It really gives insight into what each character was thinking & feeling. The love between them as friends, growing up together, was just so beautiful. Luka had known his sexuality and feelings for Rook at a young age. Out of self-preservation (Luka's words), he moves away for 5 years until his father's illness brings him back home. These two characters are really trying to work through their feelings and gain trust, and the close friendship back between them. Rook is really trying to find himself. He's been confused about his sexuality for years. Rook feels isolated and "different" because he's never felt a true connection with anyone that he's dated or been with sexually. The only true connection and love he's ever had was with his best friend, Luka. Realizing that he is demisexual, he's embracing who he is. Once Luka & Rook get honest with themselves and honest with each other, they come together so perfectly. It was always meant to be. It was inevitable. When tragedy strikes, where does that leave you? What does life look like? This book is all about best friends, second chances, the quest of finding yourself, trusting the ones you love, and trusting yourself. I cried, I laughed, and I really can't wait for more in this world with the next book.
