A young guy once asked me, “How long do I pray for a situation to change and are there times I don’t need to pray?” Well, there’re times and certain situations that don’t require you to pray for a protracted period. Some other times and situations require importunity, that is, heartfelt continuity in prayer. Both are very important, depending on what you’re dealing with. But the bottom line is that as a Christian, prayer must be a lifestyle. The reason for prayer isn’t to convince God that you’re truly serious about your objective for praying. Rather, it’s about spending time in fellowship with Him and what that does in your spirit. Give your best times and most productive moments to prayer. Try not to be in a hurry during your prayer times, because sometimes, even when you think you’re done praying, the Holy Spirit might still want you to continue. He may bring words to you with which to pray. Remember, He has a ministry in our lives; He’s the One who teaches us how to pray. When we pray, we don’t always know everything we’re supposed to say about certain situations. But God, through the Holy Spirit, teaches us what to say and how to pray correctly and effectively. That’s why giving time and attention to prayer in the Spirit is important. Give attention to praying in tongues; don’t be distracted. When it’s time to pray, have the discipline to keep everything else aside. The more other things try to distract you, the more you should focus and keep praying. Let your spirit receive that discipline; then, you’ll achieve the primary purpose of prayer, which is the conditioning of your spirit and mind until God’s thoughts become your thoughts, and His words become your words. The specific, creative word on your lips that the Spirit brings to you at such moments of prayer produces the result. PRAY Dear Father, thank you for the privilege of fellowship with you through the Spirit in prayer. Thank you for the privilege to side with you and enforce your will on the earth and exercise dominion over circumstances, satan and his cohorts of darkness, in Jesus’ Name. Rattled by fear, the disciples cried out to the Master who was peacefully asleep at the rear of the boat. He wasn’t one to be flustered by circumstances. When He woke up, He didn’t say, “This storm is quite tumultuous and a serious threat to our lives! I need to talk to the Father.” No! His amazing and inspiring response to the storm was, “Peace, be still!” Hallelujah! Some Christians find themselves in similar situations and respond in fear. They start speaking in tongues out of panic; no. Speak in tongues, but never out of fear. Praying out of frenzy negates your faith; it’s ineffective. It’s not wrong to immediately start speaking in tongues when you’re in certain situations, but you must know why you’re speaking in tongues at such times. It should be to stir your spirit to pick the right words to deal with the situation. While speaking with tongues, the Holy Spirit will also give you utterance in spiritual incantations which are coded words for the circumstances. Hallelujah! Refuse to fear, and remember who you are; then speak as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit in you is a fountain of life. That’s why there's a gusher, an outflow of life and blessings as you speak. Always speak blessings; words that cancel Satan’s plans. Even now, make a decree concerning your nation, your city, your life or about anything, and it shall be established unto you (Job 22:28, Ecclesiastes 8:4). Remember, it’s by the blessing of the upright that the city is exalted (Proverbs 11:11). Speaking blessings over anyone, anything, any city or nation can be done by giving thanks. IT'S ABOUT WORDS A major reason some Christians have never really enjoyed the spiritual splendour and glory of Christianity is that they’ve never truly understood the importance of words. Even though they’ve been born again for long, they’ve struggled for the most part. Some eventually give up after many years of struggling to live the Christian life because they don’t understand the foundational principles of the Christian life. It’s about words! We function in the realities of the new creation through words. This is the spiritual principle that makes salvation possible in the first place: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). Our salvation is only activated when we vocalize our faith in the Lordship of Jesus. Love Is More Than Just A Feeling. Oh Valentine’s Day! It’s a great time to remind all who are in relationships or married that love is more than just a feeling. The world has depicted love solely, as a feeling: A rush of adrenaline hormones, breathlessness, excitement, sleepless nights and sexual arousal. Flowers, chocolates, cards, romantic messages, candle lit diners and wonderful text messages have taken center stage and seized the real narrative about love. All these may have their place under the right conditions and context but they are a minor component of love. This distorted view of love has led to disappointment, strife, chaos and sometimes divorce. Love is more of of an act of your will than an act of your emotions. When God demonstrated his love towards us, it was not with a card, music, chocolates or flowers. It was with his blood; sacrifice. The greatest expression of love is to sacrifice for the one you claim you love. When Jesus died on the cross it was a summary of the great love that he has for us, and It was not pleasurable. *(John 3:16)* _“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son”_ Jesus used the force of will power to go through the pain of crucifixion. This was his prayer *(Luke 22:42)* _“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”_ *Do you claim to be in love?* Remember real love is sacrificial and painful. It takes sacrifice to be a faithful partner, not chocolates. Love is when your emotions do not determine what you do but the will of God.
