I’m usually pretty emo about Uldrens lot in life (both chosen and otherwise) but then the exact though that the only way he could really escape his abuser: was to die. And the fact that Mara might very well mess with him again without “him” remembering her makes it worse.

I agree. He was a little shit in D1 I agree, but it’s really hard for me to dislike him knowing he was abused and manipulated by his own family (just like I was.) It’s especially sad considering how often dying is the only way people can escape their abusers.

If it helps, I don’t think he’s gonna go back to Mara (though I’ve no doubt she’ll try to use him again.) Every Hunter (except Shiro and we haven’t heard from or seen him since RoI) has declined the job, and it looks like Bungie’s bringing back the original D1 plot where we were going to met Uldren (”The Crow”) in the Cosmodrome. 

I’m quite certain now that he’s gonna become the new Hunter Vanguard. Mara will still try to fuck with him, cause she’s an abusive bitch like that, but at least with the Vanguard he literally won’t be allowed to work for her or rejoin her.

At least Bungie had better not. Especially after the past two days of them throwing harassers and abusers in the community out into the garbage. If they just plopped Uldren back with his abuser after he finally (DIED to) escaped her....

Well, I don’t think they will, but after all these years of seeing victims in fiction get shafted to make their abusers sad, I have a hard time trusting anyone, even Bungie.

Can I ask about your Guardians? I’m always interested in that.

I was beginning to wonder when someone would, and I always keep my Hunter and Titan's backstories on hand for just such an occasion! For now, I'll just drop my Hunter's, if that's alright.

Lisk-1, Nightstalker Hunter. Most often a Wraith, but occasionally a Trapper. Named after the mythological Basilisk. Backstory is as follows:

Before becoming an Exo, he made the mistake of hitting on Willa Bray. Her siblings and Clovis himself... didn't approve, to put it mildly. Some shady dealings were pulled, and he was turned into an Exo. Because of the unique circumstances of his conversion, he, like Cayde, does remember parts of his past. But unlike Cayde, he doesn't let it bother him until a memory becomes... relevant.

Lisk is kind of laid back, and just as much of a flirt as a Guardian as he was in his first life. Much to the annoyance of Eris, during her time in the Tower, the amusement of both Amanda Holliday, and the awkwardness of Shiro-4. Never got anyone to fall for him though, but he never expected anyone to anyway.

He was initially resurrected in the Ishtar Academy on Venus, where a nameless and houseless friendly Eliksni, Asoriks, helped him survive and find a ship, telling him just a little bit about their culture and history. Because of that, he and his Ghost, Lexi, forever have a soft spot for the Eliksni. With the unique exception of the House Winter bastards that killed Asoriks in the attempt to get the ship. He... enjoyed putting a knife in Draksis's throat, to put it mildly.

He and Ana Bray have a... strained relationship, given what Lisk remembers about his life before being revived. Occasionally has to remind himself that this isn't the "Ana" he knew, that sat back while he was forced into the Exoscience program. Discovering that the Exo Stranger is really Elsie Bray sounded like perfect karma to him, and he laughed for nearly a full day, before deciding they're even, due to her leading him to the Black Garden.

So yeah, there's Lisk's backstory! Thanks for the ask! And here's his face:

5: What does your OC normally wear?

It hinges on the occasion and what she’s dressing for.  She tailors her own clothes and often, ultimately, dresses to give an impression of some kind.

At her most casual, she’s more or less a jeans and a t-shirt/tank top/cute top/button-up combo type person.  If she’s wearing a vest or jacket, it’s likely open.  If she’s wearing a button-up, sometimes it’s half-open or more, too.  Sometimes barefoot or socks, often sneakers.

If she’s skewing male or gang business, she wears a heavy reinforced leather bra to keep everything in place while she’s swinging punches, overlaid with a t-shirt or a button-up and a heavy vest (usually worn closed) or a jacket.  Her pants are either jeans or casual dress pants.  Either sneakers or workboots.

If she’s dressing up… again, she tailors her own fashion.  She’ll wear suits or dresses for whatever occasion, but for the latter they’re usually cut in such a way to reflect her own creativity.  Often she’ll wear things that reveal skin without being traditionally revealing, translucent fabrics, fabric cut in such a pattern to give a sense of… I don’t know, she dresses art-like for lack of a better word.  Shoes are usually elegantly simple flats or sandals.

She had simpler cuts of a similar nature when she was working clubs and trying to entice customers.

She almost always wears her earrings, and whichever necklace (either the ankh she found out in the woods as a child in the early years or the die-cut fleur de lis that Gat gave her in the latter years.)  Sometimes you can catch her wearing bracelets or a ring.  Or sunglasses.  Most of her jewelry is sentimental.

Oh, and pretty regularly you’ll catch her wearing someone else’s clothes.  Usually Johnny’s.

18: How many times did your OC move as a child? 

If we’re counting her early teenage years, she moved all of once: from the Orphanage to the Seminary.  If I recall my timeline, she booked it at 18 and moved around A LOT after that.  (As in, every couple of months to every few weeks.)

I don’t know if she had a favorite.  She did like the extra freedom to explore things on her own while in Seminary, though.

49: If your OC experienced trauma, what was it?

…uh, well…

Abandonment issues from being thrown out as a child, so there’s that.  Neglect, not really intentional but orphans in a facility don’t really get the 1:1 they need to flourish.

Before she joined the Saints, people she knew were vanishing and some were turning up dead.

The actual joining part of joining the Saints wasn’t the best experience she had.  Killing people still kinda haunts her, more so that she’s gotten used to it.

Finding her orphanage was burned down was pretty traumatic.  Losing Carlos’ Brother was traumatic.  Losing Lin was heavily traumatic, more so maybe because Lin saved Faith’s life at the cost of her own.  Being betrayed by Julius, even if she didn’t know it was him for years.  Waking up to having lost years of her life… having to mercy kill Carlos… losing Aisha hit especially hard… finding out Dex betrayed her on top of finding out Julius betrayed her, losing Gat (even if it was just aliens), the thing with Zimos and Safeword, losing Oleg (seriously, to hell with these aliens) and everyone else and Earth Exploding (ZINYAAAAK!)

And, really, nearly dying a lot didn’t help.

i wanna say its deliberate? 2/3 would have glowing eyes so design wise it makes sense as its easier to do

right yeah thats his name. Good guy, very talented albeit a little cheesy but thats one of the reasons i like his voice. Also that’s cute that they are friends i feel like its easy to mix the names up.

You know what I haven't seen fic of and I think there should be fic of? Holster knew first. We know that he knows Bitty had a crush on Jack before they got together, feel like that's an awesome concept to explore.

ok so YES i agree with all this (there’s a fun fic by @thlayli-rah on a post of mine found here that features a drunk holster who Knows and is not happy about it)

but also i would punch a shark in the face to see a fic of the evolution of zimbits from holster’s POV, featuring the following:

holster altering ransom’s spreadsheets for Screw to try and find the best Gay zimmermann replacement on campus,

holster cockblocking jack and bitty on their coffee dates because he thinks jack’s accidentally leading bitty on. 

drunk holster trying to console a lovesick drunk bitty but being Bad at subtlety and definitely naming jack but lucking out because beyonce starts playing every time and bitty gets distracted

holster trying to tell jack to back down without telling him about bitty’s crush and jack thinking he’s just being a dick and it definitely always ends with wrestling on the lawn (just like with board games…)

I figured it was because you don't get him very long in Origins (or at least in my experience and that of many others that I've seen).

See I’ve heard that before, but I’m not entirely sure I understand it. Paragon of Her Kind is by far the longest main quest and he’s involved very directly in this quest, compared to the more sparse involvements of most of your other companions, so I can’t help but feel like if he felt lacking as a character after that, it’s only because he’s just badly written.

Adelaide’s keys disappeared from her bag during the day at the Royal Conservatory and she suspects one of her three classmates. Sokolov and his Tyvian hangers-on tend to woo a woman to her face with wine and chocolates, so it’s unlikely to be them; and the Piero fellow seems so meek as to be harmless, so she doubts it was him either. It must be the new student - he said his name was Dowd, but she personally doesn’t believe that’s a real name.

Adelaide, years later.

As much as it was initially amusing to think of inventive ways to to get into her apartment without going through the front door, it’s starting to get tiring when she gets home carrying fifteen books and three vacuum tubes.
