Mee Siam for breakfast was delicious and filling. The idea of 'breakfast food' isn't as strict here, and I like that.

👫
Send a 👫and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship
Sheldon used to have his usual order of mee krob and chicken satay with extra peanut sauce from Siam Palace on Monday night for Thai food night but now that he has Harley in his life he has opened up his palate to new and interesting items and lets her order whatever she desires. He has learned he enjoys these things too.
2. He has become more open to "affection." He hugs her and kisses her often. Sometimes even in public. (How shocking) No but this is a big step for him since before he was against anyone touching him but now he has come to crave Harley's touch and in a way has almost become addicted to her. One thing for sure he loves the way she smells like a strawberry sundae and her cherry flavored lip balm.
3. This ties in more with the above listed but he doesn't mind when she stays the night. He ordered things on Amazon and even went to Bath and Body Works with Penny to get her favorite bathing essentials. Sheldon doesn't mind sharing a toothbrush holder with her either.
4. He is thinking of getting her a cute little kitten for their six month anniversary. But don't say anything. It's supposed to be a surprise.

大家好! I decided to give parents a fine dining experience and made crab and pine nut salad sandwiches. For this recipe, I folded tzatziki into real crab, pine nuts, chia seeds, parsley, mixed herbs, pesticide-free salad vegetables and roasted seaweed, piled on the toppings till the sourdough bread was almost invisible and finished it off with more roasted seaweed and roasted sesame seeds. Parents. Loved. It. In order to maintain healthy cholesterol levels, we had just 1 sandwich each. I'll make this again in 2 - 3 months' time. It's our favourite, the combo is so delicious. Mummy said if she ate this at a restaurant, it would cost at least $35 with much less crab and pine nuts and it's true. So glad I'm able to bring a slice of fine dining to our homes at a fraction of the price.

Mummy and I returned to LeNu (yes, again!). I wanted to try the dumpling la mian (handpulled noodles) since Mummy said it was nice. She had xue cai yu (preserved vegetables and fish) la mian and we shared hong you chao shou (wontons in vinegar and chilli oil) as well as poached lettuce. The dumplings are very very VERY delicious! Their silky skins are filled with plump, juicy, well-marinated pork. Unlike quite many hawker stalls nowadays, they don't stinge where meat is concerned. It's no wonder this la mian chain is doing roaring business during very tough economic times - they give diners what we want: good value.
Tumblr media
Recently, there has been a spate of restaurant closures. I discussed this phenomenon with parents when we caught up over lunch. Based on what I've experienced, once food businesses cut corners or indiscriminately raise prices, it marks the beginning of a downward spiral. We no longer find what they serve worth our dollars so we pull back. This eats into their profits so they cut corners even more, which makes it less worthwhile for us to spend. A local cafe which serves mee siam that I used to praise cut their portion sizes and skimped on ingredients. I'd wanted to introduce Mummy to it but I won't now and I'm not ordering it any more. Instead, I'll have my meals elsewhere and just order coffee here.
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong; there're plenty of ethical food businesses in Singapore. We're not known for being a gastronomic paradise for nothing. There're some bad apples here, just like in other countries; they're forever whining about not making a profit, yet places like LeNu are always crowded. Several food stalls used to enjoy long queues of diners waiting to place their orders until they raised their prices indiscriminately to extract as much profit as possible. Previously long lines noticeably shortened. Once people get a sour taste in their mouths, they usually don't return. If the food is really delicious, they may revisit once a month instead of every week. Who's to blame? It's oftentimes food business owners' greed which leads to their downfall.
Tumblr media
Parents are elderly; their hair is silver and white. It was so painful to realise they were shelling out premium prices for quality and nutrition much lower than what I can prepare at home. Now, after eating my homemade sandwiches for weeks, they can't go back to ordering them at cafes. To them and me, this is what 'made with love' truly looks like - from nutrition to taste, they get the very best that I can deliver and they don't have to pay a cent. 下次见!

xi ting and summer came over on my birthday and we baked the yummiest cake ever. it was a medovik cake a russian honey cake. it was a bumpy ass process and we were all sweating in that kitchen. xi ting was precise and locked tf in with the dough while summer and i danced to the adults are talking by the strokes. i taught summer how to do the shuffle kick, we just jumped around and danced like crazy people. it was so fun when xi ting joined us and we all played together. the theme was mcbling and xi ting had this really good idea for her hair and we won the competition. my favourite part of the day funnily enough was when we were having lunch, mee siam, 2 boxes of it from baba low's, and i got them plates and i gave summer my prawns and she got so happy. we talked and talked about funny nonsense and there were side eyes thrown and laughs laughed and i didn't want it to end. we only stopped because we were literally only 10% done with the cake but i think we could have talked and sat there until our bodies became overgrown with ivy or moss. xi ting rolled out the dough, the kitchen counter was all floury, summer cut the last piece into a heart and i put the heart on top of the cake. then 2 days later i ate into the heart and it was soft and beautiful

Had buffet dinner at Asian Market Cafe, Fairmont Hotel on April 13 2024. The spread is quite good with a fair amount of Eastern and Western cuisines. As usual there is the seafood on ice comprising crayfish, crab legs (skinny though), oysters, prawns and shellfish. There is the ever popular DIY laksa, mee siam and Chinese rojak. Satays are in abundance, always replenished. Pratas are special with chicken meat inside. Spicy red mutton and chicken curries, chili crabs, baked fish, roast items, crispy popiahs, sushi and sashimi, different salads, and the list goes on. Being a dessert fanatic and limited space here, I only feature the dessert items. Durian pengat is commendable and with ice cream is perfect. A good buffet after a long lapse of time.

Wanted to try their paru but they were out. Trying out their Mee Siam instead. It's punchy, sour, slightly sweet and savoury. They were extremely generous with the noodles.

Another new foodie entry after so long! Yay!
Yup, very short name for this new place we went to. Passed by this place a couple of times with my hubs and never really thought of trying it, but since we had to do something within the vicinity and this is ultimately new that neither of us been before, we decided to give it a shot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Location: Times Square, right at the end of the building next to a bunch of ATM machines
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Setting: Very minimalistic, kinda very cramped, and from the looks of the menu, it seems that there is very limited choices of food to have for lunch.
Tumblr media
My Milo drink
Tumblr media
My buddy's Iced Yuen Yang, which is a blend of coffee and tea
Tumblr media
My buddy's chicken curry
Tumblr media
My Mee Siam
Tumblr media
Kaya and butter toast
As a tea connoisseur, my buddy finds his Yuen Yang delightful that the tea flavour still shines through despite the presence of coffee. But for me, was not my cup of tea, no pun intended. My Milo drink, on the other hand, has a layer of Milo powder on top, prolly trying to emulate the feel of Milo Dinosaur feel, but it tastes pretty good for me.
The portion size for my buddy's chicken curry is huge with almost half a chicken inside the bowl. As you can see, it was not too oily and even the skin of the thigh was removed, which was something my buddy doesn't find it too favourable. For my Mee Siam, it's nice and flavorful. Not too spicy and the sourness of the sauce is pretty spot on. The noodles were cooked well too and the eggs were the best amongst it all. The only beef I have about it is that mee siam is supposed to be served in a bowl, not on a plate.
Brought my daughter along, so ordered the toast for her to eat while I had my food. It's quite sweet, and yes, crispy yet soft all at the right places. The butter is a little off, makes it look very fatty though. But my little princess likes it! XD
By far, the place is definitely clean and lots of lighting, but not exactly comfortable for me. If you want to go eat there, you need to be there for tea time, not full blown lunch because it wouldn't feel right as their menu seems to be specialized in toasts and the lunch menu is super limited.

大家好! I made my most popular sandwich to date: an open-faced sandwich using 9-grain bread topped with salad greens and a delicious combo of tuna, butter beans, sweet corn and low-fat hummus. Parents adored this so much, they waxed lyrical about it, so I'll make them once a month. Instead of cracked black pepper, which I find less fragrant, I sprinkled ground white pepper over the mix. Mummy, who, like me, dislikes beans, adored this combo. I feel more confident now, thus, I'll try another bean and hummus sandwich soon.

Before tonkatsu reached our shores, we had our Hainanese pork chop. Mummy's ancestors hailed from Hainan and I was keen to explore this part of my heritage. A Hainanese cafe that sells yummy local coffee also serves delicious local delicacies such as elevated mee siam and Hainese pork chops, so I decided to try the latter. A large slab of juicy meat fried till crispy and bathed in savoury mushroom gravy was accompanied by potato wedges that were light and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. I. Wiped. My. Plate. Clean. OMG this was really delicious. If I had the stomach room, I would've eaten another. I'll return to try their original version soon. Mummy wants to tag along because she said this looks legit, like what she ate during her childhood.

Mummy and I revisited the swimming club cafe and I decided to try their salmon poké bowl. This was served with a yuzi dressing which was quite pleasant. I drizzled less than half of it over the bowl because I didn't want it to overwhelm the taste of fresh fish and veggies. Underneath was fluffy Japanese short-grain rice, which I can't resist so yes, I finished everything. This was SO yummy. I would hesitate to call this poké since the fish is usually marinated in rock salt; this version uses sashimi-grade salmon. But the refreshing combo of fresh veggies, seaweed, fresh fish and fluffy rice is addictive. I can't wait to eat this again!

Finally, over a year after the genocide in Gaza began, a ceasefire deal has been reached. As Palestinians celebrated the news, I celebrated along with them by having a simple breakfast. I'll continue having them until food aid surges in the hunger-stricken strip and innocent civilians are no longer at risk of dying from malnutrition. After that, I'll still have them, except I'll have 2 instead of 1. I'll also go on making sandwiches using hummus as a healthier substitute for mayo because YUM. It will probably take over a decade to rebuild Palestine - and I'm being very optimistic - but these are very resilient people and there will come a day when they thrive again.

I won't forget what has been done to Palestine for a very long time. The war atrocities are so catastrophic, barbaric and brutal, they're firmly etched in my memories. At the same time, I'm relieved that there's some hope for peace in the region. After following this genocide in Gaza, educating myself about the Palestinian struggle and seeing Palestinians' beautiful warm smiles in spite of their suffering, they have a place in my heart. If they post about how they rebuild their country, I'll be sure to share them. 下次见!
