it’s late enough that i want to talk my shit. can we talk abt how annoying men go around “why can’t people grow and change? how can you hate people for something that happened so long ago! grow up!” for. unsavory characters in the league (particularly like, pkane) and basically go on stupid rants abt cancel culture in the nhl of all things. but then make fun of women and/or queer ppl for being fans of tyler seguin… even though he got torn apart by the media for YEARS and had to apologize for a million and one problematic things. like he probably would not have the demographic he currently has if he was still regularly making jokes based in homophobia or anything like that. but because his change and forgiveness came in the form of being more openly supportive of the queer community, actively supporting the hda, going to protests, kneeling for the anthem, etc. suddenly forgiving is? cringe? we only appreciate it because he’s hot? like we have DONE the things you beg for with your “cancel culture” rants because somebody has actually SHOWN CHANGE. just be honest and say you don’t want them to change, you just want them to get away with it! also, objectively, his past crimes ARE things you can be redeemed from, they have not irrevocably ruined the lives of other people. nobody who complains about not being able to recover from being cancelled is actually talking about people who want to and are capable of recovering and changing and growing.
