On the road South out of Yellowstone, one follows a deep canyon straight into Grand Teton, another of the excellent National Parks in the United States. Although infamous for its continent-defining mountain landscape, Grand Teton is also a hotbed of alpine valleys and meadows and is home to an astonishing array of wild flowers and accompanying butterflies. Gustav Klimt inspired Mural a Field of Poppies 1907 🌳🌸🌺🌸🌳 The original painting by Gustav Klimt had been painted on location whilst he spent the summer months at Lake Attersee. He was influenced by the lush green and floral meadows abundant with poppies. Gustav was known to have brief moments of painting landscapes away from his usual Symbolism portrait paintings. This particular piece was painted during his Golden phase where he was located at Lake Attersee feeling inspired by his emotions and the lush landscapes he focused on these to bring about feelings of positivity by appreciating the nature he was surrounded by. The painting representing a wide meadow that flows to the horizon giving a feeling of depth a feeling as though you could be stood on the landscape. He brought this together with hints of the Impressionist style and spongy textured trees but with a twist of his own realism style. I love this technique used by Klimt and have to come realise it not to dissimilar to my own landscape paintings you may notice a hint of this in the mural and my own landscape paintings. Such as Sunset at Wingfield Manor and Sunset over Riber Castle.
