[SUNNY GRAVES. 30. CIS FEMALE. SHE/HER] is here! They’ve lived in Asbury Park for [20 YEARS] and are originally from [POINT PLEASANT, WEST VIRGINIA]. They are a [TOUR GUIDE/EMPLOYEE AT PARANORMAL BOOKS & CURIOSITIES/THE PARANORMAL MUSEUM] and in their downtime love [HORROR MOVIES] and [WITCHCRAFT]. They look a lot like [OLIVIA COOKE] and live in [MEADOWLARK APARTMENTS]. The song that makes people think of them the most is [ANDROMEDA BY WEYES BLOOD].
☾ playlist. ☾ pinterest. ☾ muse. ☾ connections.
━━ ⟢ i. the basics full name → sunny louise graves birthday → 06/02/1994 big three → gemini sun, pisces moon, scorpio rising height → 5'5" sexual orientation → bisexual mbti → infj hometown → point pleasant, west virginia
━━ ⟢ i. personality tidbits - has that complex anxious avoidant attachment style - when she senses someones pulling back she's like swerve - dropping hints like she's the queen of ghosting - she can be very all or nothing in regards to that so like you may get a text from her once every other week or she'll bomb you with them all at once in a span of five minutes - is a great friend but she's intense so she's not for everyone - always assumes everyone's mad at her - her hometown is where mothman was famously cited, and yeah she makes that a personality trait - she practices witchcraft and has an altar to the deities she worships - though i feel as if she's still pretty skeptic if she believes in ghosts she kinda cancels out proof even if it's right in front of her face. her logical side of her brain kind of kicks in and clears it out. she can be pretty self motivated, even if its unbeknownst to herself. - playlists are her love language - finds comfort in meditation instead of going fucking insane, sometimes both - always falls for emotionally unavailable people, a lot of times her bosses 😭 - very into metaphysics like tarot, astrology, etc - loves horror movies and probably watches at least one a day (probably while she's eating dinner ngl)
━━ ⟢ i. go deeper tw: alcohol, drug use, abuse, suicide - m o m m y i s s u e s 🥳 - sunny grew up in a tumultuous household with her parents always fighting and money was always tight - it wasn't until she was 10 that she moved to asbury park where she was hopeful things would improve since her father landed a better job, but things quickly deteriorated - as she got older her mom developed bad habits with drugs, and her father coped with alcohol - as a byproduct she was kind of abandoned emotionally, and didn't really have anyone to turn to - her mom was self medicating a larger problem under the surface, and sunny had the misfortune of walking in on her mom trying on several occasions to take her own life - as a result she couldn't focus in school or, would hyper focus on the wrong things and daydream instead of listening in her classes - got the rep of not only the new kid, but the weird new kid - and as things usually happen, one day when her guard was down because her mom appeared to be doing better, so she decided to go hang out at a friend's house after school one day. - when she returned home later than normal, she walked around her house looking for her mom. to her disbelief, she found her mom hanging from the shower curtain rod, and was in denial that her mom was really gone since she'd always caught it in time before. - hours later her father found sunny holding her mom up talking to her limp body about how she made a friend at school finally. - when the emts arrived on scene trying to load her mom onto the stretcher, sunny wouldn't allow them to take her mom away from her until her dad had to physically pick her up and carry her away - she blamed herself for not being there for her mom sooner - she hasn't ever really dealt with her mother's death, i think in a way she tried to acquaint herself closely with death instead. she would buy ouija boards trying to contact her mother from the other side. hire psychic mediums, go to palm readers, anything for a sign from her mom - whew that was fun! thank you for sticking around if you made it this far into this dumpster fire
━━ ⟢ i. connections - literally anything and everything - people she's once passed on the street and projected romantic fantasies on, friends, friends of a friend, cousins, exes, ex hookups, ex situationships, enemies, neighbors, old co-workers, old classmates, old classmates that used to bully her etc etc gimme gimme gimme

Okay I'll bite, why do you think Virginia will step down as sovereign and who do you think will replace her?
Related thought: I was very into the idea of splitting the solar system into spheres of influence when Diomedes suggested it. Obviously his initial approach was naive. But it seems like a natural progression for the story, so I wouldn't be surprised if a Triumvirate does end up happening. Just need to pick a better third than 🙄Lysander🙄
Thank you for biting lol. The answer is Holiday!
I think it’s been foreshadowed quite a bit that Virginia will step down as sovereign once the war is done. In IG she tells Darrow that maybe after her term is up she won’t run for office again, and in DA when she’s escaping the citadel she vows that it’s the second to last time she leaves it, so clearly she’s had enough of the sovereigncy. And, to be honest, it seems many of the people have had enough of her. Yes the day of red doves was instigated by lilath and the abomination, but there had to have been resentment building for it to go off the way it did. And also, my girl deserves a BREAK. If she and Darrow both live they are heading off to a cabin in the middle of nowhere like “no one ever bother us again please and thank you.”
As for Holiday specifically as the replacement, I think it’s been foreshadowed as well. In DA, we find out she’s been reading Silenus’s meditations on Virginia’s recommendation, and Virginia says this:
And then in LB, she gives a rousing speech to what remains of the high command and victra says this:
We’ve seen her pull away from the howlers and more into virginias confidence over the last few books, and I think these two things could be setting her up as a replacement sovereign (or, honestly, a leader under a different title, as a signal that they are moving further away from the society).
And honestly, I think holiday would be a great candidate. She’s intelligent, level headed, firm but willing to compromise, humble without being a pushover. She’s an important figure in the initial rising, a long time son of ares, and she’s also got a legion military background, so I think she’s in a unique position to understand both the supporters and the skeptics of the republic.
She also has absolutely no desire for that kind of power, which is one of the qualities that make the best leaders, because she won’t become power hungry and abuse her position. And most importantly, she’s not a member of the previous ruling class. If the republic ever wants to move forward with true equality, they can’t keep handing the reigns from gold to gold to gold.
I also think, assuming Virginia lives and steps down willingly, she’d be a great confidante to holiday and be able to help her bear the weight of all those people. She’s mentioned how lonely the morning chair is, and I think she’d be more than willing to be an understanding ear if holiday took it over, since they’ve become so close.
Also, yeah, the spheres of influence really intrigued me when diomedes brought it up, especially since we saw how so many of the citizens of mercury were vehemently against the rising. I could see someone else (not Lysander obviously, as I suggested maybe Cicero since he got more focus than I expected this time around and he seems fed up with war already and more willing to lay down arms than, say, Julia au Bellona) ruling the core with some version of the hierarchy still intact but without the unwilling subjugation of anyone who doesn’t actively choose to, as diomedes said “give up their freedom in exchange for security.” Idk it doesn’t seem ideal, but this series is all about exploring the little gray areas.
#red rising#light bringer spoilers#holiday ti nakamura#thanks for the ask that I practically begged for lol#this theory has been percolating in the back of my head since victra said the thing#one suggestion could be nothing but two suggestions seems to be building a pattern#the rule of three would suggest we’re in for another one in red god#possibly they’ll do a real election like what Darrow did with the volk

books read in June:
Orlando, Virginia Woolf: Third time’s the charm for actually finishing this I guess. It’s very whimsical. I had thought it was just Orlando who didn’t age, but it’s most of the characters, because, I think, they are all representatives of aspects of “the age” or a zeitgeist, and Orlando, I believe, is the English Spirit. The way Woolf treats the Tudor era as a kind of quasi-historical, quasi-legendary sandbox was very interesting, and got me thinking about how different historical periods take on a fairy-tale quality in different cultures. The one I tend to associate with that type of gilbly ahistorical playfulness is the “Medieval” period of Europe, or the “Regency” period of England, so it was interesting seeing an author from the 1920s doing this with a different period, because which period gets that treatment shifts with time. The way she writes Orlando’s gender change is both more modern than I was expecting and also very much a meditation on sexism and gender-roles first, and a story about “what if sex and gender were fluid” second. There is, however, a ton of racism, anti-Romani racism and orientalism baked into the crust of the story. Orlando’s sex change is brought on in Turkey, possibly by their marriage to a “gypsy” woman, and then the newly female Orlando spends many years wandering with some more “gypsies” who live in a mythical state of gender equality and shun wealth and art. Yeah. I did think it was interesting that the way Woolf, an English person writing in the early 20th century, described the Ottoman empire of the 1600s was as a generic orientalist fantasy, where these exotic backwards brown people a prone to dangerous and ignorant superstition and religious fervor, unlike the English people living there. This is, of course, how someone living in the late British Empire would see any culture that wasn’t theirs. It is NOT how an English person from the 1600s would have seen the Ottoman empire at all. (The Ottoman Empire in the 1600s was seen a exotic, yes, but also geopolitically dangerous, someone your country had a history of war with and who could not only hold their own, but take territory and people in “Christian” countries, a major and important trading partner with advanced goods, and religiously also very dangerous. There was a preoccupation with Ottoman women who were seen as both cloistered and loose because of the stereotypes and misconceptions around harems and also assumptions stemming from their ways of dress being different from European standards for women’s clothing.) There was also a point where you could feel Woolf wanting to take the sex change in the direction of lesbianism, but pulling back and instead having Orlando become a reluctant heterosexual. An interesting and mostly fun read, but very much a product of an English middle class late imperial author.
Sister Outsider, Audre Lorde: Easily one of the best nonfiction books I’ve ever read, and I’m kicking myself it took me that long to read it. One of the reasons I drug my feet was that I am very used to seeing Lorde’s words as pithy slogans used by other progressives in ways that shut down dialogue, and I had assumed they were using her words in the spirit in which they were written. They were not. Her commitment to accepting differences, and using those differences as a starting point for growth and for relationship was astounding and enlightening and not something I feel like I see often. I was also struck by her commitment to critique and anger as avenues for repair rather than cudgels to silence other people with. Her essays on her trips to the USSR and Grenada were also very enlightening. (I am aware that her purpose in writing was not to enlighten me, but that was the effect nonetheless). Overall, some of the most powerful clear-eyed prose I’ve ever encountered. I think there are some parts of this that have not aged the best, however. Her letter to Mary Daly, while a master-class in how to communicate with someone you are in community with who has harmed you along lines of oppressed identity who you still want to be in community with, does praise a lot of what is written in Gyn/Ecology while calling out the racism in it. There’s a non-negligible amount of talk about spiritual power and magic that I was able to parse as basic hippie and specifically Black hippie stuff with a feminist bent that I know writers who claim to be feminists but aren’t have taken as support for their divine womb weirdness. I do also think it’s necessary to look at this as a historical document. Spirituality was big on the left in the 70s. Its not surprising that many feminists in the 70s were also exploring that. Spirituality and religion had been largely on male terms up to that point. It’s not stupid that part of the explosion of feminist projects included trying to create a woman-focused and centered spirituality or try to recenter women in religious practice in a way that wasn’t just slotting women into the current system. The necessary reckoning between feminism and trans liberation hadn’t happened yet when most of these essays were being written, so there is a big blind spot there, though much of what she says is very applicable to trans liberation struggles. So, one of the best nonfiction books I have ever read, period.
Inside the Money Machine, Minnie Bruce Pratt: I’m glad I found this book (by accident, in the used section of a poetry bookshop). The poems are very approachable for someone who isn’t used to reading much poetry, and they are all portraits and explorations of the alienation and in/dignity of employment and unemployment in the USA, specifically from a working class perspective. I found every one of them struck a chord, and I think it’s a crying shame that Leslie Feinberg is a household name in specifically Queer circles, but Minnie Bruce Pratt (Leslie’s long-term partner and spouse) is not, especially among people who consider themselves champions of femmes. Anyway. “Inside the Money Machine” is amazing.”
Her Body and Other Parties, Carmen Maria Machado: Some of the stories in here were very good, and I would like to see more from this author, especially if she leans more into horror/sci-fi. Some of them did that Thing that I’ve noticed debut collections of short stories do where they write incredibly mundane things with this air of vague menace that I think is supposed to be a more intellectual or literary way of doing horror or thriller? And I’m unfortunately not a fan of that. It was cool the first few times I saw it but mostly I’m left feeling like there was all this build up and no pay off, because in these stories nothing bad actually happens, and that’s supposed to Say Something, but I never quite get what, I guess. I did think she very effectively crafted feminist horror, where the horror was men’s entitlement, or beauty standards, or the way society demands a particular type of gendered self-erasure from women. Good, but I’m not sure I get why it won the National Book Award.
Written on the Body: Jeanette Winterson: So other than Winterson deciding to take whatever she misremembered about Jewish people and create a Dickensian caricature with that (bad, don’t do this), it was a great read and exactly what I come to Winterson for, namely that extravagant interiority and rich prose. I applaud Winterson’s effort to write a narrator that could have been any gender, but personally, I don’t buy the narrator as a cis man. I don’t think that’s a flaw, just that it’s interesting that the author’s project stumbled on that wrung because of how she wrote the romance. The story is steeped in eroticism, which is especially seductive because all descriptions of sex must remain vague to support the original conceit. It forces the author to abandon any cheap shorthand of sexiness and instead find ways for everything to be erotic. It is the opposite of “everything is pornographic and nothing is erotic” and I very much enjoyed that.

Black History Month: Nonfiction Recommendations
How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
Ibram X. Kendi's concept of antiracism reenergizes and reshapes the conversation about racial justice in America - but even more fundamentally, points us toward liberating new ways of thinking about ourselves and each other. In How to be an Antiracist, Kendi asks us to think about what an antiracist society might look like, and how we can play an active role in building it.
In this book, Kendi weaves together an electrifying combination of ethics, history, law, and science, bringing it all together with an engaging personal narrative of his own awakening to antiracism. How to Be an Antiracist is an essential work for anyone who wants to go beyond an awareness of racism to the next step: contributing to the formation of a truly just and equitable society.
Caste by Isabel Wilkerson
Beyond race, class, or other factors, there is a powerful caste system that influences people’s lives and behavior and the nation’s fate. Linking the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany, Wilkerson explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations, including divine will, bloodlines, stigma, and more. Using riveting stories about people - including Martin Luther King, Jr., baseball’s Satchel Paige, a single father and his toddler son, Wilkerson herself, and many others - she shows the ways that the insidious undertow of caste is experienced every day.
The Black Church by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
For the young Henry Louis Gates, Jr., growing up in a small, residentially segregated West Virginia town, the church was a center of gravity - an intimate place where voices rose up in song and neighbors gathered to celebrate life's blessings and offer comfort amid its trials and tribulations. In this tender and expansive reckoning with the meaning of the Black Church in America, Gates takes us on a journey spanning more than five centuries, from the intersection of Christianity and the transatlantic slave trade to today’s political landscape. At road’s end, and after Gates’s distinctive meditation on the churches of his childhood, we emerge with a new understanding of the importance of African American religion to the larger national narrative - as a center of resistance to slavery and white supremacy, as a magnet for political mobilization, as an incubator of musical and oratorical talent that would transform the culture, and as a crucible for working through the Black community’s most critical personal and social issues.
Black Futures edited by Kimberly Drew & Jenna Wortham
Kimberly Drew and Jenna Wortham have brought together this collection of work - images, photos, essays, memes, dialogues, recipes, tweets, poetry, and more - to tell the story of the radical, imaginative, provocative, and gorgeous world that Black creators are bringing forth today. The book presents a succession of startling and beautiful pieces that generate an entrancing rhythm: Readers will go from conversations with activists and academics to memes and Instagram posts, from powerful essays to dazzling paintings and insightful infographics.

Happy First Birthday, Maple! She was delighted to receive this tricycle and I was happy that Katie sent me a picture of her riding it. We are grateful that our little granddaughter completed her first pass around the sun today with a history of a very healthy and happy life so far!
Bruce and I made a video that I sent to Katie saying Happy Birthday to Maple and we'll say it in person in a few days. Katie and Hobie wanted to spend today alone with her, which is understandable.
I really love my little study in the wing of our house on the other side of the meditation garden. It gives me my own space to work, write, ruminate, and meditate, and now it's also where Matilda lives because she still hasn't become comfortable with our "kittens", who have grown up to be pretty big cats.
While I'm not really much of a painter, there was a time when I took "Passion painting" classes and I loved the experience, which seemed more like art therapy than anything else. It was during one of the more challenging times of my life and the painting helped to keep me sane. I was also reading "My Geisha" at the time and that inspired the painting that hangs on the wall of my study, just above my grandmother's rocking chair, which is one of the only things of hers that I am lucky to still have.
I also had fun painting this jungle scene, with all the animals, including snakes, monkeys, butterlies, and spiders. The kangaroo mother represents me and the little joey in her pouch represents Hobie. It fits well with the wooden banana tree we brought back from Bali many years ago.
This afternoon my friend, Virginia, and I did a site visit to HomeAhead at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and spent time with their Executive Director, Mary, and the chair of their board and founder of the organization, Joe. Virginia and I are on the Board Development Resource Team at Social Venture Partners and we signed up to help Mary and Joe by training their board on the responsibilities of board members and the best practices of effective boards.
HomeAhead is a truly unique nonprofit organization and I'm happy for the chance to work with them. They collect and provide household necessities to formerly unhoused residents of our community when they move into apartments provided by other organizations which work with this population. HomeAhead provides furniture, bedding, tableware, and other things which help turn the apartments into homes for their clients.
We toured the big storage space on the grounds of St. Andrews, which is only one of four they have in various locations and then we went into the church to see the rooms which were completely full of housewares.
Virginia and I will work on our presentation this week to be prepared to present it at the HomeAhead board meeting next week. I'm grateful for this opportunity to help build capacity at one of my now favorite nonprofits in Boulder County.

Prompt 23 - "layers"
Rose doesn't usually wear many layers because she knows spells that can keep her warm. She usually wears her trenchcoat, though; she sees it as a lucky item.
Jedi typically wear 3 layers: their undergarments, their primary robes & their outer robes (which are the longer ones usually worn around diplomats & important government officials). Rela doesn't mind wearing all 3 layers as long as she isn't about to duel or it's incredibly hot outside.
Jen typically spends most of her time in Mystic Falls, which is in Virginia. In the winter, it gets close to snowing, while it steadily increases to around 90 F (32 C) in the summer. Because of this, it's easy for Jen to stick to her light sweaters, simple dresses & athleisure. She adds layers as it makes sense, though since she's a nymph, it's hard for her to feel cold or hot (unless she's burned).
Shayera doesn't like layers. She'll do something if she's extremely cold, as in going on a mission to the Artic, but otherwise? She's used to being up at high altitudes already & she doesn't like to burden her wings withe heavy slothes.
Lan isn't used to wearing layers in her normal verse, but she is in her Regency verse. She dislikes how long it's always taken her to get ready, since she's clumsy, she sometimes forgets the accessories, & the whole getup feels uncomfortable to her.
Prompt 24 - "unremarkable"
Rose was always a pretty modest kid. She still only thinks she's interesting when people talk about what her father done, or when she needs to feel confident enough to convince sometone to do something.
Rela feels blessed to be able to have an active relationship with the Force, but she does not see herself as special in the way that she sees others (like Anakin, for example, who is the most powerful Jedi she's ever known). This could be because she can't sense her own midichlorians, or because she was taught to not be arrogant.
Jen knows she's knowledgeable when it comes to magic & biology. She offers her help to others in those subjects, but she doesn't brag about it.
Shayera doesn't think human aircraft is that reliable or interesting, even though she's ridden in First Class (thanks to Bruce Wayne). When she finds out how other people experience planes, she's both disgusted & unamazed. Her people's aircrafts are so much...different than ours. They're easier to fly, in her opinion.
Lan never stood out much in school or on the street, but she has big dreams (sort of).
Prompt 25 - "deep breaths"
Zatanna has taught Rose a form of meditation that allows for astral projection of one's soul; this means that Rose's soul can leave her body to explore different dimensions while her physical body stays wherever she began mediating.
Rela uses meditation to stay calm, help her call on the Force for help, & to locate other living beings.
Jen's species can suffocate & die, but they would do so much slower than an average human would, partly because they naturally seek & manipulate the 4 elements.
Shayera has claustrophobia & a lesser fear of drowning.
Lan had to relearn how to breathe when she began her military training, to accommodate for all the physical strain.
Prompt 26 - "interrupted"
Rose has interrupted other people's spells by cutting their wards & by manually preventing others from speaking.
Rela tries her best to let other people speak, so that all opinions can be heard before a decision is made. But sometimes she hates that part of herself.
One of the only times Jen's ever gotten angry while teaching was when a student interrupted her lecture by loudly speaking to his friend.
If you interrupt Shayera's sparring match or conversation, she expects you to have a good reason for doing so--otherwise, you'll get That Look.
Lan often finds her parents interrupting her when she has ideas for new activities & dress patterns.
Prompt 27 - "curled up"
Rose can curl up anywhere for a power nap. It's a gift honed through years of adventuring.
Similarly, Rela can tell her body to sleep, then tell it to wake up later on (sometimes the Force wakes her if there's a problem).
Jen loves curling up on her couch to watch old mysteries when she's feeling unproductive.
If Shayera's just curled up somewhere, she's either sick, sad, or in bed with someone.
Lan tried curling her hair once. It didn't turn out very well.

Prompt 21 - "in the dark"
Rose doesn't much like being in the dark, because that's where a lot of spooky shit tends to be, but she has no problem sticking in the shadows to sneak up on someone. Otherwise, she'll use a spell to light her way.
Like Rose, Rela often uses the shadows to sneak up to her enemies. She also uses her lightsabers to light her way, but sometimes asking the Force to guide her to the nearest exit is enough.
Jen can't see in the dark like her other supernatural friends can, so she uses her superhuman senses to help her out, usually by focusing on the sounds people make when they breathe or move.
Shayera's mace, which is made of Nth Metal, can light up for her on command, as long as she's touching it.
Lan doesn't have a problem with the dark as far as being afraid of it goes, but she prefers the daytime.

vi. I Feel it Coming, The Princess and the Pogue Series
You’ve been scared of love and what it did to you. You don't have to run, I know what you've been through.
Series Masterlist
Pairing: JJ Maybank x fem!reader
Warnings: 18+ ONLY, mentions of a hurricane, passionate sex, mentions of birth control, first time, passionate sex, fingering, mentions of weed, swearing
Summary: Y/N shows up to JJ’s during the hurricane.
Words: 3095 (I’m sorry!!!)
A week had gone by since the kegger and morning-after conversation between JJ and y/n, neither wanting to mention the situation and their almost-kiss on the couch. It wasn’t awkward though, they made normal conversation and got together with the Pogues as if nothing had happened. Though, the reminder of that night continued to linger on both of their minds.
On Thursday afternoon, the Principal Interrupted their last class of the day with a broadcast over the loudspeaker. He announced that Kildare County High School would be closed the following day in preparation of Hurricane Nora, which would be making landfall later that evening. Of course, everyone in the Outer Banks was prepared; it wasn’t their first hurricane.
Y/N, however, was quite nervous. She had never been through a hurricane, had barely been through any major storms while living in Montana. As the bell rang to dismiss Kildare County students for the day, y/n packed up her bag and headed out towards John B’s van.
Ever since she had joined the Pogues, John B had offered her a ride home from school. Y/N had protested at first, but given how close she lived to the school, she didn’t have any reason not to. Most of the time she didn’t even head straight home; they frequently went fishing, to the beach, to John B’s Château, and to The Wreck.
JJ was waiting against the opening of the van, hands in the pockets of his cargo shorts and a smile playing on his lips as y/n approached. “Ready to ride out the storm, Princess?” He teased, ushering her into the backseat of the van before hopping in after her.
Y/N chewed nervously on her bottom lip, picking at her cuticles absentmindedly. “I’ll be fine.”
Kiara leaned back against the seat beside her, outstretching her arm comfortingly around y/n’s shoulders. “Didn’t you say that Bailey was out of town? You’re more than welcome to stay at our place tonight and throughout the storm.”
She forgot she had mentioned to the Pogues that her sister was out of town for the week; she was attending a Nursing Conference in Virginia with a few of her colleagues. Y/N usually hated being home alone, but she had spent most of her evenings with the Pogues, being dropped off late at night and heading straight to sleep. Their home was prepped and ready for the storm, and she honestly wasn’t trying to let her nerves get the best of her.
“You’re welcome to stay at Sarah’s Aunt and Uncle’s place with Sarah and I. Or you can stay at the Château with JJ.” John B added, winking over at JJ who gave him a middle-fingered salute in return.
“Again, I’ll be fine. Thank you all for the offers though.” Y/N watched as John B turned the keys in the ignition, descending the van down the road towards her home. “I’ll probably just have a self-care night.”
“Oh yeah, what does that entail?” Pope asked, turning his head towards her.
“Well, when I have a self-care night, I usually put on a face mask, take a nice relaxing bubble bath, and then follow it up with an at-home concert with all of my favorite music, starring yours truly.” The gang all laughed, and Sarah shifted in the passenger seat, turning to look back at y/n.
“I love that, I usually paint my nails and watch some shitty reality shows.” Sarah commented and Kiara nodded her head in agreement. “I like to journal and then pig out on snacks while watching a mind-blowing documentary.”
“I may need to add a little bit of both of your routines tonight. I’ll be fine, though. I promise.” Y/N watched as John B pulled into her driveway, waiting until JJ opened the van door and hopped out, holding his hand out for y/n to grab onto as she exited.
“Well, if you need me, you’ve got my number. I’ll probably just be getting high in the Château.” JJ shrugged his shoulders at her, watching as she walked up the path towards her front porch.
“I’m sure you’ll have fun with that.” She replied, rolling her eyes at him before waving at the rest of the Pogues still in the van.
“I mean it, princess. I’m just a text away.” JJ smiled at her, giving her a brief salute before jumping back into the van and shutting the door.
Y/N sighed, opening the door to her house and stepping in, locking the door behind her. She tossed her backpack on the couch and kicked off her shoes, heading upstairs to her bathroom and starting the bath.
She’d be fine, it wasn’t even raining yet. There was nothing to worry about. Though as much as she’d hate to admit it, she slightly wished she was headed to the Château, wondering if she and JJ would actually talk about the other day if they were alone.
Four hours later and y/n was eating her words. The first hour at home had gone smooth; she had on a face mask while she lounged in a bubble bath, drinking one of Bailey’s beers from the fridge and watching the latest episode of All American.
The second hour was when the rain started, a drizzle quickly increasing by the third hour. By the fourth hour, the lights had flickered at least twice, and the wind had picked up momentum, the tree branch outside her window scraping against the screen.
She tried to remain calm, but it was much harder than she had anticipated. The saving grace of her anxious thoughts was the chime of a new message on her phone.
JJ: Is the Princess still holding up alright?
Y/N: I was until the wind picked up. And the lights flickered twice.
JJ: The offer still stands. I can ask John B to come to get you before it gets worse.
Y/N: I’ll be fine, JJ.
Another hour passed, y/n’s anxiety heightening with every crack of thunder and every scrape of the branch against her window. She tried to calm herself down with music, to meditate, to do anything, but the last straw was when the lights flickered off and did not return on. The house was eerily silent without power, the sounds of the storm that much louder in her ears.
She glanced at her phone, attempting to call JJ for that ride after all but she had no signal, the power going out must’ve included the cellphone towers.
Y/N took one look outside her window, barely able to see anything with how dark it was and leaped off her bed. “Fuck it.” If she stayed in the house it would be much worse than trying to make it over to The Château. If she hurried, she’d probably make it there before the storm got any worse. She quickly pulled her hair up into a high ponytail, slipping on a pair of black denim shorts and a ribbed yellow tank top. Y/N slipped on her running shoes, a pair she had used often during her track days, running down the stairs with her phone light shining to lead the way.
She went into the kitchen, opening the drawers until she found a thick black flashlight, leaving her phone on the counter. Not like she could use it with the towers down anyhow. Y/N carefully opened the front door, shielded from the rain under the roof of the porch as she locked the door and snuck the key under the potted plant for safekeeping.
Turning around, she switched the flashlight on and peered into the storm, the rain pounding down loudly on the street. “Here goes nothing.” She mumbled to herself before sprinting off the porch and down the pathway to the sidewalk, careful not to slip on the wet pavement. Y/N knew the path to The Château by heart after the sheer number of times John B had picked her up from her place before heading there. It usually took them fifteen minutes in the van, and she pleaded with the sky that it wouldn’t take that long.
She was already soaked down to her underwear by the first mile of her run, her breathing heavy but her stamina still high as she powered through. She only had five miles to go, she was used to long runs like that, but not in that type of weather.
Another rumble of thunder cracked against the sky, causing her to pick up her pace, especially with the first strike of lightning in the distance. What if JJ wasn’t even at The Château? What if he left after his offer and went to stay with John B and Sarah? There was no way she could make it that far on foot.
Her legs were burning as she neared the fourth of six miles, cursing herself for being stupid enough to even attempt this during a hurricane. Maybe it was her newfound fearlessness she had from hanging out with the Pogues that fueled her, or maybe she was bat shit crazy.
By the fifth mile, she had slipped twice on the road, her left knee scraped and her right arm as well. The water washed any dirt off as she picked herself up and kept running, her lungs burning in her chest. Her legs started to give out as she saw the familiar stop sign at the end of John B’s road, her body shivering from the cold, wet clothes that hung to her body.
Y/N slowed her pace to a walk as she neared the screened-in porch, walking inside it, finally shielded from the storm, and banging loudly on the front door of the Château.
JJ was startled from the noise against the door, the lights of y/n’s flashlight shining in the window, causing him to hold his hand up to block the rays. He slowly walked towards the door, grabbing an empty beer bottle off the coffee table, ready to use it as a weapon if he needed it for the intruder.
He crept closer to the door, his eyes blinking into the darkness until the flashlight flashed against y/n’s face, outlining her features under her wet locks.
“What the fuck?” JJ cried out, fumbling with the lock in the dark before opening the door and ushering y/n inside. “What the fuck are you doing? Did you fucking walk here during a hurricane?” He flipped on the emergency battery-powered lantern on the coffee table, illuminating the room as he stared at her soaking wet body.
“I t-tried to c-call.” Her teeth chattered as she talked, JJ pulling the throw blanket off the couch and wrapping it around her body.
“Dammit, y/n, you’re gonna get sick from the cold! And you could’ve been struck by lightning, or your body could’ve given out and…” JJ stopped when she put a wet hand on his cheek, her body shivering beneath the throw blanket.
I-I’m a t-track s-star…s-six miles is n-nothing.” She joked, attempting a smile through her chattering teeth. JJ motioned for her to follow him, grabbing the lantern off the table and carrying it to his bedroom, setting it down on his dresser.
“Let me get you something to change into,” JJ announced, rummaging through his drawers to find some clean clothes for her to wear. He turned around and set the clothes on the bed, gesturing towards them.
Y/N paused, dropping the now damp blanket to the floor, watching JJ turn around to give her privacy. One by one she pulled a soaked article of clothing off until she stood naked, her skin drying as her body was freed from the wet fabric.
Her shivering stopped, her heart racing as she looked at JJ’s taut muscles through his cutoff shirt in the light of the lantern.
“Are you dressed?” JJ questioned, his back still turned.
“No…” She muttered, her voice a few octaves above a whisper.
“Is it the clothes? I can get you something else to put on.” JJ started for the dresser, y/n’s hand moving out to grab his wrist, stopping him in his tracks.
“JJ look at me.” She demanded, tugging his wrist towards her before he finally turned, his eyes on the floor before they slowly followed the curves of her body, lingering on her bare chest before meeting her gaze.
“Y/N…” He whispered, his blue hues moving from her eyes to her lips and back, taking a step closer to her. She still had her grip on his wrist, her fingers moving to trail up his arm, causing him to shiver in response.
“I ran here in a fucking hurricane so that I wasn’t alone, so that I could be here…with you…” She stepped closer, their faces inches away from each other, JJ’s own face tilted down to close the gap. He can feel her breath hot against his face as he hesitates before bringing a hand up to cup her cheek, leaning down and pressing his lips against hers.
Y/N kisses back, her hand moving up to grip at the hair at the nape of his neck, attempting to pull him closer. Their lips danced along each other’s, JJ’s tongue darting out and instructing her to part her lips. She let his tongue explore her mouth, her body leaning forward to press against his chest.
He broke away from her mouth, trailing damp kisses down her jaw and along her neck, leading their bodies back until they both tumbled back against the bed, a breathy laugh leaving her lips. He broke away from the kisses against her collarbone to look at her naked form in the light of the lantern. His fingers trailed from her cheek down to her chest, rubbing her nipple between his fingers, eliciting a breathy moan from her lips.
“Such a beautiful Princess.” He whispered, causing y/n to roll her eyes.
“Shut the fuck up and take your clothes off.” He couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped his lips, stumbling to his feet and pulling the cutoff shirt from his frame, stepping out of his shorts and his boxer briefs. His cock sprang free against his chest, y/n’s thighs clenching together as she admired his size.
“JJ…” She pleaded, her eyes raking over his toned chest and then back to his blue irises.
He walked back over to the bed, moving so that his body was hovering over her own, their eyes locking once again.
“What do you need?” He questioned, a devilish smile spreading across his face.
“You.” She moaned, bucking her hips up towards him, her hands pulling his face down to hers. “I just want you.” Their lips slotted together again, more passionate than before, JJ’s knees moving to part her thighs and settle himself between them for support.
Once he was stable, he moved to kiss down her body, starting with her collarbone before trailing his lips between her breasts, causing y/n to moan. His cock rubbed against her folds, due to how tall he in comparison to her, humming against her skin with delight. JJ’s tongue flicked against her nipple, his free hand snaking between their bodies, his fingers teasing against her slit before dipping his index and middle finger into her wet heat.
“Shit.” She whined, JJ smirking against her breast as he continued to suckle on it, his fingers pumping in and out of her tight cunt. Y/N’s fingers threaded into his hair, tugging on his blonde locks and arching her back against his mouth.
His fingers continued to work in and out of her core, picking up the pace until y/n tugged his hair hard enough to make him look at her.
“Quit fucking teasing me JJ, I need you, now.” She purred, his gaze moving up to meet hers again. He shifted so her legs were further apart, settling his cock at her entrance, his arm hovering above her head for support.
“Shouldn’t I grab a condom?” He questioned, thinking of where in the house there might be some hiding. He knew John B definitely had some, he’d just need to rummage through his drawers to find them.
“I’ve been on the pill since I was fourteen, it’s fine. Please just…” She grabbed his face with her hands, staring into his eyes. “Please fuck me, JJ.”
He lined the tip of his cock up and pushed into her cunt, both moaning simultaneously. He seated himself fully inside of her, letting her adjust to the length before he pulled almost completely out. His eyes stayed locked on hers, slamming his cock back in and moving at a steady rhythm in and out of her.
She rested her forehead against his, mewling at each thrust, her nails digging into his back as he moved. They couldn’t even hear the storm anymore, the only sounds being their breathing, moans, and the occasional slapping of skin.
JJ started to feel the familiar pooling in his stomach, his hips slapping faster. “Fuck, y/n. I’m not gonna last much longer, 'm sorry.”
Y/N pressed her lips to his feverishly, whispering against them. “Fucking cum, JJ.” JJ thrusted in and out of her cunt a few more times before steadying himself deep inside her as he came. She felt his cum coating her walls, JJ waiting until his cock wasn’t as sensitive before pulling out, moving to lay on his back beside her.
“Did you cum?” He questioned, tilting his head to look over at her.
“No, but it’s okay. I’ve never, well…” She huffed, covering her face. “Shit don’t make fun of me but that was my first time. I mean, I’ve given head before and I’ve had guys go down on me but I’ve never…y’know.”
JJ smiled big, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her body closer to his. “So, I deflowered the Princess?” He let out a groan as she smacked his bare chest, furrowing his brows. “What the fuck?”
“It’s not funny, JJ. I really fucking like you, okay? And I know that scares you, but I don’t care. You deserve the world, and you make me feel safe and…” Y/N is cut off when JJ presses a kiss to her lips, his thumb rubbing softly on her cheek.
“I like you too. But don’t tell anyone I got mushy and shit with you.” He whispered, pulling her closer until her head rested on his chest, his arms wrapping around her. The sound of the storm outside didn’t scare her anymore, her eyes fluttering closed and her breathing relaxed.
“And don’t you fucking dare run through a damn hurricane again.”

Yoga and Meditation Near Me
Yoga and meditation near me are two complementary practices that can help you achieve peace of mind, physical well-being, and emotional stability. While yoga focuses on postures, breath work and movement, meditation is a still, seated practice that uses techniques like mindfulness or visualization.
Located in the heart of NYC, Heights Meditation & Yoga is a non-profit community organization serving Washington Heights and Inwood. The studio offers drop-in classes as well as a variety of workshops and retreats.
Dharma Yoga Center
Established in 1975, Dharma Yoga Center is one of New York City’s first and most influential yoga centers. Its founder, Sri Dharma Mittra, is known for his grace and humor, and for a yoga practice that is both physical and meditative. He also taught that the purpose of yoga is to reach self-realization (gaining absolute knowledge of the True Self).
Whether you want to increase your flexibility, strengthen your core, reduce stress, or improve your sleep, Dharma yoga and meditation offers many classes to meet your needs. Some classes are more physically challenging, while others are more meditative.
The front desk staff at DYC is friendly and welcoming. Joann, the heartbeat of DYC, is an unwavering administrator who ensures that each student feels valued and supported. She has a smile on her face all the time and is always willing to help. She is a true gem!
Yoga Farm
Yoga on the farm, or “yoga in nature” as some like to call it, has become a worldwide phenomenon. It offers the opportunity to connect to nature and the body in a safe and supportive environment. It promotes health and wellness for all and is accessible to people of any age, ability, or experience.
New York-based instructor Virginia Bocchicchio teaches yoga for all abilities at Clover Brooke Farm in Ithaca, where yogis can stretch and breathe among the Nigerian dwarf goats who serve as the class’s live audience. Beginner-friendly flows and restorative poses cultivate strength and stability. Classes are held in a restored barn when the weather permits and in a converted, heated hayloft if not.
Bow to the azure waters of mythical Ithaca, where Odysseus returned after his 10year Odyssey, on this retreat in an island village ringed by green hills and tranquil bays. The week-long retreat at the peaceful yogic sanctuary Itha108 includes twice daily movement, breath and relaxation.
Meditation Center
In an age of information overload and constant distraction, meditation is a practice that can help people focus their attention and develop a sense of calm. It can also improve mental health, improve sleep quality and reduce stress levels. In fact, regular meditation may increase brain size and gray matter, boost intelligence and creativity, and lower blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol and the buildup of plaque in coronary arteries.
New York City has several meditation centers that offer a variety of classes. One of these is Awarehouse NYC, which provides a serene space for individuals to practice mindfulness and meditation. The studio offers a range of meditation techniques and styles to suit the needs and preferences of its clients.
Mindfulness meditation is rooted in Buddhist traditions and encourages singlepointed concentration. Transcendental meditation, on the other hand, involves repeating a mantra to transcend ordinary thought and enter a state of deep awareness. Yoga nidra is another popular form of meditation that incorporates breathing exercises and visualization to induce deep relaxation.
Yoga Retreat
Whether you’re an experienced yoga meditation practitioner or a beginner, there are retreats that fit your specific needs. These retreats usually provide a variety of activities that promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. You can also participate in outdoor excursions and eat a healthy diet. These experiences can help you break out of the pattern of a hectic, urban lifestyle and find true rejuvenation.
Most retreats take place at vacation resorts or specialist spa facilities. They may offer a combination of daily yoga sessions with luxury experiences like a floating sauna and massages. The tranquil environment of a retreat is the perfect way to unplug from the stresses of life and focus on mindfulness and self-reflection.
Often, retreats are held in beautiful natural surroundings like mountains or forests where the sounds of honking cars and traffic fade away. The chirping of birds and the smell of fresh air help to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.
