Toto: Do you know her? (Referring to Fin Fennec)
Ron: Yes. That should not surprise her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ron: I am going to change my clothes.
Toto: Uhm…
~
Toto: What kind of person is this Dr. Hirsch? (Swallows)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fin Fennec: We begin asking the relatives.
Toto: Certainly!
~
Shachi: What? You are turning a blind eye when it comes to Kamonohashi, Madame!
Volume 7 intermission flaps, DE version
That Ron and Toto still refer to each other with the formal Sie/Ihnen makes me think, “you are saving each other’s lives and you still Siezen?!”
When are they going to say “du” to each other?
Bonus ….
Toto’s birthday presents from Ron, Amamiya, Spitz, Kawasemi san, Dr. Mofu and Chicory from Chapter 58
Tumblr media
Ron: the 100-meter scarf he knitted all by himself when the two of them first learned to know each other from Chapter 1
Amamiya: a pack of white bread with beans that could last for 10 days, only the due date was next day.
Spitz: incense sticks with mugwort essence
Kawasemi: a custom-made tweezer-shaped throw pillow that could fit Toto’s head
Dr. Mofu: a wrecked self-baked cake because of her clumsiness
Chicory: a T-shirt from her favourite TV program “Seibu Keisatsu,” a Japanese police detective drama series in the ‘80s.
Ron would like to know which of the gifts Toto had received that was off the track based on the number of beads of sweat on Toto’s face.
Toto: Don’t ask this kind of strange questions. Of course, all the presents made me happy. (Sweating profusely)
They are so cute.

Meisterdetektiv Ron Kamonohashi, Episodes 1 & 2: The jump from Sie to Du
Episode 1: The meet-cute
The German dub of Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions started to air two Tuesdays ago, 14th of February, on Crunchyroll. It is now titled “Meisterdetektiv Ron Kamonohashi.”
So far I cannot complain. The first episode had been released and it was executed really well. Dialogue author Ness Gerung added more grit to Toto’s lines making him say what he really thinks.
This is during RonToto’s first meeting, take note of their use of formal form Sie:
Ron: Sagen Sie Kiku? (Did you say Kiku?)
Toto: Ein Obdachloser! (A homeless person!)
Ron: Vorurteile haben Sie keine was? (You aren’t prejudiced, are you?)
Toto: Aber das kann nicht sein. Sie sehen wie Struwwelpeter. (But that cannot be. You look like Struwwelpeter.)
Struwwelpeter is a famous children’s book from German-speaking countries written by Heinrich Hoffmann that was published in 1845. The story, gruesome as it is, traumatised a few children. Imagine the unsanitised version of Grimm Brothers fairytales.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, picture Ron with this Struwwelpeter hair.
Like what I’ve wished and kinda expected, the dubbed German version made sure that RonToto dropped the formalities after their first case.
On this particular sound byte, Ron not only thanked Toto after the latter saved the culprit but he praised him as well.
“Du bist echt klasse, Toto!” (You are really great, Toto!”)
Tumblr media
The manga version still insists that these two maintain their distance while being partners, which boggles me. RonToto have so many instances where they are about to sacrifice each other and the German translator doesn’t acknowledge those things. Can you imagine reading the Plateau Auberge arc and they are still as formal as ever?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So from Siezen to duzen. A huge plus that due to the dialogue provided in the anime dub, their interaction seems to be much closer than in the German version of the manga.
I wonder how it is in the other languages of the manga.

Meisterdetektiv Ron Kamonohashi, Episodes 3, 4 & 5: that uncanny similarity
Something, something about Spitz Feier’s voice that makes me think his German VA and Ron’s are one and the same. But apart from this, the execution was really good.
The informal addressing between the two definitely adds to this story to lend it an intimate touch between RonToto. Also, if they made Toto a smug in the anime, the German dub made him 20 times more.
On episode 5, Ron calls himself Toto’s “knight.”
Toto: Hast du dich schon wieder verkleidet? (Did you disguise yourself again?)
Ron: Ja. Dein Ritter als dir zur Hilfe. (Your Knight to help you.)
Tumblr media
They totally obliterated the part where Ron called Toto on his phone, who was on the verge of self-doubt due to Kawasemi. I forgot to include it when I analysed the second episode after it came out.

Meisterdetektiv Ron Kamonohashi, Episodes 6, 7 & 8: Toto curses! OMG!
Episode 6: The Live Broadcast Murder
“Shit! Hast du eine Bindehautentzündung?” (Do you have conjunctivitis?) Toto exclaimed as he saw again his friend with pink red eyes at the opening of episode 6.
I was a bit taken aback with German-dubbed Toto Isshiki. He’s so generous using cuss words. It feels like he’s used to it when he’s in a pinch or in an unpleasant situation that it comes out from his mouth automatically. What would his Oma say?
There’s a particular reason why it made me 100 per cent convinced that Youhei Azakami truly embodies Ron’s voice. Not only he was playful when he sang his daba-daba-du, but during the Live Broadcast Murder arc, Azakami’s rendition—the way he gasped and then called out Toto’s name—is more dramatic, pronounced, and dare I say, erotic that reminds me more of the voice he uses when he does his BL CDs. I love it. I love, love, love it! There is a desperate ring to it, as if half of him had died.
However, Ron’s German dub is urgent, a matter of fact, very surprised, alarmed.
I guess, it helps when one is a singer, which Azakami is.
Yet, overall, German-dub Ron’s delivery of his incoming depression at the tail end of the case is almost the same like the original JP version.
“Toto, ich kann nicht.”
When Ron DE dub replied to Toto’s declaration that they shouldn’t stop doing it because they are doing the right thing, I felt that. Then Toto showed the invitation that made me think, “is the anime really setting up something different from the manga?”!
Toto: Die lag in meinem Briefkasten. Es steht LEIDER keinen Absender dabei aber es macht ja nichts. (I found the invitation in my post box. Unfortunately there’s no sender’s name. But that doesn’t matter.)
ES MACHT NICHTS???
Toto, wouldn’t you feel a bit suspicious? Were you part of this conspiracy?
Toto again: Wir brauchen einen Tapetenwechsel, ja. Natürlich werde ich dich begleiten. (We need a change of scenes. Of course, I am going to accompany you.)
Natürlich.
Ron: Wir beide werden zuckersüße Träume haben. (We are going to have sweet dreams.)
It really sounded as if they spent somewhere for a getaway for the two of them alone.
Episode 7
I realised that upon watching the anime again, there is this part where Toto was so taken of Princess Ori that Ron’s opening the dome’s roof was intentional. Toto was so mesmerised of the Orion Constellation idol that Onadera then said after seeing Toto’s face that just by watching Princess Ori he became an astronomy fan and Ron found a way to interrupt it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, did I say that I am loving the fact that this Toto is fond of cursing.
Fuck ! Said Toto upon seeing what transpired inside the dome and thinking that Ron was hurt or worse dead.
RonToto called Orihime as Vega in German dub.
When Toto ran outside to begin searching for evidence to exonerate Ron, instead of “to investigate of course!” Toto’s reply was a resolute “Dir dein arsch (zu) retten!”! (To save your ass!)
Episode 8
I cannot believe that German dub Ron really said: “No shit Sherlock !” We know this moniker, but Ron sounded as if he was making fun of his ancestor. 😼
It is very noticeable how the silence in between the conversation of John Grizzly and Toto dominated the scenes. Grizzly tried to scrutinise RonToto’s relationship that took Toto by surprise because what could he say he didn’t know this person much.
All in all it was a decent German dub.
PS:
I forgot to add that during the second episode, when Ron assured Amamiya that Toto would solve the Piggybank murder case, he told Toto’s boss :
“You can go home, Frau Amamiya!”
Proof that Ron in the anime doesn’t have any interest on the female police officer.

German-speaking RKDD fans, aufgepasst!
Starting this week, Crunchyroll launched the second season to have German language dub. Episode 14 is ready. So if you want to watch it in German, now you can.
Tumblr media
Personally, I watch it still in its original Japanese version, but I am curious if there will be differences. I’ll find out. This will be a good time to check what are they going to do with the Plateau Auberge arc.

Taku Yashiro, fresh from “Undead Girl Murder Farce” as the Oni killer Tsugaru Shinuchi, whose voice was almost theatrical, will be back on the second of October. This time as Spitz Feier. Hear the difference?

Meister Detektiv Ron Kamonohashi: Episodes 12 & 13
Or Ron cursed too! (Gasp!)
Episode 12
Last Tuesday ended the German dub for RKDD and so far I have noticed one and only difference between the original Japanese and the English anime translation and the German version on the 12th episode.
If the Japanese version and its English translation are to be followed, it could only mean that Ron and Toto count themselves as partners already in which Ron confirmed, “I'm not done with the place yet. But this way, we can invite clients here, or anyone other than the two of us, right? And our inaugural first client... is Spitz!”
The difference between JP, EN and DE.
Whereas, the dub followed the German-language manga.
Tumblr media
Ron is so angry that he let out a curse. Methinks the German-language dialogue editor really had fun and run with it.
Tumblr media
I always find this sequence so intriguing. The possibility that Ron faked his anger is of course high. But deep inside his emotions sometimes get the best of him. The reason he tries to remind himself that a good investigator never lets his emotions on the way.
Is Toto jealous bc compared to him Spitz is more open to have a taste of Ron’s black sugar-soaked foods?
Episode 13
I laughed when Florian Hoffmann (Ron’s DE voice actor) added this ad-lib.
I found that it was a nice touch to change “Ron…” to “Alles okay?” (Is everything okay?) One could sense Toto’s concern about his friend mired in that deadly situation with no apparent way out. Sebastian Fitzner, who voiced Toto, delivered it with so much feeling that the viewers had this idea his world would break down if something would happen to Ron.
(A fun fact that Sebastian Fitzner also serves as Ciel Phantomhive’s German VA.)
All in all, I enjoyed the German version and it would be a pity to miss it. The only irritation I had was Spitz’s voice was almost similar to Ron’s and somehow I couldn’t discern the difference, but yes, like what I’ve said, ich habe Spaß gehabt, die Serie auf Deutsch zu sehen.
Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Brace yourselves, German-speaking peeps. Es kommt bald eine deutsche Synchronisierung. ( x )
It is entirely expected as the tankōbon is also released in German language.
We will soon hear a German-speaking RonToto and the whole gang.

I read a post that Toto and Ron are already on a first-name basis on the first episode of the anime version, but that’s the trick with the English language because in the German version the two are still addressing each other in formal Sie.
