Transformers, in this continuity, have been on Earth for 15-30 years or so, and people know about them, and we know comics and merch of them already exist in this universe

Which means canonically, megop yaoi fics almost certainly exist

Some SG! TFOne Ideas

Now that I'm done with "Did I Ever Really Know You?" and I am still currently watching Transformers: Animated for another fanfic, I'll just be listing down some of my Shattered Glass AU ideas (to also help me cause otherwise there is a chance I will forget or swap concepts by accident lmao).

SG!Megatron (or D-16 cause he's not yet Megatron) being a medic/scientist for the High Guard/Decepticons at first since he has no reason to usurp Starscream. Also he is either Shockwave's apprentice or he's genuinely just winging it because no one in the High Guard is a scientist and he has to step up with only his own intelligence to help him lmao

SG!Megatron also has wings since his alt is a Cybertronian jet instead of a tank (this is based off of the canon SG where his alt is the jet and the tank). He eventually does get the tank alt when he becomes the official leader of the High Guard/Decepticons. For the meantime though, he only has one alt - and his cannons are attached to his wings instead of his arm.

SG!OP is ruling Iacon as the sole Prime. He is currently on the path of historical revisionism. Like, he's changing the records to make it so that Sentinel never existed - almost as though the Golden Age of the Primes never ended. The 13 Primes still died to the Quintessons according to the historical records, and OP is just their sole prodigy/heir who took up the mantle after they died.

SG!Starscream remains the leader of the High Guard/Decepticons for a good while - because he's genuinely a good mech here (albeit still his usual self just more serious) and is a good leader. He's only removed as leader when... he dies. Because for some reason in Shattered Glass canon he dies, so he will also die here. Optimus kills him, which forces D-16 to eventually become Megatron.

I debated for a while if D-16 even names himself after Megatronus Prime here cause he's not really a Megatronus fanboy in my SG AU (I'm sorry, very scandalous I know). But I decided that yeah he would name himself after Megatronus (if only to keep his canonical name) and also because I realized it's not really fair to make ALL the 13 Primes warmongers instead of making them more nuanced.

Speaking of, while most of the 13 Primes are still warmongers (aka they started the war with the Quintessons), SG!Megatronus Prime - instead of being the strongest Prime - would have been the Primes' diplomat. Like he was the most intellectually smart among them and capable of using his words to get what the Primes want (they just failed to do that with the Quintessons).

The High Guard does model themselves after Megatronus (who is the least violent Prime) because at least he was always willing to negotiate or use diplomatic approaches before resorting to violence. Plus I think he's probably the most chill Prime that the High Guard remembers, and they def tell D-16 lots of stories about him enough that D-16 names himself after him eventually.

Also this just a funny idea but I like to think that SG!Sentinel - before the 13 Primes were killed - was just a really overworked and tired assistant. Like I like to imagine he was going to quit the day the 13 Primes died and he just had to go along with what the Quintessons wanted even though he really just wants to retire/go on a vacation. Well... at least he's resting in peace forever now.

Actually, SG!Megatron doesn't have a savior complex towards SG!OP (same way TFOne Megatron loses his savior tendencies towards Pax). Instead, I'm giving the savior complex to SG!OP who thinks Megatron is just misguided and is actively trying to "help" him see that OP is the rightful ruler of Iacon. Megatron is just very tired of his crazy ex trying to kidnap him every other day lmao

SG!OP still has D-16's old arm that he accidentally chopped off when OP was trying to kill Sentinel. The only one who knows about this is Bee (who is genuinely freaked the fuck out about it, and if he wasn't scared of being killed, he def would have told other mechs about this). SG!OP also keeps the broken headlight injury where D-16 first shot him with a cannon as another remembrance.

Okay so, I am generally a canon reader. It’s mostly because I don’t seek out fanfics and don’t really use AO3 (I am a comic reader my ADHD needs pictures LFMAO) but I have read a few fanfics because some of them are so…oouhhrhrhd loves… So if I ever get recommended fanfics I��ll probably read them :3

I mean I ship a lot of characters. I don’t know if I have an OTP though. Also because most of my ships are just canon stuff like Drift x Ratchet, Chromedome x Rewind, Tailgate x Cyclonus, Knockout x Breakdown, stuff like that. (Can you tell that I’m a gay man?) BUT!! I am also an enjoyer of Megop/Oplita/Megoplita. Half canon implied but yk. Also enjoy a more Ace relationship Wavewave. AND HUUUGE enjoyer of Skystar oh my GOD my two little scientists. Swagnus also kinda funny BAHABH. So OTP may be Skyfire and Starscream ngl. (Then I also have one with my oc x Whirl but shhh…my oc isn’t really canon so I don’t count it HAHA)

The show that I LEAST liked is gonna be hard ngl. I am generally a very positive person and I like to see the good over the bad I guess xD. Like I could say I really do not like the Bayverse generally but that’s not really a show. So UUUGHH I’ll probably say Headmasters? Mostly because it was…uhm…a bit weird. BAHABAH. Like there’s a lot of weird shit in shows but honestly It just threw me off so bad. There was a bunch of toxic masculinity and stuff but oh well, I guess that’s the 80’s for you. At least the unofficial dub was funny as hell.

I have never been to a tfcon no. I suffer from Europeanism and brokeness.

But ig a bit extra, I have watched all (official) transformers media, plus going through all (official) transformers comics. Yippee!! That’s it, I love yapping, thanks for the questions. Hi, I'm Red.

Recently got into the transformers fandom by a friend who made me watch TF:One. Then he made me read the Shattered Glass comics so now I'm hooked. First time seeing an actual canonical/official role reversal au so I'm genuinely interested in it.

SG!Megatron is my favorite cause he's a mathematician, which is such a funny contrast to the Megatron I've seen in TF:One as well as other continuities. Also really love TF:One!Megatron, he has a really interesting origin story that I like, also can't help but sympathize with him at some points. Plus, in any continuity, his relationship with Optimus is just so intriguing. I love doomed relationships so much, and TF:One really catered to that. SG not so much but SG!Optimus is so crazy that I can't help but be interested in SG!MegOP too, even if they aren't doomed like TF:One!MegOP. Probably why I like the idea of an SG TF:One AU.

You mostly draw Megatron with Crusade in his Cybertronian look but in your canons it was said that while carrying the spark Megs wore his Marauder look. Did Megatron changed bodies or is the Canon changed?

yes! haha so hmm let’s see. So far up until A Little Too Familiar I have tossed Crusade into my Crackship AU—because with the Cybertron’s future AU with a whole lot of my other sparklings, ones that have considered backstories, they wouldn’t exist because of Shamus and Envoy!—and yes in the Crack AU, Megan does sport his Marauder Upgrade.

I’m still 1000% open to keeping Crusade as like,,a cameo for the Crack AU but I will say I’m getting far too attached to their character to better NOT explore them more in a more intricate backstory kind of sense! Many of the asks I’ve answered previously about Crusade’s personality and future are still canon—with the exemption that Crusade has a far more present/loving relationship with their Carrier, who as a literal helicopter parent is near suffocating in his protectiveness and efforts to keep his sparkling away from the hands and influence of the Autobots, even if that means locking them away on the Nemesis far too much to be healthy, and lying straight to their face, and others, about their origins.

Since the TFN 2021 S4 kickoff script reading I’ve been leaning towards guess what—a whole other AU that continues RIGHT after that point, much like where the CF AU would—only certain rescission within the timeline have been changed leading to, in some relationships, a vastly different setting for a next generation! (No, I don’t think I’d create a whole ton of other sparklings in place, for example a planned Strika/Lugnut kiddo wouldn’t happen for obvious reasons, nor would Shmaus or Envoy exist!! Who would remain, THAT I will figure out later down the line.) So Megatron is not in his Marauder form, Optimus is named Magnus, Jazz is with team Prime/Ninja Corps, Sentinel is still a dick figures, Prowl is still dead and so forth.

What I have planned is sort of like where the Deceptions sport a retreat after their bust on Earth when attempting to take over the central line of techno organic energon. The Cons faced losses, high command was scrambled and still very much injured from their cruel, and unusual keeping within Trypticon, heavy sacrifices turned out to NOT reap greater rewards, and the troops are still starving—and starving, scared mecha are far more dangerous than angry ones.

Optimus is still coming to terms that he is due to lead Cybertron, under the title of Optimus Magnus as soon as he’s back, whether he likes it or not as the front lines are still very much on edge with the evermore increasingly violent rouge Con raids.

I made some commentary on the reading as a whole which was PHENOMENAL and I’m still riding the high that is the fanTASTIC work that was put into is, like god. There was a brief but hilarious moment from Rattletrap where he attempted to sell off a crudely photoshopped Megop photograph as dirt—a part of me thought it would be even MORE hilarious if said photo was actually, used and Op was left sputtering after a double take going like how did they find that. HOW.

My poor, poor fanfic loving heart got going on of course the What if the Enemies Were Fraternizing Throughout the Whole of The Show, Morals be Damned in Those Stolen Moments Because I Like YOU For Some Reason trope. Wow is me, be still my beating HEART. It did not stop—so I made another AU :D yayyyyy

Basically the creation of Crusade follows along in this timeline in that sense. They were a product of one too many lonely nights in some far off abandoned cave that never could quite seem to end with a civil conversation, let alone spark apprehension from the other when it came to going toe to toe of the battlefield for the sake of their Causes. A Comfort without Strings relationship, even if they did come to grow fond of each other, not that they’d ever admit it—a confession, in a sense, would only hurt both parties knowing that the two would never give up their motivations in the ‘impossible ‘case that said feelings were mutual.

From the looks of it, the Autobots did not once tend to the Deceptions during their stay at Trypticon. Megs still sported bare struts and tattered armor up to his escape—it would be believable that medics never once ran scans, let alone were ordered to get anywhere near the high command. With already being in such poor shape, battered, humiliated, starved, violated (those minicons?? homage to Trepan??? yikessssss) and sedated—it would be believable that Megatron wouldn’t pay notice to a small flutter in his spark amongst all the pain and anxiety, at least until he finally could gather his bearings under the lockdown of his temporary fortress stuck on Earth.

Megatron, knowing he was alone, now extremely vulnerable, heavily outnumbered and out favored by his remaining struggling troops, called upon his definitely not most favorite sub team to cower behind—the DJD, to meet his blaring distress beacon.

Tarn and his crew, with the help of the rest of high command’s signal dampeners, are able to as covertly as possible—minus the world sweeper size of the Peaceful Tyranny and the paralyzing droning on of the Empyrean Suite that Tarn just loves so dearly—made it off planet save for a few bumps and bruises from the small force of Team Prime. The High & Mighty Megatron was no where to be seen in the action. Probably off in a hurry to lick his wounds in retreat after getting his ass handed to him, many assumed, but Nickel knew better. Tarn knew better. Something was terribly wrong in order to resort to a ‘cowardly’ extraction and evasion mission.

You can see where I’m going w this—so anyways YES that is the general gist of where this AU kicks off!!! Megs and Op, particularly Megs, got unlucky on their last night together—eventually all leading to the introduction of the previously secretive back up weapon that was the DJD. Coming to the rescue of their Fearless, All Powerful, and Resilient Leader?? A strange, but instantly understandable measure to resort to once Megatron reveals himself as a carrying mech, the beholder of a true heir and a testament to the resilience that is the Deceptions though the terrible reign the Autobots have held against them through the eons.

I’ll go into why he keeps Crusade on a tight leash and Op out of the loop entirely for as long as he possibly could—and how the rest of Megaton’s troops behaved around this clearly, half blooded Con sparkling their leader doted on— later!

Needless to say, Crusade’s reputation from the moment they were born was tottering on a fine line between that of pitiable condolences for their leader, and that of true Decepticon pride knowing that the one to lead them to glory some day is none other than one of the Autobots’ very own descendants.

Hope that kinda better explains things! I like Meg’s Cybertronian design, it’s sleek, it’s sexy, it’s easier to draw, and since S4 gave us a fresher design to admire of Optimus, why not have the same for his other half!

Why don’t you ship it?

This isn't to say I certainly don't like the art or the fics that go with this ship, because I do. Actually, it was a MegaOp fic that first got me into shipping in the first place (and I mean that quite literally), and heavily into TF fanfic, and actually inspired me to start writing Transformers fanfic in general, lol. That MegaOp ficlet was actually the whole REASON why I delved into this universe and fandom as a whole outside of just enjoying TF's in general. I'll definitely never forget it.

However, I greatly prefer to see Megatron and Optimus as old friends, especially Megatron being the older mentor type to the younger, naive Orion Pax. I think that they both hold a great respect for one another, and I even like the idea of Orion/Optimus having feelings for Megatron pre war until the shit hit the fan, but it was unrequainted, and of course, Megatron was likely aware of his crush and used it to his advantage.

But I don't see my version of Megatron having had any past romantic feelings for Orion/Op. Post war, I think that they could certainly get along with each other again, and there would be a healthy amount of guilt shared between them and the burdens that had come with leadership. In many ways, they understand each other in a way that no one else ever could, but I still don't think that it would be romantic. I like their platonic friendship, and I have a great respect for it as being kept at that.

What would have made you like it?

I HAVE shipped it, in the past. When I was a lot younger. So this is a bit more of a complicated ship for me, because while I PREFER them as friends over lovers, I HAVE actively shipped it in the past, and like I said, I love the art of the ship and the fics, but I prefer to see them as friends and my Megatron NOW, as I have grown older and my version of him has also grown, I do not see having feelings for Optimus.

So, what would have made me like it? It's not that I don't like it... it's just that I no longer actively ship it lol.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Like mentioned above, I greatly enjoy the art. I probably wouldn't read any fics about it anymore, because it's not something I'm interested in reading currently, but that's not to say I've not read some great fics about it in the past. And as mentioned above, if it weren't for that MegaOp ficlet of them being on the train/tram together... I likely wouldn't be here where I am now with all my art and fics I've written myself. That fic was a true inspiration to me, and when I say it was something that inspired me, I mean more than just my art. I was ignorant to shipping before then, and as someone who is gay, reading M/M fic and shipping of canon characters back then was something incredibly important to me as a person and my self discovery. So yeah, this fandom (and that fic) is something deeply personal to me.

Do you think there's an element that's important to Megatron that gets neglected a lot? Either by fanon or some Canon writers, whichever continuity you prefer, etc.

Also, if I'm bothering you, don't be afraid to say so. I figured a couple conversation starters about a thing you like would be appreciated.

Once upon a time I would've been chomping at the bit to list all the things I don't like about fanon Megatron, but tbh I don't feel like I've read "enough" fanfic and fanon takes about him to be able to paint the whole Megatron fanbase with a wide brush. I mean, I could, but I don't want to generalize too much and erase the variety of opinions people probably have about him, right? And the thing is that per AO3 statistics, the vast, VAST majority of fanfics in general are just one-shots that aren't meant to be super in-depth explorations of canon, and lord knows that Megatron is such a weighty character that it would take an entire novel-length story to "get him right." So take everything I say below with a healthy heaping of salt.

I guess one thing that I don't like about IDW1 Megatron's portrayal in fanon is that a lot of his fans pretty much water down his flaws. People kind of write him as if he's an unadulterated hero who had no bad policies whatsoever-- and before someone gets on about me about "you're saying fighting oppression with violence is bad???", I'm talking about the multiple other really bad practices Megatron had with his leadership and the ways he treated the Decepticons like:

Forcing people to get reformatted in order to suit his strategic agendas and experimenting on people's alt modes to try and forcibly create combiners. Anti-functionism who?

Wanting to create an empire with himself as the sole head of state which is antithetical to the whole idea of freedom

Not allowing any religious worship whatsoever within the Decepticons (even a "cult with only one member" was hunted down by the DJD, and per Tarn's words Megatron only wants himself to be worshipped)

The entire fucking existence of the DJD in general

The first thing he did upon taking control of Iacon (Autocracy) being to round up, imprison, and execute political dissidents

Creating a "might makes right" culture in the Decepticons that leads to a lot of power grabbing, unnecessary brutality, and infighting

The technoism and colonization of organics that no one wants to talk about when they try to say "the Autobots are just as bad as the Decepticons" (no they are not lmao)

Completely leaving behind the Decepticons languishing in ghettos and faced with constant discrimination in favor of fucking off on a quest to find the Knights of Cybertron for the sake of his personal "legacy" as if the Decepticons weren't literally the most important legacy his entire life was formed around

I guess I don't blame IDW Megatron fans for acting as if Megatron is the best option Cybertron ever had and he was write about anything, because JRO literally writes Megatron as the best thing Cybertron ever had and the whole universe isn't much better off without him than it is with him, but I think that says less about JRO and more about fandom's inability to comprehend nuance-- the morally gray character has to either be stanned and "he did nothing wrong"-ified or he has to be a complete bastard with no redeemable qualities whatsoever. I'd rather hang around with Megatron fans than Megatron haters, but tbh the whitewashing of Megatron's personality is so annoying sometimes and I say that BECAUSE I like Megatron a good amount.

Especially when people bash IDW OP for doing things that were much less worse than what Megatron did ahaha I've literally stopped going into OP's tags and reading MegOP fic and generally engaging with the fandom because I'm so tired of IDW OP bashing coming up without warning/prompting and bland/generic OP fanfic characterizations from Megatron stans who seem perfectly fine with everything Megatron did.

I'm not saying "you're not allowed to enjoy your problematic fave unless you write a disclaimer about how bad he is," I'm just saying that fandom interpretations of Megatron rarely feel as interesting or fleshed out as the actual, real canon version of him, and sometimes people write about Megatron in a way that feels like it comes at the cost of other characters who are also cool and full of nuance.

Transformers Prime

The first character I first fell in love with: I first watched the show back in 2011 so it's really hard to recall for sure whom was the first, I think it might've been Megatron though.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Arcee. Back when I was watching the show in the early 2010s I really didn't care for her. But her entire character arc-especially the trauma aspect of it all-really stuck out to me as an adult.

Also Ratchet, adore him way more now than I did back then too.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Optimus Prime. Maybe he's not as popular as I think he is, but both back then and still today I see a fair share of people praising this version of Optimus. For me, he's one of my least favorite Optimuses. The short version of why is that I find him to a boring cardboard cutout of Optimuses prior and his advice to Arcee doesn't sit well with me.

The character I love that everyone else hates: Probably Airachnid, although "like" is more accurate. I thought that she was a creepy, dangerous antagonist and things like her killing Tailgate and Decepeticon teammate Breakdown solidified what her role was in the story: a threatening rogue Decepticon. Still doesn't make her likeable per say and I am still disappointed how her danger/creepy factor seemed to diminish over the course of the series (or at least it wasn't as strong like in her debut episode).

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Megatron. I'll give him credit for the clever plans he has, but I recall liking him a lot more when I was younger than I do now, where my feelings towards him are indifferent/neutral.

The character I would totally smooch: Arcee needs a kiss on the cheek. And hugs. And therapy.

The character I’d want to be like: I strive to have that kind of courage and persistence to keep fighting despite the internal struggles like Arcee does.

The character I’d slap: Silas, but he's dead now so I guess maybe I don't need to. Maybe just for good measure anyway...

A pairing that I love: Cliffjumper x Arcee, Breakdown x Knockout, and Optimus Prime x Ratchet.

A pairing that I despise: There's quite a few, but the big ones for me are Optimus Prime x Smokescreen, Airachnid x Arcee, Megop, and Megastar.

I don't like Optimus x Bumblebee either, but unlike that ship Optimus Prime x Smokescreen was a ship I used to like when I was younger (like, 13 or 14 I think). It didn't take long for me to make some realizations and have a change of perspective. Nowadays the ship brings bad flashbacks to my younger self and makes me cringe. And yes, everyone is allowed to make fun of and criticize younger me for liking this pairing (in hindsight, I kinda wish someone did so at the time).

Considering that Airachnid is a largely responsible for the trauma Arcee has and the way I've come to love Arcee in recent years, you can probably guess why Airachnid x Arcee doesn't sit well with me.

TFP Megop is the other Megop pairing that I've soured to over the years. You can blame shitty fanfics and bad takes I read in the past for making me lose interest in this pairing.

There's only a couple versions of Megastar I can like to some extent, but TFP is one of two that activates my fight or flight. I'm sure fans have come up with good AUs for this ship and ways to write about their relationship turning for the better, but 1.) I am just as suspect of Megastar fans as I am of Megop fans and 2.) the bad relationship Megatron and Starscream have in canon negatively impacts my views on TFP Megastar. And when that happens, that means I’m less willing to consider getting invested in AU ideas.
