#fandom vent sorry but im so frustrated by the new rol novella#i just simply do not believe 'immortal edwardian gentleman who is the most depressed#*repressed but that too#person youve ever met' is the best ace representation ba couldve come up with#maybe let one of the many many oversexualized women of colour be ace?? a trans person maybe? literally anyone who wasnt a talking stereotype#and like. im not saying hes deliberately no homo'ing nightingale and david with this. however#combined with not even their friendship getting any attention at all it kind of does have the air of freezing (or icing? how do you say?)#the shippers out#i would like some representation of gay men and ace people in the main cast. but I also (shockingly) would like it to be good representation#and its not even like well ever get anymore reflections or indeed any inner emotions from this ace character regarding his sexuality#because hes so guarded and repressed that he's the only one whose book wasnt narrated by him like cmon#if we got some of his thoughts about what being ace feels like as a boarding school boy. as a teen who grew up in the 1910s surrounded by#other guys his age. his feelings on dorm room talk. insecurity about carrying on the family name. literally ANYTHING he feels about his#sexuality i would be so much happier with it ba doesnt have a stellar history with good representation goodwill counts etc#just. if we actually got some inner life#theres a SIDE-side character in the german novella whos ace and we literally learn more about his (and others) feelings towards that#than nightingales#ach man
