MegaMan NT Warrior officially available on YouTube for a limited time!!

It doesn't seem like anyone in the BN/NTW tags has made a post about this here on Tumblr? So I might as well at least let my followers know more about this. Copy-pasting from a post I made on one of my other social medias:

Yesterday as of this post, practically all of the MegaMan NT Warrior episodes, including Axess, have been uploaded to the official Capcom USA YouTube channel in celebration of the upcoming Battle Network Legacy Collection!~

The playlist for the first season is here, and then here's the playlist for Axess.

Now, some things to note:

The episodes will only be available until sometime in September, so please be sure to watch them while you can!! And also download/rips the videos if you want your own file backups of the episodes as well.

Whoever uploaded the episodes had, for some reason, simply used translations of the original Japanese episodes (one of the big examples is the first episode saying "Plug In! MegaMan!" instead of "Jack In! MegaMan!" :u) instead of the actual dub titles.

In addition, they went by the original Japanese order of episodes. Including episodes that were skipped in the dub. So after a certain point, all of the titles are completely off from the actual episode. Two examples are Ms. Millions' episode being named for the skipped idol episode, and the Wily memory chip episode being named after the skipped baseball episode. :P

It seems, somehow, the first dub episode of Axess was lost. Instead, they uploaded an officially subtitled version of the original Japanese episode. This is the only episode between the two seasons that was apparently lost.

The time limit on the availability of their episodes, combined with that one official sub episode, is leading a lot of people to believe Capcom will start selling a new special DVD/Blu-Ray/etc. set of all the dub episodes together once they take them down from the channel. This could also include a separate set of officially subtitled episodes for all of them, including the seasons that never got dubbed at all. One can only hope!! ;o;

So yeah, if you're a fan of the dub or even just want to watch out of curiosity, go check out the playlists while they're still up!! :D

Dr. Regal Trivia: Anime

In the anime Megaman NT Warrior (Rockman EXE in Japan), the inconsistency with Regal is not with his hair, but his skin tone.

In the Axess season where he first comes in and plays the role of Big Bad, Regal looks like this:

Not terribly different from any human character on the show, huh?

But then upon his return in the Stream season (starting with its own feature film, Programs Of Light And Darkness), he's not only grown a beard and is wearing a spiffy new evil outfit. He looks like this:

It's like his digitization and the antics he got up to upon merging himself with the Nebula Gray program drained the color from his new skin 'til it went pale. Like literal vampire pale skin. And I actually sort of really dig that? To me, it heightens the inhumanity of his character and makes him more physically imposing and eerie a presence while still keeping with the campy sort of EEEEEEVIL that defines him.

Something I realized about what else makes the original games version of Dr. Regal so much weaker a villain than his anime and manga counterparts. In the Battle Network game series, across six entries, this is the lineup of the Big Bads:

BN1 - Dr. Wily

BN2 - Sean Obihiro

BN3 - Dr. Wily

BN4 - Duo & Dr. Regal

BN5 - Dr. Regal

BN6 - Dr. Wily

There is a glaring issue here. After Sean and Gospel’s plot was sandwiched between two outings with Wily as the Big Bad, you’d probably figure that if Wily was to return after that, it’d again be after another installment with another Big Bad had gone by. But instead, one half of the Big Bad Ensemble from BN4 makes a comeback as the Big Bad of BN5, and at the end of that story, guess who pops up? Dr. Wily! Who goes on to be the BN6 Big Bad! So even more than Sean, Regal ends up feeling especially fillery as a stand-in villain for Wily. You might expect Wily as the BN5 Big Bad and then someone else in BN6 to keep with the pattern, but Capcom wanted Wily as the first AND last villain in the series, so they had Regal, Nebula and the Darkloids as the enemy for two entries straight to pave the way for Wily’s return. Even more glaring is that Regal is Wily’s son, which you’d think would make him super important but no, after Wily wipes his memory and he even joins with Yuichiro’s research team, we never see or hear from him again and he never gets mentioned in BN6. Wily even says this when he sets up his own suicide there:

In other words: “Son? What son? I have no son!”

Let’s contrast anime!Regal, who has nothing to do with Wily, has a far more interesting and direct connection with Duo compared to in BN4, enacts a plot with Nebula Gray more impressive than in BN5, and is the undisputed Big Bad of Axess and the Program of Light and Dark movie, the Greater Scope Villain of Stream’s front half, and again one of the primary antagonists in Stream’s back half, with his death marking the halfway mark of the final episode. All of these are sandwiched between the initial season of the anime (EXE) and the final season (Beast), making Dr. Regal the prime overarching villain throughout the midsection of the MegaMan NT Warrior anime series.

And manga!Regal, who we only really see in Volumes 10 and 11, but whose status as the leader of Nebula who conspires with Darkloids to set Dark Power loose into Cyberworld and give the entire world over to the Dark God of Destruction to decimate along with all the forces of darkness positions him as sitting motionless at the center of a large dark web (get it?) with radiations that run through the second, third, fourth and fifth arcs. That’s right, every arc except the first one and the last one, through Volumes 3-11. Meaning that once again, Dr. Regal is the prime overarching villain throughout the midsection of this series, which is more like the bulk of it given that it’s just a 13 volume manga. And once again, he’s got no relation to Wily at all.

Dr. Regal in the Battle Network game series ended up ultimately feeling like a pointless and needless villain without a cause. But Dr. Regal in both anime and manga of NT Warrior is some top tier EVIL.
