Don’t Forget Season One

Season one of SKAM is probably the least talked about as far as I can tell, with some fans (people that I have talked to personally) only watching it in the remakes so they can get to seasons two and three. Some people skip it altogether. I myself started watching the OG at season three and didn’t get back to Eva until later. But guys, season one is so fricking important.

When I started watching the season, I was in a relationship with a boy whom I loved very much. The two of us started going out while he was technically still in a relationship with another girl, but that girl acted like she was done with him. She was mean. She didn’t listen to him. She said she loved him, but I never saw the sentiment. I could justify my actions in being with him by thinking, well, I’m in love with him and she’s not, so I should have him. He broke up with her a little bit later. 

As I watched Eva and Jonas navigate their relationship, I saw a lot of myself in Eva. She had been the side chick before, so would it be so much of a stretch for Jonas to cheat on her too? Day and night, I thought the same thing. I thought, he’s going to leave me for another girl just like he left her for me. He’s going to leave me because he left her without any regret or remorse and clearly I’m not as good as she was. Let me tell you, it was twenty-four seven. I picked my outfits so they would be revealing when I was at his house so that he’d love me. I didn’t hang out with any of my friends very much, or confide in them, I only confided in him. 

It killed me to see it onscreen. I knew Jonas loved Eva. He loved her so much. And in the remakes, too-- Jorge loved Eva, Jonas loves Hanna (present tense), Giovanni loves Eva (present tense). I knew they were in love. But it wasn’t right for them to stay together, because the relationship was destroying them. 

Season one showed me that it wasn’t cool to get together like we had. Season one helped me find a supportive group of friends beyond the boy I made out with. Season one taught me that just because you love someone doesn’t mean the time is right for the two of you to be together. And that’s important for teenage girls to see. I forgot where I was going with this. But watch it, seriously.

 The fact that Julie uses the artist Highasakite again during the Marlon/Megan scene where they’re soo in love got me emotional all over again. And honestly, I’m not ready to go through all that pain again.

Marlon is nothing but a condescending prick who does nothing but be a shitty boyfriend. He can’t even fathom to be happy or supportive about anything that has to do with Meg. Absolutely nothing. It’s always about him because he’s incredibly selfish. His opinion is the superior and anyone who dares disagrees with him is made to be/feel stupid. And I see people trying to blame his behavior on Meg? Are y’all really that far up the boy squads ass that you blame a girl who is partly the way she is because of him? BYE.
