Doomed Horror Mavens SAINT KARLOFF Reveal Trippy New Vid ‘Spellburn’
~By Billy Goate~
Tumblr media
Though I haven't asked them about their name directly, I've always assumed that SAINT KARLOFF pay homage to the great horror personage Boris Karloff, the darkly handsome if fearsome progenitor of arguably our most iconic Frankenstein performance and just about every other movie monster (with, I believe, the exception of Dracula -- Bela Lugosi stole the show there). He was the Vincent Price of the '30s, '40s, and '50s and a standard B-movie icon alongside him in the '60s, and '70s. Many a doom album has reference the gloriously trashy Karloff gem, The Crimson Cult (1968), a particular favorite of mine.
I digress? Perhaps not too far, for the Oslo doom rock trio of Mads Melvold (guitar/vocals), Ole Sletner (bass), and Adam Suleiman (drums) share a similar cult like obsession with the shadows. Illusions to classic tales of ghosts and devils pervade their craft. For an avid B-movie and horror enthusiast like me, this is a delight similar to when I chanced upon Uncle Acid and the deadbeats.
One month after the band sent me a demo track, I wrote enthusiastically:
Alright, here's a new discovery I think you're gonna dig. The band is SAINT KARLOFF out of Norway, a trio that describes themselves as hard rock, though their new single really gives off a doomy vibe, so I guess that's whatcha might call doom 'n' roll, right? Anyways, I love the song and especially the seventies-style music video!
Tumblr media
At the time we were tripping out to the single "Ghostsmoker" and I compared their sound to Beastmaker and Salem's Pot. Now that I've had a chance to give their new album, 'All Heed The Black God' (2018), a full hearing, I can say their sound is much more expanse. While still keeping a foot firmly grounded in Pentagram territory, the band embraces a full range of colors and dabbles liberally in the psychedelic palette established by the seventies sound. Vocals target the strength of Orchid's Theo Mindell, while maintaining that dreary, drugged-out edge not unlike Knate from Salem's Pot -- both of which are sweet spots for me. Best of all, Saint Karloff keep it evil, playing to all of our dark sides.
Today, Doomed & Stoned is pleased to debut another single from seven-tracker, the rhapsodic "Spellburn." It's dreamy, eerie, a downtuned kaleidoscope of acid soaked imagery to match the rhythm and tone of this eight-minute jam (great job by bassistOle Sletner, who does all of the band's art and videos). Look for Saint Karloff's All Heed the Black God on July 27th in vinyl, CD, and digital formats via Twin Earth Records. It will also be offered on cassette through Hellas Records.

Some Buzz:
Norwegian distortion pedal lovers Saint Karloff are excited to announce their partnership with Twin Earth Records to release their dĂ©but album, 'All Heed the Black God,' which will be emerging on July 27 2018. The record is stuffed with seven tracks of riff worship much like the already-released “Ghost Smoker”. The band’s aesthetic - much like their name - draws from old school horror films, while the music is a modern twist on that '70s and '80s rockin’ vibe set out by Motorpsycho by way of Black Sabbath -- with a touch of acoustic amid the heavy crunch.
The band commented "With this album, we've really tried not just making it heavy, but also groovy and melodic. We are stoked to release this with Twin Earth Records."

Saint Karloff, a hard-hitting power trio of the good old sort, saw the light of day in 2015. Influenced by the world today and the music of yesterday, this Norwegian band is psychedelic, heavy, and political.
Saint Karloff revealed the first single from 'All Heed the Black God,' “Ghost Smoker," in late April 2018. The song pays tribute to the band's influences, but it's more than just Sabbath-worship; "Ghost Smoker" promises an album defined by creative songwriting, musing lyrics, and of course a flood of fuzz.

Inspired by '70s hard rock and heavy blues bands like Black Sabbath and early Pentagram, Saint Karloff brings driving riffs and groovy beats with a touch of modern day doom and stoner rock. Their debut full-length album 'All Heed the Black God' will be released through Twin Earth Records July 27th, 2018 on digital platforms, vinyl, and CD. The album will also be available on cassette through Hellas Records. (Curtis Dewar)

SAINT KARLOFF Brings The Space Boogie With One-Track Album Interstellar Voodoo
SAINT KARLOFF Brings The Space Boogie With One-Track Album Interstellar Voodoo
[ad_1]
Saint Karloff has quite a lot to say on their new song “Interstellar Voodoo”. So much so that the whole album is just the title track, and the title track is a 40 minute mountain of non-stop riffs. The trio explore everything from outright rock to spacey interludes throughout the runtime, and nail it through and through. Here’s what both guitarist and vocalist Mads Melvold,

What a gorgeous, sunny day it was today in California! Today in Modesto, California at 9 am, California kids started their day by attending the Invest in Your Future Youth Workshop. The workshop had 6 speakers focusing on all aspects of being at the show, and over 175 kids.
Stephen Mast, from Denair, California, taught kids how to bed their dairy cattle at fair.
Evan Creek, from Maryland, and Joe Hoffman, from Southern California, taught kids the fine points of clipping a dairy heifer.
Ryan Matheron, from Hilmar, California, taught kids what judges are looking for when they judge a dairy animal.
Cole Bettencourt, from Turlock, California, taught what to feed and not to feed at the show.
Natalie Sanders, from Hilmar, California, and Brady Core, from Kentucky, taught the basic show day supplies and how they are utilized on the day of show.
Jerome Meyer, from Wisconsin, and Brandon Almeida, from Hilmar, California, taught how to show a dairy animal.
Auction baskets were donated by Nasco. Kids who asked questions, won a raffle ticket in chance of winning a basket of show supplies for show day.
In the middle is the Dairy Princess of Turlock, Nicole Sanders, and alternate Alexia Nunes.
After the field day, kids and their parents were fed tri-tip sandwiches and hot dogs, cooked by Frank Borba, Manuel Cardoza, and Joe Borba, and served by the Turlock Dairy Princesses, Lindsey Nunes, Kate Teixeira and Linda Teixeira.
Soon after lunch, we headed over to the barn to see the 48 calves and heifers up for sale. While the kids played outside, offers were made for the cattle. The sale averaged $3,446.66, and the cow that was sold for the most was Carly-O Tequila by Ken Melvold, at $6,000.
The Invest in Your Future Youth Workshop & Tag Sale was made possible by the Texeira, Borba, and Nunes family. From right to left, JW, Robert & Kate Teixeira, Diane & Frank Borba, Gilbert, Chloe, & Linda Teixeira, Alexis, Lindsey & Tommy Nunes
