Your post about the main questline made me think about Jay in the institute. (I'm sorry if this has been asked before) but is there anything in the institute related to Jay and plants/his 🌻-ness? I recall the apes, but weren't there also plant biology labs there?
I'm pretty sure all the plant experiments in the Institute were food related, as far as I know
Jay's sunflowerness came from a Vault-Tec experiment before the war! Pretty much, the scientist who were working on drafting up the experiments they'd be carrying out in Vault 22 had wondered if they could possibly use some plant's abilities to absorb and turn radiation into food to make humans resistant/benefit from exposure to radiation.
I chose sunflowers for a number of reasons- aesthetic, their use in removing radiation from the soil/environment in Japan and Chernobyl, because I personally know a lot about sunflowers so it made working this out easier, and so that later in my story I could also use them because they're fully edible and versatile and fantastic at cleaning radiation from the environment and super easy to grow so they'd be a great crop for wastelanders.
What happened with Jay, is when he was drafted in the war (long story short-) he was shot in the head right above his right ear, while the rest of the people he was with died, he didn't because of his inherited artifact powers (yeah like the artifact Lorenzo has but a different one, that's a whole different thing I can explain in another ask/post though). He didn't die but it did leave him mostly deaf and completely blind in his right eye and mostly blind in the left. He was found later, and after receiving emergency care was transported to a hospital in Vegas where he was in a coma for 4 months (Jesus). This hospital was working with Vault-Tec to supply them with people to experiment on, and that is why he was sent to this specific hospital, because they were surprised he lived and wanted to experiment on him lol
While he was in a coma, the scientists decided to test out their plant/radiation DNA splice experiment on him, monitor how he could possibly change based on his modified DNA, and then freeze him in Vault 111 to release him into the nuclear wasteland once the war passed and see what happens. They preformed the experiment on him while he was in a coma, and eventually he was transferred to a different hospital back in Massachusetts, and eventually went back home :)
Jay didn't know that experiment was done on him. They of course never told him or anyone outside Vault-Tec, and he doesn't find out until years after the war, while going through Vault-Tec research databases at the Vault-Tec HQ looking for any info he could find to help with his vaccine development. That's when he found the data on Vault 22, and who they experimented on, and what they had done to him.
The mutation made him very resistant to radiation damage, his body can photosynthesize so he doesn't need to eat, he just needs to be exposed to sunlight. He smells like sunflowers, all of their hair particularly and the scent gets stronger if he gets wet. They also are stronger in the sunlight, but much weaker in the dark, and he can easily suffocate. Radiation heals him and exposure to radiation works kinda like sun exposure, where they can pretty much 'eat' it. He does get very thirsty very quickly though and is...... Very flammable.. there's a good handful of pros and cons with this mutation.
My inspiration for this came from the solar powered and ghoulish perks, 2 of my fave perks lol. I reworked them (as well as a few other perks) into lore friendly and realistic things for my world!!
I've been thinking about there maybe being some Other plant mutants out there made with different plants..... Idk... I like it just being Jay :)
#i like to think his artifact powers did help with the dna taking.... i think if there are other plant muties they probably died :/#jay evarhart-valentine#sunflower asks#😳😳😳😳😳 hehehehe thanks for giving me a reason to talk about this

Bakugou x Autistic! Reader (pt.3)
This is a story I made up in my head while trying to sleep months ago, thought it’d be cool to write it down :) This will be a male reader because I feel more comfortable with it, sorry!
(Pt.1)
(Pt.2)
@plaguedoctorsnake
(I’m really bad at writing fight scenes sorry!)
Warning: Swearing, Blood, Meltdowns, Fighting And Sad?
(The reader is Aizawa’s adoptive son)
It’s been a year since Y/N “died” on live television and someone new has been seen with the league.
—————————————————————————————————
Reader’s POV
It’s been a year since it all happened
....
A year ago a part of me died.. well-
Technically not but everyone else think so
Well everyone on UA and the heroes that is, I’ve been living with the league all this time and I feel pretty happy and safe, it’s like I have a huge family.
They even helped me with my quirk, they sent me to their doctor and put me into a coma I think so that they could do something to help me control my quirk better so I won’t be afraid to use it anymore and I’ve kinda joined the league now, except I don’t exactly hurt anyone, let’s just say that I’m more here to distract the people they’re fighting.
Now you’re probably wondering what is my quirk well it’s...
Name: Energy
It’s basically telekinesis and can be used as just that but i can do a few more things then just that, I can take the energy around me and kinda explode it out of me when I’ve gotten enough, I can also take my own energy to heal people
When I use it my eyes turn white and the wind starts to move around me
Pros: kinda op, healing and moves really fast Cons: very destructive, can’t control if used too long, passes out when the body can’t handle it anymore and may cause death
——— Today we’re going on a important mission and I’m kinda nervous because I have to use my quirk a lot more but I’ll be fine, right?
“hey Y/N! are you ready for the mission?” Toga asked as she was walking towards me with something in her hands, “Yeah I think so” i said as I stared at the ground while hitting the side of my right leg “you sure?” She said as she made me look up “Yeah I’m just stressed, what if I do something wrong and I end up hurting someone- oh no I don’t think I can do this-” I started to ramble as she took me into a tight hug and said “hey now you’ll be fine, if you feel like you don’t want to be there anymore I’ll take you right back here, okay?” she smiled “okay but what about shigaraki he said he needed my quirk for this mission” Toga hummed and said “ im sure he’ll understand, now take this we have to leave in 30 minutes” and then she left.
I stood there looking at what she gave me, a black surgical mask and my dark orange hoodie, I walked into my room and put it on as I tried to calm myself down so I wouldn’t have a meltdown,
I walked to my bed and took the photo under my pillow and my headphones as I played my comfort song and looked at the picture of bakugou as I started to think about all the times he used to hold me as I cried or couldn’t sleep, After a while I calmed down and put the stuff back and walked out to the rest of the league.
“It’s time” said Dabi as Kurogiri made black fog and we walked through.
Bakugou’s POV
Today was the big fight, the villains planned something big and we found out about it so all the heroes are going to one spot with out them knowing a thing.
Today I finally could get my revenge
I’m going to fucking kill every last one of them if I have too...
———
I can see them as they walked out of the black fog, but they didn’t look shocked that we were here waiting for them, he fucking laughed.
The fight started fast, there where villains and heroes everywhere fighting for life and death and I only had one target and if anyone is going to stop me I’d blow their fucking head off.
I ran towards a villain and slammed him to the ground and blew him up as he tried to fight back, someone tried to drag me off them as I fought anyone who tried to stand in my way.
Reader’s POV
Toga and I got on top of a building as she said “okay you know the plan” and smiled as she started to attack the heroes.
I stood up and slammed my foot down as the building split in two and the ground shot up, my eyes started to glow as I ran on top of the building’s cracking it up as me feet hit the ground,
I jumped down from it hitting the ground making it shake an crack around me, I jumped again up towards the sky as energy shot out of my body taking down the building’s around me.
I started to lose control as my body twitches and shoots out more energy making me get higher and higher up towards the sky, I could feel my nose starting to bleed as my body glowed, blinding the heroes, it starts to hurt.
Everything hurts, if feels like my head is about to explode as I scream out in pain as tears streams down my face and another energy boost shoots out of me and I finally pass out.
—
Toga’s POV
‘Holy crap Y/N’s quirk really got out off control’ I thought before I saw Y/N falling hundred of feet down unconscious and his mask is damaged letting anyone seeing his face, “DABI! CATCH Y/N!” I yelled at the top of my lungs as I try to stab the person I’m fighting.
Dabi looked towards Y/N and locked shocked as he started to run shooting fire out of his hands to boost himself forward.
Bakugou’s POV
There I saw the unknown member of the league falling from the sky..
It was Y/N..
‘How! He’s dead how is he there’ I thought as I froze in place
I saw Dabi running towards my Y/N catching him before he hit the ground, he ran off with him in his arms and I just stood there I was in shock
“My Y/N is alive” I said in a broken voice looking towards aizawa with wide eyes who clearly saw Y/N too but couldn’t move either, after a few seconds I could move again as I tried to catch up to Dabi.
Reader’s POV
I woke up to Dabi wiping my bloody nose, “what happened?” I said as he looked down at me “your quirk got out of control and you passed out” he said as he helped me sit up “if you feel any better you can go back with me but you don’t need to” he continued, “I think I feel ok, I’ll come with you” I said as I went and got a new mask and walked through the black fog again.
“you feeling alright kid?” Shigaraki asked as he saw me “Yeah” I said as I went back to distract the heroes with my quirk.
———
Toga’s hurt and someone’s trying to kill her, I ran over to them and tackled the ‘hero’ and knocked them out as I got to toga, something behind me exploded or more like someone exploded, I turned around to see what happened...
And there he was.
“Bakugou..?” I whispered with wide eyes, it seems like toga heard what I said as she pulled me away trying to calm me down.
I was shaking as tears stream down my face again “this was a bad idea- why am I here? I’m just causing trouble, I should leave” I said to toga “ hey- hey It’s okay, I’ll take you back you did a great job today” as we tried to go back as fast as possible.
We were right in front of the back fog as someone grabbed my arm and dragged me out of toga’s hands, and it all went dark again.
Toga’s POV
“I WONT LET YOU TAKE HIM AWAY FROM ME AGAIN!” Yelled bakugou before he took Y/N from my hands and knocking him out, “oh but he won’t like being with you anyways, you see we’ve been saying somethings that made him unsure of you and all the ‘heros’ so if you’ll be nice and give him back I won’t make him hate you” said with venom in my voice and giggled.
But the stubborn asshat wouldn’t do as i said and tried to shoot an explosion in my face, as I dodged it I sprinted after him “HE GOT Y/N!” I yelled so the rest of the league would help, but before we could get him he was gone.
‘No! He took him, what am I going to to say to shigaraki..’ I thought as some idiot got me pinned down on the ground.
Bakugou’s POV
I held him as tight as possible because I couldn’t believe I was holding him in my arm again, I looked up towards aizawa who was sitting on a building he nodded as I went back to UA.
Time skip (The UA Dorms)
I laid Y/N down on my bed and I took of my hero outfit off and now I sat down waiting for my Y/N to wake up.
———
Time skip (again cuz I’m getting more lazy)
I was asleep when I herd a yelp of surprise, I quickly opened my eyes and there I saw him awake but he looked terrified as he hid under the covers “Y/N it’s alright, please don’t be afraid” I said in the softest voice I probably could make as I put my hand out for him
He leaped towards me into a hug as he cried “Im so sorry!” He continued to cry onto my shoulder “i didn’t want this to happen! I’ve missed you so much” he continued as I was kind of in shock again, eventually I hugged back as tight as I possibly could to let him know I wasn’t going to disappear.
I lifted him up into my bed and laid down with him holding him letting him cry against my chest as I hummed his favorite song to calm him down.
I finally have him in my arms again
I won’t let anyone take him away from me again
“i love you” I whispered to him as he was sound asleep in my arms
“i love you too” he whispered back in his sleep, as he said that a few tears of joy appeared in my eyes as I closed them an nuzzled into my boyfriend’s neck.
And then I fell asleep the happiest I’ve been in a year.
——— This is as far I went with the story in my head, I might continue later on but that might take months, now I hope you enjoyed this fanfic :D

Your Motorcycle Itself Affects Your Insurance Rate
Your Motorcycle Itself Affects Your Insurance Rate When it comes to motorcycle insurance, auto is a very useful vehicle. I m a financial planner, and I almost always recommend the same type of life insurance to my clients
I m a financial planner, and I almost always recommend the same type of life insurance to my clients. It s so different. Your spouse s policy is a separate life insurance policy. Other insurance policies on your policy are separate policies, like a health or car policy. You and your employer’s policy are separate and you need separate policies to get those. It can help you to see how it might work when a spouse or children are added to your life insurance policy — if you have any children or any children whose parents had life insurance, but their deaths made that policy voidable. Also, if your spouse needs to use the policy multiple times — like when you get married or adopt a child — that spouse s life insurance coverage could end. It s best to talk with your financial adviser or other insurance company. They ll probably be able to make things a bit easier. A life insurance policy might provide you with lifetime income. Some insurance policies pay a . Others, like a joint life insurance policy, pay a lump sum on top of your income. Joint life insurance policies are more complicated.
Group life insurance through your job is probably the cheapest coverage you can get, but it s not a perfect solution
Group life insurance through your job is probably the cheapest coverage you can get, but it s not a perfect solution. If you re looking for . In this article, we’re going to go over three types of life insurance coverage, their pros and cons, and the best life insurance companies to work with. Life insurance is about providing the financial security to you and your loved ones financially if you were to die because of an unfortunate accident. If your parents chose to exercise their option, then they would be able to pass their children on to you without being turned down on the first visit you could provide. For parents with kids, the company won’t be able to offer you a policy at first or to cover your expenses during the time they have your children with you as family. Instead, the company will be able to provide you with a better insurance payout if nothing is recovered after an accident. As with any life insurance coverage: your first priority is to find an insurance policy that meets your budget and not get a much lower premium than what you would pay if you were able to purchase similar coverage.
Other Factors That Drive Up Insurance Rates
Other Factors That Drive Up Insurance Rates The average cost of homeowners insurance in Texas has been steadily climbing over the years. Now, it’s a lot more affordable than you think. But with the data just going under the radar and the need to pay your bills after a certain amount of time, insurance companies are seeing that this cost of homeowners insurance is increasing. And, they want to see you’ll get some insurance-rich face to face talk when they’ve been around for a long time. The average is now a lot higher than the average, which is the reason for the increase in the prices. And, like so many other states, having more liability coverage will lead to a lowered policy premium. Now, this is probably good news in some places. But that also isn’t the only way insurers are seeing an increase. Some companies are seeing a real increase in the percentage of customers who choose to buy homeowners insurance and are willing to sell it for a discount. Others are seeing increases in.
My husband and I bought $2 million of life insurance even though we already had coverage through work, and years later I still think it was the right call
My husband and I bought $2 million of life insurance even though we already had coverage through work, and years later I still think it was the right call for us. My question is can two million dollars of term life insurance be paid in 2038 for one dependent and one son that is just now getting his medical license. My son is just getting his driver’s license and I don’t expect much more to be paid since I’m only 50 years old I’m not sure how he stacks up though. I’m not sure how you could get life insurance on two children even though it’s being raised by you. If you could hypothetically pay 100% plus one for a grandchild and 50% for two, I believe you’d have enough life insurance on two adults and a kid as well. Thanks Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day. Happy Halloween! I would definitely buy a bunch of term insurance. I would probably buy 100% from myself. I would keep my balance at least through the term for sure. The best thing that could.
Renters insurance only covers the person who got it — so if you have roommates, they need their own
Renters insurance only covers the person who got it — so if you have roommates, they need their own insurance, or vice versa as there are multiple states and regulations about . The other driver, or at least the person responsible for your car, will pay for damages. In the case of a , there was a mistake. For instance, you may have been at-fault for hitting somebody else in a parking lot, though the accident wasn’t your fault. In any event, your roommates will have coverage in case you’re ever sued for car damage, up to the limits of the policy. That said, of the insurers that we consulted, only one would cover damages to the other’s car, even if the accident wasn’t theirs. You may see this in accidents where another driver isn’t insured. For instance, you hit a deer on your way home from town hall. For that claim it would pay the price of one of your own car repairs. The homeowner’s liability insurance will not cover damage to your car to a certain.

Hidden truth Part 1/3
Summary: (Y/N) is a volunteer at the Shield infirmary and is taking care of a comatose patient that is not who the agents told her he is
Pietro Maximoff x reader(eventually), Tony Starkxreader(platonic)
Prompt: “Tell me what you’re thinking right now.”
Word Count: 1261
Warnings: None
Part 2 3
A/N This is my entry for @amarvelouswritings‘ challenge. The prompt will be included in the next part. Hope you like that too @writing-journeyx, @ohyesmarvel
You have been an agent of Shield for five years before started going on missions alongside the Avengers. They had noticed your combat skills and requested of you to not only fight but live with them in the tower too. So you unofficially joined them a few months ago.
However, since your loyalty to Shield was always your most valued trait, you chose to keep working there even as a volunteer. Agent Coulson assigned you to the infirmary where your job was to take care of the only patient you could handle. He was in a coma so all you had to do was keep him company by reading and talking to him. The only information the agents told you was that his name was Peter. He was a handsome tall man with blue eyes and black hair. After almost three months in the infirmary, you thought of him as a friend with whom you had created a connection. You felt like you could easily talk to him about anything. You even mentioned him to the others by referring to him as ‘’your patient’’. You were passionate regarding his health and you hoped he would wake up soon.
One day after you finished reading the third Harry Potter book to Peter you began wondering about him. Why was he in the infirmary in the first place? Doesn’t he have any family to visit him, since you had never seen them? Was he an agent before his ‘’accident’’ land him there?
You decided to get some answers for your questions. Since your fellow agents haven’t disclosed anything, you sneaked into the doctor’s office. You looked everywhere for a file with Peter’s name on it but came up empty. The only name that was close enough was Pietro and after reading the file you realized that it was your patient’s. You found out that all this time you were taking care of none other than Pietro Maximoff, an Avenger considered dead by everyone.
Unfortunately for you, that was the exact moment the doctor returned to his office and found you.
‘’what are you doing here?’’ He sounded more tired than angry.
‘’I came to look for information on ‘’Peter’’ who happens to be Pietro. Why wasn’t I informed of this?’’ You meant to sound severe except it came out ruder than you wanted it to.
‘’Sit down and I will have agent Coulson over to explain everything’’
You were satisfied with the explanation although you still felt like knowing what’s going on was a burden. When you finally return to the tower, you looked like something was bothering you.
‘’what’s wrong (Y/N)? Are you worried regarding the mission tomorrow? Do you need any adjustments to your suits? I can fix anything wrong you know.’’ Tony always made sure that you were aware you could count on him for anything.
‘’No Tony, thank you but everything about the mission is fine. There is something else going on.’’ You considered that being vague in relation to Pietro wouldn’t break your promise to Coulson to wait before revealing anything.
‘’Are you ok? Did someone hurt you? Or is it again on the subject of that patient of yours that you always mention? Have you reached book four yet?’’ The only mention you have had to the others was that your patient was comatose, good-looking and that you read to him. They knew nothing further.
‘’Option number three. I actually found out some new information today and I was hoping to share them with someone. It’s a lot to process and I would like a person to assist me with it.’’ You sighed and wished that he decided to stay.
‘’I’m not sure I’m the right person to open your heart to. I am not good at this.’’ He wasn’t uncomfortable, just skeptical as to why you were talking to him about your problems.
‘’I know that you believe that and I also know how wrong you are on this subject. You are a great person who I find it easy to talk to. I trust you to help me find a solution. So please Tony, just listen to the issue and maybe point me in the right direction. I was thinking of talking to you later about the details, but hear the outline and answer who you think I should go to with my problem? Will you?’’
‘’Of course, let’s go to the lab to have more privacy and feel free to lay it all on me. I will see whether I can assist you.’’
‘’So, today I sneaked into the doctor’s office to look at the file for ‘’Peter’’. That wasn’t even his real name, can you believe that? The story is that he was one of Hydra’s experiments and Shield found him during a mission. He had volunteered to the same program that gave Wanda her powers. The agents were immediately impressed by his abilities that after rescuing him they trained him to be an agent. Two months afterward he was part of a task force that got ambushed during an operation. He was shot and in a coma ever since that day. The problem is that the medical team is afraid that when he wakes up it’s unclear whether he will remember being a member of Shield or if he will believe he works for Hydra. His former partners don’t even know he survived because of the chance that he won’t recognize them.’’ You close your eyes and realized that during your speech you let out some tears feeling sorry for Pietro.
‘’That’s awful (Y/N). No wonder why you are feeling so down thinking about it. However, you said it yourself; he shares common backstory to Wanda so maybe trying to talk to her. Or maybe Bucky, he had spent a lot of time in the same conditions he will be able to help both you and him.’’
‘’I agree with you although I was assuming that going to them could have the opposite effect. Like hurting and reminding them of what they have gone through instead of them offering advice. I was considering talking to someone from the outside, still a team member but without a personal connection similar to this. Maybe someone like Rhodes.’’ You tried to read Tony’s reaction to your idea.
‘’You are correct to assume Rhodey would help you. He is a sensible guy and he will definitely weigh the pros and cons to any idea you will have. Let me suggest going to Sam as well, he has experience dealing with problems. He is great at listening to people and offering advice.’’
‘’His experience is at helping veterans however you’re right; I should go to both of them. Thank you Tony, you helped me tremendously.’’ You hugged him and left to prepare for your mission the following day.
The mission was successful but not thanks to you. You were distracted by how to approach Sam and Rhodes that you failed to listen to Steve ordering you to move out of his way.
‘’What happened out there (Y/N)? You are always so focused. I would hate to have to worry even more about you than I already do. What’s wrong?’’ Steve questioned you as soon as you got back home.
Your phone saved you from having to answer Steve’s inquiry and took the call. It was a nurse notifying you that Pietro was awake and that he requested you to come to the hospital soon.
Little did you know there was a huge surprise waiting for you there.

At the Drive-In
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Pairing: Jughead x Reader Word Count: 2,442 Warnings: None that I can think of! A/N: My first writing attempt in a while... can you see the rust falling off? This has the potential to be multi-chapter.
The escape was a muscle memory: one hand on the windowsill and one gripping the branch below. She gave in to gravity and let the momentum carry her towards the tree’s sturdy trunk--the only stable thing in Riverdale right now. Since the summer--since Jason Blossom and Sweet Water River--the ground beneath her feet had been shifting and falling out from under her. The town was losing its foundation and didn’t see it. Not yet.
She was halfway out of her window when the glass shattered followed by a loaded silence. Then a man thundered his outrage and a woman followed with a defiant screech. Calm over, storm to be continued throughout the night.
A gust of wind struck like a slap to the face and her entire body shuddered from the cold of it. It was like being doused with cold water, an abrupt awakening from a coma. It took far too long for her to come back to her body--she was up up up in the stars past Jupiter and then crashing down to her body standing ankle deep in the river where the body of her classmate had been found.
She didn’t remember walking to the river, just knowing that she shouldn’t be there. She couldn’t explain when realizing she needed to leave became an action, couldn’t pinpoint the moment she started to move, when it started to rain or how she ended up squeezing through a hole in the chain link fence at the Twlight Drive-In at 2:07 am on a Friday night. She only remembers the intimidating sound of grown men cock-sure with intoxication who should, by law, have left the drive-in after the last screening. Instead, they loitered and she trespassed. She was good at trespassing, but truly excelled at breaking and entering.
Back when your birthday meant inviting everyone in your class to a party, Reggie Mantle started a game of truth or dare. She couldn’t say for sure, but she thought it might have been Archie Andrew’s birthday, or maybe it was Betty Cooper. She remembered that the house had more than one floor and the lawn was so green it didn’t seem real, more like something out of a cartoon. It was nothing like her neighbourhood.
At ten and eleven they hadn’t heard the term classicism, but it ran rampant at that party. Cheryl and Jason Blossom targeted her specifically throughout the game which ended after the adult supervision heard Jason daring her to pick the lock at Twilight Drive-In. When parents began to collect their children, Jason confronted her once again.
“The dare still stands. I’ll meet you there tonight an hour after the last movie.”
Except he never showed up. Every night for a week she rode her bike to Twilight Drive-In with a broken pair of tweezers and a manipulated paperclip in her pocket. She waited for Jason Blossom for hours until something inside of her broke. On a Tuesday night in late July, she picked the lock to the booth at the Twilight Drive-In and started a life of crime. After that she periodically picked the locks to her neighbour’s houses when she knew they’d be out of town. When her bike was stolen, she would steal Reggie Mantle’s by picking the lock. It was one of those fancy multiple speed mountain bikes with a hand brake. It was so big that she had to walk it to a bench for a boost. The first time she took it for a spin around town she gave herself road rash because of that damn handbrake. After a year or so Reggie switched to a combination lock.
Tonight, however, she would revisit her origin story to escape from the cold wind and hopefully find a way to dry her socks and sneakers. Picking the lock felt like coming home, almost as easy as having the key. The air smelled of fresh popcorn and artificial butter. With the door shut and locked behind her, all she had to guide her was the faint glow off the machinery. She didn’t think there was a need to step lightly as she headed up the stairs.
The punch nearly sent her flying back down, but she gripped the doorframe as she leaned back and was able to recover quickly, cursing vehemently the whole time.
“What the fucking hell, dude!” Her heart pounded in her chest so hard she felt it crashing against her skull and suffocating her lungs. She lunged quickly away from the doorframe--more afraid of falling than getting hit. It took her far too long to process who exactly attacked her.
“Haven’t you ever heard of trespassing? You can’t be here, get out.” Jughead Jones had a cold fury, the curve of his shoulders defensive while his voice bordered on territorial. Her eyes shifted from him to the bed in the corner--the rumpled blankets and the sleeping bag half unzipped. She glimpsed a poster and a few other homely items before he demanded her attention again.
“Did you not hear me? Leave! You could get arrested for this, or worse.” He said, taking a step towards her.
“Worse?” She asked. “What exactly constitutes as worse than arrested?”
“I know you’re not as dumb as you’re pretending to be. So I won’t waste my breath explaining to you what would define worse.” He said, his words coming out rapidly. “You should go, now.”
“Go where, exactly? I won’t insult you by pretending that you don’t know why I’m here, Jughead.” The use of his name seemed to jar something in the dark haired boy. For the first time, he really saw what was happening. Her hair was curly from the rain and droplets slid steadily from her hairline, down to her temples and continued under her jaw where they reappeared on the soft curve of her neck. Her clothes were dark from moisture and a puddle was forming under her feet. His eyes traveled from her feet back to her face where he saw that her lips were discoloured from cold.
“You can’t stay here, do you understand me? This place has been claimed.” He said, his voice gentler than it had been in what felt like days.
“Because you were here first?” Jughead’s heart stalled in his chest at her words. It was the fact that he was caught, yes, but also her tone of indifference. It tugged at the few heart strings that hadn’t been severed during his childhood.
“Because I was here first,” he allowed.” Among other things.”
There was no choice but for her to accept this and head back into the literal and metaphorical storm. Keeping her back to the wall, she began to move for the stairs. Jughead choked on his words, words he wasn’t sure he wanted to will into existence, but he cleared his throat and tried again anyway.
“Just tonight,” he said. “You can stay tonight, but you can never come back here again. It’s Serpent territory.”
“And they don’t bother you?” She quirked a brow, surprising Jughead by her sudden confidence.
“I work here,” he replied, keeping his answer vague. He expected her to dig, but she surprised him again by her quiet acceptance. They both anticipated an awkward silence--she the interloper, Jughead the reluctant host--but she was wracked with a sudden bout of teeth chattering.
“How long were you out in the rain for?” Jughead asked. The question was a placeholder, a way to buy time so he could weigh the pros and cons of each level of accommodating he could be. This was his home--he didn’t want her to be here, not really. But he didn’t want her to get sick, didn’t want her to be uncomfortable. Didn’t want her to get hurt or be the next body to float to the river’s edge with eyes wide open and unseeing for eternity.
“I don’t know.”
He couldn’t help but think about Jellybean. If it were Jellybean in this situation, he’d want someone to take care of her; to offer her a hot shower (he could only offer a sink full of hot water and paper towels), dry clothes (he was living out of a duffel, he didn’t have many clothes to offer and to lose out on even one shirt would be difficult for him) and something to eat (he had old popcorn and unlimited fountain soda).
“I can put your wet clothes on the heater and give you something to sleep in.” Jughead said, turning to his bag to avoid looking at her.
“Okay,” she whispered. The shame was starting to set in, the embarrassment choking her. The reality of the situation was trying to force itself to the forefront of her mind. She essentially broke into her classmate’s home, would be wearing his clothes, and sharing a room with him.
She turned her back to Jughead and busied herself with ridding herself of her waterlogged shoes and peeling the socks from her feet. Next she began to shimmy her hips out of her skinny jeans, bending over to start sliding the fabric down her legs and over her feet.
Jughead didn’t have any clean boxers to offer her, but he thought one of his sweaters might be long enough to act as a sleep shirt. He turned to ask if she thought it would work and in that moment his words died a thousand deaths on the journey from his mind to his mouth. She was bent down, removing her jeans, displaying her blue cotton boy shorts to him. A thought tried to form (soft to the touch) but he dispelled it before it could truly manifest. He turned back around and cleared his throat.
“I uh, only have a shirt for you.” He lifted it over his head to show her. She gently tugged on the sleeve of the maroon sweater and Jughead let it fall. She was overwhelmed by the warmth of the fabric in her hands. She turned and eagerly shed her damp t-shirt which fell with a wet slap to the cold concrete beneath her feet.
Her stomach quivered with butterflies the moment she put the sweater over her head. It smelled intoxicatingly of Jughead--she couldn’t compare it to a specific scent that she had encountered before, like mint (the smell of the lotions her grandmother uses), coffee (her mother’s breath in the mornings) or cigarettes (an acrid odor that clung to her father’s skin, coated his plaid shirts and made its home on the walls of their home). She could only describe how it made her feel: warm and safe. It was the kind of scent that made her fly.
“Okay, so my bra is wet. I’m taking it off and let’s just not be weird about it.” Jughead scoffed from the other side of the room where he kneeling next to his bed, attempting to arrange a comfortable nest out of a combination of Twilight’s towels and a spare pillow for the night.
“Telling me not to be weird about it is weird. Just so you know.” He turned to flash her a sarcastic smile, but was met with the sight of her frizzy hair cascading down her back, the water darkening his sweater in places. He was momentarily transfixed on her hands as they reached around her body, slipping easily under the hem of his sweater and moving upwards. He followed with rapt attention as the fabric lifted with her movements, revealing the soft curve of her hips to him.
And then her hands left and the sweater settled loosely over her to cover her hips and most of her thighs. His eyes snapped upwards, following the practiced motion of her hands as she reached inside of one sleeve and then the other, eventually pulling her bra through one arm. It was something he had seen done in the movies and on TV, but it never occurred to him that real women could perform with the same level of grace and subjective appeal. She bent down, picking up her pile of wet clothes and Jughead came forward to take them from her, avoiding eye contact, and swept up her shoes to be arranged carefully on the heater.
He wasn’t sure if it would be safe to put something so delicate and lacy directly on the heater, so he placed three paper towels in front of the heater and laid her brightly coloured bra flat. She was sitting cross legged on his bed when he returned, next to a pile of folded towels.
“Can I be honest with you, Jughead?” She didn’t allow him time to reply and his head was spinning with how quickly she moved between timid and confident. “I can barely feel my hands or my feet. I’m still very cold and given the limited resources we have, the best way for me to get warm would be through sharing body heat. As far as I know, you’re the only other body here. So, we’re going to share the bed. Unless you’d rather I get sick and die.”
“You’re being a little dramatic, don’t you think?” Still he put the towels away and she curled up on the side of the bed closest to the wall, wrapped tightly in his sleeping bag and spare blankets. She lifted the edge to Jughead when she felt the mattress dip under his weight. He slid under the blankets, turning his back towards her and facing the door.
She compressed her body tightly, fingers curled around the excess fabric of Jughead’s sweater and fists pressed tightly into her armpits for added warm. She tucked her chin close to her chest and pressed her head into Jughead’s pillow to let her breath warm her face.
Jughead squeezed his eyes shut tightly against the feeling of her trembling against his back. Every few minutes she would push her back against him as if seeking more heat. He knew that he could turn around, pull her body into his and mold to the shape of her to provide further warmth, but he didn’t. Eventually her shaking subsided, her teeth no longer chattered and Jughead was able to relax.
That night they slept with their backs to each other and the heels of their feet gently bumping. When they woke, their legs were hooked around each other’s. Her clothes were dry enough for the walk home and before she left, Jughead curled his fingers to cup her upper arm with a gentleness that paralysed her. He made sure to look her directly in the eye.
“You can’t come here again, Y/N.”
But she came back again that night.

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art Lens Review | The New Champion Of 14mm Ultra-wides?
When Sigma first uttered the words, “14mm f/1.8”, I may have shouted at my computer, “INCONCEIVABLE!!!”
Well, it’s real, it’s here, and the verdict is in: …WOW.

Ultimate Sharpness
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 5+ years, you already know that almost every Sigma Art Lens seems to get rave reviews for sharpness, as well as overall image quality. However, since this lens is very much a specialty lens, considering its focal length, price tag, and weight, you have to ask yourself: do you actually plan to use this lens at f/1.8? Do you need the incredible sharpness that it offers by f/2.8? Maybe, if 14mm is an integral part of your photography style, however if you’re just looking to fill your arsenal with a compact, affordable ultra-wide that you only reach for once every now and then, I gotta be honest- there’s plenty of sharpness to be had with the other 14mm primes out there, including the dirt-cheap Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 UMC, (manual focus) …and even the new Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 AF, now available for Sony, Canon, and Nikon.

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art Sharpness @ f/2, 100% Crop, 24MP. (Fine-radius sharpening and modest noise reduction applied)
So, ask yourself- What apertures do you mostly shoot at? By f/5.6-8, literally every 14mm made in the last 5-10 years is almost perfectly sharp. Or, maybe you do shoot at f/2.8-4 a lot, but you shoot things like portraits and whatnot where the sharpness in the extreme corners doesn’t really matter. Again, all of the 14mm’s will do the job. Really, to justify the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art on its sharpness alone, you have to plan to use it at f/1.8-2.8. (And even then, I gotta confess- the f/2.8 options are roughly as sharp in the extreme corners at f/2.8-4.)
Low Distortion
Of course, sharpness isn’t everything. Many ultra-wide lenses have absolutely wicked distortion. In fact the most affordable option, the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 UMC, has such crazy distortion that I almost feel like it gives a fisheye effect whenever you point it at something that has strong lines.
Of course still photographers can correct this distortion with a lens profile, but it’s still a pain to deal with, and extremely troublesome in video footage.
The Sigma 14mm’s distortion, by comparison, is almost nill. And whatever little distortion there might be is easily corrected by a profile.
Distortion Test: PASS
Solid Build Quality
Just because a lens is heavy, doesn’t make it “indestructible”. Sigma’s Art lenses, despite their solid appearance and feeling, do still break. I’ve seen some of the older ones, such as the 35mm f/1.4, 24mm f/1.4, and 50mm f/1.4, all literally “rattling apart” after a year or two of heavy abuse.
However, Sigma has made headway in this arena, and the reports of 14mm issues are almost nonexistent. In short, if you take decent care of this lens, it will last. The same can not be said for most Rokinon/Samyang and many other third-party alternatives. Well-done, Sigma. This lens is a beast, but hopefully that means it stands the test of time for most photographers.
Low Vignetting At Competitive Apertures
Yes, wide open at f/1.8 the Sigma 14mm has pretty significant vignetting, which renders almost the whole image a bit darker. Simply put, the lens’ actual light transmission is not 1.33 EV’s brighter at f/1.8 than it is at f/2.8.
Vignetting Test: PASS Nikon D750, Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art, f/2.8, 15 sec, ISO 3200
However, since no other 14mm lens even goes to f/1.8, the fair comparison begins at f/2.4-2.8. At which point, the Sigma 14mm is much, much brighter than other lenses. That’s just the physics behind stopping down a fast-aperture lens.
Flare test: PASS. (Just one or two little dots.) (Half the time, it was just dust or mist on the front element!)

Low Flare
I don’t know what Sigma is coating their glass with these days, but it’s magic. The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art has almost none of those annoying “flare dots”, and the blooming/haze from in-frame light sources is also impressively low.

Autofocus
For those of you who need it, autofocus is there. More importantly, it actually works quite reliably, which is not something that every single Sigma Art prime can claim.
Ordinarily, depth of field is so deep at 14mm that when you’re using an f/2.8 or f/4 lens you barely need autofocus at all and consistency isn’t very critical either. However @f 1.8, is that Sigma 14 mm New Jersey indeed benefit from having autofocus is that is snappy and consistent.
Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Review | Cons
Noticeable Coma Before f/4
Almost everything about the Sigma 14mm’s images is best-in-class and/or generally stunning. The only downfall is, as has been Sigma’s nemesis for its wide-and-fast primes, …coma. At f/1.8 thru f/4, tiny points of light in the extreme corners, such as stars, will grow “wings” (sagittal astigmatism) and appear a bit fuzzy in general.
It’s really not very bad, however, depending on your camera’s resolution. See the examples below, comparing the Sigma 14 1.8 Art against the Rokinon 14 2.4 SP, at both 45 megapixels and 24 megapixels:
Coma Test, 45 MP, 100% Crop (The Sigma is the brighter image)
Coma Test, 24 MP, 100% Crop (The Sigma is the brighter image)
Really, it comes down to this: which do you want more, at f/2.4-2.8… Incredibly low coma, or incredibly low vignetting? The Rokinon offers the former, the Sigma the latter. Personally, I am indeed partial to extremely low coma, but your preference may differ.

Weight and Size
Yes, it’s big, yes, it’s heavy. Let me disclaim this con by saying, I fully understand that this is the price we pay for such stunning optics. I’m not expecting a free lunch here. So, you’re either willing to lug it around, or you’re not. That’s your decision.
I’m sure plenty of people will comment to say, “oh, don’t be a sissy, stop complaining about heavy lenses! I want the sharpest lens possible, I don’t care about anything else!” I absolutely understand. Sometimes, you just want the sharpest lens possible, you don’t mind the weight, and you plan to put the lens to good use. Go for it!
Filter Compatibility
There’s no “personal preference” subjectivity here, the Sigma 14mm Art is very cumbersome to use with filters. If you use filters a lot, you’ll have to get a clamp-on filter system.
Manual Focus & Hyperfocal Information
I’ll keep this complaint short and sweet, since only the most die-hard landscape photographers will notice, let alone care: Most autofocus lenses these days have a pretty limited focus distance indicator, if any.
Sigma’s focus distance window goes straight from infinity to 3ft/1m in just a few millimeters’ turning of the focus ring. The hyperfocal markings are also just a few millimeters apart, and, due to the extremely high megapixel count of cameras these days, they’re wildly inaccurate too.
I suppose I should be thankful that the lens has any focus indicator at all. The only other current-generation 14mm prime with autofocus, the new Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 AF, is fly-by-wire (electronic manual focus) and has zero focus indicators whatsoever. Also, the Rokinon 14mm f/2.4 SP has lost its hyperfocal markings, for seemingly no reason, although it is still a dream to focus manually in general, with amazing focus throw.
But, at this point, I’m splitting hairs. The Sigma’s features and performance earn it a spot in any serious ultra-wide shooter’s camera bag, especially if they prefer low vignetting more than low coma.

What Types Of Photography Is The Sigma 14mm Art Perfect For?
Make no mistake, this is an exotic, specialty lens. If you use the words “casual” or “general” to describe the type of photography you do, then look at a different ~14mm prime, or an ultra-wide zoom.
With that said, which types of specialty photography subjects might greatly benefit from the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art?
Nightscape photography – Duh. Impressive wide-open sharpness, (and unprecedented f/2.8 brightness) at such a wide focal length, makes this lens a prime candidate for a main workhorse of an astro-landscape photography lens.
Conversely, however, if you shoot traditional landscapes, (and if you don’t shoot any video) then you’ll likely appreciate one of the other 14mm options just as well.
Timelapse photography – If you shoot timelapse, especially in low light, then every stop of aperture and wide-open sharpness counts, too. Furthermore, timelapse video is usually only viewed at 1080p or 4K, and cropped to 16:9, making the Sigma’s issues with coma even less noticeable, and its advantage in vignetting even more useful.
Low-light, close-quarters photojournalism – If you shoot any type of journalism in low-light, especially indoors or in other close quarters, then every stop of light can help you get an acceptable shutter speed, and every millimeter of focal length can help you fit a scene into your frame when your back is against a wall.
Low-light, close-up action – Whether you’re an extreme sports photographer photographing a stunt well after sunset, or you’re a traditional sports photographer looking for an extra stop of shutter speed even in brightly lit stadiums, the Sigma is designed especially for those in-your-face shots, which also require autofocus I might add.

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art Lens Review | Conclusion
Sigma has created (another) monster. It’s a bit heavy, it’s a bit pricey, but if you need what it offers, it’s worth every penny and every ounce. I absolutely recommend it very highly.
So, what type of photography do you shoot, and are you considering this Sigma 14mm Art? Please leave any comments and questions below! Thanks for reading.
