DAISUKE YUKIMURA (nico hiraga) doesn’t really think he’s the town’s heartthrob, or the school’s heartthrob. but he is. it’s because he’s genuinely nice and effortlessly cool. (or so he’s been told. really, he’s just himself. falls and all. but he gets back up again, regardless. udyati’s got the blooper reel footage of him falling off of his skateboard on her phone to prove it!) skating aside, daisuke has quite the strategic mind and enjoys riddles and tactic puzzles. and pizza. he can listen to his older brother, chizuru, for hours. he also enjoys letting meilin and his younger sister, emiko, work their make-up magic on him. he’s very comfortable with himself, his body, his masculinity and his surroundings. his favorite season is summer. he’s a bicon, has a chronic hero complex (and is coming to terms with the fact that there is more than one way to be a hero, even without powers) and has known udyati since pre school.

XIOMARA LOPEZ (herizen guardiola) is a ray of sunshine. her upbringing was a bit sheltered, but her parents are kind hearted, and warm people and when she came out as a lesbian, they hugged her, and gently asked her if she told her friends yet. currently, she’s working on, you know, working up the nerve to ask out that pretty girl that she likes. you know, the one with red hair and bright eyes. she likes everyone in the group, but she mostly graviates towards skyler; they’re the quietest of them all. they’re kinda on the same wavelength. though xiomara is sweet, and kind, and all around pleasant, it has been noted that she can be quite stubborn, as well as ferocious when getting upset, despite the fact that she has three quarters of a lung. (that is to say, she has two lungs, but only one of them works at full capacity; the other one only has three quarters to work with.)

UDYATI RAO (maitreyi ramakrishnan) didn’t waste any time when she found out what she could do. to this day, her friends are the first people she’s told. thus far, they’re the only people she’s told about her powers and her heritage. udyati has a big heart and would go through fire for the friends she’s made off planet, as well as her childhood friends. they were the first people to know about her sexuality too. in fact, they were the ones to get her the well worn and well loved bracelet with the pansexual flag colors that she wears on her wrist to this day. udyati is stubborn - a trait she has in common with most, if not all, of her friends. however, she needs to learn that not everyone can be saved, and that not everyone wants to be saved, either.

MEILIN CHANG (chase sui wonders) has long since decided a few things: she’s too cool for labels, she belongs on a stage, and one day, her name will be in the guinness book of records because she’s binged the majority of the shows that netflix (and / or disney plus) has to offer. meilin spends a lot of time at the rao residence and has spent nights there, too. her parents - as much as she loves them, and she loves them a lot - are always one fight away from a divorce. to distract herself from this knowledge, she bugs udyati, and practices her make-up skills on daisuke together with his younger sister, emiko. a back-up plan is necessary, and if meilin doesn’t make it as an actress, she figures she can always become a make-up artist.

SKYLER JENSEN (jaren lewison) is the certified smart guy of this team. he’s always questioning everything and believes in the scientific method. he’s also the group’s designated study buddy and has helped udyati out with her mathematics homework more than once. he knows his parents love him, but they’re busy people too, so he gets that look of lonliness that crosses udyati’s features sometimes. he sees the very same look on his own face every time he looks in the mirror. skyler recently came out as demisexual and is debating whether or not he should get himself a bracelet too. and if he does get himself a bracelet, well, maybe he should get the others some bracelets too. ever since udyati told him about her powers and heritage, he’s been curious about the pishachas. he’d like to study them. just, you know, from a safe distance. so they don’t eat him. because it would be really unfortunate to deprive the world of his amazing brain.

(cue meilin and xiomara laughing in the background while udyati dramatically turns her nose up as she attempts and fails to get out of the plastic merry go round that is obviously for kids and not at all suited for five teenagers)

skyler: “actually, that was my suggestion...”

udyati: (dramatic gasp, accidentally falls off of the merry go round)

udyati: “i’m okay!”

i feel like i might’ve made a headcanon about it before but udyati’s favorite season is summer and it’s not just because of the sun, and summer vacation, and amma being home more. it’s also because of the fact that each year, there is a big summer festival in katendam. and there is always a carnival parade down town too. all the ladies and men on the floats are decked out in beautiful, colorful, sparkly outfits. there is always food, and drinks, and good music, and dancing people at the sidelines, watching the floats pass by. udyati and her friends go each year and always have a good time. it’s one of their many, many traditions.

udyati is trilingual, she can speak hindi, english and dutch. daisuke is bilingual. he speaks english and japanese. meilin is also trilingual, as she speaks mandarin, cantonese and english. xiomara is bilingual too and speaks spanish and english and skyler is trilingual as well. he speaks hebrew, english and dutch. currently, the friend group is trying to teach each other their respective languages. it’s not without hiccups and hijinks, though. and laughter. lots and lots of laughter.
