As we roamed Medoc Mountain, the ground gave a discourse on mushrooms—kinds that clean up the forest wood, kinds that might kind of be edible, kinds that kill. It was the same ground that a hundred and seventy years before talked abundantly about grapes— grapes good for making wine, grapes good for resisting rot, grapes native to here and nowhere else. It does not really talk grape anymore, and though I wish it would, I know I should also learn more mushroom.

Four Loco
I experiment with a lot of cheap Bordeaux (I consider anything under $40 “cheap Bordeaux”) and while it is an interesting past-time, it can–as most of you know–be fraught with a LOT of disappointments. It doesn’t stop me though! The vast majority of these wines fall into one of two catagories: so harshly unfruited and unapproachable their value is nil, or so ‘California-esque’ in ripeness and…

Bordeaux - Day 2: 28th August 2024
We booked ourselves a winery tour to the medoc winery tour which took the whole day. It was a small group tour where we accompanied senior couple and our tour guide was Australian from Hunter Valley. She was lovely and friendly but we were disappointed the tour guide was not a local.
She drove us to a Medoc winery cellar where a local actually showed us around and taught us about wine about the region. Medoc region were covered in vines as far as the eyes can see. However, it was not as nice as St Emillion. Overall, we enjoyed the experience especially we are not wine drinkers but I felt I learnt a lot about wine.

Chateau La Tour de By

High Mountain
I gotta say something about this wine… I can’t just group it into a bottle-post and say “This was good.” It goes way beyond that. 15 and 16 were interesting vintages in Bordeaux, with intensely structured wines and the latter seeming a bit more *user friendly* than the former. And this 15 checks all those boxes with aplomb. Dark and dank, it showcases black fruit, figs and concentrated cherry in…
