I always say MLP is two different fandoms: collector fandom and Brony/FiM fandom. Because when I went to the Maryland Pony Meet this year, it was mostly collectors who grew up with the g1 toys. A majority of the vendors were selling the toys. ALL generations of MLP represented! Meanwhile, when I went to Bronycon in 2019: mostly cartoon fans with little interest in the toys or the previous generations. The vendors were made up of mostly fan merch with the occasional booth selling the toys. Majority G4 with the occasional previous gen fan merch and booth selling G1-G3 toys.
It's a split that absolutely FASCINATES me!
the most jarring fact I've had to deal with since getting into mlp is how many people in the fandom aren't really toy collectors at all and don't know that much about the industry and that side of things. They're just here for the media and the lore
Maybe this is more common for "boy" media, but its usually the opposite for most doll fandoms I've been in/know of. I remember in 2014 struggling to find more than like, 10 MH collectors who cared about the cartoon and not just the dolls (at least enough to talk about it with me). I know a lot of people (including me) who collect Rainbow High but don't watch the cartoon, and so on like that
just a bit of a culture shock I guess.
#I love MLP:FiM and collected the toys for years but I definitely lean more towards G1-G3 collector#since those gens got me into MLP in the first place. It was WILD to watch the fandom split in real time!

hi everypony, mod kaboodle here!
my pronouns are he/she/they and i'm 22 years old!
my favourite generation is G1 but i love all ponies! i have too many favourites to list, but some ponies special to me include G1 gingerbread, G3 skywishes and G1 sprinkles!
my main art blog is @katkitters and you can find my other links and some art examples on my carrd! i currently don't have commissions open but i will update this post whenever that changes!
i've had a special interest in MLP since i was 3-4 years old and have always had a passion for collecting G1 ponies in particular! i went from a G3 collector to a multigen collector when i got my first G1 pony as a birthday present - moonstone!

Amigo! I come with a random questions! Do you actually have a TFP Optimus figure? (They're so rare 😭😭) Do you have any Transformer figures? Can we see them if so?
Have a wonderful day ♥️
I DO!!!! I HAVE MANY!!!
I'll share the Grand Tour of all my silly robot collection because I got the tism,
These are my TFP figures from the R.E.D. line. Arcee and Knockout were my first transformers figures ever and I stalked the Hasbro Pulse site for a YEAR waiting on TFP Optimus and Megatron. They're fairly affordable and retailed for $25 each. I bought my Optimus and Megatron from Big Bad Toy Store online so if you want a reliable seller for not a high markup price I totally recommend grabbing them there.
These are some random Optimus's I've gotten over the years, from left to right I have a RID Optimus my brother gave to me, a Flame Toys Furai (I think) G1 Optimus model kit I found in a hobby lobby, a Rise of the Beasts Optimus I snagged while in Ohio, and an Orion Pax figure my dad bought me.
This shelf has the most recent additions, left to right I got the Earthspark Optimus while I was in Florida this past week, the fig pin in a V-Stock, the other Optimus on top of the Funko I ALSO in Florida this past week, the Funko Pop from my brother yesterday, the worlds smalled Optimus from a toy store, and the MLP Optimus on EBay.
Here I have my beautiful girl Windblade I also got from EBay.
Signed illustration by the artist my dad bought me.
The Fanhome Optimus that I get new parts for every month.
AAAAAAND THE IRON WARRIOR TFP OPTIMUS THAT IVE PREORDERED YIPPIEEEEEEE!!
I love info dumping about my poor financial decisions TYSM. Other collections I have include some shadow high dolls and my obscene G3 MLP collection but those are adventures for another time. But otherwise I am planning on resin printing that TFP Soundwave model that's going around (waiting on the resin to come in) and I'm cosplaying Optimus for an anime convention I'm going to soon! Which will be the Bishoujo figure's outfit and I'll 3d print his helm to wear so YAY! I go to college this fall and I'm planning on bringing all my Optimuses for my dorm lmao so I'll probably share that adventure when decorating my dorm (also found an Optimus twin bed set 👁️👁️).
So yay! Hope you enjoyed the tour!

can I just say that I LOVE that you post all these old MLP collection pictures! I remember a lot of them from back in my flickr days, it's so great to see surprise ponies on my dash. love this blog in general but what a nice serendipity :)
haha, it’s because I’m a collector myself (g3 & g1) so the pictures are actually like inspiration for my own collection. and also nostalgia specifically with the g3 since I grew up with it. I’m glad at least some other people except me like it, I know it’s kind of a niche thing when I post toys and such lol

while we're on the subject of collections, here's all of mine! featuring ponies, the last unicorn, pokemon, and etc
these are my G4s and G3 favorites, all this stuff is crammed onto my one desk so it's not the most ideal for now lol. There are many more brushables but they just don't fit
right above those is my etc tier, mostly dragons and a couple Scar related things, adventure time, and LPS (more pending once I can find the rest)
the top tier featuring all my godzillas minus the 3 foot long giant one! in front with the chicken feather is 2014 goji, in the back with pinkie pie is 2019. you can also see Deet from dark crystal: age of resistance (highly recommend, it's on netflix but only has one season since it got cancelled in true netflix fashion), as well as my buddies Amelia and Rom from bloodborne, and the pyramid is a beetle my grandfather encased in resin back in the 80s for unknown reasons. on the wall to the left is a newspaper clipping of an ad for godzilla vs mothra from the 50s!
more ponies incoming, these are all my G1s, my changeling collection (still growing, I want an entire swarm), my mostly finished customs, and my Tabitha St. Germain corner to the right with Minty and Ditzy! In the back is the D&D/mlp collab figures. The sign on the wall I found at a thrift store and it says "horses gather here" lol
my last unicorn collection! this is the collection I'm most proud of, the displayed one to the right is a first edition I snagged for $70. The only editions I have left to collect are the super expensive deluxe/limited version (which just got harder thanks to Suntup releasing three VERY expensive special editions this year), but some of you will remember I did get super lucky earlier this year and unknowingly got a limited print, signed edition of the lost version for $3! so altogether I think the collection is worth around $1300
my pin collection! <3 some are in a display box and some are on my go bag so this isn't everything. the keychains are from my personal shop, a couple con badges I got in a merch trade (which I'm always open for if anyone's interested! I trade merch or art).
last one for now, this is the first page of my card collection! I'm not gonna show images of them all but these are the cool guys, I got these guys in a full 1996(? whenever the first printing was) japanese display box back when I was 15 for about $25, so that was quite the massive steal. These are technically leftovers, I've got all 3 starter evos and mewtwo in acrylic cases to display, and these guys are all double sleeved haha. I've got a lot of MTG cards as well but they're all in deck being used (if anyone else is into magic the gathering, do talk with me about it, I freaking love magic hahaha)
#my posts#my stuff#I'll get some better pictures whenever we're able to move and I have a better setup

So I watched the Monster High season two finale today and I loved as usual! Lot of great character moments in there, more world building, Clankie bits and just overall fun this version of the franchise has become known for.
As a season finale it's great! As a series finale...well I guess it was better than the way MLP G5 ended. Less abrupt at least.
But still I can't help but feel mad about the whole situation! Nickelodeon definitely mishandled this show by making a seasonal thing. As I said before, I get what they were going for but that just doesn't work for a series! Movies, yes! Series, no!
I also can't help but feel that the inclusiveness & representation is a BIG part of what might have gotten it cancelled. We saw that happen with The Owl House over on Disney. It doesn't matter how popular the show is or how much money it's making, if some bigoted executive doesn't like it, it's gone.
And that's a damn shame cause we NEED cartoons like this right now. To show all the queer kids and the outcasts that they're not alone. That they are loved and have people who will love them. It's a damn shame so many dumbfucks are against that.
It hits hard for me personally though because not only did G3 quickly become my comfort show but it's what got me into Monster High in the first place. I had always been aware of Monster High & was curious to check it out but never really got around to it. I did buy one DVD collection of the shorts back in 2017 & I liked it. But for whatever reason I just never felt the need to really watch it.
Then G3 came along with it's RELENTLESS advertising for the live action movies on Pluto TV! I'm pretty sure half of why I checked it out is cause "The Three of Us" got stuck in my head thanks to those commercials!
So, yeah, the live action stuff is what finally got me interested in it and before I watched that I watch Adventures of the Ghoul Squad on Amazon Prime. So if you ever wonder why I defend G2 so much, that's why. It was really my first one. Then after watching the movie I found a 6 hour compilation of the G1 shorts on YouTube & said, "Screw it, let's do this!"
And I just fell down the rabbit. After watching the shorts I tried to watch the movies but of course now they were all paywalled. At the time, I didn't think I cared enough to buy them all & now I own them all on either digital or DVD. Some both!
So, yeah, I hyperfixated. As I am want to do. To the point where I watched Ever After High well and like that one too!
All because of Monster High G3. Which, by the way, is why old timers in fandoms REALLY need to lighten up about the current version of their franchise. New versions and changes ARE good cause they can bring in new fans! Everything can't be the same all the time! If the whole franchise is good enough, people WILL go back & watch the older stuff! So calm the fuck down!
Now as for what's gonna happen to G3, I can't say. I REALLY hope some miracle happens and it gets renew for a third season here real soon. But if not I hope it can continue in the form of either web shorts on YouTube, DVD movie releases or a comic from IDW. Or all of that ideally! Either way, these ghouls have worked their way into my heart & I will be here for the next step in the journey for whatever that may be.
As for the G3 TV series, all I can say is thank you and...

I saw someone say "literally name anything about G2" and okay here I go.
it's like G3 with yassification. Everything is magic- the beds fly, their gardens have multiple stories even though it's outdoors, everypony is a princess. They have crystals in their eyes, they swap tails- when you make them kiss each other, they whisper "I love you". Gay as hell (<-positive)
There was like one maybe two Unicorns (major L), and no Pegasus- because some ponies came with fucking fairy butterfly wings. And you could just put those bitches on anything. Any pony could have wings as long as you had the accessory.
The art direction is so specifically 90s in my head, it took the liminality and drama from G1 and began to glamorize the ponies even more (sculpts, crystal eyes, a lot ponies have outfits). The sculpting design and direction for the playsets and accessories looks otherworldly despite being so very recognizable to me- they're inherently uncanny, but tinker with hyper feminization. It's all slightly off, but that's what draws me in (someone who didn't grow up with MLP toys, but found an interest later on)
It's a shame there was practically nothing media wise because this was so iconic. Their biggest flops are the lack of interesting molds and the weird romantic couple packs. I don't think G2 is perfect, there's some major Ls in there.
the reason I don't enjoy G2 as much is because of a lack of content, and accessibility. I still love G1 and G3 quite a bit more right now because, I have more interest in collecting them (but that could change)

I don’t mean to be rude, but did you just grab anything mlp off the shelf and buy it? Bc that’s a lot of sealed toys 👀
Yeah lol
Really though, for context. I bought a G3 pony in 2013 when I lived in Beijing. I found it in a marker and just... I dunno, I felt something really special. And then FiM was super popular then and I had started watching it before i even left for china, like, 2011 or 2012 or something. And I went with my first real boyfriend and blablabla I met him at 17 and he was 25 and I thought it was love or whatever and so when he broke up with me I was just. Devastated. Worst period of depression in my life. One night I was sobbing and wailing in bed so badly a neighbor banged on the wall and told me to shut up.
I also didn't have any friends and wasn't speaking to my parents and I was living alone and making decent money and had just. No hobbies or interests. I didn't do anything. I decided I wanted to collect ponies so. I did. I just bought everything. And yeah tbh at the time it felt good and I thoroughly enjoyed owning them at the time. I don't regret buying them or anything. It's just been a decade now and I'm ready to move on and let them go, and focus on things I care more about now.
Also I didn't get rid of ALL my horses. I left all my favourites in my room to reorganize later! I still have most of my G1 ponies, all my G2 ponies, my favourite G3 ponies, and my favourite G4s! I kept a brushable of all of them mane 6 and several other faves. All my nightmare moons and Lunas. And all my Equestria girls minis, all of my welovefine figures, my sdcc vinyl scratch, my Funko pop vinyl figures.
If you've seen photos of my tf collection you'll see it's almost entirely loose figures lmfao. I prefer loose. Strongly prefer loose. But my horses like. At this point some are too valuable to even consider opening LOL

G3 Hair Salon
My Little Pony G3 Toys Hair Color Matching Guide - Work in Progress
About This Project
There is a great wealth of information on G1 ponies' hair, but not so much the generations that have come since. Because I collect G3s, and because G3s are in dire need of such research online due to hair disintegration syndrome (hair loss), I decided I would start cataloging what I know.
How to Help
If you'd like to submit some color matching information, please provide a photo of the G3 pony in question next to another G3 pony, a G1 pony, and/or loose nylon hair meant for toy restoration.* Please specify what lighting conditions the photo(s) are taken in if possible - for example: outdoors, by a sunny window, with camera flash on, indoor lighting, etc.
*Meaning others can find the exact shade for sale and can currently purchase it. The reason it has to be nylon is because MLP hair is usually made of nylon, so it's the most true-to-original hair to use for restoration, and it is not known to break, dissolve, or fall out over time in most cases.
About This Blog
The purpose of this blog is to archive photos from the project, taken by either myself or any generous helpers! I may post updates or text guides as well to keep the whole project in one place. I will do my best to only use current information and to credit anything sourced from elsewhere online.
About The Author
I'm Lee or Birdie! (he/him, in my 20s, American) I'm an MLP collector, fan artist, amateur toy restorer, and customizer. My favorite gens are G1 and G3.
You can find me at MLP Trading Post as Quackers, my main blog @animated-statue, and animatedstatue on Instagram.

Nobody has really asked but I just really, REALLY wanted to post my MLP collection :)
Apologies not the best photos, but fun fact a lot of my G3 ponies were from my childhood! (Minus almost all the unicorns except lily, same w/ pegasi but I had star catcher, honolu-loo and heart bright for a very long time, and also skywishes i never had her as a kid???) G1 and G2 I only started really collecting a few months ago since I really got back into MLP, I've had a huge halt on doll collecting since I cannot display them in my current living situation (rental, not a lot of space so they're just in storage😔) but I can at least display and enjoy ponies which has been incredibly joyful for me💜 I've also gotten plushies and other MLP merch but I didn't feel the need to photograph them for this. Alongside buying new ponies I never had, been buying myself ponies and sets I've always wanted and buying ones I did have as a kid but my parents had gotten rid of long ago. Cotton Candy Shop is one and I have Twinkle Twirl's Dance Studio in transit :)

I would like to thank you for alwats making my day! Mlp is one of the things that make me happy and calm, and I have recently started expanding my collection, and now have a load of G3's and G4's.
So I have 1 question:
Which generation is your favorite, and why? 🦄
Thank you so much! I love MLP too! <3
My favorite gen is G1 because I grew up with it. The baby ponies were my favorites! I had Baby Moondancer, Cuddles from the Baby Buggy, Baby Heart Throb, Baby Lickety-Split, and Baby Bouncy.

Do you collected G1 and G2 ? And, do you collect any other toys besides MLP
I will gladly grab G1s or G2s if I see them in flea markets/ thrift stores (as long as they're not overpriced), but I usually don't haunt for them like I do for G3. I'm more of a MIB collector and I'd looove to get an all new G1 or G2 but that would be too expensive for me -_-
Besides MLP, I collect pokémon stuff (cards, plushies, DOL soda, figures, and games). I have a few MIB barbies too...that's about it!

Hi, can you help me? I really like my little pony dolls and ive been wanting to start a collection of all the generation four gals if I can (i would settle for the mane 6 and a few others), however i have no idea where to start or how to find any, and on amazon i have only find weird knockoffs that have hard silicon hair. I also want to have an archive of all thr launched dolls, both mlp and equestria girls, but again, i have no idea how to research or really do any of this, do id really really like some pointers, or if you dont have any, for you to point me to someone who does.
Hi! Oh gosh, sorry for the late reply!! I'm not great about checking my Asks, and I only seem to get notifications for messages about half the time! >.>
So... it's a funny thing! Because when I was building most of my early collection in the early 2000s, the way to do it was to buy big eBay lots, and sell/trade any extras you didn't want from there. But now with eBay prices skyrocketing, and more folks getting into collecting/flipping pony lots, prices are all over the place - mostly ridiculously high.
Prices for G4, at least, seem to still be pretty low! More people are selling than buying. So if you're looking for G4 ponies, I highly recommend looking for eBay lots. I've still gotten some good deals there, even on harder-to-find ponies like G4 Minty. There's a fair amount of people just flipping them from the thrift, or selling childhood/post-fandom collections, so you can get good prices for them still. (G1 is less so! And G3 seems to be creeping up as well.)
I also suggest Mercari! Mercari is, unlike Facebook pickups, generally assumed to be for mailing items, so although there's some stiff competition, you can still find good deals! You can use that as an app or on their website! (If you are good at IRL stuff, you could always try the thrift stores yourself, or try local flea markets/toy fairs/Facebook sales! G4 is plentiful among toy collectors, especially those who trade secondhand, and you might be able to get some deals!)
I'm curious about what hard silicon hair ponies you're finding! I took a quick look, and I think you may be seeing the Ponyville/blind bag figures, which are minis. When I look on Amazon I still see some G4 stuff, but it's mostly 3rd party sellers, so it's very expensive. I still scroll through the Amazon Warehouse from time to time - you won't find older ponies, but if there's any newer releases you like, they may have those a little cheaper with a banged-up box! I found a cool Cutie Mark Crew set for $6 on there recently!
The most well-organized and comprehensive site, at least for the first few years, was Strawberry Reef (here's her release list by year), but I believe she fell behind in the past few years, since it only goes up to 2013. (She may have skipped G4 in favor of G4.5? I see links for G5 stuff there now.) MLP Merch is keeping up admirably, but I'm not sure if they have a chronological guide. There may also be some stuff in the various MLP wikis, but I haven't done a lot of research on that yet!
I suggest eBay by and large, but I also suggest checking out the MLPArena - it's one of the last remaining pony forums, and there's still folks selling and trading there! MLPTP is also still going, but they seem to be less busy than the Arena. I'd suggest Facebook, but the crowd there is Real Bad, and a lot of the folks who've become popular there were previously banned for being scammers on the forums. So if you join MLP groups there, be wary, and pay very strictly with Paypal goods/services - no friends/family, no Facebook pay. (Neither will give you ANY level of buyer protection!) There was once a feedback group for Facebook, but it turned out that it was run by some of the same scammers who got banned from the forums.
I'm trying to think of what else to say - I've found some nice and cheap G4 ponies on instagram flash sales, and I've also found some overpriced G4 ponies there! It really just depends on who's selling and how popular/packed their sales are. Jupiter.magia, for example, is a very popular, friendly seller; I got some great basic G4 ponies from her! But her sales posts would get claims within like .05 seconds. Ditto for Kristwoforks, a popular thrift reseller. She does a lot of sales, and has a LOT of fans! (And then of course, there's the classic "super popular seller who everyone loves but will occasionally scam people out of their items and attack anyone who speaks up", which I've personally run into in the past, as well as witnessed my friends get scammed by multiple Big Names.) Instagram, sadly, isn't a real sales platform, so there's no protection if things go south; your only recourse is through Paypal, and there's no real way to leave feedback, so scammers thrive there, as they do on Facebook. You have to be very careful and mindful of your claim deadlines, so I generally warn beginning buyers away from there until they gain a little more experience, and can pick up when someone's giving off bad vibes. I've found most of my IG buys from people I follow; they'll say, 'oh I got this last week from X!' so I'll go follow X's page for their next sale; or Y will get their sale post boosted on my friend's story, so I'll go check them out too. It's much safer IMO to find sellers by this sort of word-of-mouth, because then you know someone who had at least one good interaction with them.
I gave you a LOT of information here, ha ha, but I'm doing my best to be comprehensive! You've decided to collect G4 at a very good time, because with the end of the series, folks are losing interest, and selling off their collections. Not everyone of course, but quite a few! I wish you the best of luck in your future collecting adventures! And feel free to pop back around if you get stuck or have more questions!

I care :)
do you really want to hear my thoughts on plastic horses for toddlers. do you. well my hot take is that the g1 and g3 mlp toys are really good, g4 started out good but progressively got worse, and i dont really like the g5 stuff so far
the main thing that i think the old toys did better was having more variety with the characters. the older gens had hundreds of different ponies to choose from, there were a few ponies who got released more than once but it was fine because there were still so many others to choose from. there were plenty of toys that had animated counterparts which was cool but there were also a lot of characters who only appeared as toys which added more variety.
g4 started like that too, but eventually they just. stopped. and started releasing the same characters over and over again. which sucked for kid me because the whole appeal of my little pony was collecting a bunch of different characters, i was satisfied with just one toy of each pony that i liked. i honestly wanted the random background ponies or toyline only ponies way more than i wanted the newest pinkie pie re release that was covered in glitter this time or whatever. i didnt need or want 5 twilight sparkles but i still to this day have like 5 twilight sparkles because they kept re releasing her packaged with other stuff i actually wanted
the variety thing isnt the Only reason i think this and i also have Thoughts on the playsets not just the ponies themselves but im gonna stop here because i dont want this to be too long </3
#edit i also just remembered that the older gens have a bunch of different poses and all of the g4s are Just Standing There#another issue i have is that i think that the ponies have dropped in quality over the generations tbh#and i also think that the older ponies just look better but that might be nostalgia talking#also im exclusively talking about the toys in this post. i may not like the g5 toys but i love the g5 movie#anyway i think part of whta caused the variety problem is like#the older cartoons seemed to exist to promote the toys but nowadays the toys seem to exist to promote the cartoons#so they dont just. release a bunch of cute original designs anymore they just make the popular characters from the cartoons over and over#because they want you to watch the cartoons/movie/whatever it is theyre making at the time#also again. i have no opinion on g2. it is the only generation i was not exposed to as a child#and i still havent seen enough g2 stuff to form an opinion on it. but i dont hate it or aynything#asks#anyways if you told me as a toddler than i am still talking about these damn horses over 10 years later#i dont know if i would believe you but here i am embarrassing myself online regardless
