My Ride Ep 7+8 drama vs novel

Decided to combine the two episodes since yesterday was busy and I had to ready a bit far in the novel since the timeline is a little different even though the scenes are still very similar.

The 'hearty' Hainanese chicken rice scene and backstory of the uncles happened before Loy Krathong in the novel, but is otherwise basically the same and very adorable. There's stuff that happens in the novel that I think is the next episode of the series so I'll wait until next week.

In the novel Por never seemed upset with Tawan or asked for space. Tawan is just used to Por supposedly visiting his family sometimes and not ever messaging him at that point. Tawan starts wondering whether he actually trusts Por or just doesn't care about him that much. Por's not actually ex-boyfriend doesn't seek him out in person, just sends anonymous messages and then leaves the key.

We actually get the breakup scene first for Mork's perspective, where he waits for the doc to come back down from Por's condo, then later we get Tawan's viewpoint although he doesn't remember exactly what anyone said, all that matters is that it's over. Mork and Por never have a confrontation, so it was pretty satisfying to get to see Mork punch him in the face in the show.

Tawan does realize Mork knew, because Mork is a buffalo and was not at all subtle about being like 'are you SURE you want to go to the condo? Let's get coffee right now? Did you eat? There is NO RUSH,' but it's not really a whole thing. In the show I feel like it was used as a way to highlight the importance of honesty in a relationship, but I feel like the novel is more focused on clarity vs. ambiguity in a relationship related to Tawan's need to see what was going on with Por for himself.

Tawan cries in Mork's arms for a while, but doesn't dramatically pass out in the rain, and he spends the night with Mork as a friend because Mork offers and he wants to. So in the novel it's still a very painful time but it's not quite as PAIIINNN!! as the show since we're inside Tawan's head and we know he's starting to have feelings for Mork, realizing he's a little lukewarm on Por, and then pissed at Por for leading him on and pushing all the advancement in their relationship when he already had an weird on and off again long term relationship as his main thing.

In the show we know that Mayom is somehow super famous for being a barista and is the cafe owner, it's just that Nadia doesn't know this yet, so she doesn't see him as a suitable match. Mayom in the novel is a completely ordinary barista, but we'll get into my thoughts about that and the overall way class difference are handled next week.

One cute thing about the novel is that you can tell it was written by a doctor, because occasionally there are things put in there for no reason other than to remind everyone to wash their hands before eating or they could end up with terrible diarrhea.
