Okay okay so there's all those empty houses, which are owned by a bunch of rich assholes as investment properties, and like it turns out a couple of those rich assholes are ancient vampires, and like obviously they're undead, they've got billions in wealth, they catch some girl doing chemistry homework in the middle of their McDracula Castle and they do her in, and it's awful, don't think about this. But our protagonist shows up and stumbles into the scene of the carnage, unluckily a minute or two before the county cops obviously deep down into the old vampire pockets, copping a bit of the old world wealth to put in that new game room in the basement. This is less than ideal for a protagonist being tortured in ways well we shan't say, but let's just leave at that the poor kiddo ends up with a lot of rounds of police issued shotgun rounds to the chest, unceremoniously buried behind the hot rod wheel in Ye Olde Abandoned Construction Site, kind of cliche but those things are all over the place.

Whenever I start out with "If I was in charge of this mass marketer major IP character, here's how I'd write it," it usually ends up somewhere so far remover from the original concept that I figure I may as well write it on my own.

But yeah, important meeting™ as we’re talking about the work studies, and how those kids are really about to be thrown into the fire without knowing. The commission is aware that they are going to need heroes they can trust, because a huge chunk of the ones that exist at the moment are working for the other side.
