Friendly reminder that when Charles confronts Erik in the plane in dofp he doesn't even MENTION the fact that he betrayed him, that he paralysed him, that he went against everything he stood for or that he killed a bunch of people. What he does insist on though, what he repeats and screams louder than anything else, is the fact that he abandoned him. Even losing raven, which we know was hard for him, is shown as significantly less important in his speech. Also note that, while Erik says "you abandoned us all", Charles uses "you abandoned me" because for him it wasn't about a larger cause or the greater good, for him it was personal, his bond with Erik went beyond just being fellow mutants fighting in the same fight, BECAUSE HE LOVES HIM FFS.
people who only want gay characters to be played by gay actors just dont understand the appeal of two ostensibly straight actors playing two ostensibly straight characters yet having so much chemistry together that they actually want to make out with each other more than just keep with whatever weird subtextual thing is already going on
