ok let's live in a world for a second where there is this united moon/stars/erdtree structure in this country specifically. so like. confessor parker. and what exactly arthur did that earned him the iron mask, since it's said to be "forced on a prisoner convicted of an appalling crime."

the thing is i doubt parker, even as a confessor, would be super, uh. compliant. with the two fingers. he doesn't exactly strike me as a very cooperative guy when he feels things are unfair. i would not be surprised if he was considered something of a rogue element, only barely enough of an adherent to not be outright dismissed. it could even be that confessors do operate as more of a third party in this society, understood to be a component of the order but not as closely entwined with it as a finger maiden or a priest. y'know, more like a PI than a police officer.

anyway this arrangement probably drives a few people pretty crazy, but parker toes the line enough that they can't legally do anything, especially since working under the seal of the order still offers him some legal protection, especially if he's got other people in the order who he's friendly with. so what's a guy to do? well, how about having him cut down in the dead of night, turning his body into a warning, and hanging the whole thing on his disgraced ex-carian partner who isn't even pretending to be part of the fucking church. have him take the fall for the brutalization and murder of an order official, while also cleaning up that annoying problem with your own hands clean. why not do that. that solves all your problems.
