what do the malfoys think of reina and her family? and whats their stance on vytarian magic?
Went ahead and divided it into different sections since I wanted to include some info on Reina's family for context. Short versions included under each section cuz I can never stop myself from rambling lol
The Caelestis Clan
In short: An ancient and powerful clan known in both magical and non-magical worlds. Many elite families tried to form connections over the years. Also, pissing them off is a very bad idea.
--
Reina is part of an ancient and powerful clan known as the Caelestis, with their origins tracing back as far as the ancient Roman Empire. As practitioners of Vytarian Magic, they were equally powerful and skilled Mages. The family's influence was known in both magical and non-magical worlds thanks to all of their achievements over the years, so many elite families from both worlds often hoped to form connections with them.
Although the Caelestis were mostly Purebloods, they didn't believe in the supremacy nonsense to the point of looking down on those that did. From the early 70s to late 90s, the only living members of the Caelestis were Reina and her father Rolando. Unknown to the public, most of the clan had been wiped out back in the early 50s as they had fallen into corruption. Rolando was spared since he was a newborn. The family expands in 1994 when Talbott marries Reina, and in 1998 with the birth of their quadruplets Corvo, Ava, Raven and Altair.
Reina had been advised by her father to keep her clan's origins private, which is why they went by Cortez in the first place. It was to help avoid unwanted attention. When Merula discovered this secret during their 3rd year, she made it public in an attempt to ruin Reina's reputation. The intent was to reveal how someone of her status was willing to associate with Muggleborns and "Blood Traitors", but it instead achieved the opposite effect. For a brief time, many elite families tried to earn Reina and her dad's favor, with the Malfoys being no exception.
Malfoys
In short: Little Draco ends up bonding with Reina when they meet, which Lucius sees as beneficial to forming connections with her family.
Like several other Pureblood supremacist high society families, the Malfoys saw it best to keep their more critical opinions to themselves for the sake of forming connections. Also because it was unwise to piss off a family as powerful as the Caelestis. Certain people were noted to have suddenly disappeared in the past when they said the wrong thing.
They believed that the clan's open acceptance of those "beneath" them was due to being products of their environment. Rolando was adopted and raised by a Muggle and "Blood Traitor", and in an environment like Crystal Beach where it was normal for them.
I haven't played the 'Meet the Malfoys' SQ so I'll be going off just the initial meeting at the start of it. Lucius wouldn't antagonize Reina like he would in-game, and instead be as respectable as possible. While she'd see right past this, she'd go along with it for the sake of keeping things civil. No use causing unnecessary problems.
She would still bond with little Draco after he becomes fascinated with her magic, as she understood he was a product of his environment and a brat at worst because of it. Draco genuinely looked up to her, which his parents saw as the perfect opportunity to win the family's favor.
Views on Vytarian Magic
In short: They view it as an amazing power that's being wasted on people they see as beneath them, not counting the Caelestis family.
Not counting Draco, the Malfoys are one of many that view this magic as an amazing source of power that's wasted on a community like Crystal Beach, which is also the only known place in the world where it's taught. They feel it'd be far more beneficial at the hands of someone like Voldemort, who they feel is more worthy of such a power.
Despite the Contract System and rules of the magic put in place, it hasn't stopped others from trying to find ways around that to get that power for themselves, be it directly or indirectly. After befriending Reina, Draco genuinely wanted to learn it. On one hand, this was a great opportunity to be in good standing with the Caelestis family. On the other hand, it meant a potential clash of their respective beliefs.
Vytarian Mages pride themselves on rejecting elitist and hateful views such as Pureblood Supremacy, while the Malfoys embrace this. They feel that if they allowed Draco to learn that magic, they'd run the risk of him rejecting their beliefs or even distancing himself from them. No high society connection was worth that risk in their eyes.
Although Reina and her dad strongly dislike Lucius and Narcissa for good reason, they keep that to themselves for the sake of civility. They don't hold anything against Draco for the obvious reason that he's just a little kid, and as a show of good faith, gift him his own Familiar and Infinitus (spellbook) with his parents' permission.
They also allow him to keep in contact with Reina due to seeing her as a positive influence in terms of status, completely unaware of the positive impact she'd have on him and the person he'd become.

Yeah well it’s an even worse case with Merula (who’ll also be in the Hippogriff club sq btw) but you don’t seem to mind that they’re shoving her into literally everything. She’s got one of the worst cases by far, second only to Penny. Even then it’s still not much difference between them at all
On the contrary, anon. I do indeed mind that she's been overcentralized. I mean, I won't lie, she's one of my favorite characters if not my absolute favorite. So of course I enjoy seeing her. But that doesn't mean I want her and Penny to continue to rule the scene. Nor does it mean I enjoy all of her appearances. Just because she's in a lot of quests doesn't mean she's always written well, either. I won't lie, Merula's dialogue in the Enchanted Kiss TLSQ, for example, really felt like an afterthought. For some reason she keeps talking about throwing up. To the point where it does get a bit weird. And that's just a minor example. We've talked the inconsistent writing of Merula's character during the TLSQs before. Sure, some of my favorite outings with her are in TLSQs, like Meet the Malfoys and the first two Christmas quests, but not all of them are that great.

Do you place any of the time limited side quests at a different year from the game? For example, i think it makes sense for the Howling Halloween sq to be set after the sq with the forgetfulness potion in year 3 rather than year 1. The first Christmas sq also takes place in year 1, even though MC wouldn’t know Bill at that point. The patronus sq makes a reference to Mc being a legimellion even though they wouldn’t find that out till later.
I kind of stopped trying to fit all the TLSQs into my story at some point, but I still can’t help wondering where they belong into the canon story. And yeah, probably most of them don’t make sense where they’re placed by the devs (or at least would make more sense somewhere else). Now, I’ll try to keep it short, but I’m gonna comment on pretty much every TLSQ, so… beware.
YEAR 1:
Hagrid’s Birthday. It should’ve been at least Y2. Merula comments at one point that Dumbledore probably wants to give MC 100 House points (which really makes sense only after we got points at the end of Y1), and MC’s bond with Hagrid was much closer in Y2, so they’d indeed be the right person to throw his birthday. Especially that Hagrid canonically was born on December 6th, so in Y1, MC knew him only for three months.
Howling Hallowe’en. All right, so I personally HATE this TLSQ because MC duelling Greyback is stupid no matter their age. But if it has to exist, then as you said, it should’ve happened after “Penny For Your Thoughts”, so not before Y3. I believe Scarlett was supposed to die between Y2 and Y3, so before that, it doesn’t make sense that Penny’s fear of werewolves is so great. It also takes away from the relationship between Penny and Chiara (if Penny didn’t experience the death of her friend, it’s not that meaningful that she overcomes her prejudice for Chiara).
Christmas at Hogwarts. It CAN’T happen before Y2. When Rowan mentions Bill for the first time, MC doesn’t even know who he is. How would it make sense if they spent Christmas together a year earlier? Personally, I think it should be Y3 when MC’s friendship with both Bill and Tonks was closer already.
YEAR 2:
The Weird Sisters. This one should probably be Y4, even if only because of the Sisters’ age. Myron is supposed to be one year older than Bill, meaning that in MC’s Y4, Myron was in his last year. Orsino is supposed to be the same age as Percy, so at the same time he was in his second year – a bit young to be on the band, but possible (more likely than in his first year if you ask me).
Hosting the Beauxbatons. I guess it could stay in Y2, but MC talks quite a lot about the Cursed Vaults and how great they are at solving mysteries, so I believe that Y3 or even Y4 would make more sense.
Chiara’s TLSQ. It happens a year after the Halloween events, so it should be Y4.
Christmas at the Burrow. Again, since it happens a year after the previous Christmas TLSQ, it should be Y4. It goes well with Charlie coming to Hogwarts to rescue us because he and MC got pretty close in Y4 (working on the Forest Vault and all).
Meet the Malfoys. Lucius came to Hogwarts because the school governors were alarmed by the things going on at school, so it has to be after the Vault of Ice. Although, I’d argue that two vaults are more likely to be a reason for concern, putting the quest in Y4. Also, in MC’s second year, Draco was only five! He looked and acted more like a 7/8-years-old.
YEAR 3:
Become an Animagus. A friendly conversation with both Barnaby and Tulip at the very beginning of the quest suggests Y4.
The Frog Choir. It could stay in Y3 since Tulip acts rather uncertain about her friendship with MC. The problem is that it triggers too early. When I played with my second MC a while ago, I’m pretty sure it triggered even before I learnt from Tulip that she worked with Merula.
Flying Solo. It should be Y5 (I imagine that becoming an Animagus would take at least all Y4). There’s the whole conversation where Talbott talks about Rakepick’s white owl. In Y3, Merula thinks she’s about to meet Snape, but then, the mention of school owls doesn’t really make sense – it was definitely written with Rakepick in mind, so I just don’t understand why they placed it in Y3.
YEAR 4:
Become a Prefect. No complaints here.
Magical Creatures Everywhere. As far as I remember, there was nothing that wouldn’t really fit here, so I guess we’re also clear.
Celestial Ball. It’s a bit odd to have a ball when there’s the Sleepwalking Curse at school, but… sure, we can go with this.
Grand Pranksters. Yeah, I believe it all works here again. Tonks and Tulip are pretty close friends already, Rita returned like a couple of months after her second SQ (when we blackmailed her about being an unregistered Animagus). Even Ismelda’s part is okay since she was also one of the optional people to borrow a broom from.
The Patronus TLSQ. It probably should be Y5. The Legilimency scene you mention doesn’t happen if you do the quest in Y4, but the fact that it exists (and it’s quite developed) suggests that the quest was written with Y5 in mind. Again, I don’t understand why it was placed earlier.
First Date. I mean… sure.
YEAR 5:
Sir Cadogan. It definitely belongs to Y5 since it talks about Beatrice being trapped in the portrait. However, similar to the Frog Choir, it triggers too early. I believe it triggers in chapter 6 now. It’d make more sense after our fight in the Library (to remind MC how important it is to work with their friends) and after we found Scabbers in front of the Vault of Ice – so around chapter 14. In the TLSQ, Rakepick revived the Ice Knight, so MC shouldn’t have been that surprised seeing the cursed ice around the castle in the main story. Also, when they searched the Icy Corridor with Jae, it sure sounded like they weren’t there since Y2.
O.W.L.s. No complaints here.
Valentine’s Day. NOPE! Just nope. There’s no way Penny would care about stupid Valentine’s Day while Beatrice was trapped in the portrait. Similar goes to MC who was worried about both Haywood sisters AND they were anxious about finding Jacob in the next vault. Moreover, THERE’S NO WAY Rakepick would allow Lockhart to waste the time of her apprentices. I don’t know where else it fits better, but quite frankly, I don’t care.
The All-Wizards Tournament. I mean, I’m not mad about it being in Y5, but I actually like it better when I think that Hagrid and Kettleburn organised it to distract everyone after Rowan’s death. I’d say it’s more meaningful in Y6.
Festival Fun. Very similar arguments as for the First Date. Although, I suppose it could’ve happened on its own in Y5, just without the dating element.
YEAR 6:
The Dragon Sanctuary. Honestly, it’d probably make more sense as the summer holidays event or even post-graduation, but I guess Y6 is not bad.
The Headkid. Yep, makes sense.

I would like to thank all of my followers who have followed along on my second play through of Hogwarts Mystery!!
I'm now in year three! I should have that completed in a few days!
I finished the lone wolf SQ, I probably won't do Meet the Malfoys again, I'll wait for its second trigger, because I did it a week ago and I did not enjoy it and don't wanna do it again right now.
I probably will not start quidditch until year 4 because my celestial ball hair is my quidditch hair.
I'm probably gonna slow down through years 4 and 5 because I actually enjoy those years and they're a little longer anyways. I'll also focus on some SQs soon because honestly year three is my least favorite and i'll need to break it up a little to get through it.
also if you didn't see I kinda nixed the whole 'new MC' thing. It felt weird not playing as Victoria. I poured my heart and soul into her story. She will always be my MC and Hogwarts Mystery will always be her story.

Decided to do the Slug Club TLSQ since I was bored and it was...interesting to say the least lol What year is it meant to take place in?
Glad to see Rowan being included, even if it was just for a line or two.
This gave me a bit of a chuckle because I missed out on the Meet the Malfoys SQ. Included the bit from the latest Christmas SQ for further context. This ties closely to Reina's stance on the Malfoys in my au, as in, she'd have no idea who they are until meeting them. Not sure how that'd play out yet.
I only took more screenshots toward the end, but Lucius being such a little punk bitch is on-brand. The Laughing Burro bit was ridiculous but in a funny way. This grown-ass man really feels that threatened by a pair of students cuz "rEpUtAtIoN"
It's giving major insecurity, Lucie. Funny how this made Snape a bit better in comparison, only because he didn't pull any sabotage attempts.
Loser LMAO
Bitch.
I had Reina tell him off LMAO He's just as awful as ever. I chose to have Reina join the Slug Club in-game as a fuck-you to Lucie.
For those that played and selected the other option instead of telling him off, did he still join the dinner at the end?

yeah, i just don’t like how she gets some growth and progress in (tl)sq’s but that’s basically never translated into the main story. it’s like side quest merula & main story merula are two different characters. especially if you decide to date her (never understood why she’s a love interest tbh). i’ve seen videos & she seems a lot more sweet, but she’s back on her bs in the main story. i don’t understand how she & mc would still be dating by sixth year, she treats them like garbage a lot in it
Agreed. It’s odd how the writing of Merula is all over the place in the TLSQs and not at all reflective of what year they’re “canonically” supposed to take place in. Going off how Merula behaves, the Christmas TLSQs should take place in Years 4 and 5, not 1 and 2. Yet the TLSQ about Magical Creatures is apparently a later one, but Merula is entirely antagonistic? With Meet the Malfoys, she’s back to being MC’s grumpy sort-of friend, even though it drops in Year 2? I get what they’re trying to do but the continuity of the TLSQs is so vague that it makes Merula’s character seem to fluctuate a lot.
Why is she a love interest? Simple answer - the shippers. A lot of players wanted to be able to date Merula well before we even knew if dating quests were going to be a thing. She’s always been a fan favorite. Plus, my personal theory is that at least a few of the writers ship MC/Merula as well. Whether or not you like them together, there is a significant amount of coding for them, in the main story and in the TLSQs. Like, MC canonically finds Merula attractive, going off the flavor text.
Yeah, Year 6 is the bane of most MC/Merula shippers because not only has she rejected any and all bonding that she was starting to develop with them, there’s also her newfound crush on Jacob. Staying strictly canon, I think we just have to assume that for MCs that are dating Merula, she breaks up with them at the end of Year 5. If she was chosen for dating quests, MC even alludes to that and phrases it like they’ve been dumped.

yo you got any idea when they're dropping the new dating sidequest? seeing june is almost over and if the sq is supposed to be in celebration of pride month, i wonder if maybe we'll get it this thursday?
Unfortunately, I don’t. I hope it comes out Thursday, but it could just as easily come out next week...and that’s assuming that it comes out in June at all. It might not. Ideally it should, and it’s probably planned to...but who knows, maybe something’s caused a delay behind the scene. Got to be honest, if it’s a choice between the TLSQ being late, and them rushing the development to meet some deadline...I’d rather we just wait a bit longer, because I am 95% sure that rushing to meet the Valentines Day deadline is what made that particular TLSQ feel...unfinished.
Alternatively, you can look out for a new achievement in the menu. TLSQs that have been finished are always marked as accomplishments, and they often put in a teaser for upcoming ones - they did that for Meet the Malfoys. If there is one there, it should mean the quest is coming soon.
