"Thus if you wish to see the mystery of the Lord,
look at Abel who is likewise slain,
at Isaac who is likewise tied up,
at Moses who is likewise exposed,
at Joseph who is likewise traded,
at David who is likewise hunted down,
at the prophets who likewise suffer for the sake of Christ."
"This is the one who comes from heaven onto the earth
for the suffering one,
and wraps himself in the suffering one through a virgin
womb,
and comes as a man.
He accepted the suffering of the suffering one,
through suffering in a body which could suffer,
and set free the flesh from suffering.
Through the spirit which cannot die
he slew the manslayer death"
~Melito of Sardis "Peri Pascha" (the second century paschal homily)

RESURRECTION SUNDAY | EASTER EGGS (JN. 20:1-18)
RESURRECTION SUNDAY | EASTER EGGS (JN. 20:1-18) 'The hope Christianity declares is not death, nor a luxury version of it. It is death's defeat we sing about as we look forward to our eventual bodily resurrection.'
Here’s my longer sermon notes from this Easter Sunday’s Metro Christian Centre service (dated 9th April 2023). If you’re reading closely, you’ll find some Easter Eggs 😉 You can also catch up with this via MCC’s YouTube channel (just give us time to get the video uploaded). ‘God is whoever raised Jesus from the dead, having before raised Israel from Egypt.’  Robert W. The Easter Praise of Christ
“We should understand, beloved, that the paschal mystery is one once old and new, transitory and eternal, corruptible and incorruptible, mortal and immortal. In terms of the Law is it old, in terms of the Word it is new. In its figure it is passing, in its grace it is eternal. It is corruptible in the sacrifice of the lamb, incorruptible in the eternal life of the Lord, It is mortal in his burial…

Melito, Bishop of Sardis, in the second century put these words in the mouth of Christ:
I am the Christ.
I am the one who destroyed death,
and triumphed over the enemy
and trampled Hades under foot,
and bound the strong one,
and carried off man to the heights of heaven,
I, He says, am the Christ...
I am your forgiveness,
I am the passover of your salvation,
I am the lamb which was sacrificed for you,
I am your ransom,
I am your light,
I am your saviour,
I am your resurrection,
I am your king,
I am leading you up to the heights of heaven,
I will show you the eternal Father,
I will raise you up by my right hand.

Truth About Mary, Mother of Jesus
Jesus was born of a woman named Mary in Bethlehem. Was she prophesied in the Hebrew scriptures (the Old Testament)? Did an angel appear to her? Did she make a prophecy about herself that came to pass? Should Mary be called blessed? Was she a "perpetual virgin"? Did Jesus have brothers and sisters? What do we see from the Bible as well as writings from early Christians such as Papias of Hierapolis, Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, and Melito of Sardis? When does 'The Catholic Encyclopedia' point to the start of Marian veneration? Did Gregory the Wonder Worker see Mary? Did he advocate for an Annunciation festival the same dates as a similar festival for the goddess Diana? Did the Lady of Fatima look like the Fatima statue or Diana? Is Mary the mother of grace? Is the 'Hail Mary' prayer original or from the Bible? Does the Bible warn about a claimed virgin who instead is a harlot? Might people be deceived by signs and lying wonders that might claim to be Jesus' mother Mary? Dr. Thiel covers these issues and reveals the truth about Jesus' mother Mary.
A detailed written article is also available titled 'Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the Apparitions'

Quote
When the Lord had clothed himself with humanity, and had suffered for the sake of the sufferer, and had been bound for the sake of the imprisoned, and had been judged for the sake of the condemned, and buried for the sake of the one who was buried, He rose up from the dead, and cried aloud with this voice: Who is he who contends with me? Let him stand in opposition to me. I set the condemned man free; I gave the dead man life; I raised up the one who had been entombed. Who is my opponent? I, he says, am the Christ. I am the one who destroyed death, and triumphed over the enemy, and trampled Hades under foot, and bound the strong one, and carried off man to the heights of heaven, I, he says, am the Christ. Therefore, come, all families of men, you who have been befouled with sins, and receive forgiveness for your sins. I am your forgiveness, I am the passover of your salvation, I am the lamb which was sacrificed for you, I am your ransom, I am your light, I am your saviour, I am your resurrection, I am your king, I am leading you up to the heights of heaven, I will show you the eternal Father, I will raise you up by my right hand. This is the one who made the heavens and the earth, and who in the beginning created man, who was proclaimed through the law and prophets, who became human via the virgin, who was hanged upon a tree, who was buried in the earth, who was resurrected from the dead, and who ascended to the heights of heaven, who sits at the right hand of the Father, who has authority to judge and to save everything, through whom the Father created everything from the beginning of the world to the end of the age. This is the alpha and the omega. This is the beginning and the end–an indescribable beginning and an incomprehensible end. This is the Christ. This is the king. This is Jesus. This is the general. This is the Lord. This is the one who rose up from the dead. This is the one who sits at the right hand of the Father. He bears the Father and is borne by the Father, to whom be the glory and the power forever. Amen.

"We should understand, beloved, that the paschal mystery is at once old and new, transitory and eternal, corruptible and incorruptible, mortal and immortal. In terms of the Law it is old, in terms of the Word it is new. In its figure it is passing, in its grace it is eternal. It is corruptible in the sacrifice of the lamb, incorruptible in the eternal life of the Lord. It is mortal in his burial in the earth, immortal in his resurrection from the dead."
From an Easter homily by Melito of Sardis, bishop  [From the Office of Readings]

by Simonetta Carr | Melito is not a familiar name today. Until the last century, we could only find a mention of him in Eusebius’s Ecclesiastical History, mostly in connection with the controversy over the day in which the feast of Pascha (Easter) was to be celebrated...
