end of the day — law student kim seungmin x med student yn. established relationship. comfort.
you come home after a long, tiring shift to your bf (0.8k words)
warning. mentioned minor character death. hospital terms.
Tumblr media
It’s late when you get back to your apartment from the hospital. The bustle of the city had long died down, and the only sound you could hear was from the gentle pitter patter of the rain’s leftovers, the train from a distance, and the horrifying sob of a mother who had just lost her daughter echoing in your ears from just a few hours ago.
The bleeding was too severe in her brain, and even after 36 hours, there were still no brainstem reflexes. She was pronounced brain dead after some time. You can still remember the way it hurt you—the look on her mother’s face, slowly losing her composure. That break in her features. Loss will never be easy.
Sighing, you tuck away the pain as you kick off the white shoes you’re wearing from your numb feet. You never got used to the night shift duties, and you suppose you never will. For now, you just wanted to hop into the shower, eat something, and get some sleep. You’re afraid that if you think about it more, you’d start crying.
“Hey, doc.” Your attention shifts to the voice from your living room. “How was your shift?”
Seungmin has a bad habit of hugging you even when you've just come from the hospital. And you suppose the right thing to do would be to push him away, the way you usually do, scold him for threatening himself with nosocomial infection, but after the 36 hours you had, you find you can’t bring yourself to do it.
It’s how Seungmin knows to tighten his grip around you. Almost like he knows.
(He does. He has you and your entire heart memorized.)
“Never gets easier.” You sigh, face planted on his firm chest. He’s wearing a white shirt that’s a little big for even him, and it’s a little lopsided that it reveals a bit of his collarbones. His messy hair is indicative of having studied before he heard you unlock the door. “I wish there was more that I could do.”
“You’re studying and working so hard, and that’s enough right now.” He whispers, planting a gentle kiss on your forehead. “Have you eaten?”
You shake your head. You don’t remember the last time you were able to get a proper meal during your shift.
“You didn’t eat yet?”
Seungmin would’ve scolded you had you not been so exhausted. He had always been the number one advocate of your health, always reminding you to eat on time, drink the required amount of water a day, but he knew his scolding was the last thing that you needed right now, only quietly asking for a bit of his comfort.
“Let’s eat, okay?” He asks you, soothing your hair down and carefully leading the pair of you to the kitchen. “I cooked a lot tonight cause I knew you were coming home.”
“Am I disturbing you? You must’ve been studying.”
“Hm? No, no. I was taking a break anyway.” Seungmin reassures.
“How was your recitation about that case study?” You suddenly ask, just as he sits you down on the table.
He pops your food in the microwave, reheating it for you, and he laughs quietly to himself. How kind of you to remember even when you’d been busy. It had been something Seungmin studied very hard for, something he was anxious about a few days prior.
“It was good.” He smiles, patiently waiting for the microwave to beep. When it does, he sets the food in front of you with a glass of water before taking a seat next to you. “Eat well, okay?”
“Okay. Thank you, Minnie.”
“You must be so tired.” Seungmin frowns, brushing a few strands of your hair away from your face and tucking it neatly behind your ear.
You had shaken your head when he called you out for your exhaustion, but your eyes begged to differ, threatening to close every once in a while.
It’s quiet the rest of the time that you eat, which is only a good few minutes. Your stomach must’ve been craving for food all this time. Seungmin takes note of preparing you a few meals to bring to your next shift. He’d done it a few times, but has had to take a momentary pause due to the business of his schedule.
“Are you gonna go to bed too?” You sound guilty when you ask him, and it’s adorable the way you look at him with doe eyes. Almost hopeful, but desperately trying not to show it. It’s been a while since both of your sleeping schedules have aligned.
“You go shower first while I clean up okay?”
“No. You already cooked, so I can wash the dishes. It’s the unspoken rul—“
A kiss is planted on your lips. Very effective at shutting you up.
“Just wash up, and I’ll handle the rest, hm?”
“Okay, fine.” You start to walk away before you make an abrupt halt. “Does that mean we’re going to bed together?”
Seungmin laughs. “I won’t be long.”

What Was I Made For
Synopsis: College is hard, but it's even worse when you're a pre-med student and it's even, even worse when you don't want to go into medicine. Fortunately, the ghost that haunts your apartment is more kind, more annoying, and more helpful than you ever thought possible. College AU, ghost AU.
Warning: alcohol, bad parental relationship, mentions of death
Word Count: 6.2k
Pairing: f!reader x ghost!Kim Seungmin
A/N: Good luck with exams and classes!
Tumblr media
“Honey, I’m home,” you call. The handles of the reusable grocery bag you picked up from a club booth at the beginning of the semester are already starting to fall apart, so you’re forced to flip on the light switch with your shoulder blades. You glare at Seungmin, who is lounging on the couch, staring at the ceiling. “Could you at least pretend to help?”
“What’s the point? I can’t even eat whatever you bought.”
You sigh and set down your haul onto the tiny kitchen island that doubles as a dining table. When you make a big production of taking out your groceries, Seungmin still doesn’t look up. Despite his inability to eat food, he usually shows some interest, if only to judge your snack choices.
On the counter, bananas in a plastic produce bag to prevent fruit flies, and a new roll of paper towels. On the top shelf of the fridge, a tub of Greek yogurt that Seungmin makes fun of you for liking. Assorted salad mixes in the crisper. A whole rotisserie chicken and a carton of eggs on the middle shelf. In the cabinet goes a party-sized bag of barbeque chips, a pack of chocolate chip cookies you don’t want to discuss how much you paid for, and a box of protein bars.
You take the last item out of the bag and hide it behind your back. You hover over Seungmin. “Guess what I got?”
“A bag of potatoes that will grow spuds because you can’t finish them all.”
“That was one time! Try again.”
He guesses wrong again and again, so after the fifth attempt, you hold your prize in front of his eyes. “A better vegetable peeler, just like you told me to. Are you proud of me?”
For a moment, his sullen eyes brighten at the memory of you struggling with your old peeler. He watched with great amusement as the flimsy blade repeatedly got caught on carrot skin and you grew more infuriated with each catch. In the end, you gave up and ate the skin, fuming with each bite of your meal. Seungmin laughed so hard, you thought he would lose control of his physical form and slip through the floor.
He sighs, all of the joy escaping through his lips. “Yeah, sure. Sorry, it’s just one of those days.”
“We all have them. Hey, why don’t we do something tonight? I’m done studying, so we can watch a movie or play Mario Kart or something.” You plaster a smile on your face. “Fun, right?”
“You’re never gonna get into med school if this is how you work.”
Despite his admonishments, he sits up and swings his legs off the couch to make room for you. He didn’t choose an activity so Mario Kart it is. You leave your peeler on the coffee table and grab your joycons. When you flop beside him, tossing the blue one in his lap, he grumbles as he’s jostled around.
“I don’t even wanna go to med school,” you remind him. He already knows since it’s all you complain about these days as the MCAT draws closer, but that’s never stopped you from repeating yourself.
“Wow, what a problem. I’d die to go to med school.”
Without thinking, you snort. “Too late for that.”
Seungmin has been dead for nearly two years. The old apartment complex burned down in an electrical fire, and due to the housing demand in the area, the university quickly built a new one in its place. Sure, you suspected it was probably haunted, but rent was on the cheaper side, especially for a single room, so you moved in and learned about your unofficial roommate during your first night. You thought you were going to faint when you saw a stranger leaning over your stack of practice books, and you thought you were going to be killed when he simply said, “I was also pre-med.”
“Sorry,” you meekly say. Why is the Mario Kart music so cheerful? It would be worse if it was sad, but the upbeat tune just makes your mistake more poignant. “I shouldn’t have—”
“Well, you’re not wrong,” he interjects. “Doesn’t matter. You better not pick Birdo this time.”
While you normally would have fought him six ways from Sunday for Birdo, you choose Yoshi instead and pick his favorite circuit to start off the night. He makes no comment about your sudden generosity, but you both know the reason. There’s no such thing as pity in this household, but apologies are aplenty.
Tumblr media
When you come back from your anatomy lab the following day, whatever guilt you felt is gone when Seungmin holds up your pack of cookies with a disapproving look. You must have forgotten to put it back in the cabinet before you left. Either that or Seungmin rummaged around your belongings when the roommate contract stated that he could not and would not.
“You seriously paid for these?” he says.
“They’re good! And artisan,” you huff as you snatch the package from his hands. You hope you didn’t crush any cookies in the process. “I support small businesses.”
“They haven’t been a small business or artisan in, like, twenty years. How did the cat dissection go?”
You reach for an overpriced cookie and snap off a piece with more force than necessary. “Fine. A little gross, but I guess I’m used to that by now. You wanna see the pictures I took?”
He tries to feign nonchalance, but his body seems more substantial, less ghost-like as you scroll through your camera roll. Even though he oohs and aahs at the most inappropriate images—you really don’t think the digestive structures of a cat deserve that much admiration—you can’t help but smile. He hasn’t looked or sounded this lively in weeks. You thought it might have been your snark rubbing off of him, but he always has a biting remark at the ready, remedied only with his good-natured demeanor. Of course, that demeanor has been slowly crumbling, so to see him be his usual self again feels good.
Satisfied, he lets you take your phone back. “Sometimes I miss lab. I hated doing the lab reports though; have fun with that.”
And just like that, your happiness goes out. “That’s tomorrow’s problem. I should study before work. You wanna help me out? I hate physics.”
Look, if your roommate were a pre-med student, had unlimited time, and no other obligations, you would force them to help you study, too. Plus, Seungmin loves MCAT practice, so it’s a win-win.
To your surprise, he doesn’t jump at the opportunity like he typically does. Under normal circumstances, he would be scouring the living room for where he last left his flashcards. Instead, he says, “Why don’t you take a break?”
“A break? You, of all people, suggest that I take a break when you were just telling me about my bad study habits? Who are you, and what have you done with Seungmin?”
He rolls his eyes. “I didn’t realize you wanted to do physics that badly.”
“I don’t. This is weird from you though.” However, after a moment of contemplation: “Whatever. Pick a show to watch. I’m gonna draw.”
He selects House because he’s still Seungmin after all. This is the show that inspired him to go into medicine, and is, as he’s mentioned many times before, “the greatest show on the planet.” It’s entertaining, you admit, and you do like seeing all of the obscure medical cases Dr. Gregory House solves, but it’s a grim reminder of your parents’ dreams for you. With the dialogue of the characters echoing in your head, you sketch a frog sitting on top of a stack of pancakes. You initially bought your tablet for note taking, but it really is much better as a tool for art.
“It’s always animals, plants, or dessert now,” Seungmin remarks, craning his head to get a better view while you continually pull your screen away. “What happened to your big fantasy pieces?”
“Rule one: no looking until I say so. Rule two: no questions unless I say so. Remember?”
He ignores you. “You used to do a lot of those things when you first moved in. With the crazy landscapes, guys with abs in crop tops, cat-ear ladies with fancy dresses, villains who you definitely wanted to—”
“I get it!” Your face is blazing. He makes your artistic—purely artistic—interests sound so much worse than they are. “I’ve just been busy with life, so I don’t have time to work on them anymore. Anyway, animals, plants, and desserts are cute.” In a smaller voice, you add, “And they make me happy.”
Just like pictures of a flayed cat makes him happy.
He goes quiet and lets Dr. House fill the air. While he pretends to be engrossed in the show, you turn back to your sketch to fix your frog’s eyes to be less downcast. No sad frogs allowed.
Tumblr media
You don’t remember exactly when the dread began, but you do distinctly remember glancing over the syllabus for your genetics course and wanting to collapse. Each item was manageable by itself, but the totality of the class, of your future classes, of your future hurtled at you at full force. For so long, you convinced yourself you could do it. You would complain the whole time, but at the end, you would be addressed as ‘Doctor’ and you would be happy. Your parents would be happy, so you would be happy and realize that it was all worth it.
Even if you cried every night, it would be worth it.
You took a deep breath, looked at the list of assigned textbooks, and pulled out your credit card. You went through more dire situations than this stupid course. This would be easy enough.
Tumblr media
Two weeks after the art fiasco, you finally test out your new vegetable peeler on potatoes. Your friend gave you five for free since she was having trouble finishing the large amount she bought. While you stand over the sink, humming a song your neighbor has been practicing for the past week, Seungmin is hunched over the coffee table, doing something secretive with flashcards. He’s been working on a new set of them since the art fiasco, which makes no sense since you have a perfect set of a thousand that you bought online. But no, he has been toiling day and night to create handmade ones. You don’t even want to know where he got the supplies.
Well, you already know where and how, but if your neighbors come knocking, you know nothing.
In fear that you’ll “ruin the surprise,” you have been forbidden from even stepping foot onto the living room carpet. Really, there’s no point because you can get a glimpse if you lean across the island. Nevertheless, you keep your eyes on the growing pile of potato skins. You have five potatoes worth of fries to make.
Ten minutes later, when you have moved onto slicing, Seungmin declares that he’s done. He places the baking sheet you left on the island onto a chair and triumphantly sets down his masterpiece.
When you pick up the topmost one, you can’t help but smile. Alongside the words “absolute threshold” is a cartoon rabbit with alert ears. Tiny music notes are dotted on the top edge of the card.
“To make your studies less stressful,” he says.
You don’t have the heart to tell him that you’re always some degree of stressed but nevertheless thank him. The flashcards are adorable, even if Seungmin’s drawing skills aren’t the best. “Newton’s first law” has an indistinguishable creature kicking a ball, and “law of independent assortment” features some of the strangest plants you have ever seen.
“I love them.”
“What do you think of my art skills? Better than you, right?”
You laugh and turn back to your cutting board. “You should’ve considered art school instead of med school. Professional artist Seungmin,” you muse. “I can see you in galleries and museums.”
“Don’t forget the history textbooks. Why didn’t you consider art school? You would be perfect for video games or something.”
For some time, you did consider art school. You spent the first two years of high school daydreaming about sitting behind an easel, translating a model’s likeness onto paper. Perennial paint splatters on your jeans, permanent charcoal stains on your fingers—that was the only way you wanted to study human anatomy.
“My parents. You know how it is. Can you season the fries in the bowl?”
While Seungmin dumps copious amounts of salt, pepper, and whatever random spices he picked from the cabinet, you reflect on your teenage self. A part of you knew that drawing would only be a hobby, but another part kept hoping your parents would come around. When Hyunjin’s parents announced he was going to study chemistry, your mom wondered why he didn’t choose art when he was such a good artist. In fact, half the neighborhood, whose children went into STEM fields one way or another, were shocked he chose chemistry. Of course, if their own kids had opted for non-STEM majors, they would have been livid. Just like your parents had been.
“Did you ever think about not going into medicine?” you ask as you add more potato slices into the bowl.
He adds a swirl of oil to the mix. “No. It’s all I ever wanted to do. I volunteered at the hospital in high school, got an internship at a clinic here. I was studying for the MCAT and then…”
And then the university’s outdated housing killed him. It sounds horrific when phrased like that, but it’s more truthful than “Promising Young Pre-med Student Kim Seungmin Dead After Apartment Fire,” as the city newspaper headlined. His student ID photo smiled earnestly at readers, and a recent picture showed him posing in a lab coat.
It hits you then. Seungmin is dead. You knew this logically; you saw the articles, passed by the vigil, and signed the student letter demanding better accommodations. Then you forgot his existence until you applied to live in this building and when he appeared in your bedroom, you forgot about his death. Despite witnessing him walk through walls and tiptoeing around his deceased status, Seungmin has never really been dead to you. He’s your roommate who sleeps in the living room, your study partner who loves all things related to biology, or your friend. He’s too alive to be anything else.
“Did you preheat the oven?” he asks, breaking you out of your spiraling thoughts. Your body went on autopilot, and now the baking sheet is covered in pale potato sticks.
You glance at the dark oven and head over to do what you should’ve done twenty minutes ago. “My bad.”
“You’re the one eating these. Can you even finish all this?”
It’s far too much, but what else were you going to do with five potatoes on the verge of going bad? You suppose you could have not accepted them from your friend. “I can try?” you say, more to convince yourself than him. “I’m no coward.”
“Really? Then why do you hide when we watch horror movies?”
“That’s different. Mario Kart while we wait?”
“I call Birdo.”
Despite his declaration, you’re the one playing Birdo while he settles for Waluigi. Seungmin gloats when he hits you with a red shell, laughs when you fall off the track, and celebrates when he gets first place. He’s practically corporeal, alight with hopes and dreams you wish were your own, but he’s only the echo of the past. Meanwhile, blood flows through your veins and oxygen into your lungs, yet you’re stuck in a potential future you don’t even want.
Tumblr media
At the end of fall, between your human biology midterm and that stupid philosophy paper, you break. It’s during one of your MCAT practice exams, so you at least can cry at your desk. You can’t even cry without guilt; your mind immediately starts trying to reread the problem you’re stuck on through your tears, as if trigonometry will solve your crisis.
It feels like an elephant is sitting on your chest. Every time you think you’ve calmed down enough to begin again, another wave of sobs overcomes you. Just holding your pencil makes your throat tighten.
“Are you okay?” Seungmin’s voice is slightly muffled by your bedroom door, but you doubt that a thin piece of wood concealed your cries.
You choke out, “I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“... No.”
You swing open your door with sardonic fanfare, spreading your arms like a ringmaster. Seungmin makes no comment about your swollen eyes or your sniffles. You almost wish he had.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” he asks. He takes a tentative step into your room, and when you nod, he lets himself fully in. It’s been several months since he’s last been inside. Unmade bed, cluttered nightstand, paper-strewn desk—nothing much has changed. He sits on your chair, resting an arm on top of the throw blanket you’ve thrown over the back.
“I don’t know what there is to talk about,” you say after a moment of silence. “I hate class, I hate work, I hate my life. A breakdown has been long overdue.”
You stare at the floor, afraid to meet his gaze now that he’s seen you like this. Ever since you discovered Seungmin, you’ve crafted the perfect blasé attitude to accommodate your new living circumstances. He leaves you alone sometimes and stays cordoned off in the shared spaces to give you privacy, but you don’t break apart in your apartment for good reason. You’re open and raw like a bloody wound. Will he want to patch you up with bandaids, or will he pick and prod?
Pick and prod, you pray. Make some flippant remark about how easy you have it, how he wishes he could be in your position instead. Because if he does, then the situation must not be that bad.
Softly, Seungmin says, “What can I do to help?”
Your heart drops to your stomach. “I don’t know… I should probably get back to studying anyway.”
“Really? Are you serious?”
“What else am I supposed to do?” you snap. Seungmin at least has the decency to look sheepish. “The MCAT’s in July, and I don’t even understand half the things I’m supposed to know. I’m barely getting C’s in philosophy and art history because of it. That’s so humiliating.”
“Have you thought about, you know, not going to med school?”
A harsh laugh rips out of your throat. “Every single day. But it’s too late. I’ve already wasted four years, so what’s another four?” That doesn’t even include residency.
“You’d hate it.”
“Story of my life.”
The room goes quiet. Maybe you were too severe with your words, but how else do you explain it?
“What if you became a medical illustrator?” he abruptly suggests. “You’d know exactly how to draw everything. It’s perfect for you. And it’s still STEM-related.”
It doesn’t matter if it’s in STEM. Your parents laid out your options very clearly: doctor or disappointment. Some career choices were less disappointing than others, but they would still be disappointments.
“I need to study,” you say.
He stands up from your rightful seat at your desk. Softly, so very softly, he says, “I’ll let you get back to it then.”
“Thank you.”
He shuts the door behind him and leaves you with your despair. True to your word, you return to your practice exam, this time without crying. Your mouth is dry the entire session, but you don’t dare drink any water in fear that rehydration will trigger your tears. It’s stupid but keeps you holding on.
When you check your answers and review terminology, you refer to the set of flashcards Seungmin made for you. He didn’t expect you to use them, but his drawings have helped you better memorize the definitions. You shuffle through them, occasionally trying to figure out the relationship between whatever Seungmin drew and the word written. Other times—but not enough for your liking—you know exactly what they mean.
The rabbit from “absolute threshold” stares at you with lopsided eyes, and Mendel’s warped pea plants grow beneath your fingers. The whole world blurs.
Tumblr media
A month after move-in, after too many beers and barbeque chips, you asked Seungmin, “Why do you haunt only me? You can travel through the whole building, but you’re only ever here.”
He gestures at the room with a sweeping flourish. “This used to be my apartment. Sort of. They changed the floor plan, but this is the approximate location of where I lived, so when you moved in, it felt like fate.”
“Ah, a med school sufferer to keep you company.”
He laughs, but it sounds insincere. “How drunk are you right now?”
You glance at the row of empty cans you lined up on the counter. One, two, three, four, five. Five and a half, if you count the one in your hand. “Pretty drunk, I think.”
“So you won’t remember what I tell you, right?”
“Probably not,” you lie. “What is it?”
With a sad smile on his face, he says, “I haunt you because it’s like seeing someone live the life I could’ve had. Would’ve had.”
Tumblr media
Your outburst doesn’t go forgotten, but you and Seungmin dance around the topic with the grace of a seasoned ballerina. You show him your grocery hauls, he scolds you for buying expensive cookies. The two of you play Overcooked instead of Mario Kart and pretend that Overcooked will strengthen your friendship instead destroy it even further. Seungmin is really bad, embarrassingly so.
“Are you going to the party this weekend?” he asks as he drops onions all over the floor. There’s no health department in the game.
“I would ask you to be more specific,” you say, “but we both know I’m not going to any parties. Go chop the onions.”
“You need friends.”
“I have friends. Who do you think keeps us giving us potatoes?”
He scoffs. “That’s not a friend. That’s an enemy. We need more dishes.”
While you wash a stack of dirty dishes, Seungmin dashes between prepping ingredients and watching the timer on the soups. As expected, he doesn’t take the pot off the stovetop quick enough, and soon enough the whole kitchen is in flames. You scream at him to get the fire extinguisher, he wades through the sea of onions, and the level ends with a single gold star.
You set your joycon down and lean your head back. “Three stars or nothing” is your motto when playing Overcooked, but perhaps you can make an exception for Seungmin.
“Why’d you ask me about a party?”
“Honestly, I don’t know. Seems like a college student thing to ask. And a college student thing to do. Go to parties, I mean.”
“Not for us.” You stretch your arms and legs out, knocking your socked feet against the coffee table. “When have you ever seen me willingly leave the apartment?”
“Never,” he admits, “but you should enjoy your youth.”
Whatever mutual agreement you thought you and Seungmin had does not exist. You have long known that you would have to sacrifice your twenties for your future. There would be good moments among your struggles, but so many of your memories would be of test prep and studying. As your parents so eloquently put it, “You can draw after you retire.”
“That’s funny coming from you,” you say. You wave a hand in front of his face and observe the way his eyebrows scrunch together. “Are you really Seungmin?”
“Do you know any other ghosts?”
“Do you actually regret dedicating so much time to studying?”
“No. I mean, I went out when I could, but you…” He mindlessly thumbs the buttons of the controller as he tries to find his words. “Well, maybe I do a little bit, but it was fulfilling. Or was going to be anyway. You’re miserable. I’ve never seen you without dark circles or eye bags.”
How needlessly observant of him. “Thanks. It’s the quintessential college look.”
“Take care of yourself.” He raises his joycon and nods at the TV. “Let’s go again. Three stars only.”
And just like that, you and Seungmin go back to pretending as if everything is fine, like the last few minutes were idle chatter about the weather. You yell instructions at him, and he retorts back with something snarky; all is well.
Tumblr media
You suppose you should have realized why Seungmin asked you such out-of-character questions two weeks ago. Death anniversaries don’t typically go onto your calendar, but you could have made an exception for Seungmin. How did you forget? As you walk down the stairs, a wave of guilt washes over you.
The annual university-held vigil occurs on campus, but the apartment complex has their own small affair in the courtyard. Framed photos of the victims huddle together at the base of a half-wall. Already, there are several flowers and notes strewn about, and you add your own carnation to the pile. You have a note as well, and it burns your hand as you debate whether to leave it or not.
Twelve people died that night. “Only” twelve, as some papers reiterated. Twelve out of three hundred doesn’t seem too horrific given the state of the fire, but that’s still twelve people dead. Plenty more got injured trying to escape, and they aren’t honored at this memorial. The living don’t get commemorated—they live with the memories of the day, and that’s remembrance enough for the public.
“Hey.”
No one else is around, so you say, “Hey,” back to Seungmin. He disappeared for a few hours, and you assumed he would be gone until sunrise. In the days leading up to his death anniversary, he has grown increasingly depressed, looking vacantly out the window and mouthing words to himself. You idiotically thought he was just having one of those days.
“How are you holding up?” you ask.
“Fine, I guess. Good turn out this year,” he remarks as he kneels down to pick through the gifts. “The construction workers didn’t even show up to work because of superstition or something.”
“I’m really sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
“I know, it’s just…” You wave the folded notebook paper in your hand. Maybe you should’ve bought some stationery after all. “Read this later. I’ll see you whenever.”
You gently place it beside your carnation, return back to your apartment, and lock yourself inside your room. It’s too quiet, and you’re too restless. Your head tells you to do practice problems to burn off your energy, but all you’ve been doing as of late is listen to your head.
As you sketch an anatomical heart—underneath a completely necessary and painstakingly accurate rendering of a male torso—your bones say that this is right.
Tumblr media
To Kim Seungmin, a star that went out too soon—
You deserved so much more than this. I don’t even know what else to say because nothing feels more appropriate.
I’m living in your old apartment—where it used to be, at least—and I can’t help but feel that I’m living the life you should have had. Sometimes I can feel your presence when I’m studying. I can hear you reciting definitions and shuffling flashcards. When I’m really losing my mind, I can see you sitting on the couch watching House episodes with me. It’s comforting and terrifying.
You already know this, but I don’t want to go to med school. I hate it and I hate being a disappointment to my parents, but I hate being a disappointment to you the most. You should be in my place, so I thought I should try and complete your dream for you at the very least. I’m already miserable, so I should make the most of it. For a while, I thought this would make you happy, but it’s been making you sad and worried recently. I thought if I could make you happy, then it would be worth it, but I’m realizing it’s not, but I’m too scared to leave this path. Sometimes I don’t know who I am without med school looming over me, and it
I wish we would’ve met earlier. You’re an amazing person, full of light and kindness. The world is darker without you. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done and for everything that I didn’t do because you deserve so much better than whatever you’ve been given.
Tumblr media
“Do you want to talk?”
Seungmin’s upside down face appears between you and the iPad you have been holding up with both arms. Philosophy review is simultaneously boring and maddening, but you have a final to be studying for. You should’ve started much earlier, but twenty-four hours of cramming has not failed you when it comes to general education elective courses yet.
“Not really,” you say as you push his face out of view. He’s corporeal at the moment, so your hand meets resistance rather than going right through. “I’m busy.”
“Did you apply for a ‘biomedical visualization’ program? That’s a medical illustrator thing, right?”
You don’t need to look at him to know he’s thrilled. Since the memorial, you began looking into medical illustrators as a backup plan. You only meant to learn about the basic requirements, but curiosity got the better of you, and you attended an online informational session. Seungmin overheard bits and pieces because of how thin the walls are, you got cagey when he asked, and he put his endless hours of free time into detective work.
“I didn’t apply. I’m just looking around. Now go away.”
“The living room is a communal space. So you’re considering it then?”
You don’t respond and bring your iPad closer to your eyes. To read the tiny notes on the margins of your classmate’s notes, of course.
Seungmin cackles and claps his hands. “You are! This is good! Why are you so morose?”
“Because you interrupted my studying? I have less than ten hours to cover three months of content.”
“You’re deflecting. Are you worried about your parents?”
“Morose and deflecting,” you murmur. “Two gold stars for your vocabulary usage.”
“Are you?”
You shut your eyes, envisioning the stern faces of your parents when you announce over dinner your plans to spend your life not being a doctor. Their expressions morph from confusion to anger to grim when they realize how serious you are.
Are you serious about this? You’re not even sure yourself. It feels like you’re in high school again, holding onto a shred of hope for a future you aren’t allowed to have.
“What if I lie to them?” you say. “I tell them I got into a school that’s super far away, go there, and return when I’ve firmly established myself as an illustrator or whatever I end up doing. It’ll be too late for them to do anything.”
“That’s one way to do it. But wouldn’t it be better if you were upfront?”
You groan and turn back to your classmate’s notes. What is it like, you wonder, to not be crushed by the weight of approval? What is it like to know you won’t be scorned for your choices? No matter what you do, someone—your parents or Seungmin—will be upset.
Tumblr media
“Upset” is a very mild way to describe your parents’ reactions. After six cans of celebratory beer—you passed all of your classes this semester!—you called your parents to tell them good news. Somewhere between the silent congratulations and questions of your home arrival, you blurted out, “I think I’m gonna do biomedical visualization. Medical illustration. Art. It’s still medical-related, but not a doctor.”
And after a lengthy discussion filled with shouting, you’re not allowed to come home this year or ever again. CALL ENDED flashes on your screen, but you grip your phone so tightly you can feel your heartbeat in your fingertips. Your whole body is tense, flushed with indignation and shame. No tears come. You expected something like this but nothing to this extreme. Their words echo in your ears.
Ungrateful. Selfish. Disgrace.
Logically, you know you’re none of those things, but you can’t help but feel they’re at least a little bit right. You sink into your desk chair and wait for the inevitable knock on your door. To step out of your own accord would be mortifying.
“Are you okay?” asks Seungmin.
“I’ve been disowned in every way except legally,” you answer as you let him inside your room. “What do you think?”
“Sorry.”
“No, it’s…”
It’s not fine, but your mouth started saying so by default. You perch on the edge of your bed and stare at the stack of practice books that have been untouched for two days on your dresser. They would belong better under your bed where they’ll be out of sight.
Suddenly insecure, you ask, “You’re not gonna leave me, right? You’ll still help me peel potatoes and let me know when my artisan cookies are on sale?”
He chuckles. “The only way you can get away from me is by moving or by graduating. I’ll be here. Instead of nagging you to study, I’ll critique your anatomy.”
“That’s against the rules.” Nevertheless, you smile at the thought of Seungmin hyperfixed at your artistic renderings and comparing them against pictures from a textbook. “Thanks.”
Seungmin smiles back, and he radiates so much warmth that you forget it’s winter.
Tumblr media
EPILOGUE
“Honey, I’m home,” you call.
You nearly trip over the door sill in your heels but catch yourself in time. Wearing heels to commencement is a bad idea for more reasons than one. Clutching your friend’s graduation bouquet, you flip on the light switch with the back of your hand and glance over your apartment. Other than the dozens of boxes scattered across the living room and kitchen, nothing else belongs to you; goodbye coffee table you stubbed your toes against too many times; goodbye peeling school-issued couch. You half-expected to see Seungmin lying on it, staring at the ceiling like he used to.
“Seungmin, where are you?” When he doesn’t answer, you try again. “Anyone home?”
You wander around the small apartment, checking behind doors and furniture like you’re playing hide-and-seek. He’s nowhere to be found, and you go through the apartment again in a frenzy. He could be in a different part of the building, but he always knows when you’re looking for him.
“Where are you? Seungmin, this isn’t funny! I know you can hear me.”
It takes twenty minutes, but you eventually realize he’s gone for good. No goodbyes, no hugs, no teasing—he just waved you off to your ceremony and shut the front door. You knew he wouldn’t be able to help you move out, but you thought he would still be here when you returned. He researched additional art classes for you, suggested works for your portfolio, and consoled you whenever you were overwhelmed. It’s a knife to your heart that he’s not here.
In between tears that you don’t allow to fall from your eyes, you carry your boxes of belongings to your car. You have a new place to call home, but two perfectly nice housemates and a dog aren’t good replacements for a ghost who annoyed you from sunrise to sundown.
Tumblr media
I hope you find this note eventually. I know we have the rule where I’m not supposed to go through your belongings, but since we’re not going to be roommates any longer, I hope you’re not too mad. Completely unrelated but you’re really good at Mario Kart. So good. Birdo was designed specifically for you.
Congratulations on graduating. You’ve worked hard this year. Could have worked harder sometimes but you did it! Relax a bit during your gap year and enjoy your youth. Those art classes will be easy for you. Biomed visualization will be easy after pre-med studies.
Stop rolling your eyes and sighing. You know I’m right.
I’m sorry we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. I know you wanted it, but I don’t think I could have handled it. The truth is that I was ready to go a couple months ago when you started compiling your portfolio. For two years, I didn’t know why I was still here. At first, I thought my unfinished business was about the circumstances of my death. (Stop wincing. I’m dead. It’s a fact.) Then the administration stepped up. They did the bare minimum, to be honest, but at least changes were made. When you turned up, I thought I was supposed to fulfill my dream of going to med school. Turns out, I still have no idea what exactly why I was here, but seeing you live the life you want and choose the future you want makes me feel like business is finished.
To L/N Y/N, a star that will keep shining for decades to come—
I’m so proud of you and everything you’ve done so far. There are so many opportunities waiting out there for you, so don’t be afraid to take any chances. I’ll be with you always.

Sugar Coating - Lee Felix SMAU
Tumblr media
~ I'll fix it. ~
~
~
At one point in time, the two weren't broken.
Things change.
~
~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seungmin glances down at his phone before looking back up at Chan.
Jisung was right, Chan's hands were covered in blood, his face had blood streaks as if he had been wiping the sweat off his face with his bloody hands, and his clothes seem like they had come out of a slasher movie.
He couldn't answer Jisung's question quick enough, no excuses came to mind. The three men just stared at each other dumbfounded, all caught red handed, for Bang Chan it was literal.
Felix comes running out to find Chris. Jisung takes notice that he is also covered in blood in similar ways to the latter.
"Man, he's losing a lot of blood, I'm getting worried!" He almost yells in a panic before taking note of the two men that look like deer caught in headlights.
"What the hell are they-" He stops himself before questioning him further. "-you know what? I don't give a shit right now. Chris come back; we can't let Jeongin die." He pulls on Bang Chan's arm to lead him back down the hall.
"You two," Chris points at Seungmin and Jisung "don't you dare step a foot outside." and proceed to follow Felix to where he came from.
"Wait!' Han shouts. The two men look at him in annoyance trying to cut this interaction short. However, Seungmin looks at him in shock. "Ji. Don't." He warns.
"I have to." Jisung turned to his friend. "I'm a med student. I'm not sure what you have going on back there, but, no offense, I think I could help a little more than the two of you."
"Jisung what the hell?" Seungmin questions.
"I made an oath" Jisung replies without so much as glancing at his friend.
"You're not even a real doctor yet!"
"Min. Please." Jisung finally looks at his friend with pleading eyes. Even though he wasn't a doctor yet, that is the reason Jisung opted for that career path. He wanted to help people, and from the sounds of it, someone needed serious help.
Chris and Felix glance at each other. They both knew that Jeongin had no chance at making it unless he saw a professional, and at this moment in time, a med student was the closest thing to one that they had.
"Fine, follow us." And with that, Jisung is right behind them running down the hall, with Seungmin not far behind.
The second Jisung walks into the room, he assesses the situation. Jeongin was laid out in a tattoo chair that was laid flat. Changbin was applying pressure to his left shoulder as the kid was moaning and groaning in pain, and Lee know was standing to the side holding a bunch of blood covered rags.
"What happened??" Jisung questions as he keeps looking around the room to see if there were any REAL tools he could use.
"He was shot." Changbin says, with so much going through his head, he doesn't even question their presence.
"How was he- never mind. I need gauze, saline, gloves, and water." Han's hands hover over Changbin's as he debates on what to do next, before noticing that no one has moved a muscle. "NOW!' He yells before everyone springs into action.
The second that gloves are handed to him, he immediately gets to work. "There's too much blood..." He whispers to himself. "Turn him on his side!" He orders Changbin. '"Clean through..." He says when he notices there's a hole on Jeongin's back as well.
"Jeongin. How are you feeling?" He asks him and only receives a groan in response. In a more commanding voice he says, "Jeongin, I need you to stay awake for me, okay? This is going to hurt." Then he begins cleaning the wound area and zones out everything that is going on around him.
Everyone is watching attentively, except for Seungmin. "Why is he not in the hospital?? Is an ambulance in their way?"
"No." Lee Know responds which causes Seungmin to throw his hands in the air. "Why the hell not?! That kid could die!"
"Can you please shut the fuck up for a second? We can have a tea party and chat once your friend saves Jeongin." Felix says without sparing him a second glance. Too concentrated on his friend who is still writhing in pain as Chanbin and Chris try to keep his still.
With that Seungmin grows concerned, "And if he doesn't?" Which caused Felix to chuckle. "He fucking better."
~
After what feels like an eternity, Jisung steps away while IN is still crying from pain.
"All done" He sighs in relief.
"What do you mean? He's still in pain. Blood is still seeping through!" Chan almost yells.
"You don't particularly have the proper equipment for anyone to treat a damn gunshot wound, nor do you have the medication to keep him from pain. He will survive though. He was really fucking lucky." He says while looking around the room.
"Lucky?! He was fucking shot!" Changbin cries.
"Yes, but the bullet went straight through, barely missing his clavicle and any major arteries, had it been a couple of centimeters in any direction, he would have probably been dead by now. His only real danger was the blood loss, now it's infection, so it's very important that you guys take care of the wound going forward until it is fully healed. He lost a lot of blood, so he is going to be tired. Do not let him go to sleep until he is completely coherent, even through the pain. I'm assuming you guys are not going to the doctor for a checkup any time soon?" Jisung questions and the rest of the men simply glance at each other. All knowing that that is not even an option.
"Alright fair enough. I can ask my instructor why which antibiotics and painkillers he should take. I'll give you my number in case anything happens while I'm gone." He throws his gloves away and inspects his now blood-covered clothes.
Changbin is the first to speak up after a second of awkward silence. "Thank you." He says while keeping his eyes on Jeongin's scrunched up face.
"Yeah. No sweat." It felt like it had been hours since they had arrived. Checking the time, he is shocked that it had indeed been about 5 hours since they left the bakery.
"Yes, sweat! What the fuck is going on here?" Seungmin finally speaks up. Everyone in the room sighs in unison, not wanting to answer Seungmin's questions.
"Don't worry about it. Okay?" Chris answers but that was not enough for Seungmin.
"Don't worry about it?! Your friend was just shot, and you couldn't even take him to a hospital! You guys have receipts of people coming in and out all day of people I know for a fact have not been here! And oh yeah, not to mention... Your friend was fucking shot?!"
"It's better not to ask questions." Felix replies.
"I don't want to hear shit from you. I like you the least in the room."
"Fine. We do some sketchy shit okay? It's better if you don't know about it unless you want to end up like IN here. That's both a warning and a threat." Chris says while mainly talking to Seungmin, still grateful about Jisung saving his friend.
"Let's just get out of here. We'll keep our mouths shut; we just want peace." Jisung says as he makes his way to the door.
"Like hell we will." replies Seungmin outraged by the turn of events.
"I'll make sure he keeps his mouth shut." Jisung says as he drags his friend away. Exhaustion evident in his voice.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kim Seungmin is in front of a very annoying and ridiculous dilemma. And all of that is linked to the pathetic fact that he is starving.
Everything is Lee Minho’s fault, to be honest. For decades actually, everything has been his fault, because Seungmin would have never been starving, pacing in front of the back entrance of a hospital if it had not been for Minho’s fault. He is starving because he has been pushing that moment for days now. Maybe at some point hunger will take over his phobia of blood and he will just jump on the first person that goes by. Or he will die of starvation. Like he could die. Fuck Minho.
Usually Minho would concede his part of responsibility in all this situation, and he would be the one to deal with the whole starving part but right now Minho has a new boy toy and has disappeared. Seungmin knows very well how all this will end up because he has been Minho’s boy toy at some point, a very long time ago, a century ago and sometimes he feels like throwing up when he thinks about it. Sure it was great at the beginning, but then it was not and Seungmin was stuck.
Stuck in the body of a twenty five year old, stuck between the eternal dilemma of drinking people’s blood or fading away in slumber in a dark place, preferably a coffin. And both sucks because Seungmin has always had a very deep phobia of blood and now he is eternally being confronted by him. Why was his twenty five years old self so damn stupid?
He feels sick, as much as he can in his vampire form at least. His body weakens and even in the night time he feels like the public lightning is hurting him, he has trouble focusing on his vision and his head hurts so much it gives him dizziness. Fuck.
It could be very easy actually, he could find one random person and suck their blood out, and all the symptoms will be gone and he will be fine to go for a few weeks again, but his phobia is just plain stupid. The idea of drinking blood out of someone makes him feel even sicker, it paralyzes him. It is probably due to the fact that he can feel the person alive, the pulsing of their blood in their artery, and the warmness of it and the body, yeah, he can not do that. He can drink out of blood pocket, the one thing Minho promised he would always make up for. Seungmin will make sure Minho will never see the end of this.
Minho did leave some indications on how he gets the blood pockets usually, the hospital he goes to and how he gets in it but contrary to Minho, Seungmin has a conscience and maybe a faint reminder of a soul. Or maybe Seungmin has not been a vampire for long enough (just a few decades, not even a century). Anyway, he is not strong enough to do all this and now he is thinking about all the humans that could die because of him stealing some blood.
Seungmin takes a moment to realize that his canines are puncturing his lower lips, blood drips out of it. His senses are all over the place now. He does not hear the door opening, but he hears the pulse of blood running in a human body and the sound of his heart beating, it makes him crave with thirst and hunger and disgusts him at the same time, chills going down his spine. He does not control it when he jumps on the poor person that has just gotten out of the hospital.
The person screams when they both fall down the floor and he only hears them like their voices are an echo because all he hears is the blood. There is no control left in his own body, just hearing himself at the very back of his mind crying because he hates it so much, hates losing any kind of control, hates hearing blood like that, but there is nothing he can do about that.
As he can see himself getting closer and closer to that poor person throat, himself is experimenting an outer body experience, he hears the person scream and he feels them fight back the weight over them, helplessly because even running out on his last forces he is still stronger and faster than this human person could ever be.
"Please don't do that," the person implores under him, "Lee Minho sent me here!"
The name acts like an electro shock for Seungmin although he does not let go of his grip, because damn this human smells so delicious and he is so hungry he cant think, and his fangs are out. However his vision refocuses a little and he sees behind him a young boy, probably around his age (when he got turned.. at least), with black hair tied on a bun on his head, a medical white coat and a terrorising expression on his face. Seungmin feels so bad and so hungry, it feels like he is going insane.
"What?" He stutters.
It is ridiculous how hard it is to speak like that.
"Lee Minho?" The person says again, "if you let go of me I promise I got the... thing you're looking for."
It takes everything, absolutely everything in Seungmin to be able to do as said, but he still manages to get off them. Very quickly they crawl away from him, it still feels very bitter to be the reason of someone's else fear, Seungmin thinks. The person searches in their lab coat pocket and then takes something out of it. Seungmin recognises the blood pockets that Minho usually stock in their fridge.
"Please dont bite me," the person whispers, handing out the blood pockets.
Seungmin considers them still on the ground in front of him, curled up over themselves only their arm extending. They are looking at him with pleading eyes. He takes a step forward and they curl up even more, he sighs and very quickly takes the blood pockets. He does not even bother and bites into the plastic immediately.
He lets out a content sigh when he feels finally the energy coming back in his body and the fog in his brain finally lifting up. Once he is done with the first pocket he gets back to his senses and suddenly realises that the person he had just attacked is still staring at him in the exact same position as before.
"I'm sorry," he mutters.
He feels ashamed of himself now. He does not know this person at all and he probably just gave them the worst fear of their life.
"Its okay," they answer although nothing in voice sounds like they are okay, "Minho warned me it could happen."
Seungmin rolls his eyes.
"You do that often?" He wonders.
"Only for Minho."
Seungmin swallows down the amount of inappropriate questions he has in his mind, although he is almost sure Minho's current boy toy's name is Jisung.
"He gives me money," he adds quickly.
"That's... okay?"
"I just didnt want you to assume stuff. He flirts a lot but it's not like that."
Seungmin stares. He can hear their heart beating faster.
"Okay," he says again.
He also notes that the stranger is very cute. Scrap that brain, he pesters at himself. The person stands up suddenly.
"I gotta go back to work."
Seungmin stops sipping on his blood pocket, "you work here?"
"Yeah, how do you think I get these?"
"But..."
They shrug, "I need the money. And you need food or else you'll do exactly what you just did to me. And its fucking scary."
"Right. Thanks."
"I'm Hyunjin by the way."
"Seungmin," he stutters.
"Well.. so, maybe I'll see you around?"
Seungmin is not sure exactly what this question involves exactly but it makes him smile slightly, "yeah. Sure."
Hyunjin smiles and waves him goodbye and goes back inside the hospital.
Maybe, just maybe, Seungmin does not hate Minho as much as usual today.

hi bestie :) its my bday today and i just wanted to thank you for making my last year happier and better with your fics and works and interactions on this platform :)) also as an ace neurodivergent, i really do resonate with your works and feel happy and represented and hopeful that one day i’ll find myself a boyfie that can accept me for who i am lol
ANYWAYS thank you so much for giving so much joy in my last year and im sure you will continue to bring me joy this year too lol
IF i may indulge in with a request, can we get a tmi or a spoiler for wereroomies!jisung or seungmin? they are both my ult biases and babies and you’ve mentioned your working on their fics so…. i beg for a crumb lmao OMG WAIT THEORY TIME (you can tell there is adhd) so i rmb you said that jisung is a nurse and seungmin is a med student? imagine they go to work tgt (seungmin is there for placements) and then han wingmans him to seungmin’s yn lol
ANYWAYS TYSM AND ILY BESTIE HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY TODAY TOO
(ps you are the sole reason i got into werewolf fics bc of wereroomies)
omg happy birthday !!!
the fact that what i, an ace neurodivergent, write resonates with you, who's also an ace neurodivergent, warms my heart. i genuinely don't think i ever experienced as much acceptance around those two things as i did when i joined this community a year ago. the fact that you feel like my works represent you makes me all fuzzy and and and 🥺 idk, it's cute. thank you for telling me this. you've got no idea how much it means to me.
i'll give you a few little spoilers for wereroomies!seungmin. be aware these might change as i start working fully on him, so these aren't set in stone, but hope you (and anyone else that reads these) enjoy them anyway:
my idea for seungmin is to also code him as autistic and ace (sorry, i can't help it).
he and jeongin have been together since they were kids (maybe they come from the same pack? i haven't decided yet), so i hope to have more of jeongin in his instalment, too.
i also hope to highlight his relationship with the pretty mum... since they're really close.
i want to craft his story around self-descovery. it might be a bit sad at parts--especially when it comes to his relationship with the reader... but hopefully our puppy min will overcome any challenge he might have to deal with.
i'm still fine-tuning some things about him and his background, but i started writing something already, so we'll see how long it takes me to work on that fully (: it's now a race to see who i finish first, seungmin or jisung hahah
oh, and, as a bonus, i'll tell you that he'll probably share hobbies with pretty mum~

dive + bang chan
hello lovelies! \ (•◡•) / im sorry it took so long for me to post another scenario since i had to deal with school stuff :/ this is for anon who requested for a crush!chan, i hope you enjoy!!
REQUEST BOX IS CLOSED.
Tumblr media
"-and that's why I'm never skipping training."
You could faintly hear Felix's rant in the background -- something about having to train harder and longer during the week in payment of skipping three days worth of swim practice. But your mind was too preoccupied with the sight you were met with as soon as you entered the university's swim center, and no, you weren't gawking at the intricate details -- which probably cost a fortune -- that embellished the swimming grounds, it was more of a someone who caught your attention.
"They're here!" Jisung cheered from the farther edge of the olympic-size pool. "Lix!" Chris called out for the boy beside you, who was still cursing the older male under his breath and possibly in his head too, as you could just imagine him mentally listing off ways to push the black-haired male into the pool, judging by the look on your best friend's face.
"He can swim, you idiot," you deadpanned which caused Felix to stop in his tracks, staring at you in shock. "How did you even?" he asked, voice softening as his eyebrows contorted in confusion. Instead of giving him an answer, you lightly smacked his right arm, earning a yelp from the male. "Don't even think about it," you playfully scolded him.
"Today was arm day," he complained as he rubbed the spot where your hand met his flesh a few seconds ago. "I'm sorry, but you knew you had that one coming," you replied. "Are you psychic or something?" Felix questioned, his attention still on you with his hand still rubbing the same spot.
You just rolled your eyes at him as you neared Felix's teammates, sitting beside Jeongin and Seungmin, who immediately made room for you the moment Jisung acknowledged -- well practically announced -- your presence as you stepped foot inside the swim center. You were met with a chorus of various greetings, to which you smiled and waved in return. "Hey, you haven't been visiting us for a while," Seungmin noted and the other boys agreed. And in that moment, you quickly tried to rack your brain with a plausible excuse. "I'm a med student and finals are coming up, what do you expect?" you joked.
"I think Chan-hyung can help. He has a lot of spare time nowadays," Hyunjin offered, shooting a knowing look towards your direction. You almost choked on your saliva, but you managed to regain your composure and shrug off Hyunjin's attempt to embarass you infront of the whole team, especially infront a certain someone.
"Yeah, (y/n). I took some of the courses that you have now," Chris agreed, totally oblivious to what the younger male was hinting at, which made you breathe a sigh of relief. "I might have to take your offer," you paused as you shifted your gaze towards Felix and his run away accomplices, "But it seems like you have your hands full."
Everybody, except for Chris, Minho, and Seungmin, groaned in annoyance. "You didn't have to remind him," Changbin whined.
Chris chuckled at the younger one's response. "They got an earful from coach this morning. He’ll be supervising them during training, which means I have some time to kill."
"I'll let you know," you flashed him a small smile, biting the insides of your cheek in your attempt to suppress a full grin.
At this point, Hyunjin could've just blurted out that you had been catching feelings for their team's captain.
Chris, better known as Chan to his teammates, was the swim team's captain. He was quite popular alongside his teammates as he broke records, did well in his academic endeavors, and practically looks like a living embodiment of a god -- so needless to say, he attracts a lot of attention.
A year ago, you didn't think that you'd actually have a chance at being in the same circle of friends, but with Felix being your best friend and making it on the team, you were immediately welcomed into their group. You got to know more about them, way past those senseless rumors thrown around the campus. A few months into hanging out with them, you guys looked out for each other like family, but you saw Chris in a different light. He might have dropped hints here and there, but you weren't really sure if he was being playful or serious.
Sure, he'd ask you to hang out with him once in a while and he treats you sweetly. But, maybe he was being friendly? Or worse, maybe he just saw you like a little sister?
However, the both of you had gotten even closer over the past few weeks, since Chris has been teaching you how to swim. You took up his offer in order to skip your swimming classes next semester, but this would only be possible if a member from the team taught you the course and gave you a pass. It was a win-win situation, you lessen your load next semester and you get to spend more time with Chris.
"Alright boys, let's do some laps," Chris commanded, making his teammates sigh in defeat, following his orders nonetheless. "You sure you're okay here, (y/n)?" Chris asked you as he got up from his seat. You nodded, "Yeah, don't worry."
Two hours passed and the boys were finally done, all showered and ready to head home. "Bub, let's go. I'll walk you to your dorm," Felix spoke as he approached you, grabbing your bag for you and helping you up from your seat with his free hand. "I'll see you guys tomorrow," Felix turned towards his teammates. "Bye guys," you smiled and waved, the guys happily returned your gesture and told you to head home safely.
"I'll let you know," Felix mocked you in his best impression of your voice as soon as you guys exited the building, referring to your interaction with Chris a couple of hours ago. "I do not sound like that," you gasped, faking an offended expression. Felix laughed and continued his comical representation of you. "But seriously, ask him out already, " he said, assertion evident in his tone. "If it were that easy, we'd be dating for three months now," you argued. "It is that easy. I'm pretty sure hyung likes you back," Felix insisted, still set on convincing you to confess.
"Alright, I'll think about it, okay?"
[Two days later...]
The library was less congested during the early hours and considering that it was a Sunday, most students are out cold -- either passed out in their bed due to lack of sleep within the whole week or passed out due to a hangover. You settled for a seat at the second floor, near the computer section, making it easier for you to access the printers in case you needed to print out reviewers that you missed. Once you got your stuff laid out, you started your task.
A few hours into your self-proclaimed study session, a hand gently placed a drink on your desk, causing you to look up at the owner.
"Chris."
You greeted him with a smile as you gestured for him to take a seat beside you. "I figured you'd be here," he said, a light chuckle erupting from his lips. He carefully slid the takeout coffee cup closer to you. "Chai tea, it's good for you," he claimed. You muttered a 'thank you' and sipped the warm drink, which instantly spread throughout your body, allowing you to relax and ease some of the tension that was collectively gathering on your shoulders.
"Training?" you asked as you noted Chris' attire, the team's signature sweater, black shorts, and black vans. "Yeah, I'm heading out in twenty minutes," he replied and you nodded. "But I decided to stop by and check to see if you were here, and maybe ask you to hang out later," he added and quickly averted your gaze as a sheepish smile formed on his lips.
“Yeah, I’m down,” you agreed, taking another sip of the drink that was in your possession, suddenly finding the cup interesting -- your attempt to conceal the blush that dusted your cheeks.
Chris cleared his throat and stood up. “Cool, well I should get going before the boys accuse me of being late,” he said. A soft laugh escaped your lips, knowing full well that the boys would try anything to evade their punishment and pin it on their captain. “I’ll see you later,” you replied, flashing him a smile as he did the same and went on his way.
A couple of hours later, you decided to conclude your study session and head back to your dorm. As soon as you stepped out from the building, a message notification from your phone stopped you in your tracks.
[Chris]: 7 pm at the swim center, bring a change of clothes
[You]: another swimming lesson??
[Chris]: you’ll see ;) i’ll pick you up, beautiful.
[You]: alright, see you later :)
[Chris]: later, bub
You smiled at your phone. This is what you mean by Chris’ actions hinting at something that crossed the line of being a good friend. Sure, Felix -- even Hyunjin and Jisung -- calls you a nickname every once in a while, but with Chris, it comes off different, it feels different. You feel butterflies in your stomach every time he graces you with a sweet gesture.
But you try to push those feelings and fantasies away, not wanting to expect anything from him and end up getting disappointed, or maybe end up hating him for not reciprocating your feelings. After all, Chris is a nice guy, you’re pretty sure he’s just looking out for you as a friend, plus he probably just wanted to get your swimming course done and over with.
The time he had set for you both to meet quickly rolled by as you were now walking alongside Chris, your bag hung from his shoulders as he insisted on carrying it for you when he came and picked you up from your dorm.
“Go change, I’ll wait here,” Chris said, handing you your things and walking off towards the bleachers where his gym bag was settled.
Soon, Chris was leading you towards the pool, taking off his shirt before jumping into the water. He extended a hand for you to take and you easily complied, feeling his grip tighten as you sit at the edge of the pool, carefully easing yourself into the water.
As you landed, you came face to face with Chris. You averted your gaze from him and cleared your throat.
“Today’s the last day of your course, by the way,” Chris spoke, your hand still within his hold. “Really? Already?” you exclaimed, looking up at him. “Yeah, so do your best,” he answered.
You nodded earnestly, wanting to make him proud in a way and of course, getting to get a free pass for your swimming class next semester.
Chris went over the whole course that night, asking you every now and then if you had anything that you wanted to clarify. He showed you various techniques and tips on how to swim better in order to prevent yourself from getting injured.
“Your posture on that last lap was better,” Chris complimented as you demonstrated the last pointer he gave you. “Thank you, captain,” you teased, which earned you a laugh from the male.
You eased yourself up on the side of the pool, with your legs still in contact with the water. “Chris, thank you for doing this,” you beamed and as you spoke, Chris approached you, his hands coming up to your knees as he settled himself between your legs. Your eyes widened at his sudden movement, not sure where your hands should go so you opted to place them at your sides.
“Anything for my favorite girl,” Chris answered.
You stared at him wide-eyed, unsure of how to respond. What was he up to?
“Chris, stop joking around,” you replied as you lightly hit his arm in a joking manner. And as you did, Chris caught your hand and placed it on his shoulder, repeating the same motion on your other hand. He moved closer, his face now inches away from yours.
“I’m serious, (y/n),” Chris stated as he snaked his arms around your waist. “You know I didn’t just sign up for this in order to help you. I did this because I wanted to get to know you better, I wanted to be close to you, I wanted your attention,” he added, his brown orbs staring intently at yours -- desperately trying to convince you that he was dead serious. He wouldn’t play with your feelings like that, no way.
“You had my attention since day one, dummy,” you breathed out. “I like you a lot, Chris.”
Upon hearing your confession, Chris broke into a cheesy grin. The tip of his ears turning red as he giggled from embarrassment. “I like you a lot too, (y/n),” he responded, leaning an inch closer to rest his forehead on yours. He stared down at your lips, making your breath hitch.
“Can I?”
You nodded and he then closed the gap between the two of you. You could feel your senses going into overdrive as he kissed you, softly at first, and then with a shift of intensity that evoked new sensations you never thought existed or at least, those that you never thought you would be capable of feeling.
You pulled away first. Chris’ eyes were hazy, his facial expression mirroring yours as you looked at him with such affection.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered as he planted a peck on your forehead. “Well, you’re ethereal,” you replied, making Chris chuckle. He leaned in for another kiss, but you turned away, making him kiss your cheek instead. Chris looked at you in confusion.
“I would really like to kiss you again, but I’m getting cold,” you giggled. “Right, of course,” Chris agreed as he pulled away from your embrace, easing himself out of the pool and coming to your aid as he stood you up.
After an hour or so, the both of you finally exited the center with your hands in his. You shuddered as the night breeze grazed your skin. Chris noticed and stopped you in your tracks. He gently dropped your bags on the ground as he pulled a black hoodie from his bag.
“Arms up, babygirl,” he ordered, sliding the said article of clothing over your head and letting it fall onto your frame. “Better?” he asked while he fixed your hair, tugging some of the strands that were caught within the fabric. “Yeah, thanks,” you replied, giving him a quick kiss on the lips.
“So, do I get a pass on the course?” you questioned as the both of you continued your walk towards your dorm. Chris hummed in thought, “Under one condition.”
“And that is?” you asked, raising one eyebrow at him. “You say yes to being my girlfriend,” he answered, making you blush. “I thought the answer was already obvious,” you stated. “I wanted to hear it from you, though,” Chris insisted.
“Yes, Chris. I’ll be your girlfriend.”
“What was that?”
“I said yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.”
“I can’t hear you, (y/n).”
You playfully rolled your eyes at him and walked ahead, leaving him a few feet behind you.
“Babyyyy,” Chris called for you, kissing your cheek as he caught up with your pace. “I was just kidding,” he cooed. “And since you’re my girl, you have to be present in all of my swim meets from now on,” he added. “First row seat?” you asked to which Chris nodded in response. “Finally!” you cheered as Chris beamed at your reaction.
“You excited to see me up close?” he asked, a cocky grin forming on his lips, certain that you would agree, but you decided otherwise.
“No. I’ve always wanted to see Hyunjin up close,” you deadpanned and Chris’ grin fell, only to be replaced with a small pout. You bit your bottom lip in order to suppress the smile that was tugging on your lips. You eventually gave in when you heard Chris’ reply.
“It’s the way he throws his hair back, huh?”
You let out a laugh. “You see right through me,” you gasped, placing a hand on your chest as you faked a shocked expression. Chris gave you a look which halted your comical antics. “Alright, I’ll stop,” you said.
“My eyes will only be on you, I promise,” you assured, tugging at Chris’ sleeve in order to make him lean down, grabbing the opportunity to plant a kiss on his lips as he complied with your gesture. “It better be,” he replied and pulled you closer to him.
[The next day...]
“Nice hoodie, (y/n),” Jisung noted as you approached their table at the cafeteria with Chris by your side, who was holding two trays of food. The boys immediately looked up and cheered upon hearing Jisung’s teasing. “Fucking finally,” Felix exclaimed, “I thought I’d have to lock you guys up and force you to confess to each other,” he added dramatically which earned him a chorus of laughter from the others.
“Shut up, Lix,” you whined, but you couldn’t resist a smile as you saw their reactions.
As you and Chris sat down, he gently pushed one of the trays towards you, asking you if you needed anything else. You shook your head and muttered a small ‘thank you’.
“Hyung, I need more water,” Changbin fake whined, batting his eyelashes at the older male. “Go get your own,” Chris replied, not even sparing the younger lad a glance. The boys laughed hysterically, dragging out their amusement for as long as they could.
Soon enough, the laughter died down as you guys engaged in conversation, only to be interrupted by Seungmin who reminded everyone of the time.
“I’ll see you later, then?” Chris asked as the others took care of clearing the table. You nodded and planted a kiss on his cheek. “You missed, baby,” Chris joked, earning him a light slap on his arm. He faked a hurt expression, hissing in pain to add into his dramatic act.
“Now, I’m injured. Looks like I have to skip training,” Chris lifted his shoulders in a half shrug, intertwining his arm with yours and pulling you towards the opposite direction where his members were headed. You halted his playful attempt as you pulled away from his grip.
“Chris, no,” you giggled at his actions. “I’ll meet you as soon as my classes are done, okay baby?” you assured as you gave him a kiss on his lips.
“Fine,” Chris sighed in defeat.
“Hyung, hurry up!”
“Save your smooching for later and somewhere private!”
The both of you chuckled upon hearing the boys’ hollers. “One more for good luck,” Chris requested as he leaned in and gave you a peck. “Now, go,” you said, pushing him away and watching him jog towards the boys.

kim seungmin - bet
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kim Seungmin x Reader | Genre: fluff | Warnings: none | WC: 820 words
Request: Seungmin helping you, a med student, study for exams?? like he makes sure you're drinking water and helps with your notes and gently convinces you to go to bed when it gets late, and he tells you how proud he is 🤗💛💛
Tumblr media
Being a med student certainly wasn’t easy. Anyone and everyone knows that. The amount of hours spent doing clinicals, studying, test taking, etc. Finding time just to grab yourself some coffee became hard, especially when it was time for exams.
You were a med student so you knew how important nutrition was for your body and brain. You knew that getting an amicable amount of sleep a night was needed for you to keep functioning properly, but you couldn’t help it when exam season came around, you seemed to forget all of that important stuff and focus entirely on your studies.
The first time exams came around when you had just moved in with your roommates, they were rightfully concerned when you didn’t leave your room for two weeks. That they hadn’t seen you in person for fourteen days. Obviously, they thought you had died or something because they hadn’t heard a peep from you, but thankfully, once your best friend was able to pick the lock to your door, they found you hunched over your desk studying away.
Since then, your roommates were more diligent in making sure you took breaks. Especially around exam times. Seungmin was one of your roommates and he was a wonderful friend and person. He learned early on that knocking on your door would result in nothing, instead, having a key made to be able to open the door whenever he pleased.
It was nearing three in the morning and he saw the sliver of light from under your door. He sighed, walking back to his room to grab his key and entered into your room. Just as he expected, he found you—barely awake—hunched over your books and furiously writing notes. He grabbed the pen from your hand and you sent him a glare. He only sighed as he saw your red eyes and dark bags.
“Bed." Was all he said and you groaned, getting up and shuffling to your bed. You fell down face first on the mattress and he laughed, turning you over and pulling the covers over you, “You’re not getting up until noon, understood?” He said and you hummed, eyes already closed on your way to dreamland. He shut your lights off and took your books back to his room with him just in case you tried to wake up and continue studying.
The next day you woke up feeling more refreshed than you had the past few days and you sent a silent thanks to Seungmin for that. Once you had settled at your desk to continue slaving away over your books, Seungmin was once again beside you, pulling them away, “You need to eat! We’re going to go to your favorite café. C’mon!” He pulled you up and when you tried to protest he only sent you a glare that had you sighing dramatically and throwing a hoodie over your head.
“You need to get out every once in a while, you know. Get some sun on you. You're paler than a Casper,” Seungmin teased as you shoved your breakfast into your mouth. This really was your favorite café and you couldn’t remember the last time you actually sat down and had a proper meal, “How’s studying going though?” He asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
You wiped your mouth and shrugged, “Same as always. Just worried about forgetting everything or something.” He smiled at you and reached over to pat your hand.
“Please. The Y/N I know is going to pass with flying colors.” You smiled at him and thanked him quietly. Seungmin really was the best cheerleader you could ask for. He never forced you to not study, but he always made sure that you were taking care of yourself in those times.
“How about we make a bet?” He asked with a smirk. You let out a laugh and rolled your eyes.
“You and your bets. Hit me.” You couldn’t tell how nervous he was, but inside Seungmin felt like he was melting.
“If you pass, I get to take you on a date,” your cheeks heated up and your mouth fell open a little bit. You had always had a small crush on him, but you truly never thought he would feel the same or that it would go anywhere.
“A-and if I don’t pass?” You stuttered out and Seungmin pretended to think for a moment.
“Well, we both know that you’re going to pass anyways, but if you don’t, then you take me on a date.” Your cheeks were probably the color of cherries by now and the butterflies in your stomach were taking away your appetite. However, you weren’t one to back away from a bet. Curse your competitive nature.
“You’re on, Kim,” you said, holding your hand out for him to shake.
He chuckled, grabbing your hand in his and shaking it, “I’m looking forward to it, L/N.”

Chapter 15/17
Word Count: 2.4K
Genre: enemies to lovers, piano majors, series
Hyunjin x female reader ft. Stray Kids
Notes:
- This chapter features the song All I Ask of You from The Phantom of the Opera. You can refer to this during the musical: https://youtu.be/yfPLh_6ckzI
-  Also, I am more than certain that Changbin would be a great Phantom and Seungmin, a great Raoul. Enjoy!
When you finally had the chance to go through your notifications, the first thing you saw were Changbin’s messages.
<I’m so, sorry Y/N!>
<I was so worried about you that I forgot to knock.>
<And I almost forgot to freak out after seeing you two.>
<You and Hyunjin?!!>
<I need an explanation!!!>
<Tell me everything!!!>
<When did you two start?!!>
<Okay fine, you must be really tired but still, I need the explanation when you feel better.>
<And I definitely have to meet the guy so I know what you’re getting yourself into.>
You giggled to yourself as you typed a reply.
<I’m feeling much better thanks to Hyunjin. I would have been in a worse situation if he didn’t jump into action right away.>
<And from what you saw, well, he was just finishing up his confession so… yea.>
<Don’t worry about me, Bin. I’ll be okay.>
You spent the next few days at your dorm, finishing up your papers. The department had decided to not hold written examinations for students in their last semester, to accommodate sufficient preparation time for the competition. Rather, the exams were converted into essays, where each student was to reflect on their musical journey, as well as reviews on the concert that they attended.
Due to your special circumstance, you were given an extension to submit your work. Being the type of student that you are, you did not need the extension period to complete your essays. In fact, you submitted them early.
A ding from your email notification suddenly caught your attention. Opening up your inbox, there was a new message.
<Results_Faculty of Music_Piano Department>
The email you were waiting for had finally arrived. It was sent with high importance, along with an attached document that held the results from competition day. Your hands began to tremble as you were unsure of what to expect. Who would the winner be?
Taking a few deep breaths to calm yourself, you opened the document and scanned through its contents.
To all final year piano majors,
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all competitors for taking part in this year’s graduating piano competition. After much consideration, we are pleased to announce this year’s winners. The top three are listed as follows.
Third place goes to: Lee Felix with a score of 87%
Second place goes to: Yang Jeongin with a score of 91%
And miraculously tied in first place: Hwang Hyunjin and Y/LN, Y/FN with a score of 97%
First place winners will also be given the opportunity to continue their studies at the Vienna Conservatory of Music.
Congratulations on your accomplishments! I wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
Yours Sincerely,
_____________, PhD
Director of the Piano Department
Faculty of Music
The first thing you did was to call Hyunjin. After two rings, he picked up.
“Hello?” He answered in a sleepy voice.
“Hyunjin, we won! We tied in first!”
The line went silent for a moment. You thought that he had hung up.
“Hello, Hyunjin?” You called for him.
“I’m here, Y/N.” He paused for a moment, still processing your words. “Did you just say we tied in first? No way.”
“Yes way and we’re going to Vienna! My dream city!”
You giggled to yourself.
“And what’s more, I get to go there with you.”
Hyunjin chuckled from the other end.
“You got plans for tonight?” He asked. “Haven’t seen you the past few days and I already miss you.”
It was the day of Changbin’s performance and you have been looking forward to it. You had to attend. Perhaps you could bring Hyunjin along.
“Well, I’m going to my friend’s performance tonight. It’s at the same concert hall that we went to back in January. He got us free seats. Wanna go?”
“Who can turn down a free concert? Of course I'll go. And with my favourite person too.”
“Awwww, I never expected you to be this sweet, Hyunjin. Or are you?”
You could hear his laugh through the phone.
“You’ll always be my favourite person, Y/N.”
“Mhmm. Yea, we’ll see about that.” You replied sarcastically. “Anyways, the concert’s at seven, which gives us some time to get food. Where do you wanna go?”
“How about that pizza place across the street?”
“Hyunjin!”
He chuckled.
“I’ll bring my meds this time, I promise. Remember, I can always risk it for pizza. Especially when you love it so much.”
“Okay fine.” You sighed in defeat. “But you better bring your meds, or else.”
***
You met with Hyunjin in front of the music building at the same time as your previous encounter. He had on a different blazer than the one he wore for the competition, yet he still had on the same maroon tie. Although, it did not seem to be much of a tie around his neck.
“Hyunjin, what the heck is that?” You pointed to his awfully knotted tie.
“It’s a tie. And I can’t seem to get it right.” He looked at you with a pout. “Can you redo it for me, please?”
You rolled your eyes.
“You’re such a liar, Hwang Hyunjin. I know that you’re able to tie one properly.”
Nonetheless, you still found yourself reaching up to redo his tie.
“No I can’t.” He said. You could hear the fake innocence in his voice.
“Shush. I saw it on competition day and it was pristine. Even better than my knots.”
You eyed him suspiciously.
“Was that a trick you played on me that day when we were in the store?” You asked.
Hyunjin blushed.
“Alright, alright, you caught me.” He lifted his hands, surrendering to your observations. “I pretended not to know how to tie a tie properly.”
He leaned in towards you to whisper.
“So that you can do it for me.”
You exhaled in annoyance as you quickly re-knotted his tie.
The campus was bustling at the hour, with students who just completed their evaluations. It was the perfect time to enjoy the arrival of spring. Within the group of students, quite a few were Hyunjin’s fans.
“Oh my gosh, it’s the prince!”
A few of them ran up to greet him.
“You look so great, Hyunjin! Where are you off to?”
Hyunjin looked over at you and gave you a smile. Taking your hand in his, he held it up to them.
“On a date with my girlfriend.” He answered.
Your jaw dropped all the way to the ground. Hwang Hyunjin really was shameless.
What surprised you even more was how well his fans took the news, albeit their disappointment that you were dating their prince.
“Ah, I knew it.”
“I’m so happy for you both.”
“Yea, we’re wondering if you’ll ever date. But I guess no one else suits you better than Y/N.”
“Congratulations on winning the competition by the way! It was so cool to see you two on stage!”
“Who won?”
“Both of them.”
“For real?”
“Yup. Tied in first.”
“Wow. They really are meant to be together.”
You smiled at them sheepishly before Hyunjin gave you a tug, signaling to carry on with the ‘date’.
The two of you walked down the same path towards the pizza parlour, hoping to reenact the events from last time, with a better ending. It felt a lot like the second take of a movie scene.
Hyunjin asked you to take a seat at the same table while he made his order. It was not a long wait until your food arrived, sooner than you expected.
“Here we are, a sausage embedded pizza crust with pepperoni on one half and all meat on the other half, just like last time.” He said while placing the box in front of you. “But this time, I’m going to add a few extra toppings.”
“I hope those ‘toppings’” You gestured with air quotes, “are your meds, Hyunjin. I can’t have you running off to the bathroom for twenty minutes and being late for the concert again.”
Hyunjin took out a small container from his pocket.
“Precisely, milady.” He winked at you. “I also don’t really mind the shenanigans either.”
You rolled your eyes.
“Shut up and take your meds before you regret it.” You said, digging into your first slice.
The two of you were a little overdressed for dinner at the pizza parlour, but it was an embellishment for the evening. You glanced over at his maroon tie as you continued to chew on your pizza.
“You really like the tie.” You commented.
“Mhmm.” He answered. “It reminds me of you.”
“But you wore it on the day of the competition.”
“The same reason you wore that dress.”
“Well, I couldn't let it go to waste. That’s why I’m wearing it again for tonight. Have to make the best out of it.”
“Right.” Hyunjin leaned in closer. “Just like it reminded you of me.”
 “Ha.”
The two of you finished your pizzas and left the store. On your way to the concert hall, a sudden breeze from the evening of early spring sent you shivering.
Hyunjin seemed to notice. He took off his blazer and draped it across your shoulders.
“Remember when I talked about wearing winter jackets even when it’s spring to prevent catching a cold?”
“Yea, yea. I’ll bring my winter jacket next time.” You stuck your tongue out at him.
“Better now?” He asked, ignoring your childish antics.
You nodded, surprised at his act of chivalry. Standing on the tip of your toes, you reached over to kiss him on the cheek.
Hyunjin was stunned by your sudden display of affection.
“Come on, let’s go. Or we’ll be late for the concert.” You looped your arm in his.
With the help of Hyunjin’s medication, he was fine from all that cheese on the pizza. The two of you arrived early at the concert hall, with extra time to prepare before it began.
It appeared that your best friend had gotten you the upper balcony seats.
“The acoustics are the best up there. Here’s an extra ticket, in case you want to bring a friend.” Changbin said, handing them to you. “So you can hear me belt my notes.”
“Thanks, Bin. I’m really looking forward to it.” You told him.
Once in your seats, you opened the programme that you had been given and skimmed through its contents.
“Phantom of the Opera.” Hyunjin read over the title. “I’ve always loved the story.”
He flipped through his booklet, stopping at the page that featured the cast.
“Which one’s your friend?” He asked.
“Changbin. We’ve known each other since we were babies.” You replied. "And he’ll be the Phantom for tonight."
“Oh cool. Wait…” He glanced over at you. “He’s not the one who kissed you, right?”
You smacked him lightly on the shoulder.
“Heck no. That was the other friend.” You wiggled your eyebrows at him. “Why? Are you jealous?”
Hyunjin pulled you closer, lacing his fingers with yours.
“I’ll always be.” He said. “And tell that other friend of yours to back off, because you’re mine.”
You chuckled to yourself.
“Oh, Hyunjin.” You said, shaking your head. “You’re so cute.”
The lights in the audience dimmed and brought more focus to the stage. Conductor Bang Chan walked over to the microphone to introduce the program for the evening. After his quick preamble, the musical began.
You quickly became absorbed into the story, singing along with the cast. It was the musical that you knew the best, as you had memorized each individual song by heart. The moment Changbin appeared on stage, you nearly jumped out of your seat. Never in your years of knowing him, have you ever seen your best friend dressed so professionally. The Phantom mask had enhanced his features, along with a touch of mystery.
“That’s your friend, right?” Hyunjin asked. “Wait. He was the one at the hospital who brought you food and your stuff the other day.”
“Yup.” You replied all too proudly. “The one and only, Seo Changbin. They’re evaluating his performance too, so this is definitely gonna be good.”
Needless to say, you were so proud to see Changbin perform in his full Phantom costume on stage, at one of the most famous concert halls in the city. The way his voice resonated throughout the venue was unlike what you have heard before. At the rehearsal the other day, he was not performing at his full capacity. But that evening, he took the opportunity to shine. Seo Changbin had finally unleashed his inner lion, as he completely took over the stage. That evening, you were more than certain that your best friend was on his path to fame.
With Lia as Christine, the two sang a beautiful duet that you were sure touched the hearts of many in the audience that evening.
Then, it was Seungmin who made an appearance on stage in his Raoul costume. You could only smile, as you remembered your story with him. It was a story of potential lovers, who missed the opportunity to confess their feelings for one another. With a dose of misunderstanding, everything fell apart.
You turned to look at Hyunjin, only to find that his eyes were already on you. With a quick tug, he pulled you close to him.
“Then say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime. Let me lead you from your solitude.”
Hyunjin sang along quietly so that only you could hear him. It was the first time that you have ever heard his singing voice and he was dedicating the song to you.
“Say you need me with you, here, beside you. Anywhere you go, let me go too.”
“We’re going to Vienna together, Hyunjin. I’m so excited.” You beamed.
“Y/N, that's all I ask of you.”
Your hands reached up to cup his face, responding with the next part of the song.
“Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime. Say the word and I will follow you. Share each day with me, each night, each morning. Say you love me…”
“You know I do.”
“Love me, that’s all I ask of you.”
The rolling timpani was followed by a crash of the cymbals at the peak of the musical. As if a signal, Hyunjin pulled you in and connected his lips with yours.
There could not be a better soundtrack for a movie than the instrumental that was playing in the background. Bang Chan had done a wonderful job at conducting the orchestra.
“Be my girlfriend?” Hyunjin asked, pulling back slightly.
“Of course.” You whispered against his lips.
With a tug on his tie, you leaned forward to kiss him again.

The ‘Even a Fool Knows’ Series.
Tumblr media
Even a fool knows it has to be you.
A series with love, told with the sweet hugs and kisses and the bitter break ups and ugly feelings attached.
“I really appreciated our time together, but I don’t think it’ll work out.” They say this on repeat.
A series of stories that tell us to continue to love. Series of stories that tell us to hate. Series of stories to tell us the imperfect corners. A series of stories that make us safe. A series of stories that tell us to go on even if we’re incomplete.
‘Ahem hi! Hello, uh I am the art director and writer of the movie project, ‘Even a fool knows’. On behalf of the whole team who planned the whole project, I would like to wish you all well as you watch our project for the 2022 movie festival contest. Beyond this clip, will be the start of the various stories that contain the themes of being deeply in love with someone, missing the person we love, and hating the person we love. Everyone gets a good chance to form a good relationship with someone, You may lose that chance and regret it later. You may have lost it but you may still realize you need it. It's to say that even a fool knows that you’re the only person I need. The stories try to express that it has to be you.’ Changbin sighed, content with the outcome of the video, a tight-lipped smile plastered on his face as he raised his hand to give the camera a small wave, ‘Thank you and I hope you enjoy the movie, With much love, From, group Stray Kids of Class 2 - B’ His final farewells led him to bow slightly at the camera as a sign of respect to the future judges to watch the project output. The boy then reached over to the camera, fumbling with the device in hand before the recording screen turned off with the lifeless black face of the camera.

Part 1
Part 2
Summary: Christopher Bang, hates literature but you’d find him in his room writing letters of care. Y/N, stuck in the spotlight yet so distant like a lighthouse in the middle of a growing thunderstorm. Two different souls stuck in two different worlds, no where near each other, yet bond over the topic of “coffee”. Coffee is coffee, hoping they’d realize that fact despite how different they taste like a caramel macchiato to an americano. A beauty it is to sit by at a coffee shop chatting until the sun rests, let’s hope they find themselves in that calm, serene environment one last time. Where nothing in the world mattered.

Summary: A certain art student fell for a med-student a year younger than him, being friends for as long as both of your college terms lasted, he found himself painting for every thought of you that passed his mind, planning on a confession with something you know was apart of his passion —his painting, he just wished he was a year earlier, maybe your heart would have a room for him too.

“Seungmin and Y/N, you’ll be shadowing these doctors for the next couple of weeks. Please try to get along...” Your professor gave you a pained smile, before handing you over to the two consultants in charge of monitoring your progress at the hospital. “Try to get along? Is there a rivalry that we should be concerned about?” The consultant gestured between you and Seungmin. “Oh, it’s nothing maj—“ You broke off as Seungmin cut in, “Long story short, we’re both the top students in our course, so sometimes our rivalry can get out of hand. But I can assure you, we won’t let anything interfere with the patient’s care.” “Well, I sure hope so. You guys are in the big leagues now— interning at an actual hospital. Any mention of your behaviour becoming the slightest bit unprofessional, and the two of you could fail this component of your course.” The consultant warned before taking you both on a tour of the hospital.
Tumblr media
“At the end of the day, I’ll need your progress reports and any paperwork regarding the well-being of your patients. Remember, quality over quantity. Try not to make a competition over the number of patients you see.” The consultant sighed before departing, leaving the two of you in the ER. “We’re going to ignore them, right?” Seungmin raised an eyebrow. You smirked, “You might need to but I don’t. Watch me see lots of patients and deliver them the best possible care.” Seungmin scoffed, before the two of you headed off in opposite directions, tending to as many patients as possible.
Tumblr media
“Noooooo I don’t want an injection!!” Timmy, the four-year-old patient you were placed in charge of, got out of his bed, running towards the door. “Please, Timmy, calm down!” You rushed towards him, catching him in your arms before he could run out into the corridor, “Should I sing a nursery rhyme? Twinkle twinkle little... what was it again?” You chased after the four year old, wrestling to place him back on his hospital bed. “Looks like you might need some help,” Seungmin smirked as he sidled up beside you. “He’s not your patient, he’s mine.” You said defensively, turning back to the screaming child, a forced smile etched upon your features. “Hmm... and look at how this is turning out for you? Come on. I bet I can calm him down and give him his injection way faster than you.” He looked at you mischievously. “...you’re on, Kim Seungmin.”
Tumblr media
[2 hours later] You slumped against the side of the bed lethargically, placing the fiftieth soft toy you could find on the hospital bed, “Please, Timmy. I’ve gotten all the toys you wanted. All of these soft toys will be there for you while you get your injection and afterwards.” You sighed, exhausted as the kid kept on crying. “What do you want, kid? Money? I’m a medical student, so I don’t have much. Is $20 enough? Thirty is as high as I’ll go.” Seungmin pulled out his wallet. You slapped his hand, “You can’t give money to a four-year-old. First of all, he’s a patient. Second of all, he’s four-years-old!” You looked at him incredulously. “It’s been two hours, Y/N. Where even are his parents? We’ve tried literally everything.” Seungmin sighed exasperatedly. “True...” You sighed, silence filling the room. You pondered for a bit, gasping as an idea struck you. “Well... we haven’t tried everything.” Your lips quirked up mischievously.
Tumblr media
“Just put it on so we can calm him down.” You said, tone monotonous. “This is degrading on so many levels,” Seungmin grumbled, placing the puppy ears on his head as you drew on his face. “Best possible care, remember?” You gave him a quick smile before pushing him back into the ward. “Timmy, there’s a very special... puppy here to see you! He’ll be here to comfort you while you get your injection.” You smiled, as Seungmin beamed at Timmy, sitting beside him on the hospital bed. Timmy sniffled, “Does Mr Puppy get scared of injections too?” “Oh, all the time! He’s just like you. But can I tell you a secret? Injections prick a little bit and then your arm feels fine afterwards! It’s just like a small and short amount of pain.” You reassured, preparing your needle as Timmy distracted himself with Seungmin, giving pats to his puppy ears. Seungmin looked at you, slightly uncomfortable. “Okay, Timmy! Are we ready? I’m going to count down okay? 3, 2, 1.” You looked at Seungmin as he distracted Timmy by playing peek-a-boo. He looks low-key adorable... You shook your head, pushing in the needle,  “Yay! It’s done! Good job, Timmy!” You beamed at the four-year-old, tucking him back into his bed. “Okay, good night, Timmy! Mr Puppy has to go now! I’ll see you tomorrow.” You waved, Seungmin at your heels. “Bye-bye, Mr Puppy.” He waved sleepily at the two of you as you exited the ward. “I think he exhausted himself from all that crying.” You noted. “He exhausted himself? I’m exhausted. I think I need a lollipop for how much energy I put into calming this one kid.” Seungmin said, slightly incredulous. “I can’t believe you offered him money.” You scoffed. “Says the one who got fifty stuffed toys from different patients and botched up singing nursery rhymes.” Seungmin retorted. “We don’t talk about any of that. Anyway, don’t you have anything better to do? You didn’t have to intervene with my patient.” You crossed your arms over your chest. “I— well... Your patient was screaming so loudly that it was impossible for both my patients and myself to focus.” Seungmin refuted, ears turning pink. “Whatever. I’ll take that as my victory, right? I believe it’s now 24-17? Let’s see, there’s only... an hour till our shift ends... tick-tock.” You smiled patronisingly at Seungmin before walking away.
Tumblr media
“Okay, Timmy! Now that you’ve recovered from your surgery, we can take a walk in the hospital gardens for a little bit.” You held out your hand to the little boy as he carefully hopped down from his bed. “Timmy, are you—“ Seungmin entered the room, looking up from his clipboard, as you buttoned up Timmy’s jacket. “What are you doing?” You asked, confused at his presence. “What are you doing?” He retorted, looking at you pointedly. “Taking care of my patient? Why do you keep trying to poach him from me?” You looked at him incredulously, placing Timmy’s hand in yours. Realisation dawned upon Seungmin’s features, “You know... I think the consultants heard about our... difficulties last time with Timmy and probably assigned him to both of us from now on.” “Ugh, it was probably from Dr Yoon — he hates us for some reason. Also, why didn’t you realise this when you found out that Timmy was your patient today?” You raised an eyebrow at Seungmin. “I just thought that they thought you were incompetent, which was why I, the more competent medical student of this cohort, was provided with this opportunity to show that to everyone... no offence,” Seungmin smirked slightly. “Okay, first of all, why are you so cocky? And second of all, adding ‘no offence’ at the end of your sentence doesn’t make your statement any less offensive.” You rolled your eyes. “Confidence is key. And, I wasn’t saying no offence to you, I was saying it to Timmy in case he thinks that he is just a mere opportunity to me— he is, but he’s my patient first.” Seungmin said a matter-of-factly. “Well now he’s our patient, so dial down on the ‘confidence’.” You scoffed, changing your entire demeanour as you turned to Timmy, “Shall we go outside now, Timmy?” You beamed. “Is Mr Puppy joining us too?” Timmy asked as Seungmin smiled at you victoriously. You sighed, exasperated,
“Yes, Mr Puppy will be joining us too...”
Tumblr media
You breathed in the cool air, placing your hands in your jacket pocket as you calmly observed Timmy skipping excitedly ahead of the two of you, “Who do you think would win in a fight against Jisung? Me or you?” Seungmin asked randomly. “Why do you ask that? Me, obviously.” You rolled your eyes at him. “You have no reasoning for that. See, I would say me for obvious reasons.” Seungmin said slightly smugly. You stopped, turning to face him, “Oh? And what might those be?” You raised your eyebrows at him. “Well, for one, I’m a lot taller than him, which means I can reach out further and hit him before he hits me. Also, since I’m taller, I don’t have to punch upwards, which means that less force is applied when Jisung punches because he’d have to punch upwards, whereas I’d basically be punching straight, making my punch more powerful...” Seungmin droned on, explaining his argument, leaving no room to rebut. “I guess there was a reason you were on the debate team for all of high school.” You gave him a forced smile. “Actually I started in middle school. Anyway, I guess that means that I win.” He smirked triumphantly. “Um, no, you haven’t heard my side of the argument. Honestly, to think you did debating all this time and you still don’t know the rules.” You pinched the bridge of your nose, exasperated. “Lets hear it...” “Well, first of all, let me just acknowledge your...”
Tumblr media
[45 minutes later] The two of you bickered, hospital staff and patients often stopping to stare at the two of you, as you continued, oblivious to the scene you were creating, “No. You know what— I think we need a mediator. Timmy, who do you think would win in a fight? Me or—“ You broke off, looking around frantically and stressing over the sudden disappearance of your patient. “Did you see where he went?” You asked Seungmin, giving him the side-eye as the two of you ran throughout the gardens calling his name. “Obviously not since I’m running around to find him too.” Seungmin rolled his eyes as he looked through a snow-blanketed bush. “Guess you’re not the “best medical student of our cohort”. You can’t even take care of a child.” You said slightly smug. Seungmin sighed, looking at you,
“Not now, Y/N. He’s our patient, so you’re basically insulting yourself — you can’t even look after a child.” “Are you saying that I’d be a terrible parent?” You gasped, offended. “Are you saying that I’d be a terrible parent? Wait— I never mentioned parenthood.” He retorted, eyebrows raised. “I— oh! Timmy! Why are you hiding behind the park bench? It’s cold outside.” You helped him out onto the path, brushing off any snow from his clothes. “You and Mr Puppy were fighting, so I got scared and ran away.” He said shyly. You shared a look with Seungmin,
“Fighting? Oh no, honey. We were just... talking loudly.” You gave him a reassuring smile, holding out your hand to him. “Please don’t talk loudly anymore.” Timmy sniffled. “We’ll try not to.” Seungmin smiled, taking Timmy’s other hand as you entered the hospital.
Tumblr media
“I smell... unprofessionalism.” Your consultant leaned back in their chair, sniffing disgustedly at the air, “I heard about what happened in the gardens today.” Your consultant leaned back in their chair, looking between Seungmin and you. “I promise you, it won’t happen again. And besides, Timmy was fine!” You spoke quickly. “And what if he wasn’t? We’d have a lawsuit on our hands. But above all, he’s your patient. He was placed under both of your care, and he deserves to be taken of to the best of your ability, regardless.” The consultant glared at the two of you pointedly. “We’re sorry.” Seungmin muttered, looking down. “Let me tell you this — this is a hospital. One of the most competitive workplace environments. I understand your competition with each other, but this is the real world, and in the real world there is no room for error. Especially when a patient’s life is at stake. All competition stops when we have to take care of our patients, since they are our top priority. I need you to reflect on whether they are yours?” The consultant raised their eyebrows as the two of you stood in stony silence. “Now, since the two of you can’t go without some sort of punishment, you’re going to have to get the paperwork from the receptionist at the ER and come back here to run through all of it. I want it done before 5pm.” The consultant tapped at their watch. “But the ER is on the other side of the hospital...” Seungmin noted. “So that means we only have... an hour to do all of this, on top of going there and back.” Your eyes widened. “Is that a problem?” Your consultant looked at the two of you pointedly. “No...”
Tumblr media
As you exited the consultant office, you looked at Seungmin as he stretched his legs and arms, jogging lightly on the spot, “What are you doing? It’s not like you’re preparing for a marathon.” Your nose crinkled in slight disgust. “You said so yourself that we had one hour to get these files and organise them. Unlike you, I want to show that I am a professional and gets things done on time even before my subordinates.” Seungmin monologued. “I— subordinates? We’re literally in the same year.” You scoffed, tying your shoelaces. “I may view you as lesser than me at times.” Seungmin said quickly before sprinting down the corridor, knocking over everything in his way. “Hey! Kim Seungmin!” You yelled, running after him.
Tumblr media
You panted, grabbing at the receptionist desk as you tried to catch your breath, alongside an equally as breathless Seungmin. “C-can I... okay wait a sec... can you please give us with the files the consultant wished for us to go through?” You asked, out of breath. “Actually, they heard of the mess you made when coming here, so that you both have to clean before you go through the files.” The receptionist gave you a forced smile before turning back to their computer. “How?” You looked at Seungmin incredulously. You shared a knowing look, “...Dr Yoon.” The two of you muttered. “Just take these for now.” The receptionist dumped two full cardboard boxes on the desk, paperwork overflowing from both. Seungmin inhaled sharply, “And when will the paperwork need to be done by?” “Well the consultant isn’t too mean, so it’ll need to be done before ten, seeing the amount of... mess the two of you made.” You plastered a fake smile on your face, begrudgingly taking the box, “Thank you, so much.” “It’s no problem, and hey, good luck with the papers.” The receptionist gave you a small smile before shooing the two of you away, boxes in hand. Cleaning with my rival. How fun. I swear the universe hates the two of us. Why are we always together?
Tumblr media
“Oh god, we made a huge mess.” You stared widely at the disastrous corridor ahead of you. Random chemicals were spilt on the ground, with IV drips entangled alongside other equipment scattered throughout the hallway. Wordlessly, Seungmin unlocked the supply closet, handing you a broom whilst he got the mop, not before placing the boxes down in the closet. “You should start on the glass so no one injures themselves and decides to sue the hospital for poor workspace conservation.” Seungmin snapped on gloves, mopping up the chemical residue. “Well, we are in a hospital of all places.” You pointed out humorously. Seungmin rolled his eyes, looking pointedly between the floor and your broom. “Fine...”
Tumblr media
As you cleaned in silence, you glanced over at a stony-faced Seungmin, What happened to him? Is he really that upset over what the consultant said? I thought he’d take it as feedback and move on. He doesn’t normally give up like this. Or let things like this phase him for that matter. He’s... admirable in that way. You shook your head in disgust, Ew ew ew, Y/N! I can’t believe I called him admirable.. he’s far from admirable. He’s a pain in my— “Y/N, are you done sweeping that one spot? You’ve been at that spot for the last five minutes. I’m pretty sure you’re just sweeping up air now. Can you help me put the cleaning things away?” Seungmin interrupted your thoughts, collecting up the appliances and heading towards the supply closet. “Oh yeah, I forgot that we left the boxes here.” You stepped into the closet, grabbing one box as Seungmin slipped in after you, turning his back away from the door... a clicking noise resounding in the confined space, the light leaving the room as the door locked shut, the rustling of keys heard from outside the door, carefree whistling following suit. Seungmin whipped around, trying to open the door, “The door’s locked!” “Uh, no duh. Someone’s locked us in, obviously... Who do you think it was? My guess is Dr Yoon.” You accused, running through a list of your potential enemies. “Or it’s our consultant wanting us to resolve all our issues before we go back to work.” Seungmin suggested, sighing as he sat against the door. “It’s... a possibility. Regardless, we should figure out how to get out of here. Do you have your keys or your phone?” You asked, mentally crossing your fingers that he did. “No, it’s in my locker. I’m assuming you don’t either since you asked me.” Seungmin sighed. “Ugh, you know, sometimes I wish you were some kind of mysterious bad boy that somehow did everything really well but also broke the rules for once.” You sighed exasperatedly. Seungmin shot you a disgusted look, “Are you saying that you don’t like me for who I am?” You coughed, “I don’t like you, full stop. Why do you think we have this rivalry? Because I’m some immature high school student that has a crush on you and is mean to you to hide my feelings? No.” Mhm, sure, Y/N... “It’s not like I knew we were going to be locked in a storage closet, anyway.” Seungmin said defensively. “We can’t even do paperwork since there’s no light and we have no device with light.” You complained. “Then let’s just sit and wait. I’ll listen by the door if I hear anyone pass by. Please don’t talk to me. I’m not interested in talking to someone who doesn’t like me at all.” Seungmin pressed his ear against the door. “Fine.” You crossed your arms over your chest, sagging back against the wall. This is going to be a long night...
Tumblr media
[3 hours later] “God, I can’t take this any longer! Stop sulking and talk to me. I don’t want to think about being trapped in this room with you any longer than I have to.” You exclaimed, Seungmin perked up, relief flickering in his eyes before moving to a more guarded expression. “Okay, well what do you want to talk about?” Seungmin asked drily. “I don’t know... how about we play 21 questions? You can start.” You suggested. “Fine. I will, even though it’s kind of dumb since I already know more about you than I’d like to. Don’t ask me why. What’s your favourite colour?” He asked, slightly bored. “If you’re bored by asking this question, how bored do you think I am by answering it? Your question was dumb. Mine’s [your favourite colour]. And I already know that yours is purple. Don’t ask me why, either.” You sighed. “Wow, okay. I’d like to see you come up with a more interesting question.” Seungmin said defensively. “Oh, watch and learn my... nemesis? Anyways, my question for you is, if you could have any other profession than this one, what would you have chosen?” You raised your eyebrow. “Oh... I’d be a lawyer... in particular, a prosecutor.” Seungmin said sheepishly. “Why?” You questioned. “The career itself interests me. The criminal justice system is as intricate as some of the cases a doctor would have to cure. The problem solving that goes into trying to figure out what actually happened in a case is the fun part. It’s kind of like solving a puzzle, because all of the pieces eventually will fit together as you piece more and more together from testimonies.” Seungmin explained, eyes lit up in excitement. “You are... really passionate about law. Why didn’t you choose to study that instead of medicine. They’re pretty much are the same in terms of prestige and salary.” You said, confused at his disposition. “I... don’t know.” Seungmin said tentatively, tone slightly confused. “Oh come on, you can tell me. What am I going to do? Use that against you? There’s literally no point of me doing that. Unless you did something really bad and wrong—“ Seungmin cut you off, interrupting you panickedly, “No, Y/N! I actually don’t know.” “You’re telling me that after all this time of having this passion, you haven’t once thought about why you selected a career path completely different to the one you wanted to pursue?” You asked incredulously. “Yes, Y/N. Can you please just not talk? I need to think.” He stood up, pacing the small space, occasionally tripping on things in his way. “Okay, Seungmin, where are you so I can slap some sense into you?” You stood up, holding your hands out tentatively to grab him. “I don’t want you to slap me!” He brushed your hands away, as you grabbed onto one of his. “I meant metaphorically. I’m not going to abuse you.” You rolled your eyes, “Look, I’m not saying this because you leaving would mean that I’m number one in this course. That would obviously be a bonus, but I’m saying this because I’ve known you for a really long time and surprisingly want the best for you. If you’re this passionate about law, you should study it. It’s not as if anyone’s going to complain if you switch, it’s an equally as admirable career option. I think you’ll enjoy it a lot more than medicine by the looks of it. You don’t want to live your life regretting your career options because someone asked you this question in a supply closet and you didn’t act on your uncertainty. You’ll never know unless you try.” A silence filled the room. Not long after the jingling sound returned from outside the door, bright light blinding you as the door opened, a woman screaming as she saw the two of you, Seungmin and you screaming back, confused,  “Oh my goodness. There you guys are! You do realise that you have an hour to do the paperwork, right?” The receptionist from earlier gasped, letting you out. Seungmin placed a hand on your shoulder, stopping you, “Thank you, Y/N. You know, sometimes you can be an intellectual.” “You really need to work on your compliments. Anyways, I’ll see you next week.” You smiled, heading towards the lockers.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, I just wanted to inform you of Seungmin’s departure from this course. And before you ask, yes that does mean that you are now officially first place. Congratulations!” Your consultant addressed you before shooing you out to do your work. First place, huh? Oh how the turn tables... I guess he really did take my advice. I’m flattered! I mean... why would I be flattered? I don’t care. Whatever. Hopefully he has fun at law school and whatnot, while I enjoy being first place!
Tumblr media
“Oh, Dr Yoon. Hello.” You stopped short, bowing your head slightly in acknowledgment. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t The Honourable First Place themselves? So how’d you get rid of him? Talked him to death?” Dr Yoon taunted. You rolled your eyes, sighing, “No offence Dr Yoon, but I don’t see how what Seungmin decides to do with his life is any of your concern.” Dr Yoon scoffed, “Someone’s defending their man.” “He’s not my— oh, you know what? Whatever. Have a good day, Dr Yoon.” You said passive aggressively, stomping out of the break room.
Tumblr media
“Nice work, Y/N! I can see why you’re number one.”
“Hey, Y/N. Can you get these x-rays done before eight?” “I heard that Seungmin’s gone. I guess I’m your new rival now.” The day passed by in a flurry, numerous doctors and nurses congratulating you... and delegating more work to you. Particularly, Seungmin’s workload. You weren’t complaining too much about the compliments, those were nice. It’s just that... work wasn’t as fun as it used to be with a certain someone present. The workload seemed to drag on, and on, your motivation lessening as time progressed. I wonder what Seungmin’s doing now. Probably living his best life and learning about lawyer stuff. He’s probably forgotten about me and this rivalry altogether... “Y/N! Are you coming with us for lunch. We wanted to congratulate you on your ranking!” “Coming...”
Tumblr media
You put on a smile as you entered Timmy’s room, “Mr Puppy, is that you?” Timmy called out from his bed. “No, sorry Timmy, it’s just me.” You gave him a small smile, checking his vitals. “Where is Mr Puppy?” He asked, wide eyed. “Oh... look, sweetie, Mr Puppy won’t be able to come to the hospital anymore because he’s... run away? Yeah, he’s run away.” You sighed, sitting on the plastic chair next to the bed. “Have you tried looking for him?” He looked to you, hopeful. “He’s just... I don’t think he wants to be found.” You sighed, slightly bitter. A silence filled the room, the two of you lost in your own thoughts. “I miss Mr Puppy.” Timmy said resolutely. “You know what Timmy, I can’t believe I’m saying this... but me too.”
Tumblr media
[21 Dec.] (You) I’m assuming you’re on break now? They aren’t giving us any breaks at the hospital because this is the busiest time, apparently - Christmas and New Years, that is >.< How’s your lawyer stuff going? Are you going to be a lawyer forever? [25 Dec.] (You) merry christmas! you’re probably too busy with lawyer stuff since you haven’t replied to any of my texts. That’s chill... you know, Timmy asked me if I could find Mr Puppy for him for Christmas. Not sure if you remember me or any of the things that went down when we were working together because you’re SO busy... just wanted to let you know :/ [26 Dec.] (You) I don’t understand how many people got candy canes stuck up god knows what. My shift on Christmas was probably one of the busiest shifts I’ve had ever!! The consultant says to wait until New Years Eve to make that call... [30 Dec.] (You) you know what? I give up. I’ve tried engaging in conversation but you’re not reciprocating at all. You can’t be THAT busy. I mean, you just started your law degree. Meanwhile, I’m working long hours at the hospital to cover for both of us... I hate this. Looking at your phone for the billionth time, you sighed, placing it back in your locker and throwing on your coat. The hospital was in disarray due to the spike in demand of the services in the last couple of hours. You had the night shift which was the busiest time, especially on New Year’s Eve. Not to mention that you had to do your usual rounds on top of helping out at the ER. You’d think that the hospital would be prepared for this. Weren’t they the ones that told me that New Year’s was busiest? Dumb mistakes, people getting drunk, etc. It’s so— “Y/N! We need you in the ER pronto!” The consultant stuck his head out of the door to the ER, yelling at you to come over, interrupting your internal monologue. What a way to start off the new year...
Tumblr media
Sighing, you watched as more patients poured in, many too drunk to remember anything they had done to end up in hospital in the first place, not helping with your diagnosis process at all. You finished up with your current patient, glancing at the crowd in the waiting room, eyes stopping as they drifted past a familiar figure — Kim Seungmin. Your heart leapt at the sight of him, even if he was more or less dragging his friend (?) into a wheelchair in the least graceful way possible. If dragging someone into a wheelchair could ever be considered graceful in the first place. He dropped his friend in the wheelchair, wide-eyed, making their friend wince from the impact, he looked at them pityingly before meeting your eyes. “Y/N! Stop gawking at the patients and actually start helping them! God, we don’t have enough staff for this.” Dr Yoon yelled at you. Not enough staff, you say... You grabbed a spare coat from the receptionist desk, “Hey, Kim Seungmin! I know you’re some fancy law student at the moment, but we need your help! The hospital’s super short staffed right now, so it’s all hands on deck.” You ran towards him, chucking him the spare coat before pointing him towards the mess of an ER. He placed his hand on your arm, ignoring the beat of your heart, you looked up at him, “Hey, for old times sake, how about we have a competition?” He suggested, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. “Number of patients? You’re on.” You grinned, rushing towards the masses with him, feeling excited towards your job for the first time in a whlile..
Tumblr media
“And that was 34-27. I win, yet again. You know, I always wondered why you were first place when I always won against you in these competitions.” You observed, sighing as the two of you walked through the hospital corridor. “This has nothing to do with performance in exams. Besides, you should know this by now, I—“ You halted him, stopping at the children’s ward, “I’m not sure if you got my texts but Timmy’s really missed you. I don’t really understand why, to be honest. You’re not really that missable but—“ He ignored you, entering Timmy’s room. “Mr Puppy!” Timmy exclaimed joyfully as Seungmin beamed at him. “Timmy, you’re still awake? This late in the evening?” You raised an eyebrow expectantly at him, leaning against the door frame. “I wanted to stay up till the fireworks!” He responded honestly. “Didn’t a nurse come in and watch the 9:00 fireworks with you?” You asked. “It’s fine, Y/N. He’s old enough to decide these things on his own.” Seungmin gave you an amused smile as Timmy sat up straight, nodding seriously at Seungmin’s words. “I also wanted to watch them with you and Mr Puppy, but the nurse said that you were too busy.” Timmy pouted, your heart lurching at his words. “Aww, well, Timmy, since we’re here now, we can stay with you, but not to watch the fireworks, because you should sleep. But Mr Puppy and I can read you a bedtime story if you’d like... and I’ll be here when you wake up in the new year. I promise.” You smiled, approaching the hospital bed. “What about Mr Puppy?” He looked expectantly at Seungmin. “Oh no, honey—“ “I’ll be there. I promise.” Seungmin connected his pinky with Timmy’s. You looked at him confusedly as Seungmin pulled out a children’s book and began to read. He looked at you expectantly, gesturing for you to sit next to Timmy. You sat down, thoughts racing, What does he mean by he’ll be there?
Tumblr media
“I think he’s asleep now.” Seungmin quietly shut the book, leading the two of you outside into the corridor. “What time is it now?” “Five minutes to midnight.” Seungmin said a matter of factly, checking his watch. “Okay, question. What do you mean you’re going to come back tomorrow?” You crossed your arms over your chest, looking at him expectedly. “I mean, I’m going to come back tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that. Basically permanently because I’m studying medicine again.” He gave you a small smile. “What do you mean you’re studying medicine again? What happened to pursuing your dreams and studying law?” You asked incredulously. “Frankly, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Besides, our professor told me to try it out for a week and then actually consider changing. So I was technically still studying medicine. Also, in that week, I had to help Jisung with a lawsuit, which took up all of my time, hence, why I couldn’t respond to any of your texts because he ended up throwing my phone out... it’s a long story. Anyway, that put me off law altogether.” He explained. “Yeah... I can understand why that put you off.” You nodded. “And... there was one other factor preventing me from pursuing law.” Seungmin said tentatively. “Oh? What’s that?” You asked, heart rate quickening. “You.” He pulled you close, looking at you for permission as you nodded, capturing his lips with yours. As people chorused happy new year throughout the hospital... and being told off by consultants for being too loud, Seungmin pulled back, leaning his forehead against yours. “Y/N, you keep me motivated and the time I spent away from you made me realise how much I need you in my life. Every day I spend with you goes by so quickly because you always keep me on my toes... and you’re the only person that can match me in a battle of the wits.” You smiled at his last sentence, bringing him into a hug, before quickly releasing him. “Well, if it wasn’t clear from the kiss, I like you too. However, that’s the least of my concerns... now that you’re back, what does this mean for my ranking?” You asked, wide eyed. “I think I’d still be in first? Technically I never stopped doing this course.” Seungmin said, confused. “What? No. You can’t be first. I’m first. The consultant congratulated me.” You denied. “I guess you’re just going to have to defeat me again, Supreme Ruler Of Second Place.” He teased, dropping a kiss on your forehead before running to the ER. “Kim Seungmin, God so help me. I will beat you this year!”

You run to him with a first aid kit in hand. You know– now– that the pain is chronicle at this point, but if there are a few things you can do to make him more comfortable, you will. Hyunjin is waiting for you when you get to the boys building.
“Thanks,” You say and smile nervously. You are not sure what his friends think of you after all you put Felix through.
“You’re welcome.” He mumbles and looks down to the ground. You both get to their dorm, and he points to the last room to the right. “That’s Felix’s. He’s waiting for you.”
You nod and, without knocking, let yourself inside, only to see the saddest image you’ve ever seen. Felix, laying down on his bed, right foot propped up with a couple of pillows, and a single tear running down his freckled cheeks.
“Lix,” You whisper, rushing to his side, gently touching his shoulder so that you don’t scare him. After a couple of years treating him, you’ve gotten to know how jumpy he is, especially when he’s nervous. “What’s happening?”
“Hurts.” He says, voice strained. “So much.”
Jumping into action, you open the aid kit, grabbing the heating pads; you gently roll his pants up his leg, and stick it to his ankle– one to the front, another to the back. A minute passes and only when Felix lets out a sigh of relief, you feel like you can breath again.
“Heat is good for chronicle pain,” You say moving from the floor to his bed, slowly raising his head from the pillow, crawling in that tiny space against the wall, and letting his head rest on your lap. You were uncomfortable and restricted in the small space you had, but it was worth it if it mean you were close to Felix again.
“Stop stalling, Y/N.” He sighs. Y/N, not Bunny. “Just… hit me with it.”
“I like you,” And for a second you think you might have actually hit him, because his eyes go wide and he starts coughing like crazy.
“Oh my god, Felix, are you okay?”
His whole face is red, and he is doing his best not to move too much because of his head on you and his foot on the pillows. “I-I’m fine!” He mages to get out. “I’m just really c-confused.”
“It’s okay,” You chuckle, running your fingers through his hair. You allow your eyes to roam free, memorizing every single aspect of his; the freckles, the long lashes, the bow lip. You are finally giving into your desire: Felix. “I’m confused too. Not about this, though, I’m pretty sure I like you. A lot. Felix, stop looking at me like that– no, I mean it. I like you. And I know I fucked up; it’s pretty obvious, but I never really lied. I omitted. And I’m sorry for doing so, okay? I just felt like I was wasting your time, and it turned out I was wasting mine, too.”
“What do you mean?” Felix asks, turning his head to look up at you.
“I knew you liked me for a while,” You say, embarrassed to finally say it out loud. He gasps and looks at you with such wide eyes you almost cooed. “I’m sorry, but I just… I was so focused on studying and working and studying again that I felt that I’d have time for you after. I was comfortable, and I’m sorry, Felix, I really am. I knew that you liked me and I liked you too, but I just felt like it was better and safer to keep you as a friend, knowing that you’d always be there, right next to me. I’m done with that, though, and I hope I’m not too late… I want to risk it, if it’s with you. Knowing that you were hurt was almost like an epiphany for me; I felt so incredible guilty knowing that you spent all that time running after me– as bad as that sounds– when you could’ve been doing things you really love! You could’ve been playing soccer with Sunwoo, or having fun with Minho at the cat cafe, or even bike riding with Seungmin!”
It all comes out in a series of rushed, barely audible words, but you know he’s heard you. He has a smirk on his face and he sits up, moving his whole body to face you, eyes focused on yours. His face comes really close to yours, and he whispers, “But I was.”
“What?”
“I was doing what I really love.” He says.
“Felix…” You whisper.
“What?”
“Kiss me.”
“Now I’m doing whom I love.”
“Yah, Lee Felix!” You shout and kiss him right away, laughing in the middle of lips, and tongues, and teeth. It was messy, probably wrong, and lacking technique. But it was perfect because it was Felix, with his stupid memes and his stupid freckles and his stupid nibbles on your lower lip, and you swore to yourself you'd pull away in a second– but a second turned into a minute, and a minute turned into ten, and ten minutes turned into a very traumatized Hyunjin screaming through the apartment.

foul play // ten : doing what I love
pairing: soccer player!felix x med student!reader
genre: college!au, fluff
description: They met through a mutual friend and that was the start of it all; Felix’s one sided crush and Y/N’s constant worry. The boy, a right forward player, was known in the field as one of the best players in the game; and also known in the hospital as one of the clumsiest. Y/N worked at the nurse office as part of her on-campus residency and believe it or not, the nurse office has its regulars, and Lee Felix was one of them. Sprained ankle, broken wrist, two concussions, and yet, he never takes a break. Until Y/N stepped in.
