Group C, Round 1, Poll 3:
Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut
Sergeant Breaker Night
I don't know what it says about me that he's the first character I thought of besides "this show might have too much of a hold on my brain." Sgt. Night is a veteran from the Hard Age, a war that took place in recent history where robots fought for their rights as citizens. Supposedly "nobody lost" and "everybody won" the war because robots did get rights, but things still aren't really... equal. Tensions still exist, and Sgt. Night plays on this throughout the entire show. As the war veteran, he claims that humans built robots and therefore are superior to them, but in his disguise as Lord Obsidian - who by all accounts seems to be a robot - he urges robots to prove that ROBOTS are superior and that following him will let them take back what is theirs (in some capacity). In reality, he's doing all of this to get at a device Dr. Light has that allows for complete control over a robot and the ability to do things like wipe their memory. Night lies to his followers and is only revealed to the heroes as being Obsidian in the last episode. "I lied to all of you, to put you back in your place!" There's also "More, More, More!" in which he literally gatekeeps the city, creating a barrier to divide humans and robots and moving them around as necessary to create this division. He doesn't play all his cards at once, either, not showing his followers the "Lord Obsidian" armor/persona until challenged into doing so and proving that he's not just sitting around. He regularly calls Mega Man a "traitor to his kind" as Obsidian but never elaborates, which plays its part in drawing the hero in and trying to learn more which is perfect for staging an attack. We as the audience don't even know what all information he has, and he's not planning on sharing it, either. The sergeant might not be a girl, but he does girlboss. He has an evil lair and gets his followers through charisma or promises of helping them out in some fashion, and will do whatever it takes to succeed. He'll get his own hands dirty as Lord Obsidian, no questions asked. He's more than willing to sow problems as Sgt. Night, too, whether that's convincing others robots are dangerous and shouldn't be equal to humans, or that time he purposefully interfered with a robot's thermoregulator in order to make him more unstable and was only able to do so by claiming there was a "mad robot on the loose" to get rid of as many witnesses as possible. Ice Man didn't even do anything to him. My guy was just existing and trying to get better and Night wanted to make his life worse (possibly in an attempt to get Ice to join the evil team, but it's never made super clear and it fails anyway). There was an entire episode where the plot was "back Mega Man into a corner and get him to use all his powers together and fail so I can try and recruit him", which only failed because Mega Man got backup.
also he canonically abused a (robot) child who acts as his second-in-command. said child was also kidnapped and calls Obsidian "father" which makes the fact that the kid is terrified of him so much worse. Daini gets hit with a power that makes him see his fears because it messes with the mind and he's already in a dream fighting Mega Man (don't question it too much), and he sees Sgt. Night AKA Lord Obsidian. He falls to his knees and his hands go to cover his head. He’s scared. He’s whimpering and he’s terrified, almost trying to block him out. He's NEVER acted like this before. Daini was confidently standing by Obsidian's side and talked back just a few episodes ago, and now he's terrified. Once he gets booted out, he's confident again facing Sgt. Night, but the moment the Obsidian armor goes on Daini flinches. He pulls back and shrinks away slightly, and his hands rise to protect himself. He sounds scared. He wasn’t afraid of Night normally, confronting him on the plan being a failure, but then was called a failure himself and was intimidated into backing down by Obsidian. Obsidian didn’t have to say anything.
this is still by all accounts a kids show and this is even before the comic continuation added on "oh btw this incarnation of mega man was made specifically to kill his own kind in the war for robot civil rights and had his memories wiped and then had them wiped again after his twin brother was kidnapped" because why the hell not. i love it. this is also propaganda for mmfc as a whole, it's honestly really fun and the fact that there's a precedent for humans and robots not always getting along makes things even more interesting. some episodes (Guts Man episodes) are weird but others are genuinely really really good ("Enter the Wood Man", "Watt's Happening?!", "Big Bad Dreams", and "Hide and Secrets" are personal reccomendations!)
Dahlia Hawthorne
she lived. faked her own kidnapping and killed multiple people in unrelated situations. was executed. got her spirit channelled. tried to kill even more people as revenge
Girlypop has done a shit ton of manipulation, committed at least four murders (even one from the grave!) A man’s eaten glass for her, another’s knowingly drank poison. She also puts on the “Weak little girl” act to get away with it all
she is literally THE gaslight gatekeep girlbosser ever. don't wanna spoil anything but like. she is the definition of the words,
"At 14, Dahlia arranged a staged kidnapping (in order to attain a Very High ransom from her wealthy father) with a guy she'd seduced, her stepsister Valerie, and her twin sister Iris (who chickened out) that purposefully landed the guy in jail for her supposed murder. Five years later, the guy broke out of jail and Dahlia framed him for the murder of Valerie (which she committed) and when this truth was exposed in court, the guy killed himself rather than break the promise they'd made to believe in each other no matter what. A few months later, she poisoned one of the attorneys involved in that case (putting him into a years-long coma instead of killing him) and got away with it by planting the evidence on a guy she just met by convincing him she'd fallen in love with him at first sight. She then guilted Iris into pretending to be her while dating the guy for the next several months, which culminated in her attempting to murder him, only to then try to frame him for the murder of one of her exes instead (which she also committed). She didn't get away with this one because superior girlboss (her cousin Mia) exposed her plot and Dahlia was executed for it a few years later, but she continued to GGG from beyond the grave. While she was still alive, Dahlia and her also-incarcerated but not on death row mother planned to murder the head of their clan (Maya, the younger sister of Mia) so that Dahlia's younger half sister (Pearl) could take Maya's place as head of their clan; Dahlia was also doing this because in the interim, Mia had been murdered by someone else, and Dahlia decided the best way to get revenge on her after her death was to kill the person she loved most. The mother and daughter schemed to write to Pearl (who was only about 9 at the time) and convinced her to channel Dahlia after her execution without telling her why (their family has the ability to channel the spirits of the dead, and they cannot remember what their bodies do during the time they're possessed) so that Dahlia could use her little sister's body to kill the head of the family, who Pearl loved very much. They also guilted Iris into working with them on this. The attempt failed because she girlbossed too close to the sun (a combination of her still-living ex, Maya, the channeled Mia, and the now-awake guy she'd poisoned) but she still GGG-ed all her life and even into her death (she also managed to get Mia & Maya's mom killed in the process and the coma guy (who Mia was in love with) convicted for it, but Maya lived so ultimately a failure). Throughout all this, she gives off an air of innocence and kindness and naivete, wearing white, high femme clothes, convincing the men inside and outside of the legal courts that she couldn't possibly do anything because she's just a sweet little girl. I fucking hate her <3 the vibes are both rancid and terrifying"

I just binged all of the episodes of Mega-Man: Fully Charged that are out (40 on the Cartoon Network website) in one day. I have some thoughts to get out of my head.
Is it neat? No. Does it make sense? Probably not, but I’m inflicting it upon this small fandom anyway.
((Since I’m getting thoughts out about many different parts of the series there are spoilers underneath the cut.))
Thoughts about the overall series:
I’ll admit it, the series starts out a little formulaic. The early episodes are kind of repetitive, but it did get better. In my opinion, it really improves at episode 18 with the introduction of Wood Man. Not only is it the first time (I think) that Aki/Mega Man is visibly injured by his opponent, it is the first time, in my opinion, that the battle and its potential outcomes had weight to them. Everything after that seems to carry some of that weight as well.
It is a show targeted at young boys, so it’s not going to be super dark or mature, but the action sequences are pretty cool. The jokes are pretty funny too, and the ‘voom’ sound that Aki/Mega Man makes when he jumps is nice to hear.
I really like the emphasis that is placed on ending conflict peacefully/violence as a last resort as well as therapy and second chances for the misguided robots who regularly fight Aki/Mega Man. Like Fire Man! He mentions his anger management therapist, breathing exercises, going to a happy place, etc. in order to deal with his extreme temper. He’s still a villain due to his beliefs that humans are inferior and the fact that he is loyal to Sgt. Night/Lord Obsidian, but he is actively trying to manage his anger. It’s a good message.
I also enjoy how Aki/Mega Man’s schematic copying works. Yes, he can use his rogues’ powers against them, but he has to deal with the negative personality traits he gains from them as well. He isn’t infallible.
I really like Mega Mini. I find him hilarious and he’s given me a lot to think about. Which leads me to...
Speculations about Aki/Mega Man’s powers:
How did he get them?
The series hasn’t shown us how Aki/Mega Man got his powers, and by extension Mega Mini.
Doctor Light doesn’t seem to know that Aki is Mega Man, which doesn’t make sense. He built Aki, so he should have known that his son had combat capabilities. This raises the question: Did Aki always have the capability to become Mega Man?
If he did, then that could mean a few things:
One, Dr. Light knows and is waiting for Aki to tell him on his own terms. Perhaps he built Aki’s frame during the near end of the Hard Age war to use as a double agent, but didn’t get the chance to activate him because the war ended soon after he was finished. Not much later he had Suna, his wife passed or left him, and he wanted her to have a sibling when she was older. He revisited Aki’s frame in his lab and built a more normal looking system over it, keeping the combat capabilities out of a sense of paranoia and programming them to only emerge if Suna was in extreme danger. When Suna turned ten he activated Aki, gave her a sibling that could protect her, and honestly forgot about the combat functions as the kids grew older. Until he saw Mega Man for the first time.
or
Two, Dr. Light legitimately doesn’t know. He didn’t build Aki with combat capabilities at all, choosing to make him as close to a human being as possible. Which raises another question.
If Dr. Light didn’t build him with combat capabilities, who did/who gave them to him?
Aki seems to be built and programmed as close to a human child as possible, meaning that it’s highly unlikely he modified his own body that drastically. His dad didn’t do it, so that leaves two options. Sgt. Night/Lord Obsidian or some other mysterious benefactor.
If it was Sgt. Night/Lord Obsidian, it could make sense. He seems to resent Dr. Light somewhat, and given that he was able to overhaul Chauncey into a combat machine it wouldn’t be out of the question for him to be able to do the same to Aki. He also seems incredibly invested in Aki/Mega Man, wanting the boy to join his cause. He could have kidnapped Aki, modified him and improved upon Namagem’s design, and then wiped his memory of the event and sent him back. Quite possibly as an act of spite to Dr. Light and his ideals if he could corrupt Aki/Mega Man without mental tampering.
If it was another, mysterious benefactor, then it could be someone working against Sgt. Night/Lord Obsidian who needed the city to have a noble hero. Who approached Aki and asked him, got his permission, and disappeared once everything was done.
Why Mega Mini?
Mega Mini is particularly intriguing to me. Why is he there? Is he meant as a fail safe? As a mentor? Simply someone to repair Aki/Mega Man and keep him in fighting shape? He seems to be able to control everything relating to Mega Man, with or without Aki’s input, so how far does that control reach? Would it be possible for him to take full control of Aki’s body? Or is he limited to only giving advice and being unable to really refuse any of Aki’s orders? Not a lot of answers here, but it sure is something to think about.
Why does he pick up personality traits with the schematics?
Could it possibly be another kind of failsafe? He has the one that limits him to having only three schematics on board, and we’ve seen the consequences of not having that. Perhaps it’s a purposeful flaw in order to keep Aki/Mega Man grounded to reality and humbled. Those moments where he loses control are a challenge, something that he has to overcome to grow as a person and as a hero, and a way to understand the robots he fights.
Is he based off of Namagem?
They share a lot of things. Their seeming mental age, the busters, the power replication, etc. It’s mentioned to Aki/Mega Man more than once that Namagem is his reflection. Namagem doesn’t have the safety mechanisms that Aki has in place, and is seemingly more unhinged for it. Regardless of who gave Aki his powers, it is entirely possible that Namagem was the prototype. The first one that Aki’s powers were modeled off of. And is Namagem aware of this? Not only are the two of them foils, their family seems to be as well. The relationship between Dr. Light, Aki/Mega Man, and Suna is the antithesis of the one between Namagem and Sgt. Night/Lord Obsidian. This leads me to what I created this post for in the first place...
Speculations on the relationship between Namagem and Sgt. Night/Lord Obsidian:
This one... makes me extremely uncomfortable.
The first time we see Namagem is during the end of the Lightfall two-parter. He comes to get Lord Obsidian away from Aki/Mega Man after the man’s plan has backfired. He is shown supporting Lord Obsidian as they return to their base with the other villains of the show, and refers to him as Father. He seems obedient, dedicated, a generally perfect dragon to Lord Obsidian’s big bad. That doesn’t last long.
The next few times we see Namagem he is disobeying orders, going out to fight Aki/Mega Man despite being repeatedly told not to. He clashes with Sgt. Night’s strategy of waiting for the right time, preferring to charge in and let his fists do the talking. He’s essentially a brash, rebellious teenager who thinks he knows best. He’s Aki/Mega Man’s foil. They’re alike in that way, though Namagem takes it to the extreme. He’s what Aki could have been if he didn’t have his failsafes, Mini Mega, or a supportive family.
Sgt. Night is harsh with Namagem in the same way he’s harsh to the other villains who follow him. He puts them down verbally, calls them useless and generally degrades them. This alone isn’t what puts me into uncomfy territory though. That came with episode 31, “Big Bad Dreams.”
In the dreamscape, Aki/Mega Man finally fights back using Hypno Woman’s powers to force Namagem to see what he fears most. Aki/Mega Man is unable to see what Namagem is terrified of, but we the audience do: Lord Obsidian’s reflection on the windows of a building, massive and looming over Namagem. And what does Namagem do as he sees this? Cries out, flinches, and holds his hands above his face/head like he’s preparing to take a hit. Aki/Mega Man throws him from the dreamscape soon after.
When Namagem comes out of the dreamscape and tells Sgt. Night what happened, he’s belligerent in the face of the man’s remarks, getting up in his personal space and generally being angry. This changes as Sgt. Night walks away. The second he transforms into Lord Obsidian Namagem’s entire demeanor changes. The man is walking away from him but he flinches, cries out, shakes, curls over and in on himself. He seems absolutely terrified.
I know that this is a children’s show, maybe I’m thinking too dark, but those moments are sticking in my brain. I want to know:
What in the holy hell happened to make Namagem so afraid of Lord Obsidian (not Sgt. Night, but Lord Obsidian) specifically?

Some toys for "Godzilla vs Kong" have been leaked online, including toys of Mechagodzilla.
I have some thoughts to share but these are technically spoilers so, if you don't want to be exposed to such things, then don't look under the cut.
Let's cover Mechagodzilla first because he's probably the most anticipated Titan/Kaiju appearing in "Godzilla vs Kong" (besides the two eponymous characters). He does make an appearance in the official trailer twice but very briefly each time. We don't get a good look at him but we see enough to get a basic idea of what he probably looks like:
Tumblr media
That looks like Godzilla but it's clearly has metal skin and some red glowing patches on the neck -- neither of which the real Godzilla has.
Tumblr media
It's probably safe to assume that the robot on the screen is Mechagodzilla, maybe charging up to use his radioactive heat ray.
So, we can safely conclude that Mechagodzilla looks like....a Mecha Godzilla.
Shocking.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We have barely seen his face, and only have had a good look at his robotic feet on a computer screen. What does he truly look like?
Tumblr media
There aren't any great-quality photos of the Mechagodzilla toys online so this is the best we have. But these photos do give us a much better idea of what he looks like. He has red, blocky dorsal "plates" on his back, and three-fingered crane claw hands. It's kind of creepy to look at because it looks more like a skeleton than anything else.
Which ties into my (absurd, I know but we are dealing with an extremely fictional universe anyway where these monsters could never exist as they are presented in the movies, and a giant fucking robot with the complexity Mechagodzilla is just not a feasible or technologically-attainable goal right now) theory that perhaps the Godzilla we see in the trailer isn't always the real Godzilla but Mechagodzilla wearing a synthetic skin. This is ridiculous, I know, but like I said: most of this fictional universe is.
It would be an excellent reference to Mechagodzilla's first appearance in the 1974 Toho film, "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla," where Mechagodzilla shows up to destroys cities wearing a synthetic skin so he looks exactly like Godzilla (but sounds nothing like him so I have no clue why Japan actually though this was Godzilla in the film). The real Godzilla comes to the rescue, and Mechagodzilla's synthetic skin disappears (alien technology lol), revealing a robot.
Perhaps the skin from Ghidorah's severed head from 2019's "King of the Monsters" could be used to create a synthetic skin? I'm not a scientist, though, so I have no idea how plausible this is. But more on the Ghidorah head a bit later.
Anyway, so, we now have a good idea of what Mechagodzilla's body will look like in "Godzilla vs. Kong." What about his face?
Tumblr media
SWEET JESUS WTF IS THAT?!
That, my friends, is a leaked photo of the Funko Pop Mechagodzilla and WTF IS GOING ON WITH HIS EYES? Maybe they will look less creepy in the movie, and they only look like this because the picture is low quality. But something tells me that Mechagodzilla's going to have freaky robot eyes.
So, "Godzilla vs. Kong" is a horror movie, confirmed.
But let’s go back to the Ghidorah head. We know the eco-terrorists from 2019′s “King of the Monsters” bought Ghidorah’s severed left head after the events of the film (how much did this thing cost????) I watched a video with a very plausible theory as to what will happen with this head in relation to Mechagodzilla.
In the video, the rumor is that the brain of the severed head of Ghidorah will be placed in Mechagodzilla’s head, and the Godzilla-like creature skeleton from the 2014 movie, “Godzilla,” will be used as part of the robot’s structure. Also, the Orca device technology see in the 2019 film will be placed in Mechagodzilla’s body, allowing him to control other Titans -- perhaps Godzilla himself and if it is the real Godzilla in the trailers, this could be why he’s behaving so aggressively. It sounds like a very logical scenario to me, and would explain the purpose of the eco-terrorists having bought the Ghidorah head. I mean, if that thing isn’t put to use in “Godzilla vs. Kong” then that post-credits scene was a waste of time.
Also, if this is true, then Mechagodzilla will be an enemy, which goes back to his debut in the 1974 movie.
I will say that the eco-terrorists don’t fully understand what they’ve done because they have acquired the severed left head of Ghidorah. The left head is the dumb one, and is nicknamed “Kevin” for a reason. This could be the derpiest Mechagodzilla of all time!
Anyway, enough about Mechagodzilla and Kevin, and let’s discuss two other very interesting toys leaked online:
Tumblr media
Mega Kong? Mega Godzilla? What is going on here?
Well, the theory for Mega Godzilla is that Kong (or even Mechagodzilla) destroys Godzilla’s dorsal fins in the movie, making it impossible for him to use his atomic breath until they regenerate -- which takes a long time. The humans give Godzilla an apparatus of sorts to help him out so he can continue to fight.
Tumblr media
For me, it seems a little odd that he still HAS dorsal fins as Mega Godzilla, though, and I can’t see there being a way to regrow them that fast even with human technology. There is a rumor that Mechagodzilla’s atomic heat ray is much more dangerous than Godzilla’s atomic breath, and perhaps the apparatus on Godzilla’s back is used to enhance it and put him on even ground with his evil robot counterpart.
But what about Mega Kong?
I think it’s like this: Kong and Godzilla are badly injured and incapable of defeating Mechagodzilla on their own, or they are in good shape but aren’t powerful enough as they are to defeat Mechagodzilla. In either scenario, humans help Godzilla and Kong by giving them some enhancements, allowing them to be able to face off against the evil robot with less trouble. Godzilla gets something on his back to increase the power of his atomic breath and Kong is given something to enhance his physical strength by making him even more macular.
Or Old Man Godzilla gets an epic back brace and Kong gets Titan steroids so they can successfully defeat Mecha Kevinzilla.

Discussion of Spoilers Below
... well.
I got some answers with the end of season one I guess, but I'm also left with more questions, especially about Aki's past and that memory chip. There have got to be more memories on that thing that are now reintegrating into his systems and I really hope that we get to see more of them, because I have a feeling Dr. Light is going to be very reluctant to disclose other details of Aki's (and by extension, Namagem's) past.
So far, we know that:
Aki/Mega-Man and Namagem are twins, built by Dr. Light near the end of the hard age.
Dr. Light knew that Aki was Mega-Man the entire time because of this.
Given the memory and the context of the scene, it seems that Aki booted up first and was awake for an unspecified amount of time before Namagem was taken.
Night was definitely abusive to Namagem and definitely gave him that scar.
My new list of questions:
Were Aki/Mega-Man and Namagem built to aid humans in fighting the war? Their (or at least Aki's) 'civilian' modes and human faces/behavior even when in armor could have been Dr. Light's attempt at, y'know, not absolutely freaking out everyone when he proposed his idea. Basically, they had armor and weapons to fight other robots but were purposefully built to look human so human soldiers would be a lot less likely to just shoot them and be done with it before Dr. Light could explain.
Alternatively, were they built to be double agents? Were they supposed to be sent undercover and send intel on robot movements/strategies to the humans?
How long was Aki awake? Was Namagem ever awake before he was taken or was he activated after he was stolen? And if Aki was awake for a good portion of the end of the war, was he ever on the battlefield?
Why did Dr. Light remove Aki's memory? Did he do so because of guilt? Did Aki see something he shouldn't have? Was he that distressed by Namagem being stolen? Or, if Aki actually fought in the war, did he remove it due to trauma?
Was Dr. Light planning on having Aki be Suna's sibling all along or did something else happen that have him the idea?
I just binged all of the episodes of Mega-Man: Fully Charged that are out (40 on the Cartoon Network website) in one day. I have some thoughts to get out of my head.
Is it neat? No. Does it make sense? Probably not, but I’m inflicting it upon this small fandom anyway.
((Since I’m getting thoughts out about many different parts of the series there are spoilers underneath the cut.))
