Tumblr media
You truthfully couldn’t remember the last time you had gotten as drunk as you were at this very moment. A friend of your best friend's had invited you two out to this warehouse party-club situation. You were hesitant at first, not knowing if you had that in you but the second you arrived at the apartment of the friend, who you found out was named Mel, and they were pregaming with Fireball and Malibu shots, you knew you were incredibly fucked.
You had a great time, granted.
Your best friend, Caitlyn, Mel, and you made new friends amid the crowd. The girls were so lovely, throwing compliments on hair, makeup, and outfits back and forth.
Before you knew it you had made your way onto the stage with the DJ, telling him to play a certain selection of songs. He even lets you queue them up on his laptop. You huff as you realize that you want to go home but Mel was talking to some tall man who was quite handsome off stage in a corner and Caitlyn was with you on stage but she was busy talking to a red-haired butch that was covered in tattoos on the other side of the large stage.
You reach lazily into your back pocket, pulling out your phone to call your girlfriend. You blink rapidly to try and focus your eyes on your screen, leaning a bit to one side as if that would help your slightly blurry vision due to both your intoxication and the number of strobe lights.
You successfully press the call button and hold the speaker up to your ear as you take slow steps over to Caitlyn, tapping her bare shoulder as she is wearing a rosewood red lace tank and a short black skirt. You mutter an apology to someone you bumped into as you tap on her shoulder again.
She turns her head around to see you holding up your phone to your ear, furrowing her brows.
“Wait, darling, who are you calling?” Caitlyn shouts over the music, one hand on the girl’s shoulder that she was talking to and the other brushing her long blue hair over her ear.
“Sevik– Hi, baby!” You beam as the line clicks, cutting yourself off before nodding to Caitlyn and mouthing, ‘Sevika’.
You think you hear a little bit of shuffling on the other line before you shake your head with a frown, looking up at your best friend. The line clicked off so you assumed you needed to go somewhere quiet to be able to talk to the woman you loved.
“Cait, wait a minute. I’m gonna,” you take a deep breath to stabilize yourself, holding a hand out to make sure you don’t face plant onto the ground. “‘M gonna go just a little bit outside so that Sev can pick us up. I’ll be righ’ back, okay?”
“No, no, you’re not going alone. Wait right here. Do not move.”
The taller woman turns to the butch she was talking to, sending her a quick flirty smile before leaning down to say something in her ear. You wait patiently for her, looking down at your screen again to see a few message notifications from Sevika.
from sevi ❤︎ | Babe, is everything okay?
from sevi ❤︎ | You did mean to call me, right?
from sevi ❤︎ | Please text me, my love. I’m getting a bit worried.
Your heart aches at the bright reminders that you have a girlfriend: who cares about your well-being. You look up to see Caitlyn placing a kiss to the woman's cheek before handing her back her phone. You swore even being as drunk as you were, you could tell how flustered that woman was. You understood though.
Caitlyn is fucking stunning.
“We grab Mel and we head outside, okay? I see her right there.” Caitlyn’s long arm hooks on yours, a big of a smug grin on her face.
“She was hot! You gave her your number right?” You squeal as you carefully step down with Caitlyn to the ground level once again.
A wave of nausea washed over you as you attempted to balance yourself out. You believe Caitlyn confirmed the fact that she had gotten the butch’s number but the next thing you remember is being face-to-face with Mel and the man she had been talking to.
She tells you his name, leaning in to shout it in your ear.
“Jay? Hi Jay! You are very handsome,” you shout in his face, a stupid smile on your face.
The man’s face twists in amusement at your state and looks at Mel with a softer expression. “H-Hi! It’s Jayce but thank you.”
Your mouth forms into an ‘o’ at how you misheard the name, stuttering out apologies. He waves it off, telling you it's okay.
“I think someone’s calling you,” the man, Jayce, points to your phone that was buzzing in your hand.
You look down at it, muttering a curse as it was Sevika calling you once again and you are still inside the loud crowded warehouse.
“Meli, we’ve got to go outside for a moment. Sevika’s calling her,” Caitlyn placed a hand on Mel’s forearm.
Mel looked between you and Jayce, excusing herself to the man and reassuring him that she’d be right back. He told her it was fine and to not worry about it. You couldn’t hold back your awe and wave ‘bye’ at Jayce as Caitlyn and Mel now had one arm hooked on either one of yours as the three of you made your way outside.
“I’ll call her back,” Caitlyn reaches for your phone that was gripped tightly in your hand.
You easily allow her to take it from you, resting your head on Mel’s shoulder as the fresh air hits you the second you step outside. You hum a random tune as Mel rests her head on your head too, rubbing her free palm on your hand.
Caitlyn took a step away from you two to dial Sevika on your phone again to let her know that you were fine and just wanted to go home. Within minutes after ringing her back, Sevika was in her beaten town truck just across the street. You gasped at the sight of it, even in your drunken state, you were able to recognize the familiar vehicle.
Sevika walks over to you three, greeting Mel and Caitlyn first before allowing you to wrap your arms around her torso to lean into her touch. You held yourself up weakly, stumbling over the curb.
“Sevika,” you sigh with a slight groan.
“Yeah, baby, I’m here. We’re gonna go home,” the taller of you two leaned down to press a kiss to your damp temple from your sweat.
“We’ll see you on Monday. I’ll call you tomorrow to make sure you’re okay.” Caitlyn assures you with a sweet grin, leaning back into Mel now that you are clinging to your girlfriend.
“Wait, who’s taking you home? I don’ want you guys to be here alone,” you look up at Sevika and point your finger over her shoulder to her truck. “Let’s take ‘em home, baby.”
Mel and Caitlyn are quick to assure you and your girlfriend that the man that they were previously talking to would take them home as he was the DD for his best friend that he was with that night. You stare unable to remember for a moment who they were talking about.
“Ohhh, Jaycey boy! He seems really nice, Meli. I’m so happy for you,” you nod in approval with a thumbs up as you lean into Sevika’s chest.
“She has our locations, Sevika,” Caitlyn tells your girlfriend, hinting to her to check it every once in a while to make sure the man wouldn’t take them anywhere they weren’t supposed to.
Sevika nods in understanding, sternly telling the two to please be safe. Mel showed a photo of Jayce to Sevika to make sure she knew who this man was. Your mind only had bits and pieces of that night that you were able to remember.
For instance, after Sevika had picked you up, you couldn’t remember the drive home whatsoever. What you do remember is begging Sevika to get some Nacho Fries and a frozen Baja Blast.
You reached over her lap from the passenger's seat to tell the worker your order, Sevika placing a hand on your lower stomach to keep you steady so you wouldn’t fall forward and hit your face on the car door.
“Wait, Sevi, do you wan’ anything?” You turn your back into the car to look at your girlfriend.
“No, I’m okay. Thank you, baby.” she leans forward to kiss your side before patting your hip to motion for you to sit back down.
“Mm okay,” you hum before telling the worker that should be everything and snuggle back down into your seat.
After paying for the food and handing it to you in the passenger's seat, Sevika told you that you were almost home and you could eat it then. You didn’t listen and ate all of the fries in her car and hounded down the Baja Blast with ease.
Thankfully, your shared apartment was only a few minutes away from Taco Bell.
Sevika had opened your passenger's side door when you arrived, holding back an amused at the giddy expression on your face. She held her arm out for you to grasp onto as you stepped down onto the concrete of the road. You hum to yourself as you look up at Sevika, raising your free hand to pat her broad shoulder.
“Baby, would it be so bad if we…?” You trail off as you giggle to yourself at the thought.
“If we what?” Sevika hums back as her arm slithers around your waist to hold you up as the two of you make your way to your apartment.
Sevika internally cursed as she knew you wouldn’t want to go up all of the stairs. You two lived on the fourth floor.
“Well, I don’t know. What we woul’ usually be doing on a Friday– Oh!”
You yelp as Sevika wraps her arms around your waist to hoist you up and over her shoulder, cutting off your words. Your hands rest on her lower back, grinning mischievously to yourself at the sight of her skin.
“You don’t feel like throwing up?” Sevika questions as she holds your thighs down with one of her forearms.
“Nuh-uh. ‘M lovin’ this view though,” you chuckle to yourself as you stare at her ass, blinking a bit to focus your vision.
Sevika shakes her head knowingly, smiling at your giggles the whole way up the stairs. She even felt your hands caressing her strip of skin that was exposed from her slightly cut-off t-shirt.
“You’re having fun down there?” She questions as she approaches your front door, reaching into her front pocket to pull out her keys.
You merely smack her ass to confirm her suspicions to which she lightly smacks your own with a: “Keep your hands to yourself.”
You twiddle with a loose string coming from the shirt as she carries you into your cool apartment, tossing her keys into the bowl near the front door. She kicks the door shut with her foot with a soft grunt, scaring you for a moment at the sudden movement.
“Baby, lock the door for me, please?” She asked you, scooting backward a few steps.
You lift your head, steadying yourself with one weak hand on her lower back as you reach for the three knobs. You twist each of them to the right with a soft click. Sevika kisses the side of your hip that is next to her face and thanks you before making her way down the hall to your shared bedroom.
“Sevi, I think I’m gonna throw up a little,” you warn her, hiccuping a bit.
Sevika’s eyes widen at your words as she carefully sets you down on your feet, holding your hips to lead you to the bathroom. You cover your mouth as you stumble to kneel next to the toilet, hunching over as you wait for the vomit to hit the water. Sevika quickly took her place next to you as she pushed back your falling strands of hair, gathering it in a ponytail in her fist.
“Let it out if you need to. It’s okay if you can’t,” she rubs your back with the other hand, wincing at your gagging.
You groan as you shake your head, eyes watering at the fact that it wasn’t coming up.
“It’s not– I can’t. I though’ I could, Sevi,” you frown up at her as you slump against the wall in front of the seat.
Sevika shushes you as she releases your hair and takes your hands into her larger ones, urging you to stand up.
“It’s okay. Let’s just get you to bed,” she instructs you gently.
You nod slowly, sniffling as you let her lead you back into the bedroom. You remember her carefully removing your ‘party clothes’ and putting one of her sleeping tees on you. She knew how much you adored them so at least you would have that to wake up to. She grabbed some of your micellar water and a rag to remove what was left of your makeup, holding your jaw in your hand as you kept trying to lay down once the comfier clothing was on.
After doing the usual night routine, you plopped down onto the mattress with a satisfied sigh as she snuggled your cheek into the pillowcase.
“Night, baby,” you hum as you smack your lips.
“Good night, my love,” she teases as she places a kiss on your cheek before rounding the bed to lie down on her side.
You pretty much passed out as soon as Sevika had lifted the covers over you two, mouth ajar and limbs awry.
You were never drinking again.
You thought as you carefully sat upright in your bed, squinting your eyes hard as the light from the morning sun was blinding you through your thin curtains. The headache and nausea hit you all at once as you covered your mouth, afraid of the bile that might escape. You wait a few seconds to make sure you aren’t actually going to throw up. Your eyes follow to your bedside table as you reach over to grab your phone, your movements slow as ever.
As you squint your eyes to focus on the screen, you see a few messages from Caitlyn and Mel; telling you they made it home and they were in fact not kidnapped. You then shift your eyes to the numbers at the top.
It was 9 o’clock in the morning; way too fucking early for the night you had.
You grunt as you gradually lay back down, wanting to stay still for the next three hours to not trigger the pounding headache to worsen. You peer over your bedroom door to see that it was left halfway open, the sound of footsteps coming down the hallway. Not to your surprise, it was Sevika with a small tray of food for you. You could hear her whisper a curse as she tried her hardest to not spill the coffee on it.
“Sevika?” You call out to her, your groggy and strained voice making your head hurt.
“You’re awake. Good morning,” Sevika tells you with a knowing and sympathetic smile.
You groan in response to her words, wanting to grab the pillow you were laying your head on and shield your face.
“I want to sleep,” you say right off the bat, frowning at her as you try to recollect the events of the previous night.
“I know, my love but can you eat this for me? You’ll feel better once you have food in you.”
Your girlfriend slowly sits herself down on the empty space next to you; her side of the bed. You knew she was right but you felt like you had to use so much energy just to sit upright, let alone eat.
And chew.
And drink.
It all sounded so… bothersome. But then you feel Sevika leaning over to press a few kisses onto your cheek and jaw, a hand rubbing up and down your arm that was out from under the comforter. You shut your eyes as you sigh at the feeling, wishing the kisses could push away your hangover.
“15 minutes,” she places one kiss on your jaw, “and then,” another to your nose, “you can sleep all day.”
You pretend as if you weren’t already set on eating as she continues to kiss as gently as possible every square inch of your face. Your smile grows as you force out a grumbled ‘fine’ as you steadily sit upright so that your back is resting on the headboard.
“You’re too good to me, Sev,” you tell her as you rub your tired eyes, yawning as she places the tray in your lap.
Sevika hums in agreement, playfully tapping underneath your chin with a hooked finger.
“Just eat. Then I’ll leave you alone, I promise.”
“No,” you reach for her hand, intertwining your fingers. “Never leave me alone.”
Sevika can’t help the smitten flush that covers her face as she takes your intertwined hands to kiss the back of yours.
“Never.”
You weakly smile at that before digging into your eggs, toast, fruit, and Tylenol with a long and collected sigh, enjoying the flavors of it all. You look down at your sleeping attire, feeling warm at the fact that it was Sevika’s.
Whether it was drunk, sober, or mind-numbingly hungover, she always took care of you.

Traitors of Olympus IV: Fall of the Sun
Forty-Five: Euna
A Dream Catcher Would Have Been Easier
Unlike the last two times Euna took Hemera’s god-enhancing droplets, Euna didn’t try to shut out the noise.
           She listened very carefully.
As her feet struck the mud, she could hear the dying cries of the trampled grass and strawberry plants, some too mutilated to scream. She could hear the plants being crushed under Pax’s, Eris’ and Python’s foot—er—feet and snakely bodies? Yea, whatever. Those.
The transition to god mode was much smoother this time. The first time, all the plants screaming had been deafening and overwhelming.
Now, Euna could hear, with clarity, Miranda, her sister, praying for vines strong enough to hold down Python’s tail and the cries from the plants. She could sort through those prayers.
It reminded Euna of how she had tuned out years of her father’s scolding and Joey’s desperate mockery; Euna let her brain unfocus. The screams of demigods—those were outside her head, right?—those faded as easily as the hisses inside.
This must be how it is for Mom, Euna realized when her emotions for the demigods turned to apathy, and she stalked towards Phobetor.
Inside, she knew all these things—people, plants, whatever the difference—needed to die, because life relied on death. No animals could live without killing. No plants could prosper without taking the territory of another, without weeding out the trash.
That’s what Euna was going to do. Weed out the trash. Though, that made it sound like a chore, and Euna hated chores.
“Euna, oh Euna, my fair maiden—mf!”
Euna shoved a white, blooming flower into Jack’s mouth, tired of hearing him talk. She didn’t need him right now.
Phobetor stood ahead of her, a tall humanoid with a weirdly fused kiwi-bird-skull-plague-doctor-thing going on. He had recovered from where she drop-kicked him. He huffed and adjusted his Renaissance-style lord’s cap. “I beg your pardon?” Phobetor demanded again, hands trailing to his pink-and-green pokey-doted bowtie. “You’ll ‘start’ with me? Young demigod, I am the great Ikelos—“
Traitor to the Second Titan War, Backbiter hissed in her hands. She swept the scythe to the side, rotating it. Although familiar as a farming tool, she wished it was more balanced for fighting or executing.
The god seemed flustered when Euna didn’t break stride, though Euna couldn’t tell if that was from their proximity or if he’d heard Backbiter’s bitterness.
“Kronos?!” Phobetor blundered, proving it was the latter. One of his hoofed feet took a step back and he put his piccolo-hatchet to his beak. “I’ll show you your worst fear—” he started to say to Euna, and—if she was correct—he sounded desperate.
“I’ve already seen that,” Euna said. With each step, long grass sprouted at her feet, exploding up to her hips. Strawberry vines slithered around the ground, slinking towards the God of Nightmares.
Phobetor’s cheeks puffed and a high-pitched note pierced the air.
A wave of exhaustion hit Euna but, the joke was on Phobetor: she was always too tired and in need of a nap.[1]
Phobetor retreated another step. “Why aren’t you sleeping? You’re not a child of Hypnos[2] or Hecate.” He huffed, then raised the piccolo back to his lips as they curled into a smile.
           Another note.
Euna didn’t care. She was almost upon him. The grass and vines had expanded to surround them. She stroked the rosewood box in her pocket once before settling both her hands on the cool shaft of her scythe.
“Dunno,” she muttered, “Kinda hard to trick me when I know what you’re doing.”
           Hemera’s god-droplets probably didn’t hurt either.
Shuffling nearby barely caught her attention. She didn’t need to look. The grass and strawberry vines alerted her to the presence of several sleepwalking campers.
Phobetor’s smile crumbled when the strawberry vines snaked up and the grass bent to drag the campers into their thicket.
Everything was so much quieter now with sleepwalker’s shambles silenced, so much more peaceful.
Something leaked from Phobetor’s jester sleeves: aphids, beetles, caterpillars, and cabbage maggots. Things that were bad for the garden. “You are a demigod—one of Eris’ pawns! An upstart!” he cried, flinging them towards her.
           Desperately, she thought.
Euna ignored them, doubting they were real, and not caring if she was wrong. Instead, she plucked a handful of seeds from her berry crown, things she’d been gathering during her and Jack’s trip, and tossed them at Phobetor.
She closed her eyes, sensing his movements through his steps on the smashed plants and the pollen in the air.
He turned to tar, assuming her attack was immediate.
It hadn’t been. She’d been trying to learn from the whole “tact” thing that Axel taught her--the way Joey would analyze an opponent to find their weaknesses during a dojo match.
Euna settled her hand back onto Backbiter’s long staff. She exhaled, concentrating on where her plants felt Phobetor’s presence and commanding her seeds to take root and grow. She needed Phobetor’s focus on her, so these seeds could expand. She couldn’t have them explode out like the walnuts trees in Santiago’s pyramid.
Phobetor went to raise his piccolo-hatchet.
Then she lunged, swinging her scythe in a wide arc.
Her blade, Backbiter’s two-toned, blade vibrated with a solid strike.
           Phobetor screamed.
When she opened her eyes, she saw Phobetor standing several feet back. His form was half-melted. Tar dripped off a vaguely humanoid figure, the colorful minstrel adornment unraveling into shiny dribbles. There was no face underneath the kiwi skull as it clattered into the grass.
One gross, rippling hand held the stump of another. Snakes, spiders, and bugs spilled from it alongside golden ichor.
In the grass, Euna could sense his dismembered tar-puddle limb and splintered hatchet.
Ikelos, did you forget that I can permanently cut up a god, as I did Uranus? I told you my vengeance would be swift for traitors to my cause. Backbiter laughed. You coming here bodily was your end.
Phobetor stood there, stunned. When he finally recovered from his shock—that Euna had something that could really hurt him—he tried to take a step backwards.
His tar feet stuck fast. He glanced down in panic at the two splendid pitcher plants holding his feet in place—carnivorous plants with deep cavities in the shape of pitchers, dripping with sticky, digestive acid.[3] Massive flowers—stinking corpse lilies—sprouted all around the pitchers, reinforcing their weaker walls with two foot long red and white petals.[4] Tree roots erupted from the ground, twisting the petals together, pushing them up to Phobetor’s hips, sewing the pitchers and petals together like they were making a bodily cast for Phobetor.
Although hard to tell with an overdramatic puddle, Euna thought he might be shivering. Rippling? Whatever.
“You’re the one who gave us nightmares for months. You made my sister relive her death over and over again,” Euna said. With barely a tug in her gut, she commanded more corpse lilies to grow, encasing Phobetor’s waist and trapping his tar into a tightly-wrapped, leak proof, biodegradable package. Satyr-approved.
“Demigod,” Phobetor said, his voice trembling, “This is most unwise! My father will hear of this!”
She could feel Phobetor try to slip away. He abandoned his legs, letting the upper half of his body melt over the petals.
She expected he would try to run. Gods didn’t need their full bodies to exist, after all.
Euna waited patiently as part of his body sludged backwards over the corpse flowers and pitcher plants, dripping onto a larger, thinner leaf. When his melting torso made contact, the massive 10-foot wide gunnera leaf enclosed around him, making Phobetor release a muffled cry.[5]
Vines and tree roots encased the trap, reinforcing it. At her command, they lifted the wiggling gunnera leaf up, plopping it on top of the corpse lilies to make another vaguely humanoid thing. He looked funny with pitcher legs and a wiggly leaf for a body. Joey would have called it gross.
“The other gods will hear!” his muffled cry came through the leaves. “The Olympians will never rest until they know Backbiter is destroyed! Anything you do to me will get their attention—”
“You talk too much,” Euna muttered. She knelt down plucking a smaller pitcher plant from the larger ones, and scooped up the tarlike essence of his dismembered hand before it could crawl away.
“Getting their attention will save me time,” she said, setting Backbiter down. She withdrew her rosewood box and popped the lid open with her thumb.
All the vines and flowers entwined in her hair dangled towards the opening. The vortex of Kaos inside greedily suctioned everything around them; the background din of screams and battle seemed to hold its breath. The waist-high grass rustled loudly towards them.
“After I’m done here,” Euna said absently as she poured the essence of his hand into the swirl to nothingness. The Phobetor cocoon squealed, apparently able to feel his detached limb shatter into nonexistence. “I’m coming for the Olympians next.”
Euna clicked the lid closed, tuning out his shrieks like she’d tuned out the plant and gardener’s prayers. The air around them seemed to let out a relieved sigh. She put the rosewood box into her pocket, then lifted up the scythe and groaned in annoyance. If only Persephone’s box had been bigger. Cutting the God of Nightmares into pieces to shove each limb into oblivion? This was going to take forever.
Frowning, she hefted up her scythe to lob off a chunk of his head. Calex and the others better have something good planned for dinner, because after this mess she was going to be starving.

Thank you for reading! I’m sorry it’s running late. Things have been crazy *sweat drop* I hope you enjoyed despite the lateness! Stay turned (hopefully next week) for some back-to-back Ajax chapters, Keeping it Holy.

[1] Mel betanote: She’s the hulk. She’s always mad! XD
Jack: sleeptime hulk.
[2] I mixed up the god and the Pokemon for a shamefully long period of time. I got really confused when “Hypno” kept coming up as an incorrect spelling.
[3] So, I’m a huge fan of carnivorous plants. Big pitcher plants are known for eating mice, bats, and rats. These can only be found in East Malaysia, but you can get cute, baby ones in lots of other areas. (Being a fan of cute rodents as well, I prefer the smaller ones that like to snack on mosquitoes and gnats).
Mel betanote: “Oh, okay. This is based on your interests. XD All I could think about was the pokemon version because of your last note.”
Jack response, “No Victreebel for you! Only hoards of tiny Oddishes!”
[4] Corpse lilies are the biggest flowering plants in the world and one of the strongest. Also, one of the worst smelling, emitting the unnerving stench of rotting flesh. It doesn’t help their reputation that they look like something from Little Shop of Horrors.
[5] Enormous plant from Brazil, also known as “dinosaur food.” Gunnera plants are thought to be 150 million years old.

"Well, I can tell you that she's horrible and I'd never usually wanna work with her bitch ass" Ditch began
"But she knows everything about everyone, So I have a job that I'll need you to do for me" He said
"Find Lenore Rosewood, She has information we can use against anyone and more importantly?" He smirked
"Her pathetic little whiny sister is... Close with Mel and the others" He told Rochelle
Lenore Rosewood, a lootbag that lived near the outskirts of the town gaining most of her money from owning multiple butcher shops around town
Known for knowing everything about everyone and using that information as Blackmail.
Charlie giggled at nothing in particular "Thanks for this, Bets" She smiled as her mask only covered the upper part of her face allowing her mouth to be shown
She brought the small drink to her lips and took a sip "Ya really didn't need to bring yourself into me and Reese's arguments" She added
Just as Betty was about to speak, the Bartender came up to the two and placed a folded dirty yellow peice of paper in front of the two girls
"Some weird Scary lookin short guy asked me ta give this to yall" They told the two before grabbing the empty glass Charlie set down
Betty and Charlie exchanged a few looks before Betty picked up the paper...

William and Julia Dangar are always on the lookout for high visibility properties located on laneways. In a stroke of fate, their business partner from Robert Plumb Build, Bill Clifton, had just bought a house in Bondi, alerting them to the rundown property next door meeting this very description. They soon decided to buy it. ‘We thought we could do a wonderful collaborative couple of buildings sitting together, that we call siblings,’ explains William.
The post-war house was in a state of disrepair at the time of purchase, requiring the majority to be demolished. Only the facade of the semi-detached facade and the original front room have been retained, joined by a contemporary concrete, glass, steel and metal mesh building. Materials were recycled where possible, with all of the bricks from the demolished rear recovered and cleaned on site.
Andrew Burges Architects were engaged to design the home, blurring indoors and out for a perfect Sydney summer experience. The interiors are a collaboration between David Harrison and Karen McCartney, introducing white washed reclaimed brick walls and generous linen curtains, combined with a mix of designer and vintage furniture (including pieces from the couple’s other business, Robert Plumb) and carefully considered lighting. The use of minimal, natural materials creates a simultaneously relaxed and sophisticated aesthetic.
As one of Australia’s leading landscape designers and director of Dangar Barin Smith, the garden was an obvious priority for William. Offsetting the industrial materials of the home are mature trees surrounding the house, along with a range of succulents and cacti on the ground level and first floor roof. The curvaceous form of the extension allows the garden to continue lengthways down the site, accommodating an existing Bismarck Palm, and creating a close connection to the interiors.
Among William’s favourite things about this home are the way it invites the sun in year-round, with beautiful north-east breezes during summer. The family also love the positioning of the home on the site, which opens the property up to its adjoining north-facing laneway. ‘The large kitchen window opens up to the community and allows us to interact with passers by,’ Will explains.
When asked what the biggest challenge of this project was, William says, ‘Controlling the budget, (we didn’t)’ and ‘not over capitalising, (we did).’ Looking at the incredible end result, we have to assume it was all worth it!
With a celebrated career spanning 25 years, William Dangar is one of three esteemed judges in the Landscape Design category of The Design Files + Laminex Design Awards 2020. Entries close next Friday May 15th – learn more here!

Get your GLOW on with Dior
You guys know about my lifelong obsession with lip products and I’ve gone on record stating I can’t go on without something on my lips. I always start with my classic Rosebud Salve and top it off with lipstick. When I can get my hands on a product that combines both lip care + lip color, and apply one product for both steps, I’ll count that as a win ;)
Tumblr media
I got my hands on the Dior Lip Glow balms and I’m *in love.* They react with the unique chemistry of your lips for a natural flush of color that looks different on everyone. My fave colors are cult-classic 001 Pink Glow and 006 Berry. If you have darker skin, I definitely recommend the darker hues like Berry, Raspberry and Rosewood. I also really want to try the Coral!
Tumblr media
These are formulated with hydrating mango butter, so they’re the first thing I put on my lips on days when I’m going for a natural make-up look and I don’t even need my rosebud salve first. I love watching my lips turn to that rosy pink glow. To see this in action, watch my application video on my Instagram here.
Tumblr media
If you’re someone who doesn’t fuss with her lips or you don’t wear lipstick but still want to spoil yourself with something fancy - you’ll love this Lip Glow. You can get it on sale during Sephora’s Spring Savings Event, going on this week. Depending on your tier, you can save 10% - 20% off, as broken-down below when you use the code SPRINGSAVE at checkout. I’ll be stocking up on makeup and skincare products during the event, I’m PSYCHED! If you're VIB Rouge, you can take 20% off now through May 1st. VIB (my status) takes 15% off until April 29th and the Insider tier gets 10% off today through April 27th.
I’ve linked this product and my other fave Dior Beauty goodies (Diorshow anyone!?) below. Enjoy! Xoxo, Mel

HOUSE SHOW TOUR 2017
Once again I’ve been out on a run of dates (house shows and venue shows) across Canada and, once again, I’ve returned home with a load of stories, new friends and a full heart.
A very special thank you to: The Larsen-Nantel’s - This was the first house show of the tour and it was such a great way to start things off. I’ve been friends with the hosts for a while so not only did I know them, but I also knew a few of the attending guests as well. It was a great night and I left feeling excited for the rest of the tour. The Capitol Ballroom - This was the first venue on the tour and the first time I’d played live with a drummer and a bass player accompanying me in almost 4 years. We had a great time playing and meeting everyone after the show. We thoroughly enjoyed the opening band Ocie Elliott as well. It was great to be playing back on the island again.
The Fox Cabaret - We made it back to Vancouver the next day for another show as a trio. Despite my nerves we had a great time playing for everyone. A huge thank you to Darren Parris and Ali Siadat for playing with me on those two shows. I hope to be performing with a band a lot more in the future!
The Dream Cafe - After a few days off my friend Dave Warne and I headed up to Penticton for the next show. I played two 45 minute sets to a full room of great folks. I had a terrific time and was pleasantly surprised to find out that we were being put up in the suite above the venue for the night. Great food, great people, good show.
The Almanac - We drove to Edmonton for the next show and shared the night with some incredibly talented artists. Cory Danyluk started off the evening, Barry and Michelle Patterson with their son Sam were next, then Steph Cameron played. They all played solid sets. It was great to get to listen to everyone play. I had an amazing time and I hope I get to come back again soon.
The House of Commons - Next was a house show in Calgary. The House of Commons is a great little spot where a group of people live together and are very active in their community. They put on house shows, they have free dinners for the homeless, and they just do life together. I’d played there years ago on a tour with my good friend, Zaac Pick and it was so nice to be back again. We spent the night and headed off the next morning - back towards Edmonton.
The Hoffos’ - My second cousin and his family live just outside of Edmonton and they were kind enough to come to our show at The Almanac and then put Dave and I up for two days even though we weren’t performing at their place. We had such a blast spending time with them. They are an amazing family and our two days together just flew by. Apart from the scotch, card games, great food, jam sessions, swords, and hot tubs, we also got to join my cousin in a high school science class where we saw real cow lungs being inflated and a dissection of a cows heart! It was awesome.
The Brandon’s - Our next show was back in Calgary. I’d played at this home twice before so it was great to be back again. Our host is amazing at making people feel at home and has said that she wants her home to be like a B&B for traveling musicians. Dave and I had a great time playing for them and, when they surprised us by insisting on a second full set we happily (read: nervously) obliged! It went super well and we had a great time with everyone. The McKenzie’s - We had another house show in Calgary the next night. We arrived to find a house full of lovely and welcoming people. We ate a great dinner, played the show, and had a few drinks. Even though it was our first time meeting the McKenzie’s, they quickly put us at ease and made us feel like old friends. Great folks, and a really lovely night.
Elliot Home + Lifestyle - We drove to Medicine Hat for our next show. We played in a lovely little shop on a cold windy night. The show was opened by the amazingly talented, Kyle Church (check him out!), and then we took the stage. Everyone was so attentive, it was such a fun show. We stood around afterwards swapping stories and meeting everyone before heading off and driving through the night to make it home the next day. The Parker’s - After a few days off at home, Dave and I flew out to Toronto and met up with the Parker’s. They’d also hosted me in the past so it was great to get to see them again. We played the show at their friends place where I met two of my biggest fans - the sons of our host who were around the ages of 6 and 8. We had a great time playing for everybody before heading back to the Parker’s to watch a movie in their famous garage/theatre. It was another good night. The Dakota - The next night we played a show at The Dakota in Toronto. We played two sets and had a wonderful time. We met a lot of new people and saw some old friends as well. It was such a fun night. The crowd was great, the staff were great and we just loved getting to play for everyone. Jesse Milns - The next day was a day off but my record label had been able to schedule a photoshoot with a very talented young photographer in the city. I was hesitant as I really don’t like pictures of myself but Jesse was a breeze to work with and we actually had a lot of fun. I was immediately put at ease with him and we had a great time. Chris & Heather - We didn’t play a show at their house, but Chris and Heather are friends of ours and they kindly let Dave and I stay with them for the two nights we were in town. It’s amazing how much of an impact getting to stay with friends has on you when you’re on the road. Not only does it save you the cost of a hotel, but it also helps your overall mental state. I can’t thank them (or the rest of our friends who have put us up on this tour, or any other) enough. Maxwell’s - Our next show was in Waterloo. We arrived to find a great room and lovely staff. Our opener was a really nice guy named Ryan Valentine who played a great set before we took the stage. It was a solid turnout and I was happy to get to meet just about everybody at the merch table after the show. I hope we get to come back and do it again soon. The Rosewood Room - We drove to London for our next show. I’d never been to The Rosewood Room so I didn’t know what to expect but it was a great little venue and the crowd was awesome. The openers were two local acts (Cameron Jericho and Brock Laroque) and we enjoyed listening to them before we played our set. It was so nice getting to meet everyone afterwards. Tonhof Productions - Next we made our way to Listowel for a house show. Jasmin and Tracey (the two halves of Tonhof Productions) had hosted a house show of mine on the last tour, but I’d had to leave right after the show to catch a flight back in Toronto. It had been disappointing to have had to leave right away and it had stuck with me so I was very happy when they booked another show and I knew that we didn’t need to leave right after the performance. We had a great time playing the show and were treated to a delicious dinner and breakfast the next day before heading out. They were great. The Blacksheep Inn - Our next show was in Wakefield, Quebec. I’d never been but I’d heard really good things about the town and also about the venue in particular. Once we’d arrived it became obvious why that was. The staff were amazing and the venue was incredible. We had a terrific turnout on a Sunday night and were thrilled to get to play for everybody. It was such a fun night meeting everyone, seeing a few old friends and getting to play at a wonderful spot. I hope we can do it again soon! Mel & Mark - A couple of Dave’s friends who I’d never met before (but who I’m claiming as my friends now, too) put us up in town after the show and fed us dinner and breakfast. It was so kind of them and it meant so much to me. Zach & Brie - We had the next two nights off in Montreal and had the chance to stay with more lovely friends. We stayed up late at Dieu Du Ciel enjoying some amazing beers, we went to a Nordic spa on a boat, and we got to see a bunch of our pals who live there. It was perfect. The Young’s - We drove from Montreal to Cape Breton for our next show. I was fighting a cold but we arrived to find that we’d be playing a house show in an amazing house right on a lake. The host and I had been trying to book a house show for years so I was very happy that we’d managed to finally make it happen. But I felt really bad being sick. We played the show and everyone was so kind. It was a lot of fun but I’m determined to do it again healthy! Pam, Mark, Rodney & Celeste - The next house show was in Sydney, NS. We were playing in the town firehall. Our hosts were two amazing couples who were some of the most hospitable people I’ve ever met. My cold was getting much worse and they gave me water, whiskey, Buckley’s and tissues. We played two sets that night and had a great time  - but again, I felt so bad being sick, I am equally as determined to come back and play another show for them when I’m healthy! We ate like kings before heading to bed and left the next day already excited to come back. The Carleton - The next show was supposed to be in Halifax but I woke up on the day of the show and my voice was almost a full octave lower than normal. I couldn’t sing when I tried and I was very saddened to have to cancel the show. I hated letting the folks down who were planning on coming to the show but it just wasn’t possible and my health was not improving. I spent the next 2 days in a hotel eating chicken soup, drinking litres and litres of water (with some Buckley’s as well), and sleeping as much as possible. My deepest apologies again for any inconvenience cause by the cancellation of the show in Halifax. The folks from the Carleton were incredibly understanding and so kind about the whole thing. I’m already looking into how I can come back asap and make it up to everyone! Grimross Brewing, Roots & Soul Music Promotions, and Side Door - Our next show was in Fredericton. Our host was a great guy named Eddie who somehow transformed a warehouse into the most intimate room with a great vibe. It was my first time ever playing there and I was very excited for the show. I wasn’t fully better yet, but I was determined to play the show and get back to performing. Dave and I loved getting to play for everyone and the crowd was fantastic. There were a lot of friends there as Dave had gone to University in a town close by so we got to see a bunch of familiar faces and meet a bunch of new people as well. It was great. Also, Side Door is a company that puts on house shows and they were fantastic to work with. It was a good night. A big thank you to Preetam Sengupta for a great opening set as well. Greg & Linda - More amazing friends who were willing to put us up for the night. We headed out the next day for a long drive from Fredericton to Inkerman, ON. Greg and Linda were old friends of Dave’s but it was my first time meeting them. We stayed up a bit, having some drinks, telling some stories and playing some music. It was an absolute pleasure meeting them and I was so grateful to them for letting us stay over. The Keon’s/MacFarlane’s - If you’ve read any of my previous house show updates or thank-you’s then you’ve probably read about the wonderful and crazy adventures I have had with these lovely folks. Even though they weren’t scheduled to host a house show, they were willing to put us up for a night before we had to head out to Toronto the next day. We got there around 7 and had dinner before sitting out by a fire in the backyard. We had some drinks and Dave and I ended up sitting in the back of a 6-wheeler with some more beers while our host drove around the property looking for wild turkey’s nesting in the trees. It was fantastic. We didn’t get to bed until almost 4am, but it was well worth it. Chris & Heather (again!) - We drove back to Toronto and our amazing friends put us up again for another two days. I had to do a video shoot on one of our days off, but they were super flexible and accommodating. We had a great time seeing them again and the two days went by too fast. It was so kind of them to put us up. David Schuurman (Ball of Yarn Films), The Field, Nettwerk, Amber Amar, & Sarah Davidson-Gurney - All of these amazing folks came together to make it possible for me to be able to shoot two music videos on a day off while we were in Toronto. It wouldn’t have been possible without each of them and I am very grateful to everyone involved for making it happen! It was a similar thing to working with Jesse. I don’t like being on camera, but David and his team made it really easy and it went well! I can’t wait to share the new videos. Jonathan, Jon & Season - We played a house show in Toronto next and it was another great night. We had dinner with the hosts and a few of their friends and then hung out with them before the show. We had a great turnout and everyone was so kind - it was a pleasure to get to perform for them. We had lots of great conversations before heading out and staying with our friends, The Mighty River, who were also playing in town (check them out, too!). The MacDonald’s - Our next house show was in the small town of Tavistock. We met our host and had a lovely dinner with her before her guests arrived and we played the show. We stayed up talking and laughing and telling a few ghost stories - it was a lot of fun. Pyung, Scotty, & Danny - We played our next house show in London, ON. Our hosts were a couple young guys who were all attending the local university and we had a great time meeting them, playing for them and hanging out as well. There might’ve been some beer pong involved later on in the night. I can’t remember who won though.. The McPherson’s - This was a special show. It was the 4th time these lovely folks had hosted me for a house show and it was so nice to see them all again. We had a great time playing for them and their guests and it was so nice getting to see some familiar faces in the crowd. We hung out for a little while afterwards before heading out and getting some sleep. Hopefully we get to do it again at the cottage next time! The Boyle’s - This was the 2nd time I’d played a house show at this host’s home. It was another beautiful night. Our host has a knack for surrounding himself with truly amazing and loving people and that really shone through on this night. It was so good to see him again and so good to get to play for him and his friends/family. Plus, mimosa’s and jazz for breakfast the next day was pretty classy. The Huston’s - We drove to Strathroy for our next show and arrived to find a shed next to the house full of chairs, Christmas lights and a wood stove nicely warming the room. Immediately the place had a very good feel to it. I was really blown away by the hosts hospitality and their kindness - and also by the kindness of their guests. It was like stepping into a very special community and immediately being made a part of it. They’ve been putting on shows in their shed as a part of their #shedconcertseries for a little while and it was an honour to get to join the list of musicians who have played there. A special night and one I hope we can recreate again in the future! The Jillard’s and Side Door -  Our next show was in Hamilton in the home of a local luthier. This was the 2nd Side Door show on the tour and we had a great time playing it. We played the show to a lovely group of folks and then the host and I stayed up for a bit sipping whiskey and having a really great conversation. It was good for the soul. Miriam, Glenn and Side Door - We headed to Peterborough for our next show. We met our hosts and set up for the show. We had some delicious Thai food for dinner and spent most of the meal laughing and taking turns telling stories. After dinner the guests arrived and we had a great time playing to everyone. It was a really nice night. The Hall’s - Our last two shows on this tour were at the Equator Coffee shops in Almonte and Westboro. The owner is related to me and she and her family were kind enough to put Dave and I up for the whole time we were in Ottawa. We had a great time at both of the shows and it was so nice to get to end the tour with family. Dave Warne - Lastly, I would like to thank my dear friend Dave for joining me on this long tour. Dave and I had never toured together before this run of dates and I haven’t spent a lot of time playing my songs with other musicians. Whatever nerves I had about our performances or about being stuck in a car with one other person for seven weeks were not just put to rest - they were blown away. Dave is a fantastic musician and a great guy but, much more than that, Dave is a very good friend. I wouldn’t have been able to make it all the way through without him on this one. Also, there’s not a long list of people who are willing (or able) to jump onto a seven week tour across Canada with less then a months heads up - to sleep in strangers homes and sketchy motels for 50 days, learning all the songs on the fly and living out of a bag the entire time, but Dave just nailed it. I can’t say thank you enough to all my hosts and the venues and to everyone else who was involved in this tour. Coming out to a show, buying some merch, sharing my songs, streaming my music or just offering a kind word means so much. It’s how I get to keep doing this and without you all I wouldn’t be able to, so.. THANK YOU! I hope to do another house show tour in 2018. More soon, -joshua
