. You couldn't believe you were here again, watching him break for what felt like the hundredth time.
"Here." You said as you handed him the stemless glass and then giving his shoulder a friendly squeeze as he nodded his thanks.
"I can't believe I was so stupid to think I'd finally found the one."
"You're not stupid for wanting to find love, Marcus." You groaned, finding it hard to give him the same comfort you'd given him over and over again "It's what we all hope for."
"I really thought she was it for me. That I'd finally found someone that loved me for me."
"God Marcus." You yelled and he recoiled in surprise "I love you for you. I have for years but you're too fucking stuck in your own little world to see what was right in front of you all along."
"You what?"
"I love you, Marcus." You stated, "I'm in love with you and I'll I've ever wanted is to give you everything."
"Oh." He replied and you scoffed, rolling your eyes as you stood to pour yourself more wine.
"Oh?" You grumbled, "That's all you've got to say?"
"Well, I wasn't expecting that." He replied, taking a shaky sip of wine before looking up at you "I love you." He started and you turned to face him "You're my best friend. You've gotten me through so much heartbreak and I will forever love you and appreciate what you do for me but I'm not in love with you."
You nodded, downing the last of your wine before slamming the glass down on the counter and collecting your things.
"Wait, you're not leaving are you?" He asked in a panicked tone.
"Yep."
"But I need you." He croaked and you turned to face him, tears streaming down your cheeks as you locked eyes with his.
"Yeah well, I can't do this anymore Marcus." You sobbed, your heart breaking as you spoke "I can't deal with my heart shattering every time this happens because I don't have anyone to pick up the pieces for me."
"But-"
You didn't let him speak. You just walked out the door and attempted to keep your head held high, wanting to keep what little was left of your integrity intact.
Marcus sobbed as he watched you leave. He'd had no idea how you felt about him. It had never been obvious to him and so he'd hurt you over and over without realising it. His guilt swallowed him whole as he wallowed in his grief for tonight he'd lost not one, but two people he cared about deeply. He silently prayed that you would come around. That you'd see sense and realise that you'd rather have him as a friend than not at all but he knew that was selfish because that's not what you needed. It's just what he wanted.
4 months later...
Your current case had taken an interesting turn. Art thieves turning to murder and suddenly you felt so very out of your depth. You didn't want to turn to Marcus for help but you knew you should. You just couldn't face him. You hadn't. Not after finally laying yourself bare for him only for him to reject you and leave you feeling exposed. You'd moved on though. Met someone who liked you for you and so you thought perhaps now was the best time to talk to him.
As good a time as any.
Knocking on his office you waited a moment before he called you in, entering with purpose as he looked up at you and watched you with wide eyes as you entered.
"Do you have a moment sir?"
"Since when have I been sir?" He chuckled but you didn't reciprocate, just shrugged before taking a seat when he motioned towards it "What's up?"
So you told him. Keeping it professional and to the point, as you regaled the issues you were having with your case. He listened intently, taking notes and when you finished he took a deep breath and thought it all over. His brows knitting together in the way you loved and making your heart flutter just for a second before you banished it into the deepest pit you could find.
"Leave this with me. I will see if we can dig up anything that might help you."
"Thank you." You nodded before pushing yourself to your feet, stopping when his soft voice spoke.
"How have you been?" He asked and you turned your head to look at him, noting the wounded expression that painted his features.
"Fine." You replied plainly and he winced, stung by your tone.
"I'm sorry for... for what I said. I should have been more delicate." He stated, your face remaining impassive "If I'd known I'd lose you as a friend I would have kept my mouth shut."
"It's fine Marcus." You growled, stopping him dead "I've met someone so it all worked out for the best."
"Oh." He replied, a little shocked by how much the news you'd met someone stung "You're dating someone?"
"Mhmm."
"From work?" He asked, unsure as to why as soon as he said it.
"No." You replied simply and he nodded, watching as you gathered your files.
"Well, I'm happy for you." He said and you nodded "You deserve to be happy."
"So do you, Marcus." You replied, your voice and face softening.
He nodded, smiling weakly before tapping on his legal pad "I'll get back to you on this by the end of the day."
You thought it would feel weird going out for drinks with Marcus but it hadn't. A few days after you'd spoken, he asked if you wanted to catch up and you'd accepted. He'd told you to bring Mark along and you did, excited to finally be the one to introduce someone to him rather than the other way around. The night was going so smoothly you almost thought it was a dream, Mark and Marcus instantly hitting it off.
"So tell me, Mark." Started Pike as he sipped his beer "What do you do for a living?"
"I'm actually an art dealer." He replied, grinning at you as you smile up at him "I tried to flog this lovely lady a painting from my gallery. Turned out she was an FBI agent looking for information on a robbery gone wrong one block down from mine.
"Is that so?" Marcus asked, his stomach twisting a little at this revelation "That the one we spoke about the other day?" He asked you and you nodded.
"Yeah. Mark hadn't seen anything of course."
"Well, I saw something." He started and you gave him a bemused look "I saw a beautiful woman walk into my gallery and steal the ground from under me."
"Ugh, you're so corny." You scoffed, rolling your eyes at him as you chuckled into your wine glass.
"But you love it." He cooed in response and you grinned.
"I guess." You replied with a wink before kissing him sweetly and returning your attention Pike.
Something about this information didn't sit right with him but he pushed it aside and attempted to enjoy the rest of the evening. Despite the jealousy that bubbled under the surface of his skin as he watched you fawn over this man. He'd tried to deny it. Tried to push it to one side but now as he watched you kiss this man he knew.
He wanted you.
...
After that night he started his own investigations and dug things up that made Mark look bad.
Very bad.
He had an ongoing feud with the Gallary owner that'd been murdered which included calls to the police where the victim had claimed Mark had threatened to hill him. The more he dug up the more sick to the stomach he'd become. Mark was now what he seemed.
He pulled everything he'd learned together and called you to his office, knowing you'd need to see the evidence for yourself if you were to believe him. Then he readied himself to tell you, knowing this was going to be the hardest thing he'd ever done.
"What's all this?" You asked as you slipped into his office, seeing Mark's picture littering the desk "Marcus?"
'I think Marcus is guilty of the Smith murder." Straight to the point.
"You've got to be kidding me." You scoffed, shaking your head as you turned to leave.
"No, wait." He pleaded "Just look." He finished pointing at the evidence laid out for you on his desk.
You spent some time reading it over, unable to believe that there was this much on a man that you'd been dating. A man you believe you were falling in love with.
"He had an ongoing feud with Smith." He piped up a short while later "Looks like it got pretty heated between them."
"And this is proof he murdered him?" You snapped, eyes flicking up to his "Why are you doing this Marcus? Why are you trying to ruin something good?"
"I'm not-"
"I thought you cared about me." You sobbed, wiping your tears with your sleeve "You said you loved me... Appreciated me... Is this what friends who love each other do?"
"Please I'm not doing this because I'm trying to break you up." He pleaded with you "I'm doing this to help you."
"Help me how?" you growled "Ruin my life and screw up my case?"
Marcus stood there slackjawed, unable to say a word and you scoffed at him, rolling your eyes as you turned and left.
That was the last time you ever spoke.
~
"Get out."
...

Marcus stood there slackjawed, unable to say a word and you scoffed at him, rolling your eyes as you turned and left.
That was the last conversation you’d share.
~
He was numb when he was you, laying there with wide, terrified eyes in a pool of blood that gushed from your body. He was at your side in a heartbeat, pulling you into his arms as his tears flowed freely.
Mark was dead beside you, shot in the head by Marcus when he'd walked in to see him pointing his gun at your bloodied form but at that moment he was unable to feel anything but despair.
"I-I'm s-sorry." You stuttered, blood slipping between your lips as you sobbed "I sh-should h-have listened."
"Shhh." Marcus hushed, resting his forehead against yours "No need to be sorry." He assured you as he rocked your form gently "Helps coming sweetheart."
"M-M-Marcus." Talking became harder each moment that passed but you needed him to know.
He needed to know.
"Don't talk sweetie." He said softly, cupping your cheek as he affectionately stroked it with his thumb "Whatever it is you can tell me later."
You shook your head, the motion making you cough with which painted your chin with a thick glob of blood.
"I n-need to t-tell you n-now." You paused, taking in a pained breath 'N-not gon' make it... an you kn-know it."
"No don't talk like that." Marcus sobbed, looking over at one of his men who was desperately trying to staunch the bleeding "You're going to be just fine."
"I love you." You uttered, tearful eyes locking with his and he sobbed as you grew still.
Everything grew still.
Marcus screamed.
He buried his head in the crook of your neck as he sobbed, rocking your body as he wailed. Not caring who saw.
"Please don't leave me." He cried, pulling back to look into your unseeing eyes "Please come back to me." He begged, pressing his forehead against yours as he scrunched his eyes and cried "I love you, please. Please don't leave me."
You remained still. Void of life.
Eventually, your body was pried from his grasp but he didn't stop screaming. He didn't stop crying. Not even when you were zipped up in the coroner's bag and wheeled away. He just continued to cry out for you, crumbling to his knees as some invisible arms held him.
He should have seen it from the beginning. Seen what was right in front of him, plain as day.
Instead, he'd made poor choices. Choices that had gotten him here and he now had to live with the fact that he loved you. He was painfully in love with you and you'd never know.
You'd died not knowing that he loved you too.
I'm sorry...

Just Friends - Chapter 2
Masterlist
Summary: You and Marcus shared something in common. You were unlucky in love. You’re the office manager for his department and he’s your boss but after one fateful evening, your lives are to be entwined forever.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Reader
Part 1
Warnings: Angst. Just pure angst.
You hated her.
You weren’t sure why. She hadn’t done anything to you, all she had done was captured his attention. You had no right to be jealous. You’d told him you no longer cared for him and you’d been pretty bitter towards him ever since but when he had arrived at work with her on his arm you’d wanted to rip her pretty blonde hair out.
Why did it bother you so much?
Today was your twenty-week scan and you were nervous about a multitude of things. Was the baby going to be okay? Did he want to know the sex as bad as you did? You grabbed your bag and pushed yourself to your feet, groaning when your back protested at the movement.
“Hey let me help you.” Said Marcus sweetly as he jumped to your side, helping you to your feet “You okay? Excited?”
“Mhmm.” Was your reply, desperately trying to blink back the tears that had decided to rear their ugly head only to fail completely.
“Whoa, hey what's the matter?” He asked sweetly and you angrily wiped away your tears.
“Nothing.” You growled, “Let's go.”
“Oh okay.” He replied awkwardly, giving you a small smile before following you out of the office.
“You two off to the scan?” Came a sickly sweet voice and you rolled your eyes as the two of you stopped in the hall “Marcus is dying to know what it is aren’t you baby.” She finished, pulling him in for a kiss when you turned to face her.
“Sweetheart, we really need to leave or we’re going to be late.” He mumbled against her lips and you felt your heart twist in your chest “I’ll call you later okay?” He finished and she nodded, kissing him once more before giving the two of you a wave and skipping down the hall.
You said nothing, just started walking at a brisk pace towards the elevators, desperate to get out of the office before you made a fool of yourself. You weren’t sure why seeing Marcus with her upset you so much. It’s not like you were still in love with him... Then the realisation hit you.
You're still in love with him.
You got into his car in silence when he unlocked it and you sat in silence as he drove to the clinic, unable to look at him as you stewed in your cognisance.
“Everything okay?” He asked, breaking the tense atmosphere that had settled over you both “Seem a little emotional today.”
“I’m fine Marcus.” You growled, keeping your gaze fixed on the buildings that whizzed by.
“Look I get that things between us have been a bit shit lately.” You scoffed at that “But I am genuinely trying to do the right thing by you and our baby. I don’t want to bring our child into the world where their parents can’t stand the sight of each other.”
“I don’t want that either.” You muttered, still not looking at him.
“Then talk to me.” He pleaded “I know I hurt you. I made a mistake and I am sorry for that but look at what came out of it.” He said sweetly as he laid a gentle hand on your growing bump “You’re giving me something I was genuinely starting to think I’d never have and I'm so excited.”
“Kelly incapable of giving them to you?” You snapped and he looked at you in shock.
“What?” He gnarled back “What the hell has she got to do with this?”
It’s out there now, may as well roll with it.
“You say that you didn’t think you’d ever become a father. Kelly’s young… Surely you’ll get everything you want from her one day.”
“Kelly and I have been dating for 3 weeks.”
“Wow, and you haven’t proposed to her yet?” You jeered at him and he looked away wounded, tears forming in his brown depths.
You instantly regret your words, knowing that the hurt Lisbon inflicted on him was still a little raw. You wiped your tears away angrily and resumed your previous activity of glaring out of the window.
“If you have an issue with me dating Kelly then just say.” He mumbled, so quietly you almost missed it.
“Yes, I have an issue with you dating Kelly.” You yelled, making him jump “I have an issue with you dating anyone but me because for some deranged reason I’m still in love with you.” You stop in your tracks when you realise what you'd just said to him.
He hadn't even known you were in love with him in the first place.
“You’re in love with me?” He asked, coming to a stop at the traffic lights and gawking at you in disbelief.
“Yes… But I know you don’t love me and you don’t want to be with me.” You rambled, scraping a shaking hand over your face.
“I suggested we get married.” He protested and you snorted at him, rolling your eyes.
“Out of necessity.” You screeched in exasperation “Not because you actually want to be with me or have any romantic feelings for me... and you know what Marcus?…” You trailed off, taking a shaky breath “That hurts worse than your initial rejection." You paused, finally looked at him "That you, of all people, would subject me... someone you claim to care about to a loveless marriage.”
“But-”
“And yourself for that matter.” You interrupted “Do you really want to put yourself through that again?”
“Again?”
“Well, your first marriage ended in divorce.” You stated, unable to miss him flinch “Do you seriously think that ours would work?”
“It might… I mean I don’t love you now but that might come in time.” He said softly, eyes fixed on the road as he pulled into the clinic parking lot.
“Great then let's do it then!” You joked and he started at your statement, head snapping in your direction before noting your expression “Let's get married and hope that you'll love me back one day! Sounds wonderful.”
“I’m done with this conversation.” He growled, feeling his anger and hurt start to reach boiling point.
He got out of the car, slamming the door behind him and locking it over his shoulder, not sparing a glance in your direction to see if you were following. He was just so angry. He knew he'd made a mistake but you were refusing to give him an inch and he wasn't sure how much more he could take before giving up completely.
…
You laid patiently on the bed, the tension practically vibrating between you both as you waited for the doctor to enter. This isn’t how you’d expected today to go. He’d barely look at you since leaving the car and you knew this was your fault, you shouldn't have said anything. You knew you were being unreasonable. Kelly was nice, kind and genuine and everything that Marcus deserved but she wasn't you and you despised her for that reason and that reason only. Was it so wrong to want the father of your child to love you back? To want to be a proper family.
Stupid pregnancy hormones.
“How are we all today.” Asked the doctor as she walked in, oozing positivity, that you wished didn't disgust you, and you both gave her a sharp ‘okay’ as she settled in the chair beside your bed “Great well let's take a look and see how the little one's doing shall we?”
You shivered when she squirted the jelly on your stomach, chuckling at the grin she gave you as she mouthed sorry at you and your distaste melted away. Marcus simply stood at your side with his eyes fixed on the monitor, unable to look directly at you. The probe was placed on your swell and she began to move it around, finding the little life inside you almost instantly and the room erupted into the sweet song that was your child’s heartbeat.
“Looking good.” The doctor announced, quickly blurting out some measurements to you both “Do you want to know the sex?”
“Well, I do.” You declared, glancing up at Marcus who was staring at the monitor with wide eyes “Marcus?”
You calling his name snapped him out of his reverie, giving you a slight nod before looking at the doctor as she started to manoeuvre the probe again.
“Well.” She started as she turned the screen “Congratulations both, you’re having a boy.” She beamed, grinning at you both as she watched the news sink in.
“A boy?” You squealed, unable to hide your excitement as you grabbed Marcus’ hand and gazed up at him “Marcus, we’re having a boy.”
At that moment nothing else mattered. All that anger and hurt had disappeared like a puff of smoke and was replaced with love and adoration. He looked down at you sweetly, smiling as he let out a choked sob and without even thinking about it he placed a soft kiss on your lips. Resting his forehead against yours and eyes locked, the two of you revelled in the moment. It struck him suddenly. How right this all felt and so he kissed you again, smiling against your lips when you let out a surprised gasp before letting out a breathy chuckle.
“Would you like me to make you guys a DVD?” Asked the doctor, smiling at the scene that unfolded in front of her.
“Yeah.” You nodded, glancing at her before looking back at Marcus who was now looking at you with a conflicted expression.
“Great, it’ll be available along with the prints at the front desk.” She declared as she started to clean up the gel, giving you both a kind smile as you hopped off the bed and grabbed your things.
You both left the room in silence. A little unsure of how to approach what had just happened between the two of you. You grabbed the pictures and DVD from the desk, made your way to his truck and left, driving in silence again. When you parked up at the office the two of your sat there in tense silence, your combined breathing being the only sounds for quite some time. When you finally decided that it was time to leave, he grabbed your hand as you turned to get out and your head shot up, seeing him staring at you with his signature sad eyes that could always stop you dead in your tracks.
“I’m uh…” He paused as he tried to arrange his words carefully "About earlier-"
“Marcus it’s fine.” You assured him, mistaking his demeanour for one of regret “We got caught up in the moment. I get it.”
“No, I-.”
“Please. I just want to forget about it.” You groaned and Marcus couldn’t hide the hurt that flashed across his features.
“Right.” He replied, nodding as he let go of your hand “Of course. I understand.”
“And what I said earlier about me not wanting you to date Kelly.” You continued as you pulled the lever to open the door “It bothers me but it’s your life.” You paused, giving him a sad smile “I’ll just have to live with it. I mean... I just need to know that you'll be there when I need you.” He nodded, unable to say anything and you gave him a weak smile.
With that you left, the noise of the door closing behind you making Marcus wince as he sat there staring off after you. He’d wanted to tell you that he was going to break up with Kelly… and that he wanted to take you out on a date, see if maybe there was something there. Kissing you at the scan had felt so natural. So right… and it scared him because he’d come to the realisation that he’d been completely blind to what was right in front of him the whole time. You'd been there since the beginning with a smile on your face and laughter in your heart. You'd held him up when he'd been at his lowest and had never expected anything in return. You were perfect and he was an idiot because he had no chance now.
He liked Kelly. He liked her a lot but kissing her never had that effect on him. His lips were still tingling and his heart racing but slowly, his body began to numb as your words repeated over and over in his mind.
I just want to forget about it
He never knew how much words could hurt until that very moment.

Just Friends - Part 4
Masterlist
Summary: You and Marcus shared something in common. You were unlucky in love. You’re the office manager for his department and he's your boss but after one fateful evening, your lives are to be entwined forever.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Angst, Childbirth Complications, Mentions of blood.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Knocking on Marcus’ office door, you couldn’t help but focus on your hearth pounding in your throat as you awaited his reply. Upon hearing it you pushed the door open gingerly, mentally going over everything you wanted to say to him in your head as you stepped inside. You’d been mortified the day after your evening with him, guilt swallowing you whole as you came to the realisation that you had monumentally overreacted. You had laid there in your bed that night, going over everything that had happened and the realisation had hit you like a train. He hadn't rejected you. He'd been trying to protect you.
“Hi.” You said awkwardly as came to a stop across from him, heart fluttering when his head shot up and his eyes softened at your presence.
“Hey.” He replied, pushing himself to his feet “Look about the other night, I’m sorry… I was a complete idiot and-”
“It’s me who should be apologising.” You interrupted, holding a hand up to silence him “I uh… Well, my insecurities got the better of me and well… I shouldn’t be sleeping with anyone right now. My libido got the better of me. You were right to turn me down, it would have been a mistake.”
“Oh,” Marcus replied, his face falling a little as he sat back down into his desk chair.
“I’m not saying I didn’t want to.” Your heart broke at the sight of him, like a boy whose puppy had just gotten kicked “Trust me I wanted to but perhaps dating isn't what I should be focusing on right now.”
“No… right.” He piped up “I understand.”
“I’m sorry again.” You choked, unable to stay another moment in his heavy presence “Sorry.” You muttered out anew before blundering out of his office and leaving a sorry looking sight in your wake.
Marcus couldn’t help but feel tears prick at his eyes as he felt his hope disappear like smoke in the wind. He’d dared to think that you’d come to tell him that you wanted to try again. Date 2.0 but no, you wanted nothing to do with him romantically and he blamed himself for that. He was the one who’d gotten you both into this situation in the first place and now he was paying the price for that.
Meanwhile, you were sobbing in the toilets, Marcus’ hurt expression burning into your mind and you started to wonder if you’d made the right call. Was breaking any sort of romantic relationship with Marcus off the right thing to do? You knew it was but your heart was throwing you through a loop. He was the father of your child, would it be so bad to see if things could work? You knew you needed to stand by your decision, you were in no sound mind to be making big life decisions right now. You needed to focus on him.
The life growing inside of you.
~
2 months later…
You felt huge. Your bump now very prominent and at 7 months pregnant you were starting to feel the weight of what that meant. Your back ached, your feet had swollen and you’d not slept properly in days.
You’d expected all this, researching what to expect as each month of your pregnancy went on but it hadn’t made it any easier to deal with as each new symptom reared its ugly head. Working became increasingly more difficult, your bump making it almost impossible to sit behind a desk comfortably and no position seemed to bring you any satisfaction. So when they’d started, you should have expected them but instead, you’d panicked. They weren’t supposed to hurt this much, were they?
Marcus could hear the commotion outside and swiftly made his way out of his office, only to find you bent over your desk panting as each contraction rippled through you. He was at your side in a heartbeat, rubbing your back as he desperately tried to keep himself from panicking.
“What’s the matter?” He urged, pinching your chin and turning your head to look at him.
“We think it's Braxton Hicks contractions but she’s pretty uncomfortable so I think she should go to the hospital just in case.” Piped up Sharon and Marcus didn’t hesitate “I won’t be available for my meetings this afternoon.” He told her before leading you out of the office and to his car in the car park beneath the building, gently helping you inside.
…
You weren’t back to the office that day, ordered by the doctor to rest for the remainder of it. They’d done a few checks and had been happy with the baby’s progress. The contractions had stopped a short while after and you’d been glad of it but more so because you’d been terrified. The closer to the due date you got, the more scared you became of what giving birth was going to be like. You weren’t sure you were ready for what came next but you knew you didn’t have a choice now. Too late to turn back.
“Right if you’re comfortable, I’ll get going.” Said Marcus as he placed a mug of hot tea on the table beside you.
“Oh okay.” You replied, feeling a little dejected at the idea of him leaving.
“I’m sure you want your alone time.” He jested and you gave him a weak smile but it didn’t reach your eyes.
He noticed.
“I can stay if you want?” He said softly and your eyes lit up at that, nodding as you shifted so there was space for him to sit beside you.
“You’re son’s very active this evening.” You grinned at him as you rested your hands on your bump “What to feel?”
He nodded eagerly, shifting closer as he placed his large hands over your swollen belly, chuckling when he felt his son kick. He revelled at the moment, savouring the closeness he was sharing with you and the beauty of what was happening. Inside you, dancing a jig, was his son. The life that you and he had created together in a night of passion and although it had not led to what you both now so desperately craved from each other, neither would act upon those wants for fear of rejection. So nothing happened, the same way nothing happened every other evening he spent with you then in the weeks that followed.
Weeks turned into months and before you knew it you were staring down the barrel of your due date and you were terrified. Work had been your one distraction and now as you sat in your kitchen, sipping on some camomile tea as you stared at the calendar across from you, you cured that bold circle. The date that was supposed to be the day your baby boy would make his entry into this world.
Only... He had other ideas.
Your waters broke that morning but you hadn't had any contractions yet, so you rang Marcus, told him what had happened and now you waited for the Inevitable to happen. You'd come across a blog and knew you needed to eat and drink something before so you’d made yourself a sandwich which you’d almost had to force down your throat and finished with the tea you now supped. You’d not felt like any of it but you needed your strength.
“Has it started yet?” Asked Marcus as he practically launched himself through your front door, face red and flustered and you had to stifle a giggle at his bedraggled state.
“Not yet.” You returned, smiling at him sweetly “Kettle's boiled if you want to make yourself some tea or a coffee.”
“Oh… um yeah, thanks.” He replied after a few moments, eyes still a little wild as the gravity of the situation started to settle a little “Will the baby be okay?” He asked as grabbed the items he needed to make himself a coffee “I mean he’s almost 2 weeks early.”
“I called my OBGYN and she said he should be fine. He’s only 10 days early so…”
“She’s sure?” Marcus asked and you chuckled at his concern.
“She’s sure.” You nodded as you watched him sit on the chair across from yours, taking his shaking hand in yours “Everythings going to be okay.”
Little did you know how wrong you were.
…
The birth was troublesome.
He ended up the wrong way around which had made things that much more difficult for you. You’d been terrified at the thought of them having to use forceps but when the moment came you hadn’t cared anymore. You just wanted him delivered safe and sound. Marcus sobbed the moment he’d seen his son's head, quickly sprinting to your side and giving you words of encouragement as you made those last few pushes that birthed your son into the world.
“You did it, sweetheart.” He cooed, stroking away the hair that stuck to your sweat-slick brow “He’s here and he’s perfect.” Marcus sobbed, relishing the sound of his son's cries.
“I did it?” You asked weakly, eyes already starting to droop.
“You did it.” He confirmed and you smiled at him sweetly before alarms started to blare and your eyes rolled back in your skull.
“What’s happening?” Begged Marcus, his eyes growing wide as he was pulled from your side “Please someone tell me what's wrong.”
But no one answered him.
He was taken outside so the doctors could work, led to a small waiting room down the hall and forced to anticipate news of your condition. He waited for hours, watching the clock on the wall flicker as each minute slipped by. Eventually, a nurse came in, giving him a small smile as he stood and hoped for news of you.
“If you’d like to see your son, I can take you to him.” She said and Marcus’ heart sank a little.
Your name fell from his lips like a prayer as he tried to pull himself together “Do you… have you got any news?” He pushed, scraping a hand over his face to wipe away his fresh tears.
“She’s in surgery.” She replied, giving him a sympathetic look as he dropped back into his chair “She’s suffered a Postpartum Haemorrhage. I can’t tell you any more than they’re doing everything they can to help her.”
“I think I should wait till she’s out of surgery to see him.” He said, staring numbly at the wall across from him 'We should meet him together."
“That could be hours Mr Pike.”
“I’ll wait.”
~
“Mr Pike?” Came a voice, pulling the agent from his thoughts and he looked up to see your doctor stood across from him.
“How is she?”
“Stable.” He replied, giving him a brief nod “She suffered a Postpartum Haemorrhage. Basically, she couldn’t stop bleeding.” He paused so Marcus could process this information “We managed to repair the tear that caused the bleed and she’s doing better.”
“Okay.”
“But Mr Pike, I must warn you. She lost a lot of blood.” He stated sternly and Marcus looked at him with a worried expression “We lost her on the table twice. She’s very weak and she’d going to need a lot of help until she gets back on her feet.”
“I will do whatever it takes.” Marcus assured, “When can I see her?”
“Soon. She’s still in recovery.” He replied and the agent nodded “Someone will fetch you when she’d been moved.”
"Thank you." Marcus said, giving the doctor a nod "Thank you for everything."
…
He sat and he waited diligently at your side for you to wake. Holding your hand tightly as he placed soft kisses on each knuckle and finger. Never in his life had he been so scared. He’d never considered that something could have gone wrong, that he could lose you or his son. The nurses had kept asking him if he wanted to see the baby and he kept declining. He needed to wait till you were awake and then and only then would he allow himself to lay eyes on the greatest gift he’d ever been given.
Your eyes cracked open slowly. Your head was pounding and every muscle in your body ached. You felt something squeeze your hand and you turned your head to seek out where the pressure had come from. You were greeted by the sight of Marcus smiling back at you, tears streaming down his face as he watched you surface.
“Hey, you.” He said softly, kissing the back of your hand as he let out a shaky breath.
“Hey.” You managed to croak out, giving him a smile in return “Why are you crying?”
“Because I almost lost you.” He sobbed, unable to hold back the emotions he’d bottled inside over the last twelve hours.
“Did you?” You asked, brow furrowed as you studied his features carefully.
“Yes, but you came back to me.” He sobbed, his free hand now stroking your hair affectionately “And I’m never letting you go again.”

Summary: You and Marcus shared something in common. You were unlucky in love. You’re the office manager for his department and he’s your boss but after one fateful evening, your lives are to be entwined forever.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: A little angst, descriptions of Sex (Nothing explicit)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
"You both ready to meet your son?" Asked a nurse as she pushed the clear cot into the room.
"Yes."
"Definitely."
You both spoke in unison, giggling as you shared a glance before you watched the nurse and she brought your son to you. He was wearing the elephant baby-grow you'd bought him and a cream hat with little round ears that Marcus had got. He lay there peaceful, eyes scanning his new surroundings as his little legs kicked and his arms stretched out as if to grab anything he set eyes on.
"I'll give you both some time." The nurse said sweetly before leaving the two of you alone to enjoy your son.
"Shit, he's perfect." Choked Marcus as he gazed down at the tiny infant.
"Pick him up." You said, desperate to get a better look "I wanna hold him."
Marcus scooped his son into his arms and his heart soared, unable to hold back his tears as he carried him over to you and placed him in your arms. He watched you for a moment as you gazed down at the life you'd grown inside of you. It was at that moment that he realised.
He was in love with you.
"What shall we call him?" You asked, "We never did agree on a name."
"You choose." He said and you rolled your eyes as you looked up at him.
"He's your son too Marcus."
"Okay, um..." He paused for a moment as he considered the names he liked "Tommy?"
"Is our son a Birmingham gangster?" You teased and laughed "How about James?"
'I have an Uncle called James. Guys a racist alcoholic."
"No on James then."
"What about Noah?"
This name made you pause. Looking down at the little boy in your arms you smiled as you considered it.
"Noah." You said and he opened his eyes and blinked at you "I think he likes it." You said sweetly as you looked up at Marcus again.
"I think he does."
"Hi, Noah." You said sweetly as you gently bounced the baby in your arms "We're your mum and dad and we are so happy to meet you."
~
2 weeks later...
Marcus had quickly taken to fatherhood. You were still off of your feet which meant it was down to him to cook, clean and keep little Noah changed and entertained. He thrived, loving the domesticity that came from it all. You did what you could but you'd been told that it could take around 6 weeks for you to feel yourself again so you were patient with yourself.
"Someones a hungry boy." Said Marcus as he sat down on the couch beside you, eyes on his boy as he suckled at your breast "That still feel weird?"
"I don't know." You shrugged as you smiled up at him "I kinda love it now. Don't love how sore my nipples are but watching him, its the most incredible feeling."
"I don't think I'll ever get tired of this." He said as he scooted closer to you, throwing his arm around your shoulders as he watched Noah eat.
"Mmm, me neither." You grinned, resting your head against the agent's as your eyes returned to your son "When do you have to go back?"
"They gave me 4 weeks." He stated, "I'm hoping you'll be feeling a little stronger by the time I got back but I can always use some leave."
"Marcus, you don't have to do that." You said, feeling a little guilty that he was having to wait on you hand and foot.
"There is nothing to apologise for." He said, smiling sweetly at you "You gave me him, almost at the cost of your own life. I want to help. I want to be here." He finished, the two of you gazing at each other as your hearts started to race.
Noah's little cough pulled you out of the moment and you looked down to see that he had finished. Balancing him on your lap with his face clasped between your thumb and forefinger you started to pat and rub at his back, praising him as he let out a few little burbs
"That's my boy." Said Marcus sweetly, taking his son from you so that he can put him down for his nap.
You watched as he left, your heart skipping a beat as you thought about the moment you and he had just shared. You'd moved into his apartment when you'd been released from the hospital. He had three bedrooms, one he'd already set up as a nursery upon learning he was having a baby. In the days leading up to your release, he'd gotten the spare room set up for you, getting Sharon to help him with your clothes. You'd been a little unsure about it initially but after two weeks you'd realised that this could work. Certainly whilst Noah was only little but as time had gone on, and you'd watched Marcus with him something had stirred in you. Your feelings had never left but you'd turned yourself off from them, refusing to allow yourself to feel anything for him. Now... Now you wonder if things could be different.
No, maybe it was time for you both.
You knew you needed to focus on yourself for the time being. You needed to focus on getting better and stronger but perhaps soon, you might be able to consider more with Marcus.
~
3 months later...
Things with Marcus has been going so well. The two of you continued to have these little moments that made your heart flutter just thinking about them. He'd returned to work, leaving you with Noah during the day and despite loving your time with your baby, you missed Marcus something terrible. You'd grown used to having him around. How he'd sing along to the radio as he made breakfast or even when he cooked dinner. He loved to dance, often bopping along with Noah in his arms as he made you a cup of tea or prepared his bottle. You'd started pumping as well as breastfeeding, giving Marcus the chance to feed his son as well and it had just made you fall for him more, the first time you'd watched him. Sat there, chatting away to his little boy like no one was watching. It seemed like nothing could burst this perfect little bubble the two of you had made together.
Then they arrived.
Theresa Lisbon. The woman who'd broken his heart and Patrick Jane, the architect of his pain. They were only there to assist on a case but it seemed that no matter how hard he tried, Marcus couldn't seem to avoid them. He became more and more on edge, leading to small little arguments and slowly you started to think that this wasn't working anymore. You'd even started to contemplate moving back to your apartment before he threw a bombshell on you. So that's how dinner had come about.
You were busy in the kitchen, prepping the salad along with anything else that was required for the evening meal when the bell rang. You quickly sprinted to answer it and swiftly opening the door to reveal a brunette woman, slightly shorter than you, and a blonde man with piercing blue eyes and a smile to die for.
"You must be Theresa and Patrick, come on it." You said as you ushered them inside "Please take a seat, would you like some wine?" You asked as you motioned to the couch."
"Please." The two of them said in unison and you quickly skipped to the kitchen. glad for a moment away.
Theresa sat, taking in her surroundings and recognising that Marcus still had much of the original furniture he'd had in Texas but now he had more photos, pot plants also dotted around. Jane took a seat beside Lisbon, placing a comforting hand on hers as she looked towards the hall where Marcus was now emerging. Noah in his arms.
"Marcus." She said suddenly, eyes widening at the sight of the baby "You have a baby."
"That I do." He replied proudly, walking closer to the couple so he could perch on the couch and turn his son to face them "This is Noah."
Theresa's throat tightened at the sight of his child. The infant already had his father's eyes and chocolate curls but she could see your features in him too. The two of you combined had created one of the prettiest babies she'd ever set her eyes on and for a moment she wondered what their child might have looked like. If she'd chosen him.
"Would you like to hold him?" He asked sweetly, noticing Theresa stare and she looked up at him shocked a moment before smiling and nodding.
He gently handed her the child and her heart fluttered as Noah smiled up at her, his tiny hand grabbing at her hair as he wiggled a giggled in her arms.
"He's beautiful Marcus." Said Jane as he looked at the male agent "I remember when my daughter was that small." He smiled but it was a little sad and Marcus' heart ached for the man. Despite all he'd done, he couldn't hate the man. He'd lost more than him.
"Thank you, Patrick." He replied, giving the man a nod before his eyes drifted to you, carrying a tray of drinks over to everyone "Sweetheart you should have said you needed help."
"I'm fine Marc." You replied, smiling sweetly at him before handing out the glasses "Dinner will be ready in around ten minutes."
"It smells delicious." Said Theresa as she looked up from Noah "Thank you so much for having us."
"It's quite alright." You replied, taking a seat beside Marcus and smiling as you watched your son grab at her hair "He's obsessed with hair at the moment." You chuckled "Don't be surprised if yours ends up crusty from where he's sucked on it."
"How did you two get together?" She asked sweetly and suddenly you were both shifting awkwardly in your seat.
"You aren't together are you?" Asked Jane and your face flushed in embarrassment "Let me guess... he's the result of one too many drinks?"
"Uh, yeah." You replied, heart, tightening a little in your chest "But we're both happy to co-parent. We were good friends before so..."
"Why aren't you together?"
"What?" Marcus asked, a little taken aback by the blondes bluntness.
"Well, it's clear that you're in love with each other." He states and the two of you shared an awkward look "You share a beautiful baby together, surely that's the best reason one can have to try?"
"It's more complicated than that. There are issues we need to work out if we-"
"Life is too short to look for excuses why not to do something." He interrupted and you stared at him slackjawed "I would give anything to see my wife and daughter for just one more minute. You two have each other, you have Noah and that's beautiful. If there are things that need to be said then say them." He paused, glancing lovingly at Theresa at his side "But just don't waste time waiting for something else or somebody to make that decision for you."
You both looked at each other a moment before returning your attention to your guests, giving them both a genuine smile. Dinner went pretty smoothly after that. Conversation flowed and apologies were made for past hurts. When the two of them left, you checked on Noah to make sure he was down for the night and you then made your way to the lounge. Marcus was deep in thought when you got there, his eyes focused on a photo of you holding Noah in your hospital bed.
"Everything okay?" You asked as you took a seat beside him.
"What are we doing?" His question took you by surprise, you shot back as your stomach doing somersaults.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean us... this." He motioned around with his finger as he finally turned his head to look at you "What Patrick said earlier made a lot of sense."
"Patrick is good at getting into peoples heads."
"You know his wife and daughter we murdered?" This statement took you by surprise, you hadn't known that "He found them slaughtered in their beds and then devoted years of his life to the CBI to help track down their killer. So I think the things he said to us... That wasn't about getting into our heads. I think that's the most honest he's ever been with me and I can't help but think he's right."
"Do you love me?" You pipped up and he gave you a bemused look "Patrick said that it's clear we're in love with each other." You clarified, tilting your head to one side you continued "So do you love me?"
"Yes."
That single word set a flurry of actions into motion. Before you knew it you were straddling his lap, kissing him deeply as his hands gripped your hips and urged them to move. You can't remember how, or when clothes were removed but as you lay there bare for him on his couch. Chest heaving and flushed with arousal. Marcus knew that there was no one else he'd rather see looking up at him the way you were.
He went slow. Working you open with his fingers before finally gifting you with his length. It stung. Something you'd known to expect from the books you'd read but he was patient. Allowed you time to adjust to him before you urged him to move and with each thrust of his hips, the pain disappeared and was replaced with pure, unadulterated, pleasure. It went on for what felt like hours and at the end of it, you lay there in each other's arms glistening in sweat and completely sated.
"I love you too." You said after a few minutes of silence, moving your head to look up at him and smiling sweetly at the adoration you saw in his eyes for you.
"I don't want to mess this up again." He said, his brow furrowing as he became serious "I want to make this work. So we can take this as fast or as slow as you want." He paused to stroke a lock of hair behind your ear "But know that I want to marry you... and if you've not been put off completely. I want to make more babies with you."
Placing your fingers over his lips to silence him, you smile, letting a few happy tears fall as you prepared yourself to say your piece.
"I think we are a little late for slow Marcus Pike." You chuckled, placing a kiss on his pectoral before continuing "I want to marry you too." He grinned at that "And, after a small break, I too want to have another baby with you. I want it all.
"Well in that case." He said, pushing himself into a sitting position as he practically purred your name "Will you marry me?"

Just Friends - Part 3
Masterlist
Summary: You and Marcus shared something in common. You were unlucky in love. You’re the office manager for his department and he's your boss but after one fateful evening, your lives are to be entwined forever.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Angst, Some Kissing.
Part 1, Part 2
You jumped when two palms slapped down on the surface of your wooden desk. You noted they were a woman's hands and as your eyes followed them up, you were met with the angry glare of Kelly as her nostrils flared at you. Her eyes were red from crying and her makeup was ruined.
“Who the fuck are you to dictate who Marcus can date?” She growled and you gave her a bemused look.
“Excuse me?”
“Well, he broke up with me so I can only assume that it’s because of you.” She snarled, “He doesn’t care like you, why can’t you just let him be happy with someone he actually wants to be with?”
“Kelly look, I had nothing to do with him breaking up with you.” You answered defensively “He’s probably confused. He kissed me at the scan yesterday and-“
“He kissed you?” She screeched, voice cracking as tears started to wobble on her bottom lid.
“Yes, but he was caught up in the moment.” You defended “We’d learned we were having a boy and I don’t know what came over him but…”
“I’ve heard enough.” She snapped, tears falling freely now “I get that you two are having a baby together and that's great but I really thought that he was it for me.” She sniffed, wiping her cheeks with her long fingers “I also thought you were better than this.”
“Better than what?” You shrieked “He kissed me!”
She didn’t elaborate, just stormed out of the office leaving a trail of curious eyes in her wake. That’s not how you’d expected your morning to start. Marcus had broken up with her? Why? Was it because of what you’d said to him yesterday? You turned your head towards his office, noting he was inside with his head in a case file so you gingerly pushed yourself to your feet and made your way over. Knocking three times you shouldered the door open when he said to enter and you were greeted by a tired, miserable-looking man.
“Can we talk a sec?” You asked and he gave you a brief nod before closing the folder and placing it down in front of him “Why did you break up with Kelly?” You asked as you lowered yourself into one of the chairs across from him.
“I didn’t see a future for us.” He replied and you rolled your eyes “What?”
“The truth Marcus.” You groaned “You’re a terrible liar. It’s one of the things I love about you.” You snickered.
“There.” He expelled making you jump “There that’s why.”
“What?”
“You told me yesterday that you love me.” He continued “I haven't been able to stop thinking about it… And when I kissed your yesterday it-“
“We got caught up in the moment Marcus it meant-“
“Will you shut up and let me talk.” He barked, taking you by surprise “I’m trying to tell you that that kiss meant a lot to me. I… I kissed you because at that moment it felt right. I wanted to. Was nothing to do with finding out about the sex. It felt so right and then suddenly I realised everything I’d been blind to all this time.”
“What are you saying, Marcus?”
“I’m saying that I want to take you out to dinner.” He answered, smiling at you “I want to court you. See if there's something here. Not because we’re having a baby together but because I think you're amazing and I genuinely believe that we could be amazing together.”
“Marcus you don’t need to do this.”
“No, I don’t.” He replied and you were startled “I want to.”
You sat there open-mouthed, unable to form a response as he grinned back at you.
“What are you doing tonight?” You shook your head, still unable to mould the words “Then if you’re free, would you like to go out to dinner with me this evening?”
“Yes.” You choked, happy tears slipping down your cheeks as everything you’d ever wanted to hear rattled around in your baby muddled brain.
“Great.” He exclaimed “I’ll pick make a reservation. Pick you up at 7?”
You nodded excitedly, rubbing your bump with one hand as you pushed yourself to your feet with the other.
“See you then.”
You paused by the door, looking over your shoulder at him as he watched you intently.
"Court me?" You asked and he nodded "You're such a dork." You teased and he grinned at you.
…
“GAH!!” You growled, frustrated tears ruining your perfectly applied makeup.
Three knocks at your door pulled you from your current predicament and you sobbed harder as you looked at the clock. Knowing exactly who it is you stomped over to the door and opened it before stalking back to the bedroom to continue your breakdown.
“Everything okay?” He asked, following you.
“No Marcus.” You snapped “Everything is not okay. I can’t fit into anything. I now look like a panda and I…” You trailed off as your tears started to fall again and he pulled you into a warm hug.
“You don’t need to dress up for me.” He said sweetly.
“No Marcus you don’t understand.” You sobbed “Nothing fits. All I have is the stuff I got for work and my oversized loungewear, none of that is nice.”
“Hey… I can cancel the reservation if you want? We can just order in, watch a movie, talk. Whatever you want to do.”
“Really?” You asked, eyes growing wide as you looked up at him.
“Really.” He replied, placing a kiss on your forehead as you sunk into him again “Anything, in particular, you fancy?”
“OOOOOOOO I could kill for Pho.”
“Pho?” Marcus asked, brows drawn together as he looked at you both confused and amused.
“You don’t know what Pho is?” Marcus shook his head “Oh my god Marcus it’s the best! It’s a little like Ramen only better.”
“Pho it is then.” He chuckled as you practically bounced on your toes “Why don’t you get into something comfy and then we’ll order some and slouch on the couch?”
…
You chuckled as you watched Marcus attempt to eat the Vietnamese noodle soup. He was out of his depth but it made him smile to see how happy and content you now were, sat there in your oversized sweater and leggings. He hadn't been able to miss the sight of your growing bump and it had ignited something inside of him that he didn't even know existed. He's wanted to tear off your clothes and worship you but he also wanted to do right by you. The evening was going well, the conversation was flowing and the two of you were clicking. He really didn't want to mess this up by diving in too fast. Finally when the food was eaten, you both settled on the couch to watch a movie, you’d begged him to let you watch Brigit Jones when he’d been scrolling and he agreed without hesitation, pulling the throw on the couch over the both of you as you snuggled up to watch.
“Wait isn’t Mr Darcy a character from Pride and Prejudice?” He piped up, his fingers delicately drawing shapes on your shoulder.
“Well yeah, but this guy’s got the same name. Well, same last name. Not sure the other Darcy's name was Mark.” You replied, giggling with him.
“But didn’t this guy play Mr Darcy in a tv adaptation from the UK?” He pushed and you turned your head to look at him.
“Marcus Pike are you a Jane Austin fan?” You teased and he shrugged, cheeks going a little pink.
“I love classics and she was well ahead of her time as a writer.” He defended and you chuckled “A guy can like that stuff too!”
“Oh completely!" You agreed, grinning at him shyly "I think it’s sexy that you like all that stuff.” You replied, trapping your bottom lip between your teeth "Nothing more attractive than a man in touch with his feelings."
“Oh really?” He asked as he leaned in, placing a soft kiss on your lips.
“Mhmm.” You hummed, turning your whole body so you could deepen the kiss and your core started to throb as your arousal grew.
The kiss got heated quickly, tongues fighting for dominance as the two of your swallowed each other's pleasured moans. Your hands travelling up to his shirt, fingers splaying across the soft material before you grew a little bolder and with nimble fingers, you began unfastening the buttons of his shirt. Ripping it open, you revealed his perfect, golden, skin and your mouth practically salivated at the sight as you began to lay open-mouthed kissed along his pecks and down his chest, smiling when he groaned at your attentions. You could feel his want for you growing and your core ached, you wanted him now more than you ever had before.
“Wait… Sweetheart wait.” Marcus shifted, grabbing your shoulders so he could hold you at arm's length "Let's just press pause there for a moment." He suggested as his chest heaved and cheeks flushed, eyes locked with yours.
“What's the matter?” You asked, concerned that you’d done something wrong already starting to consume you "Was I doing something you didn't like or?"
"No." He replied, shaking his head "Nothing like that. That was all good."
"Then what's wrong?" You asked, your insecurities starting to get the better of you.
“I just don’t think we should.” He replied and your stomach sank.
“You don’t want me?” You sobbed, desperately trying to blink back the tears that threatened to fall.
“No… no that’s not it. I just… I don’t want to rush into anything.” He replied and you couldn’t help but scoff.
“Bit late for that don’t you think?” You asked as you pointed at your swollen belly before running your hands up his jeans-clad thighs and up to the waistband “Please.” You pleaded as you leaned in and kissed him again, one hand tangling in his hair as the other palmed his growing erection. He tasted like the soup you'd eaten and the beer he'd drank and you found yourself craving more, straddling his lap you started to grind against him. Desperate for some friction to relieve your aching sex.
“No wait… stop.” He snapped as he pushed you away “I don’t want you.” He instantly regretted his choice of words the moment they fell from his lips and you leapt from the couch and sprinted down the hall “No wait.” He called after you as he chased after you “I didn’t mean-“
“Get out Marcus.” You sobbed as you slammed the door in his face and his stomach twisted painfully.
“I just meant.”
“Get out!” You growled again, desperation filling your tone.
He let his forehead rest against the cool painted wood of your bedroom door for a moment, closing his eyes as he internally scorned himself for his idiotic selection of words. He did want you. He wanted you a lot but he didn’t want to jump straight into bed with you. He wanted to do this right. Wine and dine you so to speak but without the wine. Take you on romantic walks, hold your hand as you gazed up at the stars. He wanted to do this right but he seemed to fuck up at every turn. He could hear you sobbing from within and he felt the urge to just walk in there and hold you. He just needed you to understand. He just needed to make you realise that he was just trying to do the right thing.
“Please just let me explain. That came out wrong.” He pleaded and he allowed himself a moment of hope when you opened the door.
“Get out of my house Marcus.” You spat, venom dripping from every word “I heard you loud and clear now get out of my fucking face.”
He jumped back when the door slammed again, his own tears falling as he walked back into the lounge to grab his stuff before leaving. Hating how he couldn’t seem to get this right.
Why couldn’t he get this right?

Just Friends - Chapter 1
Masterlist
Summary: You and Marcus shared something in common. You were unlucky in love. You’re the office manager for his department and he's your boss but after one fateful evening, your lives are to be entwined forever.
Relationships: Marcus Pike x Reader
Warnings: Angst. Just pure angst. With some mentions of sex.
Marcus Pike was a good boss.
Sweet, kind, sensitive and certainly easy on the eyes.
You were little more than an office manager but whenever the team went out to celebrate closing a case he would always invite you. You never once felt like you were part of the team and Marcus ensured that, so that's how you ended up falling head over heels in love with him. How could you not? He was the perfect guy but not once had he ever looked at you in a way other than that of a friend. So you swallowed down your feelings and just enjoyed the friendship he gave you.
This particular case had been a tough one. Months of hard work and late nights when into getting it solved and so this particular celebration had been hard-earned which meant they’d gone big. You, fortunately, lived close to the bar they’d chosen, so the fact you were a little drunk didn't concern you all that much. The drinks continued to flow and the conversation got more and more personal as the evening went on, until you found yourself discussing relationships with none other than Agent Pike.
‘So how come you’re still single?’ He asked as he supped at his drink, eyes twinkling in the dim light of the bar.
‘I guess I just haven’t found the one yet.’ You shrugged ‘I’m in my thirties. I don't have time to waste on men that aren’t interested in anything other than dipping their wick. I want to get married, have children but you tell a guy that and they run a mile.’ You scoff, downing the last of your drink and motioning for another ‘One thing I do miss. Sex.’ You blurt out, a little shocked at how forward your admission is.
‘Really?’ He questioned, eyebrow quirking as he studied your flushed features.
‘Well, what I mean is… I uh… um.’ You can’t seem to find the words, your embarrassment getting the better of you.
‘It's been a while for me too.’ Stated Marcus as he gave your arm a friendly squeeze, his smile like a soothing balm to your burning cheeks.
‘Now that I find hard to believe.’ You chuckled, raising your voice a little so that he could hear you over the din on the bar.
‘Well, I haven’t really tried dating since Theresa.’ He confessed, taking another swig of his beer ‘But I think maybe I’m ready now.’ He stated, eyes fixed on you as you tried your hardest to calm your racing heart.
The conversation moved onto other subjects after that. Shared interests, travels, restaurants that Marcus needs to try and then as the others left, there was just the two of you. He offered to walk you home which you accepted and you then discussed, in-depth, how Star Wars was far superior to Star Trek but eventually you reached your door. You knew that the evening needed to end eventually but god help you, you didn't want it to. So when he kissed you, you didn’t hesitate to drag him inside. Clothes leaving a breadcrumb trail to your bedroom door and after hours of the best sex, you’d even had you fell asleep in his arms, feeling whole for the first time in years.
…
The bed beside you was cold when you woke the next morning. Slipping out and slipping on your silk gown you then padded to the kitchen where you found a note with Marcus’ neat handwriting-
Had to dash home to change before work.
Thanks for last night. I had a lot of fun!
Marcus
You smiled as you placed the note down and went about your morning ritual, excited for the day ahead. You were grateful for the lack of hangover when you slipped on your favourite blouse and some cigarette-style work pants that you knew flattered your behind. You were feeling a bloom of confidence as you grabbed your purse and made your way to the office. Nothing could ruin your mood today.
…
The office was full of groaning agents as they nursed their hangovers. Many throwing you glares when you walked in all chipper and headache-free but you weren’t going to let their misery dampen your day. You dropped your things by your desk, bid Marcus good morning and then went about making the team their coffees and soon you were the angel of the office again.
As the day went on your mood just seemed to soar and you felt your confidence run off of you in waves as you knocked on Marcus’ door, creeping inside when he said for you to enter. He smiled at you sweetly as you stood there and moment, figuring out how to approach the subject you’d come in to talk about.
‘Everything okay?’ He asked as he looked at you with a little concern but your smile soon washed that away.
‘Thank’s for leaving a note.’ You chuckled ‘Too many times I've woken to a cold bed and a heart full of regret.’
‘Was the polite thing to do.’ He replied, shrugging nonchalantly as he returned his attention to the form he’d been filling out.
‘I uh… I wondered if.’ You were nervous all of a sudden, fumbling for the words as he looked up at you with intrigue ‘Well I wondered if you wanted to go for a drink? Maybe dinner at one of those restaurants I mentioned?’
Marcus’ face fell a little and suddenly he felt like the worst person in the world. There you stood, all sweetness and here he sat with no interest at all.
‘I uh. I think you might have gotten the wrong impression.’ He said, stomach twisting a little as your smile morphed into confusion.
‘What do you mean?’
‘Last night was… Well for me it was two friends scratching an itch.’ He replied honestly, grimacing at the pained look that then filled your features ‘I uh. I don’t want to lead you on or anything. I just don’t see you that way.’
‘Lead me on?’ You scoff ‘You don’t want to lead me on? Well news flash, you kinda failed at that.’ You snapped, your hurt turning to pure anger ‘I thought you were different… Guess not.’ You growled before turning to leave.
‘I’m sorry.’ He piped up and you stopped in your tracks, glancing over your shoulder to see him looking at you with the appearance of a sad puppy.
‘Sure you are.’ You spat before pulling the door open and leaving.
Day ruined.
~
3 months later…
You were feeling terrible. Had been for the past week but you were a firm believer that unless you’re sent home, you are well enough to work. So you had soldiered through the headaches and nausea all week, desperate for the weekend so that you could curl up in a pitch-black room and sleep whatever this was off.
You and Marcus had spoken very little since he humiliated you all those months ago. You’d turned down the invitations to drinks, ignored his texts and notes, you wanted nothing to do with the man who’d used you. Unfortunately though today you had a meeting with him and a few other department heads. You were only there to take notes of course but it meant sitting in a room with him for two hours and that wasn’t something that appealed to you in the slightest but you had a job to do so you remained civil.
Setting up your notebook, you made a note of the attendees as they all took their seats, Marcus unfortunately beside you, and then started to note down the basics of what was being discussed, unable to avoid feeling Marcus’ eyes as he glanced at you occasionally. The first hour went slowly and almost painfully. You had been suffering particularly today so the air in the room felt stifling and close, leaving you claustrophobic at hot.
It hit you out of nowhere and you had to slam your hand on the table to steady you as you wavered in your seat, dizziness making the room start to spin.
‘Everything okay?’ Questioned the chair of the meeting as all eyes fell on.
‘Yeah, I uh… I just feel a little dizzy.’ You replied, taking a few steadying breaths.
‘Do you want to step out a moment for some air?’ the man questioned and you nodded as you stood, pausing a moment before taking but a few steps towards the door when the floor rushed up to meet you and everything when black.
…
You didn’t come back to work till the following Monday. A friend from another department had driven you to the walk-in clinic and had sat with you as you'd waited to be seen. The doctors had told you they were going to run a few tests and that you would receive the results by the end of the week. You'd received them on Friday and had been silent since.
Marcus had felt his stomach drop when you’d collapsed. He had been at your side in a moment, scooping you into his arms and carrying you to the break room where he'd laid you down on the couch and stroked your hair, waiting for you to come around. When you had, you'd pushed his hands away and moved into a sitting position, Marcus had then ordered you to take the week and see a doctor. Hoping that you’d be in better humour the following week.
But you weren’t.
The knock on his office door had taken Marcus by surprise but he’d been even more shocked when you’d been the one to enter. His stomach had dropped the moment he saw you. You were still pale, dressed in an oversized t-shirt and leggings with no plan, it appeared, of staying in the office.
‘I need to talk to you.’ You said as you gingerly stepped towards his desk.
‘Of course.’ He returned, getting up so he could pull out a chair for you and motioning for you to sit ‘Everything okay? How are you feeling?’
‘Terrible and no.’ Was your reply, his stomach twisting into knots even more ‘I went to the doctor and they ran some tests.’ You started and he nodded in understanding.
‘What is it? Are you sick?’ He inquired, heart racing in his chest when you started to sob.
‘No, I’m not sick.’ You replied, wiping your eyes with your sleeves.
‘Then what's wrong?’ He pushed, unsure he wanted to know what had gotten you so choked up.
‘I’m pregnant Marcus.’ You paused as you watched his eyes widen in shock ‘And it’s yours.’ You confirmed and remained silent so that he could assimilate what he'd been told.
He was silent a moment, processing what you had said before looking back at you. He could see the fear in your eyes and his heart broke for you. Three months ago you’d shared a night with a man you thought would lead to something, only to be rejected and now you were pregnant with his child. He would be terrified if roles were reversed.
‘How far along?’ He asked, noting that your stomach already seemed to have a small swell to it.
‘Seriously?’ You scoffed and he internally scorned himself for his choice of question.
‘Sorry.’ He replied, scrubbing a hand over his face as he let out an audible sigh ‘What do you want to do?’
‘I want to keep it if that’s what you are asking.’
‘No of course.’ He fumbled ‘I wouldn't want it any other way. I meant… what do you want from me?’
‘I don’t want anything from you Marcus.’ You growled, hurt still very much fresh ‘You have the right to know about the baby and you can be as involved as you want but I didn't come here because I expect anything from you.’
‘Right.’ Marcus replied, nodding before looking at your stomach ‘Well I think we should get married.’
‘What?’ It was your turn to look at him in shock, unable to believe that he'd just suggested what he had.
‘It's the right thing to do.’ He stated and you let out an exasperated groan.
‘You don’t love me, Marcus.’ You snapped, rubbing your tired eyes with the palms of your hands.
‘Love has nothing to do with this! We need to do what's right by the baby.’ His bemused expression only angered you more and you felt the need to scream.
‘So you want to marry someone that you aren’t even attracted to, just because you knocked her up and it's the right thing to do?’
‘Well I’m obviously attracted to you or I wouldn't have slept with you.’ He defended, a little offended that you'd assume such a thing.
‘HAH!’ You expelled and Marcus jumped at the sudden sound ‘Well thank you. I’m so touched that you at least find me attractive.’ You scoffed, rolling your eyes at him ‘I am not going to marry you, Marcus. I had feelings for you once but you crushed them and now I feel nothing for you.’
Your words stung more than Marcus had expected but he knew he deserved them. He’d used you, hurt you and he hated himself for it. He had gone over that night, again and again, coming to the realisation that not once had he worded that it was just a one-time thing. He’d flirted with you, complimented you and your response to his attention had been so plain to see but yet he’d missed it and ended up hurting you. Something he never wanted to do to anyone.
‘We will share a baby.’ You continued, dragging him from his thoughts and he nodded ‘That’s it.’ You closed before gathering your things ‘I’ve been advised by the doctor to rest for the next week so here's my sick note. I will see you next week.’
Then you left, and Marcus was left broken. This was not how he'd imagined it would be when he had a child. He imagined love and adoration. Not a broken him and a mother that hated him.
He’d really messed things up.

Warning/Content: Angst, Blood and Injury, Smut 18+
Paring: Marcus Pike/ Original Female Character
§
He woke up alone. The clean, clinical smell of a hospital assaulting his senses as he blinked a few times in an attempt to clear his mind a little. His eyes scanned his surroundings. He was in a private room. The door across from him had a clock hung above it that ticked obnoxiously loud despite the constant beep of the heart monitor beside him. There was a window to his left. The view little more than the familiar skyscrapers that occupied his day to day life. His mind wandered to Ada then and where she was… How she was. He shifted slightly in his bed and immediately regretted it, letting out a pained yell as a white-hot agony tore through his middle, rendering him limp in his uncomfortable hospital bed. A nurse sprinted into the room with a familiar face behind her, one that seemed to suck all of the air from his lungs. She was at his side in a heartbeat, taking his face in her hands as she checked him over whilst the nurse spoke words he couldn't hear.
‘Marcus?’ Her voice pulled him out of his reverie, blinking at her a few times before nodding ‘Are you in pain?’
He nodded again. His words escaped him as he stared into her green orbs, captivated by her gaze as she stroked circled on his cheek with her thumb. He knew the nurse must have done something as the pain started to ease but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from Ada any more than she could tear hers away from him.
‘I’ll leave you two to catch up.’ Said the nurse with a smile.
Ada let herself sit in the chair behind her, keeping Marcus’ hand in hers as she smiled up at him. A silence hung over them for a while as the duo carefully constructed what they were going to say to each other, the words dancing on their tongues as they formed on their lips.
‘How are you?’ Asked Marcus suddenly, taking Ada by surprise.
‘I should be asking you that.’ She chuckled, giving his hand a squeeze ‘You scared the crap out of me.’ She finished, the smile falling from her face as the memories of that day flooded back ‘I thought I was going to lose you. You’d lost so much blood and they wouldn’t let me…’
‘Shhh.’ He hushed, squeezing her hand and giving her a sweet smile ‘I’m okay. I’m right here.’
Ada smiled back at him but her heart still raced in her chest, the images assaulting her mind making her breathing quicken.
~
‘Marcus?’ She sobbed, shaking his shoulder lightly in an attempt to wake him ‘No... Stay with me.’
‘He dead?’ asked one of the masked men, kicking the agent’s leg with his heavy boot.
‘He needs a hospital now!’ She growled, looking at the man with a venomous expression ‘Please!! Let him go or he’s going to die.’
‘Now why would I let my leverage go.’ He chuckled, tilting his head to one side as he spoke ‘You best do all you can to stop him from clocking out before their time’s up.’
‘I’m a nurse!.’ Came a voice suddenly, pulling everyone’s attention to a woman in the corner ‘I can help him.’
‘Fine.’ Spat the man, motioning her to move with the barrel of his gun ‘But everyone else stays where they are!.’
The nurse quickly made her way to the duo’s side, taking in the state of the agent and sucking in a breath through barred teeth.
‘He’s lost a lot of blood.’ She stated, giving Ada a pained expression ‘Help me lay him down.’
The two women carefully adjusted the man’s position so he was laying down, the nurse removing her coat and rolling it up so she could place it under his head. She placed two shaky fingers on Marcus’ neck, her eyes travelling up to Ada who was watching her carefully.
‘His pulse is very weak.’ She stated, her face grim as her eyes drifted to the windows ‘They need to hurry up or he’s not going to make it much longer.’ She stated.
The phone started to ring then, making everyone just from their skin as the ringleader forcefully picked up the phone and answered it. Ada had zoned out due to the nurse's statement, her eyes fixed on Marcus whose skin had taken on a scary shade of white.
‘We will exit from the rear of the building.’ The man ordered, motioning for his companions to make their way to the back of the cafe ‘Once we’ve left you can come in and rescue the hostages.’ He finished, slamming the phone down on the counter and looking down at Ada ‘Look’s like they came through for your boyfriend after all.’
Then he was gone and the cafe became a flurry of activity. EMT’s dropped to her side as police worked on removing the hostages from the cafe safely. The nurse who had helped her started firing off some medical jargon that Ada didn’t understand. All she could do was watch as they tried to stabilise him, hooking him up to machines as a gurney was lined up beside him. Suddenly an alarm started blaring and Ada’s stomach dropped.
'What's happening?' She screamed, her stomach twisting in knots.
‘He’s crashing.’ said one EMT as the other grabbed a familiar-looking machine.
One cut away his clothes as the other pulled out the paddles and placed them onto his now bare chest, his body arching as they shocked him.
‘Nothing.’ one stated as he placed a mask over his nose and mouth and pumped the bag attached to it a few times.
Pulling away, the other medic shocked him again. The sight of Marcus’ body arching like that making Ada feel sick and she sobbed openly as she silently willed him to come back to her. Finally, the alarm changed its tune and they all breathed a sigh of relief, quickly manoeuvring him onto the gurney and pushing him out of the cafe to the waiting ambulance. They said nothing about Ada jumping in after him, sitting her on a seat to one side as one jumped in the cab and the other continued to pump air into the agent. This was not how Ada had expected to spend her day but she knew she’d couldn’t leave him. She couldn’t lose him.
~
‘You’re thinking about it.’ He accused, giving her hand a slight tug to bring her back to awareness.
‘Sorry, it’s just…’ Her tongue felt heaving in her mouth as she let her eyes lock with his, his brown orbs glittering in the artificial light ‘You died in front of me.’ She stated ‘I had to watch them shock you twice, it was horrible.’
‘Hey, I’m okay now.’ He replied.
‘Yeah but you weren’t.’ She snapped, instantly regretting her tone ‘When they finally let me see you again you had a tube down your throat breathing for you and they’d said you were in a coma. I was told that you’d suffered a lot of trauma and that it was going to be touch and go.’ She paused to take in a shaky breath ‘When they finally took you off the vent I sat and waited for you to wake up but you wouldn’t, no matter how much I talked your ear off. I thought I was going to lose you and it killed me.’
‘How long have I been here?’ He asked suddenly as he processed what she was telling him.
‘3 weeks.’ She replied, wiping her tears away with her free hand ‘You’ve been in a coma for 3 weeks.’ She sobbed then, looking around the room a little panicked ‘And you woke up alone.’
She balled at her statement, throwing her face into her hands as great sobs racked her body. Marcus watched her in shock a moment as he processed what she’d just said before letting his hand settle on her head, stroking her hair with his fingers and waited for her to let it all out.
‘Hey.’ He said finally, carding his digits through her hair ‘It’s going to be okay now okay.’
§
Marcus was discharged a few days later and Ada had made it her mission to care for him, sleeping on his couch and working from his lounge as well a caring for him. After a few more weeks he was cleared to go back to work but was limited to desk work until, something that had relieved Ada. Much to both their distaste she eventually went back home. She was glad of her office again, falling back into her old routine with ease but she found herself missing Marcus terribly. At night she was plagued with nightmares of his bloody form. His blood on her hands. She’d wake in a cold sweat, chest heaving and she would sob until she finally felt exhaustion get the better of her. She was working away when her phone buzzed on the tabletop making her leap out her skin. Picking it up she smiled when she saw Marcus’ name flashing on the screens.
‘To what do I owe this pleasure?’ She asked, grinning down the phone as she spoke.
‘Well, I wondered if you were free this evening’ He replied, his tone making her heart flutter.
‘I think I have some time.’
‘Well, I wondered if perhaps you would like to come for dinner this evening. I would love to cook for you as a thank you for everything.’
‘Marcus you don’t need to thank me.’ She replied, her voice wobbling a little.
‘No, but I want to.’ He replied ‘Shall we say 7?’
‘Sounds perfect. See you then.” She hung up and a large grin spread across her face ‘Shit what do I wear?’ she asked out loud, glancing at the time on her laptop. Only 4 hours to decide.
§
‘So where did you learn to cook like that?’ Ada asked as she sipped on her red wine, eyes fixed on Marcus as he smiled back at her.
‘My mum.’ he replied, collecting up the dishes and taking them over to the sink ‘She loved to cook and I loved to help her.’
‘I bet that your past girlfriends loved that.’ She joked, taking another sip.
‘Certainly helped.’ he replied with a chuckle, making his way back to the table and sitting down again ‘Thank you for taking care of me.’ He then said, changing the subject as he looked at her with a different expression ‘Not many girls would sleep on the couch of a man they’ve just met and nurse him back to health. You’re pretty amazing.’ He finished as he placed his large hand over hers.
‘So are you.’ She replied sweetly, her cheeks flushing at her statement.
‘Shall we go sit on the couch?’ He asked, motioning over his shoulder with his head but his gaze not leaving hers.
‘Yeah.’
Placing their glasses and the bottle down on the coffee table, they both sat, an awkward silence settling over them for a moment as neither one knew what to say. Ada felt a heat start to bloom in her belly as she looked him over. He wore a smart pair of jeans and a burnt orange shirt that complemented his golden skin tone perfectly and accentuated his muscular arms. She licked her lips at the sight. She wanted to kiss him, to feel his strong arms around her as she kissed and licked his neck and jaw. She wanted him. Scooting closer to him, they shared a heated stare. Marcus’ hand balled at his side as he fought the urge to pounce, unsure what Ada wanted but he didn’t have long to wait. She captured his lips in a heated kiss, fingers carding through his hair as her tongue traced the seam of his lips and moaning when he allowed her entry. His hands snaked around her waist, pulling her so that she was straddling his hips and his hands travelling up her shirt, leaving her breathless from the contact. Shaky fingers started to work at the buttons on his shirt as she kissed him hungrily, moaning in his mouth as his strong hands grabbed her ass and guided her hips as she started to grind against his growing arousal.
‘Are you sure?’ He breathed against her lips as he pulled away for a moment.
She just nodded, pulling open his shirt and over his shoulders, running her hands down his toned chest. He angled his hips a little giving her the delicious friction that she was craving and she could already feel herself edging towards her climax. Her jeans were unfastened in a heartbeat and his hand was cupping her sex, fingers toying with her entrance as he placed open mouth kisses down her neck.
‘Shit.’ She breathed as he pushed one thick finger into her heat, grinning against her skin at her reaction.
He planted his free hand on her back and flipped her onto her back, pushing a second digit in to join the other as he nibbled and licked her skin. When he curled his fingers and hit that spot she fell over the edge, back arching as she climaxed loudly. Her moans only made him more aroused and he quickly yanked down her jeans, taking her underwear with them.
‘Marcus I need you now.’ She breathed, pulling him close and devouring his lips.
He lined himself, teasing her a little before finally giving in to her begging and pushing in slow. She gasped a little as he stretched her out, the pain making her wince and Marcus pulled back a moment as his brow furrowed in concern.
‘Does it hurt?’
‘Just keep going.’ she breathed, hands grabbing his ass and urging him to move.
He did as he was told and filled her to the hilt, moaning at the tightness before placing soft kisses along her jaw. He stayed still for a moment, allowing her to adjust to his size before he started to rock his hips back and forth. His place started slowly as they shared sloppy kisses, Ada’s nails digging into the muscle of his back as he continuously hit that spot within that drove her closer and closer again. When she began begging him to move faster his upped his speed, knuckles going white as he gripped the arm of the couch for support. Ada’s second orgasm was intense, her whole body convulsed as he fucked her through it, praising her as she came down from her high. His own peak was not far behind and his hips stilled as he finished, kissing her sweetly as they panted in each other's arms.
‘We’re definitely doing that again this evening.’ She panted as she kissed his sweat-slick skin.
‘Definitely.’ he replied with a smile, killing her nose ‘But first… Desert!’
