you have summoned infodumping! currently im really pokemon fan games. they often are darker than the actual games but can be so fun. i love the creativity and passion shown in the creation of these games. the current favorite is pokemon uranium, i personally love the grass type starter Metalynx, its a grass steel type and has flowers all over its back in its mega evolution.
the leveling in it is very slow tho. but i still enjoy it. i also love the story. it only has one antagonist instead of an evil team. shes also my favorite character. the rival is also so silly, his name is Theo and i just love him. the music is also really good, most of it was made by Emdashe, who makes alot of fake themes for event pokemon. the game also adds elements from the pokemon ranger games, which made me actually get shadows of almia.
thank you for encouraging infodumping, have a nice day!!!
oh wow this sounds really cool! i’ll have to check it out at some point
if you like pokémon fan games, i recommend this gym of mine if you haven’t played it! it’s basically just a game where you play as a gym leader instead of a regular trainer
thanks for stopping by!

Orchynx: "Metal plates underneath its fur protect it from harm. It replenishes its energy by basking in the sun's rays." - Pokedex
Metalynx: "METALYNX stalk their prey in packs. Their brutally sharp tail blades are their main weapon." - Pokedex
If you can find this game, you should play it, it's really good!

I got bored again, and I'm in a Pokémon mood and wanted to be creative. I saw on Reddit where someone tried to make a team for Ash where he explored the Tandor Region from Pokémon Uranium, and then I remembered I did the same thing for my region of Tauraro. So I thought why not throw my own hat into the "what if" ring and continue his fakemon journey as a teenager.
I should specify that I spliced and edited this Ash Sprite together, and found Pikachu online (did you know Pikachu isn't in Uranium? I was shocked) and specifically chose a gen 4 sprite to reflect the era Uranium came from. The rest of the sprites are from the game itself and thus made by the creators of Uranium, and I claim no ownership.
This was just made for fun, please don't take it too seriously. However I do encourage people to play Uranium, it's a very fun and soulful fan game.
More under the cut
So, Ash is roughly 18? 19 around this point, since this continues from an AU where he got to grow older than 10. After coming home from his latest adventure, Oak receives a call from Professor Bambo'o of Tandor to talk about a strange rise in odd, feral Pokemon. Samson Oak, expert of regional variants, Prof. Crane, expert of Shadow Pokémon, and Professor Sycamore, expert of Mega Evolution, do not seem to know much about this, and of course, Oak, being THE authority on Pokemon, was next on the list. Unfortunately, Oak did not know about these strange Pokemon, but suggested that a student of his might be able to help the two of them gain more understanding of the situation. And of course, Ash was more than willing to go and explore a new region, and Bambo'o was happy to be able to examine a foreign Pokémon like Pikachu.
In my mind, the events of Uranium would take place in roughly the same manner, barring a few necessary plot details and Pokemon locations. Ash would probably be rivals with both Theo abd Pluto, the nonbinary trainer the player can choose from, and probably be more on friendly terms with Pluto and more of a humoring big brother type to Theo. I haven't really decided who he'd be traveling with anyone if he would be at all. I do think that Ash would resonate with Pluto missing his father, and deal with Theo and his father issues too.
As for his team, well, I decided to do something creative with it.
Pikachu, of course, is the constant since the beginning. As, apparently, there aren't Pikachu in Tandor, Pikachu gets a lot of attention everywhere he goes. In fact, Theo begged Ash to trade Pikachu to him after losing terribly to Pluto, and cried after not getting his way. Pikachu is of course very powerful, and takes big risks to ensure the safety and well being of his friends, and still has a silly side, much like his best friend, Ash.
Metalynx was actually given to Ash after it was the last one left after Pluto and Theo completed their starter quizzes. As an Orchynx, she was rather laid back and preferred sleeping in the sunlight than battling. However, that all changed with she evolved to protect Ash and Pikachu from a Nuclear Gyrados, and since then has been more eager to protect and please, in exchange for pets and treats. Ash learned to Mega Evolve Metalynx eventually, making her even stronger than before, although it is still on very friendly terms with its fellow starters from the lab.
Pajay is a very unique addition to Ash's team, as he first caught it as a shiny Pahar that had been abandoned by its mother for not blending in with its flock. It quickly became attached to Ash and Pikachu, and soon evolved into Palij. During the nuclear meltdown of Route 8, it would evolve to Pajay in order to give Ash and others time to escape from the feral Nuclear Pokémon and the fast approaching radiation. He was thought to be lost, and Ash had a breakdown over the thought that he let his Pokemon die. Some time later, when Curie first shows their face, they send out a very familiar face: Pajay, mutated by radiation even further. Ash managed to rescue Pajay, but it had gone feral, and would take time to come back to his senses. By the final fight at the Route 8 Nuclear Plant, Pajay saw Ash in danger and finally came to his senses, now finally back to sane mind. It is much stronger than before, but also much weaker due to the acquisition of the Nuclear type.
Baariette was found as part of a gang I'm Nowtoch city, which robbed and stole from trainers and stores in excess. Ash and Pikachu made short work of the gang, and Ash caught him. It is a bit distant, somewhat naughty and haughty, but easily manipulated to fight and follow orders. He wasn't sure about staying with Ash, and actually contemplated destroying his own ball to release himself, especially after a brief team up with Garlikid. However, Ash would eventually prove his worth by shielding Barriette from Urayne's power. Since then, he respects Ash as an equal, though still not too quick to accept the Trainer and Pokémon role.
Escartress introduced himself to Ash by hitching a ride on the way through Route 7 to Bealbeach. As a Cassnail, personal space was not really a thing, and he would often break loose of his own ball to munch on food or explore somewhere new. It did not like battling until it evolved, and didn't truly fight like he meant it until food was offered, or until he finally evolved into Escartress to fend off ninjas from the sea. Since then, he's become much stronger abd a tad more mature, but a bit disappointed that he's found out quicker when he escapes. Now he's rather fond of carrying others as others carried him.
Gargryph is a late addition to the team when Ash arrived to Vanessi City. A man at a bar insisted he saw shadows at night and statues moving about, and most peculiarly a giant pink rabbit Pokémon. A gang of Raffiti and Ratsy stole some of Ash's belongings, and Ash and his Pokémon quickly dealt with them. It turned out that they were owned by a thief, and the thief kicked a fallen Ratsy for being weak. Ash, in fury, punched the man, and yet by doing so, Ash was besieged by Gargryph, which attack outsiders that bring harm to the citizens. If it weren't for a mysterious pink Pokémon coming to his aid, Ash might not have survived the night. He caught one of the knocked out Gargryph for his team. Since joining, Gargryph has been useful for a flyer, for defense, and is decent in a fight, although it lacks much for personality. In fact, it pretends to be a statue in non combat or food related scenarios. Yet it clearly learns to care for the others with time, as it guards the team at night and through all manner of dangers when it sees fit, and often leaves a small gift it finds at night. It does not mind the others' silly antics, and seems at peace with Pikachu or any small Pokémon or children resting on or near it.
I'll be working on other fakemon teams in the future cuz why not

So instead of having a third evolution, the starters in Uranium have Megas.  I haven’t gotten to the point where you can access these, so I can’t really give any firsthand opinions on how well that works.
Mega Metalynx gives us more of the same, but in bigger quantities.  The metal parts look kind of comical, but the flower pattern actually looks better when it covers more of the body.  With enough of it, it starts to look more like spots.

Top Twelve Favorite Uranium Pokemon
After I posted my review of Uranium, I felt bad because I don’t think I highlighted the good fakemon enough and spent a lot of time discussing the bad ones. So I wanted to show off some of the coolest ones I ran across in the game. This favorites list is based on the design and concept of the pokemon and not necessarily their stats or abilities.
Apologies for a few of these pics looking a bit janky and weird, I need to still evolve/catch those in my save game before taking proper screencaps.
1.) Linkite
Pretty sure this is my favorite fakemon of the whole game. It has simple, striking imagery. It’s clearly a ghost-type based on the Substitute doll; the idea behind it is that it is the spirit of a pokemon that died while in its pokeball. It’s a dark idea without going too overboard, and it’s quite creepy and disturbing and just darn clever. Wanted to use in my playthrough but stats are super-bad and only way it can evolve is via trading, which I couldn’t do with my copy of the game at the time.
2.) Metalynx
While I do not care for the look of the Water and Fire starters, nor do I think much of Metalynx’s pre-evolution, I feel Metalynx itself is an excellent design. It’s unqiue and creative, and looks quite badass, and it served me well in my playthrough. I have noted elsewhere I think the floral pattern on his back looks a bit out-of-place and silly (I assume it was an attempt to tie in the whole ‘he’s a grass type, really!’ thing) but that’s my only little nitpick. The Mega form is quite nice too.
3.) Nucleon
The pokemon itself is very overpowered with its ability (Atomizate, like Pixelate but with Nuclear typing) + Hyper Voice, especially with a choice scarf, so it can actually be pretty boring to use. I’m also a bit miffed I didn’t teach my Eevee Shadow Ball before it evolved into Nucleon, because in terms of non-Normal/Nuclear Special moves, Shadow Ball really is the best. But Nucleon can’t learn it, only Eevee can. I had to stick with flippin’ Hidden Power.
Anyway! Point is, the design is very beautiful.
4.) Gargryph
l really love the concept behind this poke. When you visit the town you get one from, there are these statues all over the place and only later do you discover they’re alive. They’re obviously based on gargoyles, (or a ‘grotesque’ if you wanna be pedantic) specifically one that looks like a griffin. It’s actually really surprising Pokemon has never had anything resembling a griffin before. That’s a shame, because they’re really cool mythical beasts. This pokemon has a cool Ability called Rebuild, which restores a little HP if it wasn’t hit by an attack that turn. It complements a walling-pokemon style very nicely, especially one with Protect that carries Leftovers to maximize that recovery.
Unfortunately, this guy’s only good stat is its physical defense. Being a pure Rock type, it’s weak to so many special attacks it’s pretty damn difficult to use it effectively. But I still like the idea behind it as a walling/support poke, even if I could never get it to work. The sprite looks surprisingly really nice, too! One of the best in the game.
5.) Navighast
This is a Ghost/Fighting type, based on undead/cursed pirates. My first impression (its pre-evos are Swabone and Skelerogue) was that it looked too similar to Cubone/Marowak. And there are indeed strong similarities. But as it evolves it becomes more and more unique from that, and the idea behind it is different and really cool. The game features a rivalry between sea-faring ninjas and pirates, so some of the pokemon reflect that theme, this being the pirate-side of things. And who couldn’t love a pirate-themed pokemon? Besides, the typing combo is admittedly very fun.
6.) Firoke
This game has three lines of bug types that are closely related and become entwined in a truly awesome subplot. Obviously you can guess this is right up my alley-- that subplot was my favorite part of the game. Of the three elemental bug lines, I would say Smore/Firoke ended up with the best design. It’s also quite exciting to have a Fire/Bug type (only one of those in real pokemon), and a red ant is perfect for that. Its sprite is also the least weird-looking of the bugs and actually quite decent.
7.) Stenowatt
It be an electric raptor. What more do I need to say? :P I love the color combination and the design. Also feathered dinos make me happy.
8.) Empirilla
This game includes some fan-made evolutions of real pokemon. This ‘lil fellah is actually pretty neat, and prob. my favorite of the evolutions from real pokes. I never much liked Primeape, and Empirilla looks way neater to me, so it’s an improvement in my mind. It also relates back to the original designs well.
9.) Baaschaf
This black sheep is perhaps understated in its strength, as the design is nothing extreme or dramatic. Rather, it’s just a very solid design. It fits into the pokemon universe well, and differentiates itself just fine from Mareep’s line.
10.) Raffiti
So, yes, this is absolutely a Smeargle clone. But that’s OK because it’s BETTER than Smeargle’s design, which I never liked, haha. Also its stats are better than Smeargle’s, too. Plus it’s pure Dark type! That’s pretty neat.
11.) Geigeroach
Obviously my bug bias is clear here. But, c’mon. Nuclear cockroach. I would have been gravely disappointed if such a thing wasn’t included in the game. I should point out the thing is nigh impossible to actually use in battle; dual Something/Nuclear types always carry a buttload of x2 and x4 weaknesses, due to the nature of Nuclear typing, and if you combine that with a type that already has a lot of weaknesses, it’s only making it worse. Its stats are also poopy. So, yeah, you ain’t using this guy. But DANG DUDE the design is cool.
12.) Lavent
The stats are underwhelming, but I appreciate that this one’s based off geothermal vents and giant tube worms. An area that was just begging for a pokemon, honestly!
Honorable Mentions:
These are pokemon you can receive as eggs, either from an NPC or from the local Pokemon Professor for dex progress. I’m only placing them as HMs because I didn’t know about them until post-game, but they really are among the coolest designs.
Gellin
This thing reminds me so much of an Ultra Beast. (I’m pretty sure these were designed well before Sun/Moon was a thing.) After all, Ultra Beasts look . . . super weird and not like typical pokemon at all. It’s really damn hard to define exactly what an Ultra Beast looks like. But that *point* that thing does. It also has a weird unexpected type combo the way a lot of Ultra Beasts do-- this one is Grass/Electric.
Luxelong & Oblivicorn
The Dragon/Fairy Luxelong and the Fairy unicorn line that can lead to the Normal Kiricorn or the Dark Oblivicorn are both damn cool, and it’s kind of a shame I didn’t know about them until it was too late. I guess it’s motivation for the post-game, if I get around to it!

So the rival in Pokemon Uranium is a little kid named Theo. He is younger than your character, who I have named Rumple (because even Dark Ones want to go on pokemon adventures), and is pretty immature. He spends a lot of time screaming and crying about things, but as the story progresses, he grows up more and more, and learns how to deal with life’s problems in a more adult way. He stops idolizing the main character, following in his heels all the time, and instead begins to try and be the best Theo he can be.
Really, I started to bond with the little guy.
Tumblr media
When you pick your starter (well it’s less picking and more being assigned through a personality quiz), he inevitably gets the one that’s naturally weak to yours. Since I got the fire dinosaur, he got a grass/metal cat demon. And boy did he whine about it, blaming everyone for his pokemon losing against mine all the time.
Eventually he came to accept that I was just better than him. Which is good, because I am. We still went on to battle through a gym together, and attain the power of Mega Evolution for our starters together, which was a very sweet and oddly compelling moment in the game.
Tumblr media
His awesome cat monster mega evolved into the Fullmetal Alchemist, and my fire dinosaur turned into an even more fire, even more dinosaur guy. Except the back marking that used to look like a yoshi saddle now looks decidedly uncomfortable.
But I guess even actual time passes in the game for Theo to not only grow up mentally, but physically. His character sprite actually reflects this change, though now I no longer want to fight him under any circumstances, ever.
Tumblr media
Because I think he’s going to kill me.
Here we are, in out final battle. It was a pain in the butt to get here, with all the dialogue and plot I had to wade through when all I really wanted to do was kick his butt one final, meaningful time. We finally duel and not only does he look at me like I’m a tasty meat snack but, somehow, he decided to ditch his poor starter and take mine.
No joke. Metalynx is no where to be seen. Instead, he has an Archilles just like mine. So all that journeying to get to the championship, and to get there again so we could actually battle, and he decides that his dutiful, loyal, beautifully dorky green cat is no longer good enough?
Tumblr media
Here I was, giving him credit for no longer following in my footsteps, but he went and proved me wrong. Jerk.
I did look into the final battle a little, but according to the wikipedia page, he is supposed to have his normal team. I somehow got this strange bug, or something, where he fought me with pokemon he had not used before in any of our previous battles. Including his starter, which was the most jarring.
I’d love to know if anyone else had this happen, though, or if they fought him and he had his usual team with him! I did restart from my last save and challenged him again, but he still did not have his proper team.
