Meet the Artist(s): "The Scary Alter"
There's a lot of misconceptions about DID by both those who don't have it and those who do. One of those is that system alters are dangerous. That there is a "dangerous" alter. An "evil" one. A "scary" one. Media likes to play this one aspect up, especially for thriller movies (think "Split"). To many, even those within my own system, I would be considered a "dangerous" or "scary" alter.
My painting represents coming out of my forced isolation. I was isolated because members of my own system are scared of me and the feelings I hold. However, pushing those feelings away, isolating them, does more harm than good in the long run. Our feelings are a part of us. Acknowledge your feelings and meet them where they stand. Only then can you accept who you really are and heal.
“Meet the Artist(s)” is a series of paintings that take a look at us as individual alters. All of our large paintings are collaborative, like a group project, just because of how often we switch and how many of us like to paint. For this series we wanted to step back and allow ourselves to each make a painting on our own. It was completely optional so no part was forced to make something. The prompt was to introduce yourself or meditate on your role. This allows the viewer to see each individual part’s style and get to know a little bit about us just by what we paint.

Meet the Artist(s): "Silly Little Mental Health Walk"
There's a trail out west by my parents house that I'd go to regularly the summer I lived there. It changed every time I went. Every time felt a little new, even if I never went any further down the path.
My memories are scattered and renewed so often and it feels a lot like that trail. My life is a little different every time I come back. My hair is longer. My room is different. I've lost something... I try to try it like a new adventure instead of being as afraid as I feel. After all, it can't be helped.

All of our large paintings are collaborative, like a group project, just because of how often we switch and how many of us like to paint.
