Ross McGrath, Tim Ahern and Dale Jennings, bravely battling the scene of Russell Street together.

Tumblr media
The recreation of the Russell Street Bombing in A Step Closer To The Madness still remains the most impressive feat that The Newsreader has pulled off, in my eyes. The amount of effort and dedication that went into making the explosion and the scene look as accurate as possible is so evident to viewers, especially when you compare it to the real footage from the day. Truthfully, sometimes I cannot tell the images of the recreation to the real event apart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Michael Lucas shared to the Sydney Morning Herald that “there’s a real obligation to do it justice.” Filmed on the 3rd February 2021, both Russell Street and MacKenzie Street in Melbourne’s CBD were filled with vintage cars, period accurate ambulances, fire engines and police cars, and a whole heap of extras dressed appropriately in 1980s gear. One of the firefighters in the scenes; Graham Duncan, had even been on the scene of real bombing back in 1986, and he rated the recreation pretty spot on, and also spoke about how the episode would help bring the story to younger generations so that they can learn about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The recreation and the turning of these two busy Melbourne streets into a film set was so notable that it ended up making the real news. The Sydney Morning Herald, Seven News and Nine News all covered the filming, providing lots of behind the scenes footage and images. The streets were closed to the general public, and Victoria Police issued out warnings to the public about closures in the Russell Street vicinity, as well as out in Carlton for the pub scenes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The filming was also the cause of real legality concern, and there was thoughts that the ABC might have faced an injunction from two of the Russell Street perpetrators in relation to their upcoming trial for an unrelated cause, which could have postponed the airing of the episode. This didn’t eventuate, as the ABC reassured their legal teams that their names and the criminal trial to follow the bombing wouldn’t be included in our show. Thank goodness for that.

Fantomette I love YOU but why the FUCK you are using English script that done Dores dirty by clearly saying 'he' when the ACTUAL instance of unconfirmed gender is in the original:
Tumblr media
Dores is a female name though, so personally I like to think she was a she! It can be further backed up by the fact that EVERY Soulsborne game has an archetype of a cannibal butcher woman living in swamp-ish area.. except for Bloodborne, conveniently:
^ for compillation
Dores could soooooOOOOO fit the archetype, you have no idea! We were robbed..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dores had some gruesome business going on, too x) Like Fantomette said, they must have been guarding the graves found across Forbidden Woods. Some of them are large and covered in 'phantasms', could they be graves of the hunted Great Ones?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mask of this set is found separately from the rest of the set, through an unlikely platformer:
youtube
@val-of-the-north says that it is likely that someone torn the mask off from Dores for one reason or another and ran with it, and I honestly believe that x) Fantomette also believes there were a couple of associates of Dores dressing in the same fashion and we collect the set from them!
Tumblr media
^ love specks of blood lol
love u bloodborne mutuals but who the fuck is Dores? Are they a cut character???

Review: Berlin Syndrome
A staggering misfire, Shortland throttles the tension and nuance right out of this ungainly psychological thriller. Tediously mean.
There’s a perversity at the heart of Cate Shortland’s astoundingly bad psychological thriller Berlin Syndrome, but it’s not exactly what you’d think. Well, it’s that too, but we’ll get there.

Ai eu fui melhorando, me acalmando, me sentindo bem e ai ficou tudo bem e aliviou e foi gostoso. Agora estamos assistindo o Fantástico, vamos pedir uma pizza, tomar um vinho grego…Vai ficar tudo bem, com muita fé, muita oração!”.

Stephen Peacocke as Rob Rickards in The Newsreader’s S01E04 - A Step Closer To The Madness 🤴🏻🌟📺
.
.
I’ve shared this photo multiple times, almost an unhealthy amount, if I’m honest. But there’s purpose behind this reposted photo, I promise!
Number One, it is a ripper of a photo. It’s one of those photos that truly captures Rob’s complexities and portrays him in a more serious manner. And Number Two, for these next posts we are adding to my The Newsreader On Location series, and conveniently for me, all three of these posts are in the same location!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It took me embarrassingly long to figure out where this photo was taken. As I’m not a Melbourne local it’s tricky for me to pinpoint geographical spots unless they are glaringly obvious, like the Russell Street former police headquarters, and the Observatory in the Botanical Gardens.
However, when I was looking back on my photos I took in Russell Street back last March, I noticed the corner of a white building that looked awfully familiar. I went on Google Maps, located the corner and hey presto, I came across MacKenzie Street!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In A Step Closer To The Madness, this is the side street in which Rob, Dale, Tim and Ross parked in to go to the pub. It’s a short scene but it was wonderful to find the location. I even screenshot roughly the spot Stephen/Rob stood in for this photo! I also have these screenshots featuring Stephen/Rob from a Nine News Melbourne clip to share in this post also. You can see the others and also Michael Lucas in these too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do feel a touch embarrassed as I would have walked right past the MacKenzie Street when I was walking from seeing the plaque for Constable Angela Taylor on the former headquarters to get to Carlton, and on the way back too, and for some reason it didn’t compute for me that this was the street. But I do have to give myself some grace; I’m not a local to the city, and I shouldn’t expect that I’m going to recognise everything. In fact, I think I’m doing a pretty tip top job with the knowledge and geographical distance that I have, and must remember to be kinder to myself as a result! I’m really not doing badly for a girl from regional New South Wales.
Have you been to MacKenzie Street? Did you know this was the spot?
