[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A screenshot of a Google Document that reads,
“DISHES
Picante Pork Chops y Peril con Tostones de los Muertos: Melisa's favorite dish. Pork chops and pork shoulder slow cooked and slathered in a special spicy pepper sauce made of Dragon's Breath Peppers, Ghost Peppers, and Carolina Reapers. On the side is tostones and guavanja jam, and a cup of milk of course. "I love pork and tostones con jam, but what's the point of food if it doesn't have a little kick?" - Melisa
La Mejor Leche Chocolate - Dahlia's favorite drink.
Milk, cocoa powder, melted chocolate, and some peppermint are all mixed together over low heat and then topped with some ice. This ultimate chocolate milk was originally imagined and created by Dahlia and Elisa, and now it's become a beloved nightly sweet drink. "Anyone who is narrow-minded enough to resist the idea of ice in milk doesn't deserve to taste the beauty of La Mejor Leche Chocolate anyway!" - Dahlia”

Tumblr media
Just a lil exercise for oc writing! Y’all can send in asks addressed to certain DTR characters and I’ll respond in-character! You can ask them things, tell them things, even send images or gifs if you wanna! Just put “For [character name]” somewhere in the ask! Here are the characters you can talk to (i added short descriptions for characters without dedicated explanation/backstory posts):
Elisa Cantarla
Melisa Cantarla-Forester
Dahlia Cantarla-Forester
Kalani Murphy — Robot powered by a human soul
Jaden Afton — Soldier fighting in a war that her mother started
Julian Chimante — Baker with trauma
Luterna Goh’la — Chief of Goh Village and the Second Guardian of Light
Ain Goh’be — Advisor to Luterna
Callum — Second Guardian of Darkness
Markus — First Guardian of Darkness
James — Markus’ sidekick (and unwilling assistant in his crimes)
Amuoto — AWC PR guy/Secretary
Leon — Monster who can contort his body to create an elaborate faux-human disguise
Bel — AU version of Elisa, part of the Dead Worlds Gang
I don’t have a specific end date in mind for this, sooo yeah! :P

You can check out the character’s tags if you’re not familiar with them, or ask me for an overview. I’d also love to see reasonings in the tags as well! :P

I love the troupe so damn much. They are all trying their best despite their flaws and despite a fucked up world and a fucked up situation and seemingly everything trying to force them apart THEY STILL FUCKING CLAW THEIR WAY BACK INTO EACH OTHER’S ARMS CUZ THEY ARE A FAMILY AND THEY MEANT IT WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND

fun tidbit: Elisa’s full name is Isabela Elisa Cantarla. Melisa’s is originally Misty Elisa Cantarla but changes it to Melisa Misery Cantarla.

“I suppose you’re expecting some big introduction or an explanation for why I should still be allowed to roam free after all I’ve done. Well, I have no motivation to justify my existence to anyone. If you still insist on a statement, how’s this: fuck off.”
MELISA - World-Ending Ankle-Biter
Affiliation: The Cora Zone
Affinity: The Cup
Weapons: Twin Knives and Ghost Guavanja
Showstopper: Big Feelings, Small Body
Eccentricities: TBD
A particularly violent Elisa variant, Melisa is most notable for the murders of everyone in her original universe. However, the residents of the Cora Zone have taken her in and helped curb her thirst for blood. Despite being considered a sister to both AWC co-founder Elisa and AWC member-to-be Dahlia, as well as being parented by many other AWC members, Melisa remains factionless. All of their work is done separate from the Commission, even when working with AWC members.* Melisa does not concern herself with redemption or atonement; she instead believes that moving forward and not erasing nor dwelling on the past is the way toward a fulfilling life.
*This means that the only good that a filed complaint about her will do is provide kindling for the Dispute Officer’s tea kettle.

Note
tell us more about meliss dtr pls pls
aight!
not sure where to start tbh… uhh basically she’s an alternate version of Elisa. She is a version that is much more bloodthirsty and a lot more ballsy. Aka, Elisa if she had snapped and killed everyone in her original universe.
I’ve posted about Elisa’s original universe, where she is basically an NPC who’s aware that she’s an NPC. Melisa’s original universe is like that as well, but in hers Melisa lost it and went on a killing spree. And I mean everyone surrounding the area that melisa lives is dead, and due to that universe being especially reliant on its main characters with everything and everyone else having no impact other than set dressing, Melisa effectively neutered that universe. Murder is so drastic for a universe that is literally just a trashy tv series that it practically malfunctions, and despite status quo usually restoring after every episode, Melisa’s actions were so unexpected and unprepared for that everything didn’t just go back to normal. The characters were built for love triangles and homecoming court, not serial killers. So the people Melisa killed cannot come back and more cannot just show up because no one was supposed to hurt them. They can’t recover from death because they were never supposed to have their lives threatened like that, ever. So Melisa is alone.
One thing about Elisa is a desire for control and power, because they never had that. Melisa is the same, and gets that control and power from murder. So while Melisa has gotten all the control she wants, she has no one to talk to and nothing to do. So, when a portal appears, and a bunch of people tumble out of it, she’s excited.
of course, since she lost her mind and isolation didn’t do her any favors, she is uh. Not Normal About Anything. She doesn’t even think twice about murder. And in all honesty, she’s afraid to lose her control, even though the control she has is over a dead world. So she’s scared to talk to these people.
Lucky for her, the exiting of this portal was particularly intense, and scattered most of the people going through it. And, what do you know? One of em looks just like Melisa (except for slightly different clothes, Melisa having sharper teeth and slightly longer hair, and the slash direction of her facial scar is flipped). And after leaving the portal with force comparable to being shot out of a cannon, this lookalike is unconscious. Cue the one-sided non-consensual princess and the pauper/parent trap.
As for why everyone else didn’t catch on, this takes place in Season 2 of DTR, and it’s been 2 years since most of the Troupe (<- group name for the main ensemble of DTR) have seen Elisa, and they only reunited with them recently before landing in Mel’s universe. So while the prominent facial scar being flipped is hard to excuse (and Elisa’s main gripe at the troupe for not noticing), everything else was kinda probable. Longer hair? Elisa grew it out. Sharper teeth? Her teeth must grow sharper over time. Ripped up clothes? Force of being launched out of the portal ripped it. Missing Roberta la mochila? Lost it when exiting portal.
Melisa does a great job at impersonating Elisa, mainly through staying quiet and going with what others say about her. The Troupe ends up assuming any weird behavior is due to a concussion, and grief over Roberta.
Elisa manages to catch up to the Troupe while they’re in a pirate-centric universe. In fact, she ends up in a parallel pirate universe with alternate versions of the Troupe, and the alternate Troupe and pirates sail into the other pirate universe to help Elisa. Elisa reveals Melisa’s scheme dramatically, and Melisa freaks and stabs Elisa. But Elisa gets stabbed where her appendix would be, and she got her appendix removed a while back, so other than the actual stab wound itself (which wasn’t that deep due to the onslaught of people who were able to intervene on the ship), Elisa ended up mostly okay, no organ damage or anything.
As for Melisa, they get locked up in the brig. But Elisa finds herself intrigued by this alternate version of themself. They basically say, “I want to study you” and convinces the Troupe to try to rehabilitate her. Eventually, much much much later, Mel and El do become close enough to consider each other siblings!
also, Melisa is not her birth name. She has the same name as Elisa, but kinda dissociated herself from the name because she didn’t really need a name after being completely alone in her world. So when Elisa calls her “murder-lisa” then finally “Melisa,” she actually accepts it.
Soooo ye! :P

hnnnnhg melisa really is the character ever. she’s a mostly-mortal teenager with a kill count rivaling that of the reformed villain robot who is two or three times her age. She is able to convincingly impersonate her main universe counterpart despite knowing nothing about said counterpart, and achieves this mostly through educated guesses, thievery, and plain old bullshitting. her first instinct upon being found out is to stab her counterpart. Her solution to anything is to stab it or sulk about it. she growls hisses and snarls to express herself, and even after she is reformed (read: somewhat domesticated) she’s not afraid to bite, maim, or even murder anything that threatens the people she loves. she attaches herself to a late 20s depressed gay loser and sees him as the best candidate for being a father figure. she can even cook

i’ve no intention of changing it cuz I don’t wanna but since DTR has alternate universe versions of characters and ya gotta differentiate them somehow it does lead to me saying shit like “this is my child melisa. portmanteau of ‘murder’ and ‘elisa’ because she is a serial killer version of elisa. This is nekolani. he is kalani but. a cat. this is mark AU version of Markus” and those just become their canon names

WOE WATCHERS BE UPON YE
Tumblr media
So! Watchers are a species of creatures that are invincible and basically act as security cameras for the beings in the Absolute*. They generally take the shape and color of a light blue stylized diamond with a round dark blue pupil. You can stick your hand inside em and they won’t mind at all (in case you’re curious, it feels like when you stick your fingertips into water and feel them just barely breaking the surface tension). They can’t really communicate except amongst themselves, and even then it’s kind of like communication between plants or fungi. Their ability to alert fellow Watchers to their whereabouts and what they are viewing makes them quite useful for the AWC (All Worlds Comission) and is how members respond to distress calls, summon portals, and just keep in touch with each other. Watchers don’t really have much intelligence or sapience but they do have the ability to understand what they are seeing and some have expressed what appears to be joy and companionship with their AWC members.
Each AWC member has a little badge/charm denoting their membership. It’s a Watcher encased in either bronze, silver, or obsidian, depending on certain requirements. Each AWC emblem also has zero to three pairs of wings as part of its casing, again depending on certain requirements. The third Watcher from the left in the picture shows a full AWC emblem with all three pairs of wings.
The first Watcher on the left is a modified AWC emblem. It is in the style of a symbol for a group of troublemakers whose group name I haven’t decided on yet. It consists of a Kalani variant who is a cruel king, an Elisa variant living in a dystopian wasteland, and a man from the same universe as said Elisa variant who is quite keen on protecting her. These troublemakers commit petty theft and mischief and are not considered threats to the multiverse, no matter how much they like to boast about the trouble they supposedly cause the AWC. At any rate, AWC members are occasionally sent in to rein in the troublemakers’ chaos if it seems like it may go too far.
Second one from the left is seahorse-inspired, additional info about it to be determined.
The last one, the rightmost one, is Melisa’s Watcher. Melisa, despite living with and caring deeply for quite a few of the first members of the AWC, is not technically associated with them. She doesn’t desire to be a part of the organization, but she does venture out on her own to do work similar to that of an AWC member. Elisa and Dahlia are the only ones who know, and they gave Mel this Watcher just in case she needed it. Mel wears it as an earring, and it depicts an arrow going through the symbols of Melisa (anatomical heart, albeit shittily drawn), Elisa (stylized heart), and Dahlia (stylized diamond), ending with the Watcher as the arrowhead.
*the Absolute is the space outside of the universes and portals, and is where you’ll likely find the Guardians and their attendants
so yeah! That’s the Watchers! @the-gayest-sky-kid @spookyowokylad tagging y’all since you two probably know the most about DTR on here other than me lol
