神奈川県には護国神社がないのだが、それは完成間近にアメリカ軍による横浜大空襲によって焼失してしまったからだ。その後まもなくして終戦を迎えたため、再建されることもなかった。 その代わりに同地に建っているのが、この横浜市戦没者慰霊塔。塔に刻まれた昭和二十年から、今年で72年。 Kanagawa Prefecture does not have a Gokoku-Jinja shrine (A shrine honoring the spirits of the war dead.) because it was destroyed by Great Yokohama Air Raids by the U.S. Armed Forces near completion. After that, it came to the end of the war soon, so it was never rebuilt. Instead, it is this Yokohama City War dead memorial tower that is built in the same place.
