WHAT?! CALEM AS THE PROTAGONIST OF X AND Y IN THIS AU INSTEAD OF SERENA?! WHAT IS THIS FOUL MAGIC?! In all seriousness, here's Calem for the kaijumorpha au!

Calem was what one would consider an oddity amongst both humans and even other fellow kaijumorphs. Born from an romance between a regular human woman and a (now deceased) natural-born Therus father, Calem's very birth was considered something as an omen and a warning by Kalos' legendary duo themselves. Despite this, however, Calem had managed to gain a few friends along his pokemon journey in Kalos. Including a were-vulture named Serena, two demihumans named Shauna and Tierno, and a human named Trevor. And on their pokemon adventure, they would eventually cross paths with team flare and stop the end of the world...

So this was a design I've had floating around for a bit. I kinda had Calem as this megakaiju centaur in my head being in the AU for quite some time. Now originally, back when the idea for this 'verse's name was the "infiniverse", Calem had gained this for after getting hit by the ultimate weapon's power and mutating into what he looks like here. but i decided against it and went on with Calem being a human/therus hybrid when I began to build up upon this au with power kieran and the Paldea pack (name for the three rivals, plus the protagonists', group name in the au).

Now as stated, the centaur part of Calem's design is based on the mega kaiju from pacific rim's un-made sequel. Another major insp for calem being a centaur was because of Juno Song's Monochrome DX with lyrics Jumpscare showing Calem and Serena failing (or living eternally for Calem's case)

And that’s the last. There are still issues with the translation, but it’s fairly clear. It’s not as though we have much information at this point to compare the terms with, I suppose. I’d also like to point out that ‘fit monster’ is likely meant to reference the fact that this creature is a conglomeration of the other kaiju we’ve seen - another translation, provided by translating the individual elements one by one read, “together body type monster”. Still rather odd to see, but I think it conveys the actual meaning to a somewhat greater degree.

Oh, that's easy. Otachi. I've been a huge fantasy & mythology nerd basically since I learned to read, and dragons have always been one of my favorite fantasy creatures. I'm also of the opinion that bioluminescence is one of the coolest things on planet Earth, so a creature that's basically a bioluminescent alien dragon was bound to fascinate me. And really everything about her is so cool. The way she moves, the grabby tail, the acid spit (VERY similar to a dragons' breath weapon), the scene where she opens her wings, her weird tentacle/flower/proboscis tongue. Also, her baby is kinda cute for a shrieking abomination the size of a minivan.

ch 10 is about halfway done at almost 1500 words. still gotta write the test drift between jake and mako, and the deployment/initial fight of the jaegers

ch 11 is gonna be pretty much all fight with a small k-sci sideplot setup, with ch 12 being the k-sci chapter and the megakaiju. ch 13 is the end of the fight and the resolution of the k-sci plotline, and then ch 14 is just to wrap up and describe the aftermath. i’ll probably post it after all of that, and add the shippy ch 15 epilogue on later (if i write it lmao)

THE INVINCIBLE KAIJU , THE KAIJUSPAWN , THE MEGAKAIJU ! the article is really important , just sayin’. this one here’s # 43 , codename: kaiju. a special project conducted by the AMERICAN MILITARY to breed their very own kaiju to combat JAPAN’s. ( based off all-new aven/gers ) his powers include invulnerability, massive growth, regeneration, damage resistance, super strength, poison immunity, super senses     you could compare him to godzilla, but he doesn’t wanna get COPYRIGHTED. he first appeared in the year 2036 , under no name at the time, but reporters quickly started cycling the name KID KAIJU through the news ( he was 18 at the time, but his baby face didn’t do ‘em any favors. he kinda’ liked it, actually! ) two years after going pro he’s attempted to get several names to the media, such as: MEGAKAIJU, or maybe even THE INVINCIBLE KAIJU ! the squirt’s got a long way to go, but damn if anyone’s gonna stop this giant ! They don't talk about it, in the aftermath.

Hermann knows there's things to be said—things he has to say, especially, to apologise for; after all, he was Newton's Drift partner; knew him for over a decade; should have realised something was wrong—but Newton is, he knows, probably in no condition for it.

The selfish part of him wants to pretend like nothing happened—to just go back to the way it was, but that isn't good for Newton, because even if Hermann isn't necessarily the reason Newton left, he's certainly a reason Newt got to the place he did.

What was it the Precursors had said—about Newton being seen as weak and stupid? Because they are wholly wrong, of course they are, but Hermann knows that that's not just something they drew out of thin air; Newton's always struggled with his self-worth, and God knows Hermann's never been one to exactly reassure him.

"They're going to let me back to work," Newton tells him, a few months after he's cleared of all Precursor influence. "Uh—figured I'd be more help out there than in here, I guess." He laughs, sharp, and his hands, in Hermann's memory, never-still, lay atop the thin, blue sheets of the medical-bay, unmoving.

Hermann musters up a half-smile. "I'm—glad," he says. "I know how you hate sitting around and doing nothing. Hated," he corrects himself, because he doesn't know Newton; not really, anymore, and it's not fair to assume.

Newton mirrors the half-smile. "Old habits die hard," he says, and there's a trace of almost-humour there, a brief flash of it in his eyes, but it fades within a blink, the walls coming back up, and he squares his shoulders, as if expecting something.

Hermann swallows; doesn't know what it is that Newton expects. "I'll, ah, get out of your hair, then," he says, softly, not meeting the other's gaze. "I'm sure you have things to do."

"Yeah," Newton says, and it sounds more like an echo than a proper answer. He doesn't say goodbye as Hermann rises, closing the door quietly behind him.

It takes a few days for Newton to get settled into his new lab; Hermann tries bites back his disappointment at the fact that they're in separate labs, and scolds himself for having the gall to be disappointed; it's perfectly understandable for Newton to want his own space. Hermann may always have thought their rivalry was a friendly one, always thought Newton felt the same, but now...now he's not so sure. And he understands that, really, he does. He just—he doesn't like it, and that, he tells himself firmly, is his own issue and not Newton's in the slightest.

He does stop by, though; after two weeks, the separation becomes almost unbearable, leaves him restless and unfocused, which isn't good for his work.

He finds Newton standing over a holographic display of the Megakaiju, frowning and squinting, his face less than a foot away from the display.

"Newton," he says, and then, after a moment, remembers himself, and says, "er—Doctor Geiszler. Aren't you standing a little close?"

"Hmm?" Newton says, uncurling and craning his neck to squint at Hermann. "Oh—uh, hey Hermann. Sorry, what did you say?"

"Aren't you standing a bit close?" Hermann repeats, "surely that can't be good for your eyes."

Newton shrugs. "Can't see it properly if I don't," he says, nonchalantly, and drags a hand through his hair in a harried motion; sending tufts of it sticking up in different directions. He needs a haircut, Hermann thinks to himself absentmindedly.

"Did your prescription change?" he muses aloud, "perhaps that's why."

Newton blinks at him. "Per...scription?" he asks, like it's a foreign word.

"Well, I assumed you'd switched from glasses to contacts," Hermann says with a frown, "since I haven't...seen you wear them..."

He stops; trailing off. He hasn't seen Newton wear his glasses since...since he left, actually; interviews when he was with Shao either had him without them or wearing those horrid red-lensed sunglasses, but surely, the Precursors would have worn them, right?

"Hermann," Newton says, slowly, "they got me LASIK years ago. I don't need glasses."

There's something there—hurt, longing, resignation all, and damn it, damn it, Hermann wishes he could beat those bastards bloody, just for a moment, because how dare they—, and Hermann swallows. "Newton," he says, "you do."

"I—but—" Newton gapes at him. "That's ridiculous," he manages to choke out, and his eyes are tearing up, and, God, God. "They got me LASIK," Newton repeats, like a broken record, "Hermann, I—I don't need glasses."

His tone is verging on hysteria, now, almost, and he stumbles back a few steps before catching himself, and Hermann's heart aches.

"Well," he says, and then frowns. Pauses. Starts again. Falters for words. Then, in the absence of anything to say, he crosses the room and wraps Newton in a hug that’s probably tighter than is strictly comfortable.

Newton leans against him, seemingly in shock, and after a moment, he begins to shake, fingers gripping the fabric of Hermann's shirt tightly. "Well," Hermann says, again, softly, "your eyes could have been overcorrected, or simply have regressed over the years."

"God," Newton murmurs, the sound half-muffled into his shirt, "I can't fucking believe it. I—I..." he trails off.

"It's alright, Newton," Hermann murmurs. "I...I don't understand exactly, but I can—I can guess at what you're feeling, and it's perfectly alright."

"Thank you," Newton says, "for—for calling me...Newton, again, and for being here for me."

Oh, Hermann thinks, and draws his arms tightly around the other, "Of course. Would...if you'd like, I can look into getting you an appointment with an optometrist," he offers. "And I, ah—well, it's going to sound ridiculous, but you left your spare pair when you left, and I kept them, so if you'd like, you can just get the lenses swapped out for the new prescription."

"Yeah, I'd—I'd like that," Newton says, something Hermann doesn't quite understand in his voice, and then he asks, tentatively, "can we—can I move into your lab? Um, we can put a line down the middle if you want—"

"Of course," Hermann says, "I'd—that'd be wonderful, Newton. And...I don't think we need anymore barriers between us. And I doubt anyone would object to it—but if they do, I'll give them a piece of my mind."

"...alright," Newton says, softly, "I—yeah. I'd like that. Thank you, Hermann."

Why is super petty precursors like the best headcanon ever?!?! There's something just so good about it.

AGREED. Ok, I’m gonna confess something, Anon, I know the Uprising hate is generally off the charts cuz it’s super sad for Newt and not very well made but, as a writer one of the things I found so delightful (and is a matter of pure taste, I know) was that the bad guys had a voice in this film, unlike in PR1. 

See, Kaiju as natural disasters works, it’s actually a fantastic metaphor, but it’s a little like the Sauron problem in Lord of the Rings. The main bad guy never speaks, doesn’t ever get to give their motivation, has no personality and is in fact never even really seen except in glimpses by the protagonists. It’s a little remote, y’know? That’s why LotR is so full of minor villains like Saruman or the orcs or various antagonists like Denethor -- literally because the film’s “main” villain has no voice or presence really. 

When I realized Newt was possessed and that we’d finally be getting the voice and the thoughts of the real bad guys in the PacRim universe, I was delighted. And even better?? They’re petty little bitches! There’s no other interpretation of them! If we accept, as the director said Word of God style (so we can take or leave it) the only time Newt speaks is the “I’m sorry” line, that means everything else is Precursors and my god are they ridiculous?! They’re so pissed off about the Jaegers and so freaked out and cagey around Hermann and so smarmy around Shao, it’s actually delightful?

Like, look, when was the last time the evil fascist alien invaders weren’t all remote and serious? When was the last time they were just assholes? They’re petty and they’re mad at us for winning the last war and they want us to suffer and they’re gonna showboat while they take us out with the MegaKaiju they’ve been dying to use for a literal decade and they’re gonna whine and panic when they lose. It’s actually... kinda delightful?? I mean I’m all for natural disaster villains and like villains who are remote and serious and dripping with evil but I’m also so, so thoroughly happy when the bad guys are just petty losers with a mean strike a mile wide who are just out to twist the knife while conquering across the galaxy, it’s so ridiculous it’s actually kind of fresh and exciting as a result and I love it and love to write it???

also i was just.... so happy..... for hermann..... him growing as a person...... as a team member..... just growing...... of course the love of his life /not science/ being possessed by alien overlord wasnt a very happy thing, but i bet my ass when he realised alice was an alien and not a woman who stole his man away.... and how they drifted apart wasnt hermann being not enough.... sometimes people stop seeing each other because one of them gets addicted to kaiju drifting and gets possesed by a precursor

i am bitter about mako..... that.... like.... wasnt necessary was it. they couldve trapped her somewhere, or whatever else that wasnt killing her and still get jake to have to own it for the sake of his family and saving the world

i fucking loved how they played us with shao lmao. literally both me and my girl friends left the movie being like ‘this internalised mysoginy had us think that she, as a woman in power, had to be bad and behind it and that she couldnt ve had achieved this on her own without some alien meddling....’ but we got so played. so damn well played.

i never have any maternal instincts but when scrapper showed up my whole body was ready to sacrifice myself as long as scrapper survives......... i loved scrapper she was the most beautiful thing in this movie /maybe apart from megakaiju.......... megakaiju was transcendingly beautiful......./

i loved the kids they made me so happy... they were such amazing teenage teenagers and they looked like teens too

i just loved the raw pure energy the teens brought to it. i like how irl the teens are trying to save america and how teens on screen, played by actual teens who behave like teens are saving the world from alien overlords.....

have i said how much i loved how there was no actual romance apart from that acknowledged polyamory /and of course newt and hermann......... \

also i almost cried at hermann making more snap decisions and visibly having learnt so so so much from his partnership with newt after the first movie.... the way he throws caution to the wind and makes snap decisions that he wouldve never before..... my brave beautiful boy, hugginh newt and saving his life........

my heart is literally bleeding at how much hermann loves this man. god i dont want to even think of how newt will react to so many years of his life being stolen and causing hermann so much hurt when he /hopefully/ recovers

i literally dont think i had anything that annoyed me or hurt me it was such a good good pure movie...... the design of new jeagers the design of everything every scene was beautiful and i loved

Preemptive Review of Pacific Rim Uprising

So a thing about me, is that i LOVE Pacific rim. It’s great, original (for the most part) and over all an awesome movie, i swear i could go on but this post is gonna enough, so go rent it from a Redbox, or buy it, because that shit ain’t on Netflix! 

So with the sequel coming out soon... I have doubts 

So what i am going to do is that i will through both official trailers, and give my thoughts and my concerns.

0:01 Okay, i hate this with trailers nowadays but, don’t put a Fucking mini trailer at the beginning! I know what i’m watching, i don’t need to be hooked, i’m already hooked!

0:21 At the beginning, this looks very good, you can’t tell really whats going on, you just heard a siren, with shit like explosions happening, and you see a giant foot so you  get a scale of things, all while you’re focused on this girl --witch i think is going to be the Mary sue-- in aw.

 0:30 Boyegas character says that they were born into this world, and it makes me realize that this war has been going on for decades! So in this movie you get a look (i’m assuming) into the lives of the people who were born into a world of Kaijus, and Yeagers.

0:41 The theme song! it comes in for a quick bit, but it’s slowed down, which i think is pretty cook

0:50 And then you get “oh shit” moment where humans are fighting humans! And i’m like “yeah, this was gonna happen eventually” also it gives it a bit of a Gundam feel, with the whole giant robots vs giant robots thing.

0:55 There’s a Asian chick in white played by Tian Jingle jangle, with Mako from the first movie, and Charlie day walking in like he’s the coolest Mother Fucker, love him. 

 1:00 Now you get the song everyone’s gonna associate With this movie! It’s good, it’s just i wish the actually fucking theme song was the MAIN fucking theme song!

1:02 We get a mini Yeager Witch is pretty cool, piloted by the Mary sue i’m guessing, and let me guess, she’s a kid genius?!

 1:13 You a look into the ‘cockpit’ and... there’s CGI Fucking everywhere! Okay, a thing about the original, is that the cockpits were real, they were actual sets, and it was quite impressive. Go look up a behind the scenes video and you’ll know what i mean.

 1:18 Another cool thing is, in one scene the Yeagers have rockets strapped to the backs which is not free flight, but it’s close.

1:20 Generic line number 1 “Now that’s what i’m talking about!”

 1:22 Electro whip! Just electro whip.

1:25 There’s a scene of... *Looks at trailer* generic dude number 12, shooting a gun witch made me kinda weary there won’t be enough Yeagers and Kaijus, but the trailers made it very clear that there will be a lot of them.

 1:35 YEAGER SWORD FIGHT!

1:38 They show of a pretty cool battle in what i think is the Arctic. 

1:43 Generic line number 2 “I think i could get used to this.”

1:45 It looks like there’s a gun station in one of the Jaegers that’s away from the main cockpit, so i’m wonder if they will be able to move around the Yeager, plus it gives me a sort of star wars feel.

1:57 So it looks like in what i assume to be the climax, that the Kaijus fuse together, a sort of megazord made of monsters, if you will.

2:09 there’s a shot where all the Jaegers are getting ready to attack, witch looks pretty awesome.

2:17 You gets some cool shots and the MegaKaiju witch roars so load, that the windows in the building shatter, giving you a sense of how big this thing is.

2:20 Then you get the title drop and it’s epic.

1:03 Okay, there saying someone let the Kaijus back in, and it cuts to the Asian chick in white. “Jee, i wonder who it could be?!”

 1:12 I’ve notice that the Jaegers are a lot more agile in this movie, probably for more fast pasted action. I think i prefer the action from the orginal, it was slow, but you could feel the impact!

  1:14 Fighting while falling shows dedication.

1:22 Grapple beam! I hope they use it effectively.

 1:30 Sending in the mini Jaeger, Like that’s gonna do anything, and if it does i’m calling BullShit.

1:49 “Jaeger pilots, do you understand!” Is probably the line that gets me most pumped.

1:59 Okay, so Saber Athena (or Sabrina as i like to call it,) the female looking Jaeger, because why not, uses a sword, now that’s good and all because it solves the problem of not using it for the majority in the original, BUT a good argument for them not using it was because Kaiju blood, is very poisonous, so using a sword would spread blood everywhere.

2:01 The rocket elbow is back, witch is awesome, because it was awesome.

2:07 A Jaeger is batted across the city while another Jaeger is sliding under it, that’s very anime.

2:20 Here’s a design flaw with the elctro whip, a Kaiju could grab it and swing the Jaeger around the city destroying a ton of buildings, witch is exactly what happens.

2:29 Finally the title appears, and shows Gypsy Avenger using it’s plasma gun to control it’s trajectory while falling towards the earth, it’s not exactly free flying, more like free falling.

TL;DR/summery: If i had to some up Pacific Rim Uprising, it would have to be Mainstream. It looks very mainstream, and that’s probably due to Del Toro not directing it, now due to the original not being a major success at the box office, Legendary Pictures thought it was Del Toro’s fault, witch is stupid because anything that man touches turns into gold! 

It looks very anime, witch is pretty good, less of the ‘realisticness’ of the original, and more of the straight up anime Shit.

 The Jaegers themselves look very generic, with the only distinctions being the colors and some basic things like some are bulky, one is very feminine looking, where the originals were very distinct, you have the default, the new model, one with three arms, and one was just wearing a trash can and boxing gloves, and they all very well represented there native countries, unlike Uprising.

I like the ‘song’ they keep using, but i wish they would use the main Fucking theme.

Visual it will be a lot brighter, a lot cleaner, and less gritty then the original, and i don’t know how to feel about that, i assume it’s because they’re trying to pander to kids, witch i’m kinda on the fence about, on one hand it gets kids interested in mechas and maybe anime, but on the other hand there’s gonna be some annoying Damn kids when i go see it.

Plot wise, it kinda goes into my philosophy of, that the end of anything, humans will always fight each other, so i’m really curious where the movie goes.  

There are some good ideas like the Kaiju-Jaeger hybrid, and the MegaKaiju, but at the end of the day, it’s just too mainstream. i Don’t think it’ll be bad, it’s just i don’t think it’ll be as good as the original.

So i’ll post the trailers below for you to see for yourselves, so you can form your own damn opinions.
