Scenes From My Walk - Canyon Towhee alights briefly on a gate before flying off - a millisecond later and I would have missed it. It’s beak is full of fluff, probably for a nest. #ScenesFromMyWalk #CanyonTowhee #CanyonTowhees #BirdsOfNewMexico #MelozoneFusca #Naturalist #PhotoByJeriRae (at Santa Fe, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdyzCsYPnnf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Scenes From My Walk - Canyon Towhee (Melozone fusca) - Set B - There is a strip of something over its face and beak in this set. I don’t know what it is though. This description fit where this towhee was located: “The towhee feeds on the ground or in low scrub rather than in the tree canopy. Near human habitation, it is often seen in parking lots, where it feeds on insects on the cars' grilles and takes cover under the cars when disturbed.” - Wikipedia #ScenesFromMyWalk #CanyonTowhee #MelozoneFusca #Bird #Birds #Birding #BirdingPhotography (at Santa Fe, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV_WUCAPfjo/?utm_medium=tumblr

Scenes From My Walk - Canyon Towhee (Melozone fusca) Among the best Canyon Towhee photos I’ve been able to capture. At first I thought it was a dead leaf from a distance but then a tail came into view so I quickly got my camera in position to take photos. The bird does look a bit puffed up but it was a bit chilly so perhaps this helps keep it warm. #ScenesFromMyWalk #CanyonTowhee #CanyonTowhees #BirdsOfNewMexico #MelozoneFusca https://www.instagram.com/p/CTNDlVKrwCp/?utm_medium=tumblr

Scenes From My Walk - Canyon Towhee (Melozone fusca) I heard this birds distinctive call before I saw it. I had to quickly snap a photo once it landed on a fence post before it flew away. Luckily it turned its head just enough that it’s eye is visible. This is a good look at the tail feathers. #ScenesFromMyWalk #CanyonTowhee #MelozoneFusca #DelightfulBird #CanyonTowhees (at Agua Fria, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTFjCszlLh8/?utm_medium=tumblr

Scenes From My Walk - Canyon Towhee (Melozone fusca). “The towhee is native to lower-lying areas from Arizona, southern Colorado, New Mexico and western Texas south to northwestern Oaxaca, Mexico, mostly avoiding the coasts. Its natural habitat is brush or chaparral. The towhee feeds on the ground or in low scrub rather than in the tree canopy. Near human habitation, it is often seen in parking lots, where it feeds on insects on the cars' grilles and takes cover under the cars when disturbed.” - Wikipedia The Canyon Towhee, “occurs in deserts and dry grasslands with scattered dense shrubs. Forages primarily for seeds by running and hopping on the ground. Visits feeders. Essentially no range overlap with the very similar California Towhee; also note Canyon has reddish crown and lacks rusty tones on face.” - Cornell Lab of Ornithology #ScenesFromMyWalk #CanyonTowhee #BirdInATree #AguaFria #BirdsOfNewMexico #birders #MelozoneFusca (at Agua Fria, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS98RU0ru3W/?utm_medium=tumblr
