To all the men i dedicate this poem
Oh, to Be a Man
Oh, to be a man in this world today,
Carrying burdens in a quiet display.
No tears to shed, no pain to tell,
For strength is the armor in which we dwell.
A son, a brother, a husband, a friend,
The roles we play seem to never end.
Expected to lead, to shield, to fight,
To stand unbroken, day and night.
Oh, to be a man, with dreams untold,
Hiding emotions in a heart grown cold.
For the world teaches, “Be tough, be bold,”
While inside, we long for a hand to hold.
They see our smiles but miss the ache,
The silent wars, the hearts that break.
"Real men don’t cry," they’ve always said,
Yet our minds are loud with words unsaid.
We build, we provide, we push, we strive,
In the chaos of life, we barely survive.
Oh, to be a man is to stand alone,
While longing for a place to call home.
So, here's to the men on this special day,
The unsung heroes in life's ballet.
May your strength be honored, your struggles seen,
Your battles acknowledged, your soul serene.
For being a man is no easy feat,
Yet you rise each day, refusing defeat.
Oh, to be a man is a story profound,
A quiet resilience the world spins around.

a popular meme page on instagram posted a happy international men's day post and the comments were filled with "waiting for all the angry feminists" "comments from toxic women" "women will want half of this too" "single moms in the comments about to go feral" etc. except not one woman commented anything like that. there were a few "who cares" comments and they were all by males 😭😭😭.
tells you a lot really.

I'll make a more detailed post later but for now happy women's day to Maria Antonietta Avanzo who was refused a seat in a team in 1921 because they "wanted all cars to make it to the finish line" only to be later accepted and arrive 3rd in her cathegory, giving Tazio Nuvolari a hard time.
Happy women's day to Ada Pace, who stood on the podium alone because the 2nd and 3rd classified drivers could not tolerate standing on a step lower than a woman.
Happy women's day to Maria Teresa De Filippis, the first woman to drive in F1, who could not race in France because the organizer told her " the only helmet a woman should wear is a hairdresser's".
Happy women's day to Lella Lombardi, the only woman so far to conquer points in f1, who was asked if she was just a pretty doll in an interview.
Happy women's day to Giovanna Amati, who raced for Brabham in a terrible car and was used as a PR stunt and received minimal support.
Happy women's day to the girls and women racing today, hoping for a better future.
#insane to consider how many women made it DESPITE men not thanks to them#women in motorsport#women in f1#international womens day

Hear me out: you can ship JayVik without falling into or using rhetoric that fits the disposable black girlfriend trope. You can ship JayVik without using Mel as some conceived ploy or antagonistic plot device that makes her out of character. You can ship JayVik without falling into misogynistic rhetoric (eg. viewing female characters as disposable or stepping tools, amongst other things). You can ship JayVik without erasing the impact Mel has had on Jayce and their relationship because, whether you shipped it or not or even gave it the time of day, Mel and Jayce did care for each other, and to deny that or say Viktor held more importance/impact than her in Jayce's life to where she's viewed as "unnecessary" just to further your ship is so wrong and, whether you intended for it or not, does carry undertones where black characters, especially black female characters, emotional impact on others is ignored or downplayed even though there's context to support just how important it is/they are. Lastly, you can ship JayVik without using anti-black and misogynoir type rhetoric because the amount that has flooded this fandom, but especially from some fans of this ship, is atrocious. Ship what you like, but be respectful and careful with certain things you say, is all I'm saying.
#arcane#mel medarda#jayce talis#arcane viktor#it's very sad that this still has to be said but no surprising in fandom especially when it comes to m/m ships & a female character#like misogyny (internalized too) becomes rampant but if they are woc then there's and added layer of racism to the mix#since day one mel has been demonized & even if you believe that she used jayce for gain why only hate on her for it & ignore how not only#is this a commom theme in arcane as the show has many questionable morally aligned characters#who don't get as much hate but that also now viktor is in the same shoes as well bc wasn't he manipulating space & time so that jayce always#finds hextech and becomes his partner? acting as if whatever “manipulation” mel did regarding jayce didn't help him move up in society & get#funding#it's also really gross how the fandom and even some of the arcane crew use rhetoric of using female characters as throwaways for this#pairing bc women should not be used as step stools for men's growth than ignored when it's time for them to reflect how they got there#(eg. sky)#this isn't even hate towards jayvik as i don't even mind it but some of the fans of it make it very off-putting#like they're this ships worst enemy sometimes!#jayvik#anti jayvik#but more so in the tags#meljay#kinda...? like it's referred to in the tags and some of the post too ig

Lou had an amazing career. He never went to college, and worked most of his adult life as an administrative assistant, though toward the end he’d gone into business for himself as a freelance digital editor and publisher. The amazing part was not what he did for money, but what he did with the rest of his time. He networked ceaselessly among trans folks, corresponded with hundreds of people around the world, and played a significant role in forging a broader trans community. He founded organizations. He researched and wrote about trans history, including the book-length biography From Female to Male: The Life of Jack Bee Garland. He advocated on behalf of trans people with healthcare providers, and, after having been denied medical services because he was open about identifying as a gay rather than heterosexual man, persuaded the doctors and psychiatrists that one could in fact be both gay and trans, as he was. He volunteered for clinical trials for AIDS drugs, and took a perverse pride in saying that he was proud to die as a gay man, even though authorities had said he couldn’t live as one. And he journaled, beautifully and purposefully, with a growing sense that he wanted his journals to be published.
— Susan Stryker in the Introduction to We Both Laughed in Pleasure: The Selected Diaries of Lou Sullivan

Happy International Men's Day!
International Men’s Day has been celebrated on November 19th for 25 years, and its purpose is to highlight the issues impacting men such as promoting positive role models, health, well-being, and healthy gender relations. Every year, there is a specific theme highlighted for particular emphasis. For 2024, one of several themes is “Men’s Health Champions“, which is meant to “spotlight problems of men’s health and the people delivering the solutions”.
For those in the intersex community, many have specialized healthcare needs, especially if individuals have undergone unnecessary medical procedures in their youth, and intersex men or masculine people are no exception. There is often little visibility for this group within the community when it comes to intersex-specific healthcare, research, and psychosocial support systems. As a result, many intersex men and masculine people can feel isolated.
With this perspective in mind, I wanted to explore the other experiences of intersex men and mascs (masculine people.) So, for International Men’s Day, I hope these 9 stories highlight the diversity of intersex men and mascs, and offer inspirations of masculinity.

Article on Canada's National Post.
I tried several times to post this as a link, but Tumblr refused to treat the link as it does others. You can click the image to go through to the article.
Because of this article the Canadian Center for Men and Families is having a donation drive that other donors will match up to $150k in donations. Please join me in contributing to this cause.
Additionally they will be opening a second facility, which will be the first of its kind in western Canada on November 19th.
