An ultra married an Alien Mefilas?! Meet Stolas Mefilas and Ultrawoman Rouge along with their daughter, Milena. They have a very lovey-dovey relationship with them being a power couple, starting one of the Nebula M78 biggest entertainment company, Giga Satsu.

Ultrawoman Rouge (an Ultra from V393) A renowned ultra actress and singer from all around the galaxy! A very mature, yet elegant ultra who's presence steals everyone else's spotlight when she performs. But off stage, she's quite a slobby person and a big foodie trying out different types of cuisines in the galaxy. In her spare time, she does Mukbang videos and dragging Stolas in some of her food ventures. Currently she resides in Land of Light (LoL) as a singer. She started her career from being a gravure model and a adult actress in her planet. A few years later, she met Stolas in the entertainment industry.

Stolas Mefilas

He comes from a noble family, and the Founder and Manager of Giga Satsu. Like any other Mefilas', he detests violence and is a courteous gentleman. But don't be deceived by his good looks since he's quite fond of Rouge being a slob and they have a very uncouth love life. Stolas started his journey by working in different jobs than invading planets since he doesn't want to be an invader like some Mefilas'. Years later, he met Rouge in a AV shoot that started their relationship. He's really dedicated with the company by following the law and give the workers the freedom of their rights if they don't want to take certain projects in the entertainment industry.

Their sweet daughter Milena will grow up and works as a yoga instructor and a part-time dance choreographer at her parents company.

Nishijima Hidetoshi Appreciation: Shin Ultraman

As I said in my last post, I’ve been on a Nishijima Hidetoshi tear lately and decided to do an appreciation post showing all the varied things Nishijima is capable of, but found that I had too many things I wanted to include. So now instead of one post I'm doing a few, each covering one film or show. Next up is Shin Ultraman. Nishijima's role in this movie isn't the most central. His character, Captain Tamura, is the leader of the team of government agents at the center of the movie, but the human counterpart to Ultraman and his human partner are a bigger focus than Tamura. The movie really wouldn't work nearly as well without Nishijima, though. I've noticed in the past that many of the best Ultraman series have a complex, compelling captain/leader figure. This film is no different. Tamura is relatable and funny without those things detracting from the competence and gravitas that he needs to show in order to be the trustworthy leader the story requires.

At certin moments, Tamura does seem a lot like Kakei Shiro from Kinou Nani Tabeta. It seems that they have the same annoyed face.

Tamura (like most of the other characters) is frequently placed in positions where he's hemmed in within the frame by various objects in the foreground, sometimes even people.

Here he looks tiny and insignificant in comparison to a huge stack of papers looming in front of him.

The message of this framing seems to be that Tamura is placed in challenging, restrictive situations in which forces that are both outside of himself and larger than himself have limited his options. Which is exactly what happens in the story.

Tamura stays determined, though. He may be scared, confused, or unsure of what to do next, but he keeps putting one foot in front of the other and looking for reasons to hope.

And he still maintains a sort of dry sense of humor.

Nishijima's performance in this movie is pretty low-key compared to some of his other work, but it's exactly what the film needs. He walks a pretty fine line to make Tamura both an admirable leader and a relatable guy who is as flummoxed by aliens and monsters as you or I might be. He ends up being a sort of linchpin for the movie and the subtlety of his performance is a big part of why that works.

By the way, another actor from Kinou Nani Tabeta also shows up in Shin Ultraman: Yamamoto Koji, who plays Kohinata Daisaku (a.k.a. Dai-chan). In Shin Ultraman, Yamamoto plays the human (well, human-looking) form of Mefilas, an alien who tries to make a predatory deal with human leaders. He's smarmy, a bit stilted, very sure of himself, and just a really fun character to have around. This role is practically tailor-made for Yamamoto, who seems to excel at playing characters who are unnerving in a low-key way (yet rather likeable at the same time).

This was a rewatch for me and I have to say, I like Shin Ultraman better every time I see it.
